    I've been making thumbnails for a few years, with some reaching a million views, yet I always seem to feel clueless about my next thumbnail. It's a fun balance between art & science that always seems to push me creatively. Thanks for making this. Always good seeing how others work through their creative process.

    What I noticed when you spoke about the thumbnails in relation to running and fitness channels was the colour red. Red is associated with speed and aggression giving off that immediate feeling of “you can gain this quickly”. This is widely used in the fitness industry if your looking.

    Oh man, I think we really need some help with our channel. Our views have diminished so dramatically. I (Natalie) personally am. one of those rare people who love making thumbnails. However I must be bad at it, as we're simply not getting the views! I loved watching this as I do learn so much from you, and it's great to see the process of how other creatives work. It's such a tough one because it's taken a long time to be truly proud of the work we create, and now we're proud of it, then we get pitiful views. It's heartbreaking, really, as we've thrown our entire selves into this, and are so passionate about getting to a place where we can begin to truly help others in the areas we are strong in.

    Very good talk and lots of interesting infos in there. That being said, I'm not a fan of copying what others do. That might work in getting the views at first when you're just a small channel, but ultimately you'll end up being just another knock off of bigger channels. Finding your own style should be high on your list of priorities once the ball starts rolling. If you're serious about being on TH-cam, you need to create your own brand with your own style. The goal is for people to copy you, not you copying the others. Otherwise you'll always be a step behind and you'll hit a glass ceiling eventually. Hope that makes sense.

    • @FilmBooth
      @FilmBooth  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its not copying exactly what others so, its finding what works and putting your own take on it.

    • @misterwhyte
      @misterwhyte ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FilmBooth No offense mate, I love your content and learned a lot from you, but yes, you are copying others when it comes to thumbnails. Just look at your ideas compared to your inspirations. Even your own thumbnails, they look pretty much identical to at least 10 other channels I'm a subscriber of. If your face wasn't on it, I wouldn't know it's a Film Booth video before clicking on it. When you start your process by looking at what others do in your niche with every single video, it's inevitable that you'll end up being a clone.
      The thumbnails should be part of your branding. The look and style should be decided at the beginning and easy to replicate through multiple videos. The research phase should be done then and there, not along the way with every video. If you channel doesn't grow, you can always go back to the drawing board later and try new things. A recognizable branding is a far more powerful tool in the long run than individual hits.

It's just a little side project at this stage (planning to change that soon though, hence the research phase). Ed is a great teacher and I really enjoy his content, but that doesn't mean I can't listen to him with a critical mind - and you should too.

    😄 I'm gonna guess you used Chat GPT to come up with those new title options for contestant 1... I tried using Chat GPT for some TH-cam video title ideas and the 'Unleash Your *****' was the most common.
    I wonder if eventually we will be able to pick out AI generated videos just be seeing the titles or hearing the way the script reads when the video starts to play? That is if enough people try to use AI to create their videos. They are really catchy titles but after using AI I can see some repeating ideas coming forward.
    It's going to be really interesting to see what TH-cam will look like in the next year or so now that AI is becoming more common, I feel like the videos that are infotainment for example 'Top 5 secret places you can find on Google maps' will start to flood TH-cam because they are easy to create with stock footage and AI generated script and voice overs!
    I think AI is great for research but only if used wisely 😉

      It's going to prefer whatever it sees most often, I think, so it will probably emphasize cliché phrases. Now, those might be cliché for a reason, because they work, but it will interesting to see how that plays out over time. Will we tire of headlines phrases like "unleash," "level up" and "amazing"? And if we do, will ChatGPT have a way to learn new approaches? And what's the lag time going to be like? ChatGPT only knows about things up until a couple years ago, so I don't think it can know about any brand new trends that work right now.

    Something I noticed you did not mention which I think can be helpful is that red is an alarming colour, hence why it usually works well. Not always, just like anything else it has to make sense but there is a reason why warning signs and sales signs in shops have red. it draws attention the easiest. But personally I can also be put off by red in thumbnails, especially big red backgrounds as I feel the channel is then overdramatising something and I feel it's a bit of clickbait (maybe I am overanalysing). so use it with thought and reason behind it :)

      Probably a good move, it's not worth that kind of investment. I do it strictly for my own entertainment. Good luck wherever you venture

      @@showtale8325 The worst thing...Im blind now. There is no starting over in some other direction or career.
      If I didn't get a monthly check from the government now for being blind, Id be totally phwcked for believing in the TH-cam crackpipe dream.
      Do you know in the time its taken me to write this reply to you, I've "earned" nord in free givernment meney sitting on my butt finfer tyling on a smartphone than I did in 15 years video editing and uploading content to youtube.
      check.
      Good luck yourself. I remember I use to be way happier and much more productive in the real world away from a mouse pointer desktop before I found TH-cam... this place is d3th

    Honestly not throwing shade but it seems like a strange union of the two of you for this channel. Your two channels are very far apart in what you both love & James honestly doesn’t seem as into this kind of channel topic as you are.
