Although "filler videos" are less work than my typical videos, I should probably note that people who go all in on them put massive amounts of energy and effort in to them and you still want to give them care and attention
Rule #3 is mind blowing!! I have done so many interviews and at the end felt like I really missed a theme. This part alone is a game changer. Thank you, Ed.
this is what i've done that gotten my video to 2.5m views in under a month. i uploaded 60 filler videos which caused me to gain hundreds of thousands, then i uploaded 1 high quality video that has tons of effort and psychology tricks, and that high quality video gained me 2.5m in 1 month.
I'm interviewing a "real life superhero" (like, an actual person who puts on a cape and armor and goes out in the streets to help people), and the edit's been long. This was really encouraging and helpful. Thanks Ed!
I actually STARTED with interviews, but thanks for the tips. Especially the one about "reshooting" a question to make it fit the answer. I hadn't thought of that.
A good friend and fellow creator who did a podcast with you, David Winter, recommended giving you a watch. WOW, mate. I've spent the past few days binge watching your channel and immediately got stuck into some of your recommended strategies (first one putting more thought into my thumbnails and titles) My daughter was laughing as she caught me googling "the most attractive colour to the human eye". Hence, my thumbnail changes now being orange/yellow. I'm in awe of the dedication, research, and pure hard work you put into each and every video. Truly amazing. Love the video when you help your girlfriend with her channel. It's amazing the results you guys got. Anyways, I thank you so much for your inspirational, educational, and entertaining videos. Mark👍👍
To the awesome person reading this, remember, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do." - Steve Jobs. Your dreams are the spark that fuels your journey. Embrace challenges as opportunities and setbacks as lessons. Keep pushing forward with unwavering belief, and your dreams will become your reality. Don't give up; greatness is waiting for you! 🌟💪🚀
I love doing what I do. I just wish I had more time to continue doing what I do! I am doing fitness challenges and it’s so fun! My next video I want to do 100 sit ups for 30 days.
Great tips in there! I have done this on two occasions without even knowing haha - both videos however, were a LOT of work (around 50 hours each) as I had to include b-roll and other multi-camera angles but both videos did VERY well - I might have to try riverside to make things a little easier. As always, thanks for an entertaining and value packed video mate.
I have a question for you. I have over 200,000 subs, but I only get about 2,000 views per video when I post a new video. Do you know why I’m not getting more views? Are my videos being hidden from my audience?
Tonight I was drunk and high and while watching a video about interview videos as filler videos I realized as I was watching a mid video riverside commercial advertising interview video software that this video was just a riverside commercial.
Interviews gave my channel a huge boost, and I enjoy doing them. You made some great points. I’ll add…ask 1 short question at a time. Asking multiple questions at once confuses the interview subject.
Man, 98% of this is so helpful and so valuable… but if anyone sent me an interview request email with one of those titles you showed on screen, my brain would flag it as spam SO fast 😂 I would ALWAYS rather someone just title it “Can I interview you for [name of channel]?” or something descriptive!
Fantastic videos. I have wanted to introduce interview videos on my channel for ages. It is such an obvious fit for what I do. This has given me a extra push to do it. Thanks! :-)
Deleting a lot from videos REALLY does help. I thought my 1-2 final passes for cutting on my final script were good but hearing yourself out loud when editing really puts into perspective just how much isn't actually NECESSARY. On the video I'm editing now I thought I had a final cut with a great script but I've pushed myself and ended up cutting out at least 6 minutes from what I thought was "good" and that's what holds so many smaller creators back. Less time with better content makes a lot more value.
Last time i left a comment and you responded with a question. This blew my wee mind. No idea how to get you an answer. Should i make you a video that is 60 seconds or less? Is there a discord channel? A reddit sub? How do your fans try (and probably fail) to get responses to you? Thanks, awesome video, fun, informative and all that.
FYI the whole "Record the questions after the interview" thing...is what professional Broadcast media do all the time. They just set the guest up and let them waffle on with the odd nudge to keep them going, then record the interviewer later, often asking questions that bear no relation to the original interview whatsoever. Oh yeah, and also change around the answers to change the context. It not only makes the guest look however you want them to look, it also lets you make the interviewer look far more engaged and with it than they probably were and hides awkward pauses, nose pickings, coughs, snores, etc.
It's crazy to see a channel of your caliber only making between £30 - £50 per day with 7K - 13K views per day with Ad Revenue! 365K Subs, but I suppose having not uploaded for 6 months doesn't help much either...
Is it a coincidence that the ‘hey steve hows your wife?’ ‘she left me’ ‘oh yeah i forgot about that’ reminded me of the UK Office and then you mentioned the UK Office like 20 seconds later?
We use Riverside for literally every single video we do. We're film critics and we live about an hour away from each other in LA. We used to record on Zoom but Riverside looks so much better for our reviews and TV recaps. Thanks Ed! -- Christy
Ed, after watching a Gizzion of your videos multiple times ( yes I'm one sad man ) the one thing you've never really touched on is showing how you select your music for the videos. Personally I've not seen many people do this as well as you do it and I'd love to see you cover this. When I go into soundstripe it's like where the heck do you start!
SO according to this, a "filler" video is an interview? Well in that case I've been working on a filler video for nine months now. I interviewed a bunch of viral youtubers (they get on trending daily) and man, this video gets me really excited! I just know if I do this right, I cater to not only mine, but 5 other audiences. CRAZY
I definitely love watching interviews, but when the interviewer doesn’t know what they’re doing, it really shows and makes everything super awkward. I also saw a fellow artist who put up a fake interview video and it was so obvious , so there’s certainly a wrong way to do interviews😅.
hey I have a request, is it possible for you to do similar video guides on growing on twitch or ways to do it like u do for the youtube platform? this might be entirely different from your expertise but I figure u might be interested
Take the time you need to make something you feel worth to be posted. Your videos are high quality and to maintain that, just do what you keel doing, it works, even if sometimes it doesn’t seem like it. Well done, actually alot of stuff you mentioned from previous videos I pretty much highlighted before even jnowing your channel. Very weird but very reassuring, so thanks, earned a subscriber from seeing one of your previous videos. Earned a blue skittle there. Cheers mate
wild question, do you pay your guests? or what are the things you can offer in return. cause it seems like having a guest is them doing a favor for your channel. How do you approach them in a win-win situation so they'll benefit from the interview as well especially when they are bigger creators than you.
A few nights back I was on a train (Scotland) - this guy hopped on and I was amazed to see, it was ED!! Well Ofcourse I was keen to say hello and that Filmbooth has really helped me, but the guy just growled at me. He perked up when I mentioned he was ED, of FilmBooth, a successful TH-camr! His eyes lit up as he said in the thickest Glasgow accent “oh aye pal! I’m ED! I’m him!” I narrowed my eyes and quietly whispered in disgust. “You’re not ED” ….. I walked away. The End
I somehow managed to figure this out 3 weeks ago coincidentally. The issue now is finding the guests for the interview. I have reached out to a few people but haven’t secured any guests yet. Hoping to get my first ever guest or happy to even be interviewed to talk about my story on this TH-cam journey.
I am not sure if interviewing is relevant in my niche I could be wrong though. I do believe you need to at least be monitized before you even begin to think about doing this type of video, no one will take you seriously. Anyone in the tech niche wanna talk rubish with me for an hour? 😂

Good videi Ed, I saw thw Riverside ad from a mile a way😂
Also the bigger secret was that you have Alien posters and this video had the self destruct alarm from Alien.
I guess the issue is when you’re a lifestyle/food vlogger, who do you interview and about what? 😅
Last time i left a comment and you responded with a question. This blew my wee mind. No idea how to get you an answer. Should i make you a video that is 60 seconds or less? Why nobody adresses so-called "Invalid Traffic", that TH-cam is penalizing creators for its own mistakes?
Ed, fantastic. I have a new project in the works and this video is a HUGE help. Thank you

One thing i know for sure about TH-cam: as soon as you hack the algorithm they come out with something new. They are creators too.😊
I wonder if the doggy thinks your talking to it when doing your videos haha.
I did think your questions were recorded after the fact. Something about them just felt a little off.
