@@TheBeesleys99 nobody is really sure why, some believe it’s because he was tired of getting so close the championship and never winning it. But ever since he retired he’s made almost no public appearances.
@@TheBeesleys99 like the others are saying, it was very unexpected and blindsided not just his fans, but even his own team. my personal theory is that his racing heart had been broken too many times. he was laps away from winning the championship in 2016, and suffered the closest 2nd place in the championship in nascar's history in 2011. (absolutely a race to react to) in order to race and be at your best you have to absolutely love what you're doing, and i think in carl's case he just didn't love it anymore.
Carl Edwards is driving the 19. He was looking to win his first championship after multiple tries. He is one of the most likeable and fan favorite drivers in NASCAR. After Carl crashed there and pretty much losing the title, Carl announced his retirement just a month later. It shocked the whole NASCAR world as he just retired out of no where with no warning. Carl never has anything bad to say towards anything or anyone and is very respectful in NASCAR. Great guy to research when you have a chance
@@TheBeesleys99 yea, he had many years of competitive driving in him. In his press conference, he gave 3 reasons for retiring: He was satisfied with everything he accomplished in NASCAR, racing demanded too much of his time, and he was still healthy.
Stewart and Edwards both last career starts, both were excellent drivers This is one of the best races of the 2010s and even if I hate how the championship is decided nowadays Jimmie is a legend
The 19 was Carl Edwards, an unbeknownst to many of us at the time, this would end up being his last race. Before the 2017 season would begin, he would abruptly announce he would not be returning to the sport. And like I had said before Chase Elliott, the 2020 champ, basically followed in Jimmie Johnson's footsteps en route to his first championship.
Tony Stewart is still active in NASCAR as the co-owner of the Stewart-Haas racing team. And yes, that is the same Haas that owns the Formula 1 team. They currently have 4 cars in the cup series, including the one driven by Kevin Harvick.
I was a Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards fan before they both retired... Carl retired after this race and never came back, no one really knows what happened to him now because he has no form of social media. As you would think, this race had a bittersweet ending for me.
fun facts: Kurt Bush is the only active driver to race with Dale Earnhardt(1st race was in 2000) Kevin Harvick is 2nd as his 1st race was in 2001 at Rockingham speedway Ryan Newman is 3rd as his rookie year was in 2002

Jimmy should have thanked Carl. Because Joey was the fastest car he would have won if Carl did not block him. Jimmy was at the right place at the right time. Sometimes you need luck in Nascar and Jimmy got it that day. Joeys front in was knocked out of alignment.

The whole making fun of Stenhouse for not getting enough attention from his girlfriend is pretty funny on its own, but then you discover that at the time, his girlfriend was Danica Patrick and, yeah it gets even funnier.
Edwards never won a cup championship. He was close two or three times and one of those coming off a tie with Tony Stewart and losing the tie battle afterward
@@TheBeesleys99 that's still one of the biggest questions out there like when he announced he was stepping away it was so sudden I don't thinkn no one knows why he left
Jimmie Johnson: goes to rear and wins championship Chase Elliott: goes to rear and wins championship its kinda ironic cuz the ending of phoenix 2020 they were celebrating together
You should check out I believe it was the 2011 championship season. Tony Stewart won 5 of the last 10 races of the season to TIE Carl Edwards for the championship. If it wasn't 2011, anyone feel free to correct me.
Carl edwards actually tied with tony stewart for the championship in points in 2011 at the end of the season but lost out cause tony stewart had more wins over the season and that was the tiebreaker
Carl Edwards should have been champion at least twice Stand up guy great performer and one of the best Unfortunately sometimes the best just don't get there Look at Mark Martin so many time he could smell and lost
I believe Carl was one of the best drivers to not win a championship. He was so good and got so close multiple times, it's a shame he never won one. As for Joey Logano... Yeah. He's widely hated. You could watch a video on why NASCAR fans hate him, there's basically either a 5 minute one, or a 50 minute on to pick from😂 When you're watching crashes at Daytona or Talladega, who's always in the front and causing most of them the last few years? Joey Logano. Every single time he is leading, he throws his car all over the track blocking everyone whether it's lap 1, lap 100, or the final lap, he will never give a position to a faster car. He didn't exactly dump Carl in this race, but it didn't help his case at all, and he was right for once. It's late in the race, they are all there to win and there can only be one winner and one champion, and you have to do whatever it takes to get that spot if you have the chance. I also think you should react to NASCAR's greatest paybacks!
@@TheBeesleys99 I think he would have. Unlike Petty and Johnson, he was in his prime, with one of the best cars in the field every race. He also had his own race team that he could use to push him to victory any given week
Carl blocked joey all the way in to the paint and Joey would have done the same if the shoe were in the other foot. Joey races people hard. It's my opinion that if you aren't going to race hard why even show up? there's a difference between racing hard and purposely wrecking people. Sometimes the line can look blurred depending on allegiances.
Nope, that 1 was on Carl. He blocked him all the way off the track. He knew it was the final restart and nobody was letting off. The block was never going to work because he already had his nose along side him. At that point u either let him have the lane that he already has or u wreck. Nothing Joey could do about being bullied off the track. Carl was trying to make Joey lift off the gas and concede the position, which wasn't going to happen on a late restart.
This wasn't anywhere close to Joey's worst move. In 2013, he wrecked Denny Hamlin at Auto Club Speedway in California and Hamlin ended up breaking his back in the accident. He has had a history of not respecting drivers and their health throughout his career. There is compilations of his feuds through his career.
Jimmie was my favorite driver ever since I could understand the sport, this season when he wrecked to miss out on the playoffs this past season was heartbreaking, I watched him win his 4,5,6 and his 7 championship. Also a fact about Jimmie is that he won 5 championships in a row from 2006-2010 truly dominated the sport, sad to see him go.
