Nah, do the job properly. A Mity vac or a bike pump are not expensive. If making a couple of block off plates and gaskets is beyond your skill set then you should not attempt a repair like this. You probably should not be running a decent sized good saw like that ol Jonny

I just use a small screw to remove seals, works good.
if you get the saw running and spray something like brake cleaner or starting fluid on the seal and the engine rpm changes you know you have a leak
