  • You've heard that cigarettes are bad for your health, but do you know why? Why should you quit smoking? We follow the process of smoking all the way from lighting a cigarette, to the effect of nicotine on the brain.
    Main points:
    1. The tobacco used in cigarettes contain over 7000 chemicals - at least 250 of these are known to be harmful to health and over 70 are known carcinogens
    2. Many chemicals within tobacco are absorbed into the bloodstream. This means that the harmful effects of cigarettes are not just limited to the lung
    3. Nicotine is the main chemical responsible for the positive feelings associated with smoking. Nicotine can make you feel more alert, focussed and relaxed.
    4. There is hope! The number of smokers worldwide is decreasing.

I haven't lit or smoked a cigarette in 68 days after smoking them for five years straight. I've tried to quit many times and many times it was unsuccessful, and very sad... I am very glad to say that I am on the right track now. Don't smoke guys, even if your best friend from whom you never expected to smoke, offers you a cigarette, reject it. Don't smoke, ever.

@@steineck5020 Sure, I quit smoking mainly because it's bad for my health. I was much shorter of breath whenever I tried running, I also used cigarettes as an excuse to get a break at work and focused much less on the actual work. Not saying it's bad to take break, it's just that I was using it wrong, at least in my opinion. Anyways I can go on for days why I don't want to smoke cigarettes again but yeah it all leads to one thing and that's my health... I do not hate smokers nor will I try to convince anyone to stop smoking, I'm just glad I did something good for myself that's not quite easy to pull off. 🙂

I smoked for 25 years. Although I found a way to quit, deep down, I never believed that I could do it. But with that knowledge, I took on a different mentality. I decided that I would never stop trying to quit, that no matter what happened, I’d just get back up on the horse. I fully expected to live out the rest of my days like this but I would at least be mitigating some of the damage I was doing. What I found was that over time, I got better at quitting and I was able to try out different things and eventually found a strategy that worked for me. I’ve been smoke free for a year now and I know I will never go back.

@@bahmaniaryou Nicotine replacement. A lot of people get hung up about NRT because they don't think there's any benefit to continue to put nicotine in your body, but for people like me and you that got up to two packs of day, there's plenty of benefit. I started off on the patch and I would use those Zyn (they are a powder, not tobacco) nicotine pouches (lightest strength) to fill in if I just couldn't take it anymore. Then you just step down to the lower strength patches until you were entirely off. However, I kept falling back into smoking because of drinking so I would just use those Zyn nicotine pouches during the week and then I bought vape that I would use when I was drinking. Eventually, after enough time had passed, I switched to just using the nicotine pouches all of the time. Then I eventually weened off the nicotine pouches with the patch. Now, if I ever have a relapse, it is a relapse back to nicotine pouches. Sometimes I'll have a weak moment and smoke a cigarette but if that happens, I'll just jump back on the pouches. Now, I just go on and off the nicotine pouches but that is perfectly fine with me. Once you have broken that psychological component and enough time has passed, smoking a cigarette may become weird to you and in my case, I got to the point to where my lungs felt so good for so long, if I had a cigarette, the awful feeling I would get would be enough to make me pop a nicotine pouch.

@@bahmaniaryou One other thing you should realize is that not only that cigarettes are bad because of the smoke, but they are also bad because they are essentially the crack cocaine version of nicotine. It delivers a ton of nicotine to your brain in seconds. So ANY other nicotine product is more manageable because it doesn't absorb into your body as fast. That's why nicotine replacement isn't the same thing and can be useful in quitting.

One of my many great victories in life is breaking free of nicotine dependency.
My parents both smoked 2 packs a day when I was a child. They smoked indoors, in our car, and everywhere we went. Naturally, I picked up smoking when I was 12.
Throughout my teenage years and for the first 3 years in the Army I smoked, and when I re-classed to Infantry I started to switch from smoking to dipping Copenhagen.
My wife said that she’d only marry me if I stopped smoking and dipping, so, at 27 I stopped… It was tricky breaking free. I went from nicotine gum to patches, and settled with lozenges.
I used NRT for about 2 years, and then one day I woke up and thought “this is stupid, it’s time to stop.” I did, and never looked back.
When I was addicted I could never imagine my life without nicotine, and now that I’m free I could never imagine my life with nicotine… 16 years 100% nicotine free… Amazing. Thanks for reading.

I was a smoker for roughly 10 years from my early twenties until now. I'm not going to lie, even after two months of quitting, I still get the cravings and urges to smoke, especially if I'm confronted with a stressful situation at work or when I socialize with people who smoke. The benefits are numerous and surprising, I have a much more stable and constant energy output, better circulation(rarely do I get cold hands or feet now), better cardio capacity(I can actually run way better than I used to), no more "chest/heart" burns, and better quality of sleep. The coughing was very pronounced for me, especially in the beginning when I coughed so hard, I thought I had conjunctivitis because my eyes turned red and were very strained but actually it was from all the coughing, lol. Mentally...I really do miss it sometimes, you really feel like something feels off, like you're not your complete self but of course, that is a lie, life is so much more than smoking. The idea is that you're not just going to stop smoking and that's it-you have to change quite a few things in your life, develop other habits that have some benefits but of course that is really hard, at least for me.I haven't had a drink for a couple of months as well and don't miss that at all, I don't think that I'll drink too soon because if you do that, you relapse and start smoking again. A dopamine rush, a cocktail of pleasure but for several hours...and then what? I don't know if I'm going to make it but at least now I want to try, see where this takes me...Take care guys, we're not going to live for 10000 years but at least let's try to feel constantly good and relatively healthy all the time.

I never knew I'd quit, hadn't planned or put any effort into doing so. I fell sick one day and my fever was about 103.5. I then smoked a cigarette and it felt like putting charcoal in my mouth, it was then I felt my mind actually taking over and doing the right thing and for the first time I stubbed one to the ground halfway. It's been a year since I quit and haven't looked back. So for all those who wanna quit, hang in there you never know a moment that can actually bring that change.

Smoked for like 22 years. Eventually going through 2 to 2 1/2 packs a day! I smoked in my house, in my car, everywhere, all the time. Finally quit and have not had a cigarette in over 12 years. Best thing I ever did in my life!
The final thing that allowed me to quit (I tried many times over the many years and failed. Bought books and tried anything.) besides finally being truly ready to quit - wanting to quit - but the final catalyst was learning that nicotine only stays in your system for 72 hours (3 days) So, I rationalized that I only had to quit for 3 days to end the physical addiction. Then, the rest is purely mental - all in your head. I had 3 cigarettes left. I gave my mom one, and me one and tore the third one up and threw it in the trash. Then we each smoked our last cigarette. I also slept for like a week. lol

I am not a smoker, so I will not pretend to speak for all of them, but I find it hard to believe any smoker isn't aware of their habit's danger. They would've hear about it in school, from their friends and family, and their doctor. Also, look at the packet at the beginning of the video. "Smoking doubles risk of stroke," they should've read the label at one point. Now, I'm not pretending that all countries have the same label, but since there are smokers despite the fact that the risk should be well known, it makes the idea that, "smokers won't smoke once they find out the health risks" dubious in my opinion.

He believes videos like this just tell smokers or ex smokers what they already know
His book try’s to enlighten you as to why you smoked e.g nicotine addiction and indeed you believe you needed it as any time you didn’t have a cigarette e.g right now you believe the cigarette is precious
The book aims to show you how the cigarette was given credit for releasing symptoms yet it was actually the cigarette all along
Basically I’m just saying the book try’s to remove reasons to smoke instead of reasons not to
So you don’t feel like you need one as truly you don’t
