Landscape Photography in Death Valley National Park, California / Part One

The first half of this video from Death Valley is a bit of a creative departure for me. For this, I attempted to tap into the feeling of being there using music and image instead of words. This journey takes you through the experience of waking up before dawn, hiking alone in the dark, photographing a sunrise, and the feeling of standing on top of the world.
In the second half, I share the process of creating (what turned out to be) one of my favorite photos from the trip -- a trio of black volcanic rocks overlooking a flat basin at sunset. I found this location after becoming creatively frustrated photographing other, more popular areas of the park. I felt as if I was taking other people's photos using a template as opposed to finding something new and unique for me. After extensive hiking and scouting, I came across this mound of black rock which happened to include three perfectly positioned boulders.
