Agreed! My (writing) lecturers used to say, "There's no such thing as a boring subject, only boring writers." Perhaps Michael's words are an equivalent of that sentiment.
Wow! I was last there 47 years ago and had three dawns at Zabriskie. Now I really want to go back with better skills, equipment, and digital processing!
What a magical, other-worldly place! Hills are one of my favourite subjects, and these are sooo beautiful. Love the pace of this video, Michael. And of course, your images and video were both delicious, as always. Someone get me a toothpick...
All I can say is...WOW! This was a very inspirational video, Michael. Myself and three other photographers are going to Death Valley in early January, 2023. What month f the year were you here in this video. I agree as well that you have to just learn how to use the light. I learned this from Jackson Bridges on a trip to the southwest USA. Thanks so much for sharing this video.
What an amazing place! Michael, can you recommend 3 or 4 American landscape photography channels please. Seem most of the ones I sub to are English, and while I enjoy them, it'd be nice to see what the good photographers in America are doing. And to see some more of that amazing landscape.
As usual - Shainblum delivers the goods. Never seen better results from Zabriskie. I follow a lot of landscape guys. It's just an opinion, but you're the best. Thanks for sharing your work.
I like your work because my most used lens is my Fujifilm 70-300mm (100-450mm equivalent). I love taking clean slices of the scene using a telephoto zoom. I do enjoy the wide angle landscapes that other people create - but it always feels messy when I try.
Great work Michael! And great point about not judging a location's compositional possibilities during harsh light conditions and your example of 20 Mule Team Canyon. You really can't judge a site until you've seen it in a variety of lighting conditions ranging from time of day, time of year and atmospheric conditions. That's what makes landscape photography so addictive. You never know what you're going to get every time you go out. I think that is the second point I took from your video: adapt to what Mother Nature gives you. Thanks again, as always, for the inspiration!
Images are AWESOME!!!!! but....... if I'm going to be picky. I would kick up the contrast just a nudge and I would also kick up the saturation just a nudge too. But these images are excellent.
Spectacular, awesome, striking - and on and on. Darn it Michael. The pictures are just so incredible and all the time your voice over is so calm and intrigued. Caught me by surprise EVERYTIME you put up another shot. I was way more than impressed, thank you. And I've been a long time fan, I know what you can do, but this tops the list. Just can't believe you've taken us on this magic journey.
Amazing images! You really make that Sigma sing! I will definitely visit Death Valley someday with my Sigma 100-400mm. Thanks for the inspiration, Michael!
Simply gorgeous images, and I loved how there was no indication of scale in most - if not all - of them. I found I paused the clip repeatedly, just to examine the colors and shapes/textures.
Nice one Michael. You certainly demonstrated there are ways to harness the light in what some would consider unflattering conditions. Ordinarily, I prefer the golden reflections as the sun dips down, but in this case I liked the defused lighting so much more.
I remember a couple of months ago you mentioned that you have been in a creative crisis. Now, look at you! Not only is your photography phenomenal but also your videos are super cinematic and entertaining. I guess overcoming a crisis brings a huge potential of new ideas and creativity with it. Well done Michael, well done! 👍🏼
I absolutely love how you can look beyond the typical wide angle shots and zero in on tighter images…especially when the conditions are not conducive for the grand scale image. You remind us to get creative! Very inspiring indeed!!!
Superb photos! The greater landscapes are amazing, but I think your abstract photography is some of the best that you share with us. More please. Lol 👍
Man, this is awesome. What a amazing videos and pictures you make. Can't believe my eyes and enjoy it a lot. But the colors in this video... man..... thank you for sharing this beautiful moment!!
Stunning photographs Michael!! Having just photographed Z. Point a few months ago with Out of Death Valley, this is really valuable stuff. I'm ready to head back next winter!! Thanks! Nice to see TJ again as well. You guys are the best!
Great video Michael, have to hand it to you regarding how sharp those longer exposures are with the 100-400. I use the same lense and no matter what I do can't get images that sharp with anything over 1/100 🙄. Could be something to do with the fact that we rarely get a still enough day over here in Ireland! Beautiful images man
Great video! I went back in February and went to Zabriskie under similar conditions but didn’t do a very good job focusing in on the patterns and colors with my telephoto and instead got wrapped up in trying to capture the whole of the scenes rock formations and background and it just didn’t turn out that well. This definitely helped me to understand how to focus in on the elements of the landscape. Thanks
Hi Michael! One more amazing video with stunning images, textures and plenty of colors. I`m a huge fan of your work, talking from Brazil/Rio de Janeiro. I´m looking for a trekking backpack that could also transport my photo gear (camera + lenses). Do you use a traditional trekkiing backpack with a camera bag insert or a specific one, like a Lowepro type bag? Thank you for your comments!
It’s definitely not always about that big landscape image, there are so many more choices when looking through telephoto lenses. Thanks for sharing again Michael. Stay safe 🇦🇺
Hope to visit someday. I have a day between some stuff in early June but don't think summer is the right time to try to visit the park. Thinking I will hit Sequoia this time around.
Great images and video Michael. It's given me a new perspective for my next outing to DV. I think the colorful range in the badlands is called artists pallet. You can drive to it and get up close and personal with the incredibly changing tones.
Amazing colours and textures. I've also grown to learn how to make the most of the blue skies where I live and to take advantage of the light in the few hours surrounding sunset.
I look forward to clear sky photography in Arizona's Superstition Mountains next month! I have a techy question: what white balance or custom color temperature do you set your camera for in that blue hour light? Thanks.
I used the Sony A7S3 for most of the filming of this vlog and then the go pro for the hiking/POV shots. I try to film with the mirrorless as much as I can, but sometimes the go pro is just so much quicker.
Love the music you use, but would love even more if you mixed up the music a bit more instead of repeating same songs from video to video. Love these shots!
That guy at 7:00. What a comp stomper. The whole desert and he’s next to you. 🤣
“There’s no such thing as bad lighting. You just have to know how to use it.” Quote of the day!
Agreed!!!
Definitely got my attention with that statement as well.
Agreed! My (writing) lecturers used to say, "There's no such thing as a boring subject, only boring writers." Perhaps Michael's words are an equivalent of that sentiment.
Your shadows at 1:20 ish walking the ridge line are cool.
This was even better the second time I watched it. I wish I could like it again! Thanks Michael.
Michael this is some of the most beautiful photography I have seen. Thank you for sharing.
I used to hate skies like that until I tried B/W film photography for the first time. Now I love them!
Absolutely superb pictures!!!! Some of the first ones are jawdropping!!!
Wow! I was last there 47 years ago and had three dawns at Zabriskie. Now I really want to go back with better skills, equipment, and digital processing!
Wow what an amazing experience.... The pictures are breathtaking... Great work..
TJ THORNE!!
👋🏻
Spectacular! Well done Michael.

Beautiful, almost abstracts!!👍👍
Stunning images Michael. I'm so jealous...
Nice touch using Cody Fry's song Pictures of Mountains. Sounds like it anyway. Great video. Thank you.

Very well done photo session with incredible images.
What an amazing place. Gorgeous images.
Michael I really do need to watch more of your wonderful films! Beautiful images and many wise words, thanks for sharing it all with us. 👏😀👍
Don't know about the badlands, seems more like the great lands for photography, those colours are amazing.
Wow, what a place! Some day maybe I’ll get go. Awesome photographs!
I always learn lots of thing from you .Great video
Thanks so much!
Good stuff buddy! Cant wait to go back to DV! Very inspiring 👍🏽
My fav by far is 5:02
Wonderful! Thank you for sharing, it is truly inspirational work.
Thank you Michael.🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
Death Valley is like a magician, it is full of magic.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!!

Those colours are amazing! It's like someone came in with a giant watercolour paintbrush and painted the landscape just for our enjoyment.❤️📷
Yes, TJ! Love his work and he's such an awesome human being. Awesome video as always Michael, forever an inspiration!
TJ is the best, we need to do more shoots together, thanks so much!
What a beautiful video - gentle and inspiring. The photos are spectacular, and I love the music you chose. Well done!
Really glad you enjoyed it, thanks Deb!
@@MichaelShainblum I can actually make those comments about quite a few of your videos!
Breathtaking!
Always Beautiful Images XO Thank You
Wow, inspirational, and broadening

Beautiful - thank you.

Spoken like a true professional.

Thanks so much Tony!

Wow Michael - looks like a painting. Print large to get full effect.
Those colors are amazing. Reminds me somewhat of Oregon's Painted Hills, yet completely different.
I absolutely love how you can look beyond the typical wide angle shots and zero in on tighter images…especially when the conditions are not conducive for the grand scale image. You remind us to get creative! Very inspiring indeed!!!
Thanks so much!
Amazing images, subtle colors, fabulous detail.
How do you use blue sky in photography - crop it out 👍 Great images! DV is amazing, definitely one of my favorite spots to shoot
haha thats a bit true, I have seen some great blue sky images with the sky. But I tend to exclude it ;) Thanks so much!
@@MichaelShainblum occasionally there is a good reason to leave it in, I like the telephoto perspective

What a magical place, just amazing what different types of light can do to a scene. Thanks Michael for sharing those brilliant images.

thanks so much!
Nice work Michael and great color palette. I hope you parked out what you packed in.
Thanks, packed out? Nah I threw all my trash into the badlands of course ;)
@@MichaelShainblum Well, you don't have to be a smart ass about. I see a lot of trash out there.

Incredible work. Incredible presentation. This is as good as it gets.

Such an amazing landscape, but your edit once again really brings those shots to life!
Thank you for this amazing video 👍

what the music do you use? I couldn't find it. they are so beautiful
Love your stuff man. I have an equipment question. Why Sony and not Nikon or Canon? Do you prefer them?
I look forward to clear sky photography in Arizona's Superstition Mountains next month! I have a techy question: what white balance or custom color temperature do you set your camera for in that blue hour light? Thanks.
The array of colours in the desert is incredible. Do you happen to remember how much time you have from sunset to blue hour in this area?
What is the music at 4:03?
Video is more than wonderful ❤
Thank you :)
How to deal with boring clear skies !? You just need to go to Hawaii and you have beautiful mountains there! ❤️
I can taste the poke now!
Off Topic: Do you use the GoPro for the majority of the vlog? Or do you use a second camera for video
I used the Sony A7S3 for most of the filming of this vlog and then the go pro for the hiking/POV shots. I try to film with the mirrorless as much as I can, but sometimes the go pro is just so much quicker.
Any of these shots available as NFT's M.S.?
Did you switch to Sony?
Back on the Sony Michael??
Yes, I'm curious about the switch from Nikon to Sony.
good video!
Thanks Alain!
Love the music you use, but would love even more if you mixed up the music a bit more instead of repeating same songs from video to video. Love these shots!
