I've been here for nearly 3 years, and never heard of this until now. I've seen those stairs, and never put it together. Now, I have something to check out, before the season starts back up, again!
That was built by Mr. Ammons who owned the Sea Mist years ago. I remember him having it built but don't remember the exact year. I believe the late 80's or early 90's.
Yo , this gave me and my friend SO much freedom the summer of 1992 , we were 11 and staying at the Sea Mist . We we're ocean side , and would use this to get back and forth to an ice cream shop across the road There used to be these ashtrays that hung from sides of the walls , and we would place our hands behind out back and attempt to spit in the little hole where the butts went , without hitting anything else.
Ikr. When we were kids. We used to stay at the sea mist and the Polynesian for fam vacays. Recently I purchased a unit at sea mist and was shocked that it has went downhill. BUT they are updating winter 2020. Thankfully.
This is a pretty amazing find. I LOVE stuff like this; gives the city I think more character and interesting qualities (in my opinion). I'm def checking this out when i visit my parents. MB really should have more tunnels like this. It's not only a pretty cool thing to experience/explore but I think it's also safer for busy season to have people walk under the city instead of trying to cross the street. Keeps them safe and keeps traffic flowing.
Wow I lived there for 6 years and never knew about this. Had friends that were locals and worked around the area and nobody ever mentioned this... Crazy !
The murals were there about 8 years ago. You’re right, you absolutely need to use the tunnel to cross Ocean Blvd. Sadly, the Sea Mist is quickly becoming the scourge of the area, rivalling the Polynesian
I remember walking this as a kid on vacation to have a family breakfast at this amazing breakfast restaurant called Tina's! It was so good. They had waffles as big as your plate. Not sure if it's still there though.
Thanks for your TH-cam Channel. We stayed at hotels or motels in the 1960s in Myrtle Beach until we bought a 1972 Skamper pop up camper trailer and then camped and stayed at Lake Arrowhead Campground in North Myrtle Beach each Summer from 1972 until it was sold. That was the most amazing Campground we would first stay in the wooded campsite until a beach front road campsite was available. I remember when we first started going to Calabash NC for seafood dinners my Dad saying they didn't sell alcohol yet I think they started letting Dad bring his own beer (BYOB) and then later at some point started serving beer 🍺
That mural on all the walls and mirror actually did exist at one time. My family and I stayed at Sea Mist in June 2007, and we used that walkway multiple times and I thought that was the coolest thing. My mom even took our picture against one of those walls with the mural as the background. I am sad and disappointed to see the murals and mirrors gone 😓 very unfortunate 🙁
Thanks for showing this. My gf and I have stayed at the Sea Mist 4 times over the last decade or so and she always makes me take the tunnel when we have to cross the street because she likes the murals. Somehow, even though I have a billion MB pics, I didn’t think to take one of the tunnel so as to help indicate how long it’s been since they whitewashed it, but as far as I remember it wasn’t white when we were last there in the summer of 17. I don’t remember the mirrors ever being there. Also, there’s a hell of a breakfast buffet at Tena’s there on the west side of the street. . Especially if Lular is on the griddle (her French toast is to die for).
How cool! Wanna do some EVPs down there. We bought a condo at the sea mist(Driftwood unit on 15 floor) WE ARE UPDATING OUR UNIT WINTER 2020!! And the sea mist thankfully is updating the resort bc they NEED it.
Wow we stayed at the Sea Mist many years ago because they have a waterpark but it is across the street.I am assuming that is why the tunnel is there...great video and Thanks for this!!!
Mr. Myrtle Beach, I'd love something about things for those of us with mobility issues. Where to rent chairs, accessible beach areas, attractions. That kind of thing.
I do not recall any murals except on the ceiling, at least within the last five years or so. By the way, there is an excellent water park for hotel guests right by that tunnel.
Wow, I had no idea the tunnel was there! I think that sign should include the word "underground" or "tunnel" because the way it reads to me means to use the crosswalk at the corner.
I have been going to the beach since i was a little girl. Ive stayed at the sea mist when it was brand new and my brother was in a hotel across the street...ive never seen or heard about this ...i want to see it on our next trip. Thank you for the video. Ps. Lol. Im not walking thru it alone though. Kinda scary 4 a woman
Really cool tunnel. It's nice to use when traffic is bad. Sea Mist is a nice motel just according to witch rooms you rent. Great thing to go see. Myrtle Beach is one of my favorite places to go visit. Great video!
We stayed at the sea mist for our anniversary November of 2015 there was a lot of writing on the walls with chalk and marker but no murals on the walls then
Oh man that is cool we were in myrtle beach and I had no idea that was there plus we stayed in garden city but if we go back which I hope soon I'm gonna try to find this tunnel. Thanks
I'm pretty positive the removal of most of the art had to do with vandalism. A group of kids went and spray painted hateful messages all through it and ultimately ruined it for everyone else. The pictures are somewhere on Twitter.
This tunnel is owned by the Sea Mist. It used to be a nice hotel but I would not recommend it at all anymore. They offer a huge list of amenities that are not that great in reality.
I'm not surprised that what they show is different that reality. My family and I stayed at the Seamist several years ago and the room we booked looked NOTHING like the one they advertised on the website. Then, ironically enough back in May while in the hospital, I started talking about my upcoming trip to Myrtle Beach to one of the nurses and she said the same thing. Her husband was turned off by Myrtle Beach because of the experience but we told them of some.of the other places we stayed and she is going to try to convince him to give MB another chance
This tunnel has been there for years. Back when Sea Mist was a great family place to stay this tunnel is for families to walk through instead of using the street. Sea mist has attractions on both sides of blvd.
Shelley has the Sea Mist gone down hill? If so that’s sad. The last time that we stayed there it was a descent place to stay, but that was around ‘94-‘95.
@@SDV058184 yes it has gone down hill really bad. We used to stay here when I was a kid and I stayed there with my kids also. In the late 90's. My daughter and grandson stayed there 3 years ago. They had to request another room because the 1st one smelled of smoke and cat urine nit to mention it was filthy. The 2nd room wasn't much better. The 3rd night they were there a lady got car jacked and stabbed in the parking deck. They're was several reports of roaches and bed bugs. I was down at the beach last year. @@shelleywilliams8201 Its such a shame, use to take our family there & got lots of pics of them going thru tunnel to lady river. Only bad experiences were moldy buns at the cafe & someone pooped in a pool! Live in area now but only go to myrtle for certain stores & never alone. All the advertising & money they bring in, time to revamp & clean out the Trash, make it family friendly again.
Lynn I totally agree! They should be remodeling and getting all the bad people away but from how the employees acted towards my daughter I don't see that happening. They acted like they really didn't care.
@@shelleywilliams8201 They are making big changes to that place as well as many other places here on the beach and look forward to the new Amusement park coming soon yes back on the shoreline bringing back them Pavillion days.
The sea mist used to be an amazing resort. And the donut icecream shop across the street was awesome! 20 years ago. The tunnel was covered in mirrors of different shapes and beautiful art. But over the years it's been vandalized and not kept up at all. Its bland and smelly now. The sea mist is one of then worst hotels now. Real sad how it's become run down
I have bittersweetness about the images. Right now, I think the only hidden gems are wholesome memories. I'd love to see old home videos of people enjoying themselves on the shores, going to the Pavilion at night or having great seafood at Calabash- anything wholesome. Presently, it looks deserted and dangerous. Post- apocalyptic. But I know that isn't really MB❤
