      I mean this restructure of the studio basically is a studio change. The axed all of the old leadership and now there is new players in the game. Most of 343s senior leadership were shown the door after infinite. Kiki was sent to work on expanded media (which lead to the hilariously bad Halo TV show) and Bonnie Ross was ushered out of the studio. Id be somewhat interested to see what a new 343 could bring now that the worst at the top have gone, but at the same time I moreso agree with you. Just hand the franchise to someone else. 343 had plenty of chances.

    What made Halo great was Master Chief, the gameplay, mission design, and story telling. Graphics were hella good for it's time, but I think about everything else I mentioned first before the graphics when I fondly look back on the Halo 1-3, reach, and odst days. Their concentration on the graphics, visuals, and locations makes me doubt this studio really knows what Halo is truly about that made it awesome in the first place.

Infinite feels like a modernized Halo 3, it had a simple yet solid campaign experience, and it's only real issues were a lack of content which has been resolved and the monetization. UE scares me. The engine relies heavily on TAA to support its nanite tech, which can severely hinder performance. TAA is used to reduce the impact of nanite, but creates immense ghosting issues. We've been seeing this with recent UE5 releases.
    I hope they're using a custom in house UE branch...
    PLUS, now there's one less proprietary engine. It's a shame to see, because engine monopolization makes the games begin to feel the same.

      Nanite is memory bandwidth intense along with software lumen. It is so much easier for studios just to lower the resolution to save on memory than it is to optimize.

    • @torvasdh

You can tell they have an idea of what to do/talk about, but they don't really know what they're doing. It was so much fun. Now it's all about build crafting, goofy gimmicky weapons, sliding and flipping around like a goofball, constantly changing weapons and how they work. The main changes within Halo games were new maps. Same gameplay, just new and improved maps. I never needed to watch a 30 minute video about how I needed to prep my character for anything new in Halo. Let's look at the issues that current and past employees of 343 have pointed out:
    1. The old heads of 343 that won't let devs do what they want or need to make the games great. They said they've fired people and are looking to hire more some new blood, but nowhere have they placed blame on individuals and nowhere have we heard that the problem individuals were removed.
    2. Current and past employees have said that almost if not actually everyone is under an 18 month contract and this leads to a ton of issues as they don't have enough time to get familiar with tools, teams, and overall production of anything promising. You can see how this would be an issue when new faces come into the studio in the middle of changes or fixes and they have no clue what's up and won't have enough time to properly help. We've heard NOTHING about this changing.
    3. Microsoft. They regularly push 343 to release projects FAR before they are ready. In fact, the last time we had a "more feature complete" game release, it was Halo 4. Halo 5, MCC, and Infinite all released broken, unfinished, and with major issues. All of this while taking FAR too long to add needed things or changing things to help the health of their games. Nothing said or shown in the last few years suggests that Microsoft has changed, and is it has been made PAINFULLY clear: Microsoft is still at the top and will always have the final say on when things will release, regardless of any needed extended deadlines.
    These are the biggest issues that have plagued 343 and continue to do so. They've not acknowledged any of this and as for Microsoft's part in it, they've not spoken about this either. So there is absolutely ZERO evidence to suggest that anything meaningful has changed. I desperately NEED the Halo fanbase to stop enabling this cycle. They keep convincing themselves "THIS IS THE ONE" when it's really not. They then preorder, and when the game isn't good they will STILL keep playing because "I don't have anything else to play" or sunk cost fallacy, or unchecked addiction(which is a major issue within the gaming industry.) And the playtime + money spent enables the studio/Microsoft to keep doing this. It's fucking MIND NUMBING.

      @@realtuber101 sorry bad wording, I meant to say that because of all the past negatives and Halo Studios not admitting to what we're the actual causes of 343i's downfall doesn't mean it's over for Halo Studios.
      You got to remember that right now they are on a thin line right now, the Halo community is mostly supportive of what's happening however there are still many who are skeptical and for good reason
      It's best to judge when the product comes out and the reason why I'm hopeful is because the people who've been running the franchise to the ground have been mostly removed from working with Halo.
      However on the note of the rebranding many have started to be toxic just because of woman being prominent in the team or the fact there's a black woman with colored hair working in Halo Studios, while it may seem like a red flag it's not the end and should not be pushed to the side because of looks. Like the old saying goes you can't judge a book by its cover.

    Cross has definitely been talking to game developers because everything he was saying throughout the video is accurate. Game engines are not going to magically make a game better or worse depending on which is being used. It's about which engine fits better with the project you're trying to realize. For games like Smite or Dead by Daylight, those were developed in an older verion of unreal engine, so making the transition will come with major benefits. But the tiger engine was developed with a core purpose to develop destiny, so switching to unreal would not only come with limitations, but would also require several employees to waste their years of experience in tiger to learn a brand new engine, which takes time and thus costs money.

    What made Halo special was player expression. Players were able to customize their Spartan to their heart’s content, customize the campaign through a variety of skull modifiers, make their own game modes, even their own maps later on through forge.
    The problem is that Halo’s core has shifted from that to the competitive scene and micro transactions. Thats why Halo is struggling, not its graphics. If it’s going to survive, it NEEDS to go back to focusing on player expression and providing the tools and resources for that to flourish again. A graphics overhaul isn’t going to accomplish anything.

Unreal engine 5 works really well and with Microsoft money they can get all the help they need with unreal, plus they can get additional help like making custom modules for halo studios. The next halo will look great for sure and I’m also sure that the performance will be just fine, but the writing, gameplay, tone, atmosphere, etc is all up to halo studios. I’m cautiously hopeful and excited.

  • @MrAZweistein
    @MrAZweistein 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The change was made not because the last Halo game looked bad but the effort to get to the point it looked and the maintenance of the engine code base. Switching to an external engines frees resources that can be used for visual fidelity. Furthermore you have the experts besides Epic in house with The Coalition. Those are masters of the Unreal Engine as we all know. As a platform holder and also a big publisher Xbox will assumably get the best support Epic is able to provide for Engine customizations necessary to bring it to a performance level a Halo game needs/deserves. Using Unreal also does not mean you cannot rewrite parts of the engine to your requirements, though it counters the effect of freeing resources as you yourself have to maintain that code base and not Epic.Another important point is the fact that with the change it is easier to get contractors or new talent on board as there is way more experience in the market than for a proprietary engine like Slipspace. I am cautious optimitic that the move is for the better.

      At the same time, the franchise definitely needs a new game, which would require a new engine.
      They can DEFINITELY port existing foundations into UE (abilities, perks, exotics, gunplay etc…), but with the added benefit of having an engine that can realize the potential of the vastness of the universe far better (better skyboxes, enhanced physics, enemy density and AI behavior).
      While UE isn’t the only engine available, it definitely is the most widely known and very capable of fulfilling the artistic vision of destiny.

      @nicholaslowe2401 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I’m in the camp of making Destiny 3 on a new engine it doesn’t need to be UE5 specifically, however with how much code bloat that Destiny 2 has been stacked with legacy code spanning back all the way to the Blam engine I see little value in spending man time remaking Destiny 2 from almost scratch on a new engine when it would take the same amount of time to just make Destiny 3 which in my opinion is the better option. I want to do more in the game then just explore the limited open worlds or sandbox that can never be expanded because the Tiger engine has a meltdown if Bungie ever tries to add a new perk slots to guns. While we can port or remake Destiny’s foundation using the code used to make the physics, abilities, gunplay, etc it’s better to utilize Unreals better tech such as graphics, memory, AI generation, and offloading engine development costs that could of been spent on building the game rather than reworking the Tiger engine for a fifth time just to buy Destiny 2 another three years on the shelf.
