    I've been trying to learn the boxer step for a while, watched a few videos on TH-cam etc with not much success to be honest, watched this one twice and hey I'm doing it now! Thank you so much this is a really simple but great vid! 👍😃

    Out of all the boxer step videos hers looks the most fluid. I cant seem to do it like her!!

      Thanks Jason! It takes some practice. It’s always helpful to start with NO rope and then try it while swinging your rope to the side.

    What exactly is the benefit in comparison to a standard alternate foot step? For a fraction of a second two feet are on the ground which doesn't happen in an alternate foot step. On the other hand you're shifting weight from side to side which consumes energy. Is it more energy efficient than an alternate foot step?

      These are good questions Thorsten. The fitness benefits are roughly the same although the boxer step is a little more challenging coordination-wise. Some athletes like to jump rope in patterns that resemble what they might do in a given sport. So it is with the boxer step. For some jumpers the boxer step is more efficient than the alternate foot step and for some it's less so. We try not to get too hung up on the differences between the two as they're not all that significant.

      @@PunkRopeNYC Done a little bit of research. There seem to be two basic variations of the boxer skip:
      1. the side to side one which you demonstrate in this video. The weight is on the "outer" leg. The whole body is shifting from side to side.
      2. back to front - a variation of the forward straddle or scissors where the weight is on the back leg. The upper body does not shift - only the lower body. See th-cam.com/video/fLiozP7GVeA/w-d-xo.html

      Thorsten Kampe yes, the back to front is basically the Ali shuffle. It’s really a different movement.

      I find its easier to jump for a longer period time with the boxer step because you are constantly alternating. Plus its just more fun. When things are fun we do it longer, when we do it longer we have a better workout. Boxer step rules! I still dont look near as smooth as Shawna when i do it. She jumps as if she is light as a feather. I think i recognized my issue recently. I needed to go back to basics with my basic bounce. I dont think i was being controlled enough and truly developing the muscles and coordination in my legs.
