    The fact that you immediately took tension off the line and let that tag just hang at the end shows you have ultimate faith in this method. Thanks for sharing Randy

    I just watched you do a video talking about fluorocarbon on your spinning rod. I just added the Seagar 8 lb test to my spinning rod. What a huge difference on casting, and getting your bait to maximum depth quickly. I was really shocked on how well this line stayed on my spinning reel. The yellow label Seagar is unbelievable fishing line. Really a good tip that you gave all of us.

    Never thought of this, its a great tip. I do braid to fluro because of cost. Braid lasts me 2 or 3 seasons, easy, and I can always unwind it off the reel, spool it up backwards, and get another 2 or 3 seasons. You can't do that with fluro. I do think the sensitivity claims of braid to fluro are overstated though.

    *Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*

    Randy,
    I have limited myself many years with the fact of being
    a bait caster dude rejecting the spinning rigs however after 69 years I have ordered my first spinning reel and rod. I going with 10 LB invis-x line. Thanks for the tips on how to spool the line. I did go with 200 yd reels but I think I will put the reel in a smaller container of water then run a shaft through the reel and through the sides of the container of water to have close to the same effect. I think my plan will work.
    Thanks for the great information, I really enjoy your videos.

    Interesting water trick, this is similar to my water trick only I have found that water temp was crucial. The water had to be hot but not boiling. So try this sometime and maybe share your results as your channel is quite popular. Fill a glass bowl with water and microwave it so that it is hot but not so hot that you can't put your hand in it. This might be easier if you overheat the water then let it cool. Then repeat your method exactly. What this does is aid in relaxing the memory of the line and give you that extra edge against those legendary issues with folrocarbon and spinning reels. Good luck and happy hunting!

    To me this is so right, when I think how twist works. Learned a lot about twist from my garden hose :) Here the line comes off the factory spool the same way as it came on at factory. Tangential! When casting it comes off the reel the same way as it came on, but in reverse. So the line has the same twist in air as it had at the factory before the final spool. That must be the intention.

    One reason Im on braid to Flouro still is the cost. Its not a big deal with a couple reels but 10-15 reels a season adds uo with flouro. I feel good about 2-3 seasons out of braid.

    Good tip what were used to do was after spiraling the line we will go to the lake and if there's not too much boat traffic just let that
    Loose in the water let trailer behind the boat it'll unravel untwist and just a friction of the water will let you put it back on tight

    In lieu of your dish of water to put your spool into do you think it would do the same thing with a wet towel in your hand and squeezing the towel as the line goes through? The reason I'm asking is that I spool line at the shop I work in with a motor powered unit to spool on new line! Always looking for a better way to serve our customers.

    I agree that fish can probably see the braid. Resulting in less bites. I do a lot of finesse fishing with spinning rods. One benefit of braid to fluro leader is being able to switch out the fluro # test as needed . With straight fluro thus isn't an option. Meaning i will need more spinning rod n reels.

  • @jbjgibbons
    @jbjgibbons 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Not here saying this is wrong....obviously Randy knows what works. But take a minute to consider the mechanics of a spinning reel. When you cast, the line comes off twisted. And when you reel in, the mechanism untwists the line and lays it flat. Therefore, for me, the best way to put line a a spinning reel will always be to remove the spool and put the line on with a machine that lays the line flat, just as it comes off the spool.

    I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard that after you spool up a reel, you should remove the spool and put it in a glass of pretty warm water for about 20 minutes to remove the "memory" from the original spool and imprint the new spool dimension into the line.

    I see a lot of the Japanese fisherman do this with there line or floro or mono mainly but I always been a braid to leader guy an never had any issues an I can tie a leader to leader knot in under a minute. So it's not much time being spent tying a leader but maybe for someone who is a beginner or doesn't know how to tie leaders fast would maybe be a pain in the butt or maybe if ur fishing in snaggy areas. Also a lot of Japanese fisherman do braid to leader as well and they don't seem to have much issues and when I put my leader I usually am putting like 8 to10 foot of leader and not like 2 feet reason maybe I never had issues with catching fish.

  • @bradleyrussell1973
    @bradleyrussell1973 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Here’s a fact. I rarely used braid until this season, as I wanted braid on a top water twitch rod. The FIRST cast, I was absolutely SHOCKED at how much farther my Pop-R Magnum went than the day before. Now, I’m not sure why you don’t get more distance with braid, maybe using micro guides on rods with braid makes the difference, I don’t know. You’re the seasoned pro, not me. I will say this, from now on, ALL of my top water rods will be 7’ Med, fast action, with micro guides, spooled with 30lb braid. This is the ONLY setup I use braid on. Training yourself not to set the hook, but just pull when you feel the fish, will also result in more second strikes, because setting the hook on a missed bite sounds like a nuclear bomb just went off with a Magnum sized chug bait. Braid should ALWAYS cast farther than flouro or mono because of smaller diameter AND it’s just softer. Physics.

      @michaelg8841 2 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @bhmsupra
    @bhmsupra 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Not a hater, not a complainer. I watch all, comment on all and like all your videos EVERY day. So now that's out of the way.......You are correct, straight floro, mono, braid have their place. I keep about 6 to 8 spinning rods on board all rigged based on the situation. This is the real story on Braid to Floro. It's a FACT (I've tested it) YES, braid will cast further than straight floro. Not by much, maybe 5% to 10% further depending on rod length and bait weight. Due to less stretch, braid also transmits the energy of a hook-set more efficiently when needed like at the end of a long cast or in deep water, this is a big advantage. And lastly, Braid to floro is a value add option. Quality floro is expensive and we don't all get free line like some folks. By utilizing the braid to floro, my line costs have been cut in half because I only change the braid perhaps once per year. Randy, sometimes you are very "matter of fact" and some of your statements are dead wrong. Shape your content a bit and get off your know-it-all mentality. I get it that these videos are only 10 to 15 minutes long and you have to be poignant and efficient with your message but find a way to quit making everyone think they are doing it wrong unless they do it your way.

    It looks like you left a considerable amount of line on the spool. Is that mono line? why didn't you tie the flourocarbon line onto the line that is already on the reel. I was thinking of leaving a load of mono line on the reel then put about 100 yds of flourocarbon on the reel to save money. Is that cool?

    Richard Gene also likes to spool up it up wet.

    Gave up on Fluoro for anything but leader. Wrapped it both ways and still get a slinky.

    Invisx is very soft and stretchy. I prefer the harder flouros. 6 lbs max.

    braid to flouro with a double uni knot works best for me. it’s never let me down. i cast farther and smoother and catch bigger fish.

    Never thought about spooling it like this, will have to try this. I used fluorocarbon line a long time ago on a spinning reel and nothing but bad luck, the line that I used was not that great. Seaguar line is some incredible stuff, I have been using their braid for awhile and it is great! I will take your advice and try seaguar line (big spool) and try this water trick. Thank you sir for this great tip!! :)

    Hey Randy... Do u use floro exclusively? No braid at all?

    Is it me, or maybe the camera angle, but that looked like a LOT more than 1/8" inch of room to the edge of the reel. Regardless, GREAT advice. I'm going to try this. As proficient as I've gotten at tying on leaders, I'm tired of it (spinning or casting).

    Are you going through that first eye or reeling directly from spool to reel?

      Looks like 1st eye, helps with tension

    Braid will still knot up at times as well. Also nothing worse then the knot failing as it runs through the guides on a cast. Thinking about straight fluoro again. Not to mention time it takes to retie a leader no matter what the knot is

      Me too. I enjoy the fg knot, but tired of the knot failing over time and constantly changing the leader due to changing lures, i only have three rods. I think spinning rods should just be straight fluro brcause of the finesse aspect of it. I do love the braid to fluro on baitcasters.
