There’s nothing wrong with being critical of things that you love. Often times I find myself being most critical of the things I like the most because I want them to be better. Anyway, I love the content Waydot and I’ll be here for whatever you decide to put out!
Well, yeah, there is. Just because you have criticisms of something doesn’t mean that’s what’s right for the game. People seem to not understand that things will NEVER be 100 percent to their liking. I haven’t been able to find a single game that I’ve played for 100+ hours that I haven’t had some sort of issue with. Because if I wanted my ideal game, I’d have to make it myself. When others make things, they’re not in your head nor are they specifically making it for you; they’re making it for them. And you can see how people don’t get along these days and all the differing opinions… The solution is to suck it up, realize it’s all entertainment and either deal with it or move on to something else (until you inevitably find issues with that). It’s actually almost borderline pathetic to complain about a video game or movie or anything like that while sitting in a comfortable chair in an insulated house with climate control. There are much worse things to be upset about.
@@TheSCPStudio you had me in the first sentence, don't fully agree with the second, but it has some truth to it, then the rest of the comment goes off the rails.
@@TheSCPStudio You're mixing up criticism and complaining, you see my video is productive and offers insights to a new players experience with this game. What you're talking about is complaining which is generally non productive and usually just ends up hurting or harming one side of the argument.
As someone who regularly takes breaks from OSRS to go play RS3, then takes breaks from RS3 to go play OSRS, I feel you. Your criticisms of the game are valid, and the same things I most wish to see improvement in when it comes to RS3. I love both games, for entirely different reasons. I'll miss the RS3 series, a lot. As much as I love both games, there is in my opinion an oversaturation on OSRS content and an undersaturation on RS3 ironman content. I loved watching Nooblet before he went back to OSRS. I loved watching you before you went back to OSRS. You were however kind of the last of your kind. There is no other series I can now turn to for RS3 content. It simply doesn't exist. I don't mean this as an insult and I hope you won't take it as one, but from my perspective, for osrs you are "just another one of the twenty ironman content creators". In RS3, you were the go-to. The only one. I'll stay subscribed in the hopes of seeing RS3 content again in the future. The best to you, friend. It's been a fun journey ever since the day you uploaded episode 1 of the RS3 series.
This is some very high praise, I sincerely appreciate your comment. I'm definitely not swearing off of RS3 forever, just taking a break and exploring some new avenues. Thanks again man
dude. the grociery list of tasks is why i still havent come back. its so annoying getting on, looking at a succesful bank/gearset amd just being instantly put off because there are so many things to do. its endless and has no direction. im glad you think that too.
I've been playing RS3 for probably my whole life, and I 100% agree with what u had to say, I think this video coming from an OSRS player could help a lot to settle some hatred between OSRS and RS3 community. RS3 is far from being a perfect game, but I love the game and love to see new ppl enjoying to play. I really enjoyed the perspective u brought to the game as a "new" player, the feel of watching someone learn the things I feel is so easy and normal, it makes this series enjoyable.
As someone who is maxed on RS3 and made the transition to OSRS over the past couple of months I can say the tick system doesn't bother me, but that's probably because I've been playing RuneScape since the early days. That being said I can see how it holds the game back and since it already is setting itself apart from its past I could see how this could majorly benefit the game. You're actually the first content creator to highlight couple of areas that actually made me switch and basically verbatim. Nice video, Waydot.
Been playing Rs3 since 2010, never once felt the pressure of weekly, daily, or hourly scape and I have felt that pressure in other games, I think this is just your mindset.
Just to pre-empt any critics of this vid, I wanna say this: I'm in the GIM series with Waydot, and while I'm enjoying the heck out of it, I still consider RS3 as my main game. I've invested too much time, energy, and honestly just straight up love into it for that to change. OSRS will probably one day get to the same level for me, but my love for RS3 is not going anywhere. I still play it every day, even though I'm devoting a lot of time to OSRS now. That said, I agree with all of Waydot's points here. I've played RS3 forever, and I'm used to a lot of the stuff that makes the game so completely inaccessible to new players. But that's the crux of the problem: RS3 is going to die out if it doesn't course correct and soon. The daily scape has taken over just playing the game as a means of progressing it, disincentivizing the kind of cooperative gameplay that made Runescape the nostalgic MMORPG that people fell in love with in the first place. The tick system is incredibly hard to get used to, especially for the kind of game RS3 is trying to be, and so much of the high level pvm content can feel like the difference between basic addition and calculus for someone who doesn't already know how it all works. The mtx is getting to the point where it feels like it's turning into one of those mtx-reliant mobile games that people only know of from skipping ads for it. Maybe that's a bit of a doom and gloom scenario, but like Dots said, players like us are sounding this alarm *because* we love the game. We want it to succeed. We want it to last another 20 years. We're just afraid it won't. Thanks for making this, Dots.
@@Waydots Thank you, I'll check it out. I already started on the wrong foot. Wanted to make an ironman to avoid the MTX shenanigans but didn't realize until the end that the account setup isn't the same as OSRS.... RIP.
I'm somewhat new to the RS3 experience - only really learning about the game through recommended videos after watching Hanannie's series. It looks like there's so much to love, but you covered the two biggest things that have put me off trying it. The MTX and the hourly-daily-weeklies. So much of the game looks like a blast to play but I can't get past the feeling that I'll be massively disadvantaged if I'm not religious about timer-based activities and MTX, and neither of those are things I'm interested in. Might not be as big of an issue if you're invested and already playing the game but for a new/returning player coming from pre-EOC or OSRS it feels like way too big of a barrier to overcome.
The MTX thing is a bad thing for the game to have because it takes away from the development of the game. and it is gambling. However, it doesn't impact your gameplay as much because you can play everything in the game without spending money for treasure hunter. The Xp rates for most skills are good and the cosmetics you get from the loyalty shop (rewards from being a member) are as good as the rune store (mtx). It sucks that dailies consume your time but a lot of them are fun and make getting to your goal easier. it is true you feel like you cant miss them but if you chose to do something else instead of a daily, why does it matter? thats called opportunity cost, its part of life. go kill a boss or do a quest instead that d&D you do at reset. the game is for you to have fun, not rush to max your skills.
Solid video. RS3 has been my main gain for several years and I agree with most of your points. I absolutely agree that RS3 really isn't really in a good place for new players. It's so reliant on players and the wiki (rather than the game itself) directing you and helping you understand your way around. In the case of PvM (which is what I play the game for now), there is little-to-no combat tutorial, so you even get "high" level players (who have played the game and PvMed for 100's of days of game time) who still don't understand the underlying principles of a lot of what is going on. Also, most of us share your feelings about MTX, and know that vulnerable people are being taken advantage of to prop up the game financially and line the pockets of the higher-ups. And honestly, loads of us have been asking for a way to disable all cosmetics (for all people), because a lot of the cosmetics look dumb and ruin any kind of immersion (case and point: that Hannannie clip). Finally, "dailyscape" is getting out of hand, I agree. Although imo that's something that ironmen have more of a problem with than mains. It's one reason I refuse to play my iron. If you are a main, it does remain a problem until you max/reach your desired xp goals, then it ceases to be one. For example, given that I only pvm nowadays, I haven't had to do any dailies for years. Overall, great job on the video. Was a good watch.
sad to see the Rs3 content taking a brake foe now, good rs3 content is already few and far between, i hope you keep enjoying the GIM for many months to come! Switching your perspective now and then, weather thats going to OSRS, or playing a new account in a different way is super refreshing
Fair points! But don't hold your breath about these things changing. Rs3 is a lot of fun, and also a lot of crap. To me the solution is simply to play other games as well, which it seems like you're doing. But if the motivation returns, I'd definitely watch another rs3 video :)
The dailies/weekly things don't bother me; whenever I just feel like playing, I just don't do them. RS used to not have these, so why feel like you HAVE to do them?
Great video man :) i do agree with most points tbf. I never really thought about the tick system as somethign bad tbf, maybe cuz im just so used to it at this point and I know even tho it can be confusing for new players, once they get up to mid/high lvl combat they will have gotten used to it. In terms of MTX my biggest issue is the lack of "effort-items" it has been pumping out the last few years. Holiday events starts getting based around treasure hunter and some afk event they just remade from last year instead of making up a unique fun and entertaining quest or something. Similar is all the items being added for dxp or in general, protean items to cover all gathering and production skills, dummys for the rest etc etc. I know protean items arent always faster than the regular way, it just offers a more afk/semifast and free method. But why do we need protean items for so many skills, whats wrong with training the skill its intended way or just make the skill more enjoyable to train instead of shuffling in protean items left and right. Dummys are at this point my biggest dislike of MTX, I know plenty of people will disagree because "dummys are so nice, afk and nice exp for dxp and in general". But at the same time when you log onto dxp and you see hundreds of ppl beating the shit out of skilling dummys for their exp instead of actually training the skill, it looks a bit weird. Again I think nothing wrong with using whats offered and is a part of the game however I would much rather see the game actually make skills more enjoyable/engaging/etc to train the normal way, so that not every skill has to be replaced by a dummy or a protean item. I know most people do train the inteded or "normal" way but dummyscape imo is still getting a bit out of hand. Kinda creates the incentive of "Most important part of the game is to see number go up" and not, "Damn I really enjoy training this skill". Prolly my longest you tube comment ever lol, take it or leave it. Now I'm gonna study math :)
Damn, it was just a couple weeks ago I discovered your series and watched all the way through in about 2 days, been hoping to catch you streaming. As a former OS player too I always understand reasons people leave RS3 though, for now, I'll just hope to see you come back and try out some of the later game pvm.
i feel like i can offer a unique insight here, i'm a new player to runescape i have wanted to play the game for years but i stuggled to see where the content was and where the "hook" was but over the last 2 weeks i have been playing both RS3 and OSRS DAILY and as a second monitor game and i have been loving it, i know if i get tired of the microtransactions i can just go over to my ironman account but for the most part i've just been taking the keys given to me by quests and membership and getting on with playing the game, don't get me wrong the slot machine that is treaure hunter isnt a good thing at all but i've ignored it for the most part and been able to enjoy the game in fact i have not even looked into what you can get from the keys aside from xp and some other random junk none of the drops from treasure hunter have had me thinking "damn thats busted" i just go "huh, cool" whenever i get a xp lamp i can toss right into a skill i dont care to grind while i go back to making nature runes in the abyss i've been having a blast with this game but i can see the issues and perverted nostalgia of the game because world of warcraft was my nostalgic game and i cannot see anything of the game i spent my teenage years playing in WoW and i imagine for alot of people that is what RS3 is for them but from what i have seen of old school its doing the concept of "classic" much better than WoW is where even in WoW classic they are selling cosmetics and other garbage that puts me off even playing that game even though Wrath of the Lich king was my earliest and fondest memories of WoW as a 14 year old gamer at the time RS3 has alot of good things going for it but also alot of bad and i think alot of people could really get into the game if they tried
Your RS3 Videos were one of the reasons for me to start my RS3 Ironman again. Yes it has flaws, but most games have. MTX is something I think we will never get rid of anymore in RS3. Its just the biggest Moneygrab for Jagex they have and aslong as there are people throwing daddys creditcards against it we will never get rid of it. Ive played mainscape from 2006 till now with alot of breaks and somehow keep returning once in a while. I can see why people play OSRS, but for some reason I dont enjoy osrs anymore as much as I do rs3. But thats the great thing about RS, U can play which u want when u want. :)
It's funny to say this, but when (true) maxing and comping I actually felt relieved, because I could start to skip different dailies and other such stuff. So instead of doing like 4 hours of dailies across multiple accounts I can now just do about 1-1,5h of dailies instead.
I 10000% agree with your points on daily/hourly/monthly/weekly/whateverly nonsense. I'm close to maxing my iron and I just... can't be bothered, and it's entirely because of that. The game isn't nearly as fun when I feel like I HAVE to do things.
Appreciate the review, I was hoping to find something to disagree with so I wouldn't just be solely agreeing with you but the best stretch of a counterpoint I can think of is "some people will like that they have to do the wiki; some of us research missions anyway and this way, nobody can wag their finger at us disapprovingly for not reading the dialogue" again I had to do a couple years of yoga before I could pull off a stretch like that but that's the best counterpoint I can think of.
A lot of what you've said is true, but I don't necessarily think that they're all problems, rather just different styles of game. There are millions of games out there that hold your hand along every step of the way, etc. They're great games and appeal to a wide audience. But there are also plenty of games with complex systems and no clear instructions where you have to watch youtube videos, read wikis and just google stuff to figure it out. Minecraft, Terraria, OSRS and RS3 are all games I love, but can't recommend to anyone without a second monitor to have a wiki tab open in. The tick system is dodgy as fuck, but do you expect them to change it at this point? At a certain point games have to stagnate, otherwise they alienate all their current playerbase. Neverwinter MMO redid their combat system and people left in droves. TH and Dailyscape are both absolutely addiction bait, but dailyscape I think is pretty on par with any game with daily missions. Keen to see GIM stuff.
About the "25% gameplay vs 75% research", I feel like that's an integral part of any game. (Minecraft, Elden Ring, New World,...) Basically, any game that has any type of complexity and isn't just plain as boring singular player experience with no replayability. Why do people look up stuff? Because the game was designed with exploration and experimenting in mind.
I have played all three of those games you mentioned, minecraft I don't think I've ever used any outside information for.. and for the first few days of elden ring and new world I definitely was just exploring and figuring things out myself. The reason RS3 is seperate in this, is like i mentioned in the video, your user interface can be a problem. When i started playing I didn't even know i had the option to switch which experience I was getting when using melee, I thought you just got all 3 skills and that was that. Afterwards once I learned you could toggle them, it took me 10 minutes of googling to actually find where in the settings I could change that.
@@Waydots idk, for me Minecraft was like 90% wiki and 10% gameplay (but I was big on Redstone so...) Elden Ring was "go for it" until you learn that certain stuff prevents you from doing other stuff, so you start looking stuff up due to FOMO or because the dungeons are complete BS in design and regularly have rewards that aren't worth the hassle. New World, similar thing, early-game ok, but once you've done majority of exploring, efficiency-scape comes in and you start looking up the best locations to get resources and how to do a lot of stuff that the game doesn't explain. Not to say that it means RS3 is good in design, but just to say that "it's because the game is 20years old" is not an excuse and that even modern games have those issues. And idk, I feel like the default-settings in RS3 aren't that bad, for a casual player. Once you start caring about efficiency, YES, 100% they're horrible. But that's the thing, a new player, trying out a game for the first time, usually doesn't care about efficiency. They care about exploring and just doing stuff. To go along with your Melee example, which would be more infuriating? Hitting once every hour (if by default only Strength was enabled) or hitting consistently but only 100s (Attack enabled) VS consistently hitting average damage and not instantly getting bonked (all 3 enabled) So from a noob-perspective, the default settings aren't horrible. And once you get more into the game, you'll look up stuff anyway (or join a clan) and discover that you have other options to optimize it. Is it perfect, NO, but it's decent.
@@MrSimpsondennis Well I guess our experiences differ, sure I look things up and use outside information in other games but in the case of RuneScape 3 I think you will fail to succeed or progress in the game in any sort of meaningful way without spending a large amount of time researching , watching, and consuming outside information that the game does not have readily available. Can you do quests without a guide? Sure but be prepared for it to take 2,3, sometimes even 10x longer than if you had just used a guide.
@@Waydots I agree that the interface can be a bit confusing even for me, been playing since May of 2008. Focused combat XP training been a core feature since at least when I was playing RS2 because I remember Duel Arena videos on TH-cam and combat pures.
Completely agree with this whole video. As someone with a main and iron on both games I have my own issues with both. However I feel that OSRS can work on the issues I have but the over-prevalence of TH for RS3 doesn't fill me with confidence that the same can happen. I only play my iron nowadays so I'm not hit by the MTX hammer. However, I want to get the ability overrides but short of having a great deal of liquid cash I can't get these. Why aren't these in Solomon Store so I can buy a cosmetic for a set price? Does the income of keys for 1 TH promotion outweigh the permanent income from people purchasing through the store? An entire subset of their players are taken out of the equation for their profits which doesn't make sense to me. Clearly not Jagex material! Keep up the content, either game as long as you're enjoying yourself we will be watching.
I've played since 2002 and I have played more RS3 than OSRS. My main dislikes are of course MTX and dailyscape. I have been playing a UIM/GIM on OSRS for the last couple of years because it is so much more rewarding to achieve a goal on your own. I really think RS3 could be so much greater if they fixed some of these core issues. I enjoy the combat, and as an adult, I enjoy the faster leveling of skills since I don't have as much time to play as I use to.
Fully agree with the tick-system. Learning to use defensives that share the same GCD as all your offensive abilities absolutely broke me early on. i know a lot of people who come from other MMO's like WOW and just cannot get on with it, and eventually leave when it's not about learning PVM or mechanics, its about learning to use the janky system.
you brought up a lot of good points and feed back about the game. as someone who has played rs off and on for past 21 years. Only thing i disagree with you is your opinion on daily scape. No matter the game WoW EQ RS3 etc I rarely ever done dailies unless forced (mostly wow forced me for rep). I just never been a fan and just do them on a whim and never lost any sense of "efficiency"
@@Bynbrooke totally agree I am in the minority of that, however I can't help to feel that's more of a issue of the player base not the game. Game offers for those who want efficiency play which is awesome for those types of players, and offer for those who don't.
Good review. For me the lack of any kind of theme in the cosmetics is a big one. Doesn't really feel like RuneScape anymore. Hope you enjoy GIM. Osrs certainly has is issues as well, but none of the issues discussed in this video. Good luck 👋
Yeah, I forgot to say in my comment (which was already of substantial length)... They do my nut in mate! Yeah extra income for Jagex whatever (not having a dig at that), some look good but the majority just look dog shit! && of course lacking a theme. The home teleport emote over rides wind me up as well. Wasn't actually a fan of cosmetics when they came out but have come round in later years..
I've had my account since 2008 and have played on and off over the years, but I'm finally almost 99 in all skills. I just play casually, doing some easy PvM and skilling for max cape. It's my option but I really don't mind the use of the wiki as a medium for explaining things. If I have questions about the game, there's always a wiki article, TH-cam videos about, or someone in game to ask. Most questions I've had are answered in less than 30 seconds. I guess there could be a more guided path for beginner players, but it's not really what RuneScape is about. At its heart, RuneScape is a sandbox MMO, so there really isn't a "correct" way to play the game. Natural discovery was always more interesting than just being told what to do.
Your comments around dailyscape really resonate with me. I constantly struggle with the fact that I could be min maxing. I have to remind myself that I play the game for fun, stay strong and just do what I want to do. It does bother me a bit, but then again, what do I want them to do about it? Remove the content from the game?
Yeah man, fair criticism. I'm just sick with all the small stuff that add up. I still love the game though. And I can't play any other game including osrs. I hope they continue to make the game better, and actually listen to the players that's keeping their game alive.
Great video. As someone who plays both WoW and OSRS, RS3 has always seemed like an interesting game to me. I would've played it a long time ago if it wasn't for the MTX.
As a player who doesn't enjoy OSRS purely due to the lack of interesting combat for me. I likely won't be watching any of the OSRS content, i just don't have an interest in it enough to watch yet another content creator put content out for it. Nothing against you, just if I want to scratch the itch of watching OSRS there's like a dozen other content creators that I've watched for years that I can go to. It was a nice change of pace to see someone play the side of this game that I do enjoy despite its giant glaring flaws. There still is other content creators I can watch for it, but they are such a leap above me in terms of skill that it's harder to watch and enjoy. Best of luck, hopefully I see some of the RS3 content whenever you decide to return, but for now it'll probably be farewell.
I've played OSRS off and on since its release. Your videos, along with Dovydas's, convinced me to try RS3 again about six months ago. After a couple of weeks I was drawn back to Old School for several reasons, the main reason being that RS3 is just too much. I know that's probably because I'm so comfortable with OSRS, but just like you said, I found myself researching the game more than I was playing it. Sometimes I only had a couple of hours to play, I did not want to spend that time reading the wiki and completing dailies. Regardless, I enjoyed your RS3 content and I'm excited to watch you play Old School. Good luck, and HAVE FUN!
In a counter argument to that, Doesn't that mean your discovering new things and learning? Which is what we all loved to do 15-20 years ago with old school. Honestly, that's what has kept me going with RS3. I'm an iron man so MTX doesn't effect me at all but the new content is just so fun to learn and explore. OS just doesn't have enough updates to keep it fresh for me.
i would love to see quest helper in RS3, i have spent most of my quest time pressing spacebar and reading from alt 1, i loved qquesting in OSRS simply because Quest helper basically helps me out xD
think your point about quest helper isn't right, it completely takes away from the experience of the game, on oldschool everything is so sleeper. the client you can use tells you exactly what option to pick and exactly where to go without having to take in anything. in rs3, even if using the wikis text guide, i'm paying way more attention to everything i'm doing, and feel much more involved in the game, taking that unique point of questing away and making it sleeper just turns it into every other games' quests.
That pretty much like aim hacking on fps games. What's the point on just moving your character around and nt doing any of the work? Shit's just boring.
@Waydots bro, you can sugarcoat it as much as you like, but the fact is that runelite simplifies the game for you the same way hacks simplify other games. It may not be a hack, but it kinda acts like one, whether you like it or not. 🤷♂️
@@Waydotsno it is way more than wiki on the screen, highlighted text options, highlighted npcs, highlighted paths to run, it ruins the whole experience. i completed while guthix sleeps on my iron to get the best pickaxe (was inspired to kill chaos dwarfs from your vid, got both picks in 550 kills hehe) and it wasn't a fun quest, it was very long and very tedious, but i actually felt rewarded for it, felt that i accomplished something. with quest helper there's none of that, it's just brainless clicking what is highlighted
@@necrofear9896 but if it highlights what to click on.... when you can just go to the wiki and read what to click on i genuinely dont see the difference
There is one point i wholly disagree with and that is adding a quest helper to rs3. As a veteran player i have always completed each of my quests on my main without wiki help (even mep2, though it did take a while), often on day of release when there is no guide yet. Actually reading the dialogue/books and checking the quest guide should get you through most quests without outside help, which is how they are supposed to be played from a game design perspective. Now this mindset is not limited to quests, people have a tendency to dislike some content for no reason other than other people saying they don't like it. Without properly engaging with the content in question, they already have a negative opinion.
As someone who has played other mmo's, I quite like cosmetics. I played rs since I was a child and so much osrs it burnt me out; and tbh I hate when everyone is in bis in osrs and we all look like soldier 47. I like the unique fashionscape that cosmetics give us. I do wish they would get rid of fkn wings thouigh.
I don't dislike cosmetics as a whole. I dislike the direction RS3 has taken cosmetics almost to absurdity as some points with insane particles, giant bulky models, and like you said WINGS everywhere lol.
Osrs player here. Whenever I get the urge to play rs3 I'm reminded about the fact that there's dailies and activity on the hour or specific on a specific time. Like I have obligations and shit. I won't plan my life around when x activity is available. So then I end up not playing
I personally was the one player from my friend group that didn't quit soon after eoc was released. But what made me quit was the rs3 update. Old RS visuals had slowly been replaced for years, and with the completely new blue modern interfaces and stuff like that, the RuneScape ambience was gone for me for good. Another point is all the cosmetics over the years ... I was never able to point out why exactly I had an issue with them. But I think they made Runescape feel less like Runescape. I used to be able to recognize pretty much any piece of equipment in the game at one point. Now everything just looks weird and convoluted I guess. I guess the other two big points for me (other than the combat system) are 1) daily scape, and 2) the fact that the game encourages you to just skip the content. And I'm not just talking about mtx. There is so many handouts the game gives (usually coupled with dailyscape) that make it inefficient to train a skill with conventional means. Even on my ironman, I've never really trained herblore. Instead I did my jack of trades, troll minigame etc.. It honestly feels pretty refreshing that in osrs, I know that if I want to get 90 herblore, I have to mix potions until I reach 90 herblore. Finally, one thought that I'd often had is that EoC itself probably isn't a bad system. The issue for me was this: The people that had decided to play Runescape back in the day had done so because they liked the core elements of that game. Even if the new combat system isn't bad, it took runescape out of the niche it was sitting in, and as a result turning it into a completely different game.
The idea of being against daily weekly monthlys ect. Is like complaining about having too much content. I just ignore the ones i dislike in favor of what i find fun. No matter the game max efficiency is always less fun.
Thats great you can ignore the ones you dislike and choose to only have fun. I am going to assume here that you are a more casual player and thats totally fine. But a large portion of people who play this game, might spend 6+ hours or longer every single day working on their progress. Once you have done these dailies or even hourlies everyday for a few months none of them are fun anymore, but you are missing out on massive rewards if you decide to ignore them. I love the idea that everyone plays video games to just have fun but that's not really the case especially with MMO's, people find the "fun" in progress, and i don't even think fun is the right word, it's more about a sense of satisfaction and a job well done. So missing out on these opportunities to get good exp and things actually just feels bad thus reducing progression, fun, and satisfaction.
Oh man.. I mean I have played RuneScape on this account for 75 days over the course of 9 months.. your making me feel like a bit of a degen here lol. But nah I've played RuneScape since I was 9. Over 17 years ago I created my first account. My actual playtime in total across all my accounts including osrs must be >1000 days.
honestly sometimes i feel like the people who get "confused" and its "too much" for them when playing rs3 are the same people who get confused by smartphones or switching to a different browser lol. You literally have everything spelled out to you in the pop up tutorials on the screen
@@Waydots i dont even think its intelligence (or its lack) in this case, rather laziness or just.. I have the feeling that they just want rs3 to be osrs
@@Waydots not the new players but the old ones who say they play on osrs because rs3 is too complicated. Id rather say that osrs is more complicated and (most of all) tedious than rs3 which holds it back much more from new players coming there and actually staying.
You're assuming your content has fallen of because you're a 'regular player' now. Where are you getting these assumptions from? I've been following you ever since you started and I've enjoyed every episode! Not even one has been more boring than the other.
Honestly think this is a cop out because your OSRS videos got more views than your RS3. If that’s the case then just say that, don’t lie to your viewers. You went on about MTX but you’re an iron, you literally don’t have MTX.
Nah if it was a cop out I wouldn't have uploaded anything. And yes irons do have MTX, and most importantly mtx affects all who play the game even if they don't partake in it.
Honestly, I agree with everything you said. I have a 20 year cape, so I have also been playing for pretty much my entire life. Even when I have played RS3 this entire time I still get so confused on some content - even after watching guides. I need it to be spelled out for me literally otherwise I just don't get it. I'm not bad at games either, I typically rank top 0.1% in ranked games I play like LoL, TFT, Apex, etc. RS3 is genuinely just really confusing to understand at times and it's not good for new players at all. Almost all of my friends who have attempted to play RS3 quit because they just get so lost with how to even begin to understand something like Archaelogy, Invention, some quests are so CONFUSING, etc. It's really sad how most of us NEED a wiki to understand what to do when content comes out. I also play WoW and I can generally do content on release without a guide no issues. No confusion on any other games I play, but RS3 is genuinely a lot... MTX won't change, that's almost all of their income so that's here to stay. I think it's just play OSRS if you're against MTX or just don't play at all if OSRS isn't your thing either. It's really sad and unfortunate but that's just how it is and how it will likely stay. Good video!
Everyone always immediately goes to talking about chorescape, and treasure hunter/mtx as issues with the game, so damn im glad to see someone actually mention the tick system as an issue. I love pve content, I come from decades of playing wow, and more recently ff14 where the content i love is raiding, and dungeons, and Id really love to get more into pvm in rs, but every time I try, it doesnt take long for me to get frustrated with how often i know what im supposed to do, where im supposed to stand, what im supposed to pray, but that gets invalidated by it just not lining up with the ticks.
Yeah the tick system is atrociously difficult to get used to if you are coming from any other MMO, obviously it's not an easy fix or something they can just change.. However it is unfortunate for the longevity of RS3
I think server load is the bigger problem. Anything above like 200-300 and your actions get delayed a lot. Unless you know the boss can be very frustrating.
Honestly, jagex could develop a roadmap of slowly transitioning out of, or to a lighter tick system. From the current 0.6s we could go to 0.3s first (which would already be a huge step) then after a while go to 0.1s, which would just feel like playing real time with some ping. I feel like it could be a nice compromise between the two systems, but eventually we could go to 0.05s or 0.01s. Of course, another step could be just to simply 10x every tick: 0.6s to 0.06s, so every tick would now be 10 ticks. I feel like it’s doable for most of the content, not sure where it would be an issue.
Fuck efficiency scape play the game the way that makes u happy..that's what matters most I never worry bout daily scape or whatever I just play it the way that the most fun way for me and cuz of that I hardly lose interest in the game. Always being efficient will easily break u from wanting to even log on.
Fair and valid critisim. Honestly, I play the game more because I enjoy multiple aspects about it. If I don't enjoy something, I don't do it, so to a person like me, changing the game to have more people in it would be the better option, since seeing a game you like to play populated is more important than minor things you can ignore. So yeah, make some changes Jagex, listen to your community, sooner or later the game will start to dip past what the whales can pay for you. Think long term.
Im glad to see you return to our trusted osrs man I gave rs3 a chance myself because of your videos, enjoyed my time with some friends, but we decided that we couldnt find any joy in mid or late game rs3 content ourselves Each of us got an untrimmed slayer cape in about 2 to 4 weeks, some being faster than others, that alone made us realize that it wouldnt bring us any fulfillment
Core gameplay is decent, however I did address this in a major way in the video when I talked about the tick system, which is quite literally the core gameplay system.
i agree with a lot of the gameplay progression issues, but i guess in 20 years ive never been the type to feel like " i have to do my daily's" or understand how other people using mtx effects me lol. I just log on and do what i feel like doing, i go days and days without touching a vis wax machine, or going out of my way to claim daily challenges, or do herby, or whatever lol.
Another big problem is the fact that, as years go by, more content is added to the game without proper planning in the long road. Time and time again 1 piece of content is out in the game that kills 3-4 ways of training, makes a bunch of items and activities useless etc. Used (7-10 years ago) to be kind of balanced the way things got added. Now it feels that too much content has been deliberately killed by jagex. It usually was the case that you have about 4-5 ways to train a skill, one of the was the fastest but the alternatives were nice and ok to do it too. Now you’ve one way (2 with luck) and all the others are dead content or a waste of time. When i slowly realized and accepted this, that world begins to feel a lot smaller. Almost a niche hub. It is that feel you have when you go to Lumbridge in the portable server (World 82). It is so big but feels so small. Sad to think this is the game of my life now
It would be so nice if they added like a toggle off option for cosmetics so you didn't have to see all the obnoxious stuff and could just see what other people were actually wearing. Obviously they can do it because it happens when you go into the wild. -sincerely an osrs gamer who hasn't played rs3 in like 6+ years
Love your videos and I’m not meaning to “white knight” for I am in the same boat as you about many things. I’ve all but achieved a close to end game PvM account , and haven’t done a daily. Don’t get me wrong, nearly every friend I have in game has been saying things like “do the clam” , “ do the sink hole” , “ do wiz wax” etc. Well I’m stubborn and I’ve played the game the way I have wanted to play it, and I’ve loved my journey. Maybe I have missed on on millions but it’s a mmo and for me it’s all about having flexibility to play your way.
Maybe it's because I've been playing for 15 years and haven't really touched OSRS, but I always find it weird how people say that rs3 is hard and you need a wiki, and yet with runelite you have a literal plug in that shows you what go click and where to go to finish every quest. Maybe it's me remembering using RuneHQ to solve DT, EW and a slew of others, and it's my boomer mindset, but if there was no runelite, would people have the same complaint?
Well to be honest if you haven't touched osrs or used runelite then I would say it's unfair for you to form an opinion about it. Runelite is made to me be quite a big deal by the rs3 community but as someone who plays both this is what runelite does: prevents me from leaving RuneScape to go to the wiki page. That's literally about it. Most of the other quality of life that exists in runelite already exists in rs3 in some other shape or form.
Could I ask why that would be the case? You're saying how you need to wiki everything in rs3, and yet with runelite you have quite literally everything right there, not just for the wiki either. There's clue addons that will tell you where to go and what to bring, there's markers for whenever you're bossing so that you can set tiles to know where the safe spots are There's even markers for whenever you're doing your D&Ds like tears of Guthix. None of these exist within rs3 to my knowledge unless you use alt1 toolkit, which I'm willing to bet most people in the RS3 community doesn't even know that exist. Now I understand that if I haven't played it I cannot form an opinion, but base of what I see from other OSRS content creators. What you've told me, is what you used it for, while there's probably others that use it for more than just questing.
@@Aioaverona @Aioa Verona yes runelite removes the step of going to the wiki... This is an unnecessary step as you are quite literally not even playing RuneScape. You are looking at the wiki to get the exact same information that runelite tells you. Secondly when it comes to clue scrolls in rs3 I disagree with you saying that the majority of the playerbase does not use alt-1 I think it's quite literally the opposite as in my entire time playing rs3 I did not meet one person who never used alt-1. And third as for marking tiles, I think pvm and combat between the 2 games is the biggest difference and that's where you will see the most contrast. You made 3 points all about 1 feature, marking tiles. Which once again doesn't play the game for you, still requires your own knowledge to mark said tiles, and on top of that doesn't actually do anything for you except relay information about where to stand, definitely not gamebreaking.
@@Waydots Alright thank you for more of the insight . I am sorry if it came out to be hostile, I didn't mean for it to sound that way, I just wanted to get more information on those few things as when I do play OSRS form time to time, I just the vanilla version of each games, while I knew both of it exist. That being said on the Alt1 do you think that Jagex should look more into it, and make it like what Runelite is? Or do you think it should let it just be? Again Sorry if it came out hostile, didn't mean for it to be.
@@Aioaverona @Aioa Verona not hostile at all! Sometimes I can assume a lot from my comments and maybe come off a bit more aggressively than I mean to, which is my bad! But for me personally I think any 3rd party application crosses the line whenever it does more than just relay information that can be found through other means. So in my opinion there is no alt-1 addon that I have heard of which is gamebreaking no
Is 1800 hours of gameplay not enough for me to give a fair review? I did not once mention that everything rs3 is out the window, I said I'm taking a step back to focus on other things.
Good video, I do want to say that 'Runescape revolves around efficiency' is a terrible mindset. Just don't do your dailies if you don't want to do them, I never do them personally (none of them) and I'm almost maxed after only 3 years of playing on and off. It's a game, it's about having fun. Not having fun? Time to play something else.
i started new account when mobile released, got 1.2b total exp, many 120s and 150 invention, 3k vindicta kc, account got hacked and eventho all proof sent of key buy etc, didint get it back, still 3/5 game, jagex just 1/5
Literally agree with 99% of what you said bro! Just made an Iron myself today for the first time on RS3.Also been playing almost 20 years. One thing I find strange is that they removed the duel arena because of 'gambling' and they still have MTX. Where is the logic in that? I'll stick my neck out and admit I have used MTX but legitimately had quite a high level account before I started using it (MTX) as I had already played for many years before the release of MTX. (will also add I was young when I started playing and was still considered a minor when the first micro transactions were released). Say what you will about it, deep down I know it has had a negative impact on mine and other players game experience. I still continue to play that account today albite only when I get time, which is usually a few weeks of the year. 'Maxed' on that account now, whatever that means right? Depressing I know. That being said.. It's what's prompted me to make this Ironman account today. Kinda wish we had group Ironman on RS3.. As I said I don't find loads of time to play these days. I think group Ironman would be a fun and engaging way of making big challenges feel easier and less daunting, questing less arduous ect. Would be nice for Jagex to actually listen to it's players base. Sometimes I'm left wondering how this game can game can survive long term, to achieve this Jagex needs have a serious think about how it addresses such problems. The way Jagex approach the next few years will inevitably determine the survivability of the game in the years to come. Just hope this game will be around and active in another 10 years. Generally I have found the Runescape player community to be very helpful, kind and friendly. Definitely one of the reasons I've stuck round. Great content dude!
dailies and weeklies kill a game for me. Maplestory, rs3, Lost Ark, Genshin Impact, etc. I havent given ffxiv a try yet or wow but the absolute freedom in osrs is what i absolutely love about the game
Just my 2 cents as a maxxed/almost comped RS3 ironman. Dailies don't really bother me because I don't do them. I don't really care about efficiency, I just care about fun and those 2 things aren't married for me. I would RATHER see them gone, but overall it doesn't affect my opinion of the game much. How convoluted the game has become is absolutely a problem. I got a friend to play and most of his questions were "hey how do I do this minigame" and the response was usually "You don't it's dead". The world is incredibly noisy with stuff that isn't relevant and that's a real problem. That doesn't take into consideration how many skills are mostly useless even on an Ironman. Construction is basically hidey hole simulator 2023, Woodcutting is pretty awful outside of early levels and cro, Hunter is pretty bad outside BGH and BGH isn't great either honestly, and several skills are really only useful near max like div or fletching. My biggest issue with the game is MTX though. MTX is a huge problem, buying power isn't healthy for a game generally and the people that are usually attracted by the ability to buy power generally don't stick around which ends up hurting the game overall as the player count drops from those players leaving the game after buying their way to whatever they want, and other players avoiding it because you can buy power, and that's not touching on the gambling side of it. It's super disheartening when patch week rolls around and it's MTX, MTX, MTX, corrected a typo.
They hate because its a different game. I knew OSRS like my own pockets as a kid. Sweating for d claws was fun for a while. But I dont see the fun after 18 years of it.. For me RS had to move forward.
Little surprised by this review after just finishing binging the 51 Ironman series episodes. A lot of fun seemed to be had progressing, questing, learning bossing, exploring content, etc. and I felt that the person I watched the last 51 episodes hasn't come through the same for this video in terms of a review. The whole ironman game mode alone is a good answer to anyone that doesn't care for MTX but wants to enjoy the game. At the end of the day, while it is a turn-off, MTX mainly just robs people of their own personal gameplay experience. High scores are already filled with tons of 5.6b xp players so you'll never win any awards as far as XP goes and PVP is dead in RS3, so the "win" part of P2W isn't really existent. Sure you can pay obscene money to get gp in a game that's 20+ years old, but you'll certainly never be uber-rich in comparison to top players. This isn't even mentioning all the horizontal progression that can't be bought (clues, boss logs, achievements, questing, etc.) As far as the tick system, I understand the opinion, but OSRS has the same tick system and has had explosive popularity and playerbase since it came out - Not really sure I would count that as a negative or critique per-say. Maybe for younger players that are used to fluid character action, but there's still a sizable base that likes it. Last I checked, both games combined have around 100-125k concurrent players. Dailyscape - agreed for the most part but at the end of the day I rather have a bunch of options for dailies and simply decide which ones to do or ignore rather than not have them at all. I agree it would be good to have the option for a more fleshed out guided experience for new players if they want more of a sandbox feel - RS3 started adding this with the Path system but certainly doesn't go deep enough into the game. Still not sure if that would be an overall negative or positive for player experience - at the end of the day what style works better for a 20+ year old game with a ton of content: a guided theme park feel or sandbox where you can create your own goals and paths?
RS3 = do daily for instant XP or "the actual content" for 1/20 the XP doing content with 2007 graphics (until you reach 99 where you do NEW version of content). Also on "gambling" I just remembered when jagex dropped a lawsuit where the rsbot jmod cheated constantly for his clan because they'd have to admit rsgold has real-world value and would need to be taxed by the actual government, he got away with tens of thousands of dollars for him and the boys lol. Either sue him for damages = rs items have actual value (which Jagex sells to kids with gambling) or drop the case.
Dude everything you say is really well thought out. But the one thing that annoys me the most is when people create an ironman and bicker about it being hard. Of course it is meant to be challenging. That's why the normal non-ironman mode exists in the first place for peeps who find the iron grinds boring and difficult. Also they ruined the game with mtx completely. Remember a time when an untrim cape used to be legendary. Now 5.6b is just another joke, thanks to mtx.
i agree with a lot of your points including mtx and with the dailys, although i would say when it comes to daily's/weeklies/monthly's ill agree rs3 has a lot maybe too many, but i think if a balance is struck they aren't inherently a bad thing because if someone only has a few hours to play personally imo id rather run around do a few daily's/weeklies and mini games and i think id feel more satisfied with my time spent doing that then i would if i was to just cut trees for 2 hours for example.
also just to add , I get the wanting to efficient mentality, ive done this a lot in my past with WoW for example but ive learned that its a 2 way thing its ultimately your choice but its also how the game implements it, if its a case of if you don't x you will never get y then i disagree with that. but if its a case of if you don't do X you will get Y a bit slower im ok with that to a degree.
The reason you’re finding dailies “fine” is precisely because you think having “only a few hours” to play per day is a low amount of time. An average person with a job and friends/family doesn’t have “a few hours a day” to do dailies. Sometimes they only have 1 hour to play. Sometimes only 30 minutes. Sometimes none at all. Having to spend that doing the same shit every day is turning people away from the game. What if you only had 30 mins to an hour to play per day? Would you enjoy doing the same things every single day and nothing else?
As an OSRS, I've had a thought to try RS3 every now and then because some of the content does look cool (like archeology) but I log in and just feel so overwhelmed. There doesn't seem to be any sort of returning player guide, and the game just feels so vastly different that I end up just logging out and going back to OSRS because it's simple and I know what I'm doing.
No Jagex apologist, the green party hat being chucked on TH after getting wrapping paper the whole month out of nowhere was disgusting(I did win 3 tho). Having a goal in RS3 cuts down the hourly/daily etc. scape imo. It is a 20+ yr old game. Skills have certain ones and the special wildy events only happen 3 times a day. Think people forget to have fun and that involves doing what you want. Not just having the end goal in mind Since day 1 almost 15 years ago the RS wiki and TH-cam has been my go to, don't think that has changed for the game as a whole. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing now. Lastly just because it's an option on TH doesn't make it inherently bad. Wazzy, the RS streamer, turned in 470k wrapping paper on his ironman that doesn't have TH and didn't get a dye. Yes, it's a form of gambling but you're given the chances for any item on TH unlike IRL gambling. Dunno what would be okay for people for Jagex to make money other then membership and Solomon store. Like today I've only seen one person have that Platium Nex armour from a long time ago. 8:55 What? Just like irl you can wear miss matched clothing to be goofy. Not seeing the issue. There's plenty of themed sets. Maybe I got some things wrong here.
Treasure hunter is predatory behavior for financial gain. I understand that people are responsible for their own actions, but it should be illegal to have gambling in a game intended for an audience that includes minors. I don’t understand why anyone can justify exposing minors to such a crippling and destructive vice as gambling. I’m sure they could come up with a less predatory way to make money. I’d rather they sell account boosts than do treasure hunter
@@johnhudson9047 I agree on the fact that limiting minors from using treasure hunter is vital and obviously vital in any game franchise with mtx. Just a few points i'd like to mention. 1. Being able to stop minors from accessing things that should be for adults even for their own safety is a task that at the end of the day falls at the feet of the minors parent's and or guardian. Yes things can be put in place to govern and help prevent it, but just like with everything else in this world, minors can a will find ways around things to gain access to things they are told they should not have. Hand in the cookie jar concept. 2. Obviously game companies aren't keen on limiting the amount of ways they can earn income from mtx, dlc, add-ons, etc, and only would change if whatever governing bodies they answer to told them to. But honestly, is big government in countries like USA, UK, Europe, Etc, really the best ones to implement changes? if they do force changes it will probably be the equivalent of surgeon general's warning on a pack of cigarettes. And if history goes to show governments aren't the best at implementing changes on things they are out of touch with. 60-90 year old politicians running government and trying to regulate technology that becomes more advanced in a fraction of their lifetimes. There's a reason why when congress was going to do something about the "Violent video games" back in the 80's/90's the game companies got together just made the ESRB System themselves, cause they couldn't trust governments to do it right. And can't forget the COPPA situation back around 2020 that while youtube did survive and adapt, was still quite a mess for content creators because youtube corporates were greedy d-bags. Should we give up on the fight against mtx? No absolutely not, but i think we can win more battles by offering criticism constructively and when jagex does do a mtx promotion or deal that people do like, and we give feedback to say that we want more of it. But at the end of the day, the real fight is be responsible for your own finances and well being by voting with your wallet and just being an informed consumer and helping to inform others. And also the Jmods do care and are still people that unfortunately have management they have to answer to and just have to take what they are given by management and make it into something that's middle of the road at best.
@@johnhudson9047 Speed through the game faster than you can rn? Although they aren't doing the best job, rather they fix the flow and broken parts of the game first. I think boosts would be more predatory or worse in effect. Encouraging you to spend to get to the end game fast as possible. At least you can spend in game wealth to buy spins or buy the item out right. The latter doesn't give the dopamine hit but you can still get it if you want. Only other games I've played are mobile games but aren't RS3's MTX very tame compare to other popular games?
@@zeldapro18 I agree that I’d rather them fix other parts of the game. But what I mean is that treasure hunter primarily gives you Xp, cosmetics, and gp. You can already get gp through bonds. You can add more cosmetics to the Solomon store. If Xp is such a big deal, then just sell account boosts or skill boosts. Some people want to play the game but don’t have the time to dump into it. As long as they don’t MTX capes (quest, fire, etc) it could be an alternative to buying tons of keys for xp items. The fact that you bring up the dopamine rush of TH shows that it can simulate gambling well. The dopamine rush or drop is enough to keep you doing it thinking you’ll “win” again. If they are going to have MTX that help you advance your account, I’d prefer they be outright boosts to remove the gambling nature.
There’s nothing wrong with being critical of things that you love. Often times I find myself being most critical of the things I like the most because I want them to be better.
Anyway, I love the content Waydot and I’ll be here for whatever you decide to put out!
your the best drew!
And you can see how people don’t get along these days and all the differing opinions…
The solution is to suck it up, realize it’s all entertainment and either deal with it or move on to something else (until you inevitably find issues with that).
@TheSCPStudio - Never give up in the quest for perfection!
Thanks again man
this is how i play RS with a ironman thrown in as a third lol. then wonder why quests (ive done twice already) make me take breaks lol
A fair and accurate assessment. Looking forward to seeing the group Ironman journey!
dude. the grociery list of tasks is why i still havent come back.
its so annoying getting on, looking at a succesful bank/gearset amd just being instantly put off because there are so many things to do. its endless and has no direction. im glad you think that too.
Its much more pronounced in ironman gameplay.
yeah says someone who has played the game for 14 years, this video seems more targeted to new people. what a pointless comment.

Plenty of good resources out there including our discord, but the wiki will be your best friend!
@@Waydots Thank you, I'll check it out. I already started on the wrong foot. Wanted to make an ironman to avoid the MTX shenanigans but didn't realize until the end that the account setup isn't the same as OSRS....
RIP.
@@SirEnzo371 you might as well just create a new account now before you get too invested lol
What was the issue with cosmetics at the end? I really didn't get it
I'm somewhat new to the RS3 experience - only really learning about the game through recommended videos after watching Hanannie's series.
It sucks that dailies consume your time but a lot of them are fun and make getting to your goal easier. it is true you feel like you cant miss them but if you chose to do something else instead of a daily, why does it matter? thats called opportunity cost, its part of life. go kill a boss or do a quest instead that d&D you do at reset. the game is for you to have fun, not rush to max your skills.
both are things done by choice. its a sandbox mmo, nobody is forcing you into doing it
Solid video.
RS used to not have these, so why feel like you HAVE to do them?
he explained that -- if you don't, you're not playing efficiently, which is not satisfying
@@C-shadow Sounds like a personal thing, satisfaction. People wanna rush, rush, rush. It's a game.
@@zeldapro18 well said. if they care about efficiency why not touch grass? All games are a waste of time theres no such thing as saving time lmao
Hey man I watch both series I personally think rs3 is more for me but I play both! I think they both do different things well. Gl on your new series!
i feel like i can offer a unique insight here, i'm a new player to runescape i have wanted to play the game for years but i stuggled to see where the content was and where the "hook" was but over the last 2 weeks i have been playing both RS3 and OSRS DAILY and as a second monitor game and i have been loving it, i know if i get tired of the microtransactions i can just go over to my ironman account but for the most part i've just been taking the keys given to me by quests and membership and getting on with playing the game, don't get me wrong the slot machine that is treaure hunter isnt a good thing at all but i've ignored it for the most part and been able to enjoy the game in fact i have not even looked into what you can get from the keys aside from xp and some other random junk none of the drops from treasure hunter have had me thinking "damn thats busted" i just go "huh, cool" whenever i get a xp lamp i can toss right into a skill i dont care to grind while i go back to making nature runes in the abyss
i've been having a blast with this game but i can see the issues and perverted nostalgia of the game because world of warcraft was my nostalgic game and i cannot see anything of the game i spent my teenage years playing in WoW and i imagine for alot of people that is what RS3 is for them but from what i have seen of old school its doing the concept of "classic" much better than WoW is where even in WoW classic they are selling cosmetics and other garbage that puts me off even playing that game even though Wrath of the Lich king was my earliest and fondest memories of WoW as a 14 year old gamer at the time
RS3 has alot of good things going for it but also alot of bad and i think alot of people could really get into the game if they tried
I love RuneScape 3! I'm combat 49 with 105 Archaeology! I love it
It's funny to say this, but when (true) maxing and comping I actually felt relieved, because I could start to skip different dailies and other such stuff. So instead of doing like 4 hours of dailies across multiple accounts I can now just do about 1-1,5h of dailies instead.
The only dailies I ever did was when I was getting my blessed flask lol cba
Keen to see GIM stuff.
enjoying watching a noob learn about rs3 ended about episode 4 or 5 for me.
i watched them all cause you make good content.
About the "25% gameplay vs 75% research", I feel like that's an integral part of any game.
(Minecraft, Elden Ring, New World,...)
Basically, any game that has any type of complexity and isn't just plain as boring singular player experience with no replayability.
@@Waydots idk, for me Minecraft was like 90% wiki and 10% gameplay (but I was big on Redstone so...)
Elden Ring was "go for it" until you learn that certain stuff prevents you from doing other stuff, so you start looking stuff up due to FOMO or because the dungeons are complete BS in design and regularly have rewards that aren't worth the hassle.
Hitting once every hour (if by default only Strength was enabled) or hitting consistently but only 100s (Attack enabled) VS consistently hitting average damage and not instantly getting bonked (all 3 enabled)
So from a noob-perspective, the default settings aren't horrible.
@@Waydots fair enough :)
Keep up the content, either game as long as you're enjoying yourself we will be watching.
well it was fun to watch while you played rs3! not interested in osrs but i will watch when you make rs3 vids. :) good luck!
I think the problem is that you are the minority.
Most modern day gamers play with efficiency in mind. And not doing dailies isn't efficient.
I know this is old but agree with tieing real world time to in game events so much.
OS just doesn't have enough updates to keep it fresh for me.
as someone who plays both but a lot more of rs3 over the years i can see this being a issue but also feel like that goes away after a while
i would love to see quest helper in RS3, i have spent most of my quest time pressing spacebar and reading from alt 1, i loved qquesting in OSRS simply because Quest helper basically helps me out xD
think your point about quest helper isn't right, it completely takes away from the experience of the game, on oldschool everything is so sleeper. the client you can use tells you exactly what option to pick and exactly where to go without having to take in anything. in rs3, even if using the wikis text guide, i'm paying way more attention to everything i'm doing, and feel much more involved in the game, taking that unique point of questing away and making it sleeper just turns it into every other games' quests.
That pretty much like aim hacking on fps games. What's the point on just moving your character around and nt doing any of the work? Shit's just boring.
@@necrofear9896 no quest helper is not like hacks in an fps LMFAO.
It just adds the wiki on screen instead of you using a 3rd party website.
I dont even pay attention to daily's or weekly's. Its not that hard to do. Play the game to enjoy it, not max it as fast as possible.
lol imagine. Playing a game to have fun and enjoy it. Not a chore or work. Thought games were to take your mind of life ha ha.
quest helper is biggest thing they need to add for new players even older player still need it
I totally agree that the grocery list kinda feeling is not good
As someone who has played other mmo's, I quite like cosmetics.
@@Waydots yeah the fkn wings are so stupid. we don’t even fly and the fkn wings are always open
Blame it all on Boodef
I love RS3, but the way you went about criticizing the game was immaculate
I guess the other two big points for me (other than the combat system) are 1) daily scape, and
2) the fact that the game encourages you to just skip the content.
Will watch you no matter where you go:)

i totally agree with you on your review as a 15 year player with 100+ days
Oh man.. I mean I have played RuneScape on this account for 75 days over the course of 9 months.. your making me feel like a bit of a degen here lol.
But nah I've played RuneScape since I was 9. Over 17 years ago I created my first account. My actual playtime in total across all my accounts including osrs must be >1000 days.
oh men i loved the rs3 streams, thats sad anyway best of luck!!
honestly sometimes i feel like the people who get "confused" and its "too much" for them when playing rs3 are the same people who get confused by smartphones or switching to a different browser lol. You literally have everything spelled out to you in the pop up tutorials on the screen
Your probably not wrong but for a product to be successful you have to cater to your least intelligent users
@@Waydots i dont even think its intelligence (or its lack) in this case, rather laziness or just.. I have the feeling that they just want rs3 to be osrs
@@MrSuvvri You think new players want rs3 to be osrs? i think your missing the point here.
@@Waydots not the new players but the old ones who say they play on osrs because rs3 is too complicated. Id rather say that osrs is more complicated and (most of all) tedious than rs3 which holds it back much more from new players coming there and actually staying.
I feel like the rs3 combat just doesn't work with the tick system like the osrs combat does.
And yes irons do have MTX, and most importantly mtx affects all who play the game even if they don't partake in it.
wait how do u find people
I don't mind the mtx if it keeps the game live. Maybe no super op xp drops from it and no tradable items would be a good start.
Im glad to see you return to our trusted osrs man
I gave rs3 a chance myself because of your videos, enjoyed my time with some friends, but we decided that we couldnt find any joy in mid or late game rs3 content ourselves
Each of us got an untrimmed slayer cape in about 2 to 4 weeks, some being faster than others, that alone made us realize that it wouldnt bring us any fulfillment
Sunk cost fallacy, the video.
a RS3 version of runelite would be so big!
since you didn't address core gameplay...i assume that it's good?
Core gameplay is decent, however I did address this in a major way in the video when I talked about the tick system, which is quite literally the core gameplay system.
@@Waydots that's just a mechanic. what i mean is pvp, questing, co-op?
i agree with a lot of the gameplay progression issues, but i guess in 20 years ive never been the type to feel like " i have to do my daily's" or understand how other people using mtx effects me lol. I just log on and do what i feel like doing, i go days and days without touching a vis wax machine, or going out of my way to claim daily challenges, or do herby, or whatever lol.
So true there’s a grocery list of stuff
I don’t why I play the game when I hear people talk about it
You have evolved into such a good RS content creator, feels like you'll be up there amongst the big names
Dont tell pvme that the tick system is shit, they will crucify you. (They have extreme stockholm syndrome)
The thing for me is that I want to keep my old account - which is on RS3
RIP I'll miss the series
just started playing rs3 yesterday, fuck i miss quest helper so much
Another big problem is the fact that, as years go by, more content is added to the game without proper planning in the long road.
There's clue addons that will tell you where to go and what to bring, there's markers for whenever you're bossing so that you can set tiles to know where the safe spots are
There's even markers for whenever you're doing your D&Ds like tears of Guthix.
So in my opinion there is no alt-1 addon that I have heard of which is gamebreaking no
I'm not sure how I feel about this. Feels like one old school series did well and everything RS3 is out the window now.
I don't understand the outfit critique. Every MMO with a transmog system has people in crazy outfits. Even OSRS has that to an extent
OSRS>RS3
Is 1800 hours of gameplay not enough for me to give a fair review? I did not once mention that everything rs3 is out the window, I said I'm taking a step back to focus on other things.
Sounds to me more like he’s just enjoying what he’s doing on the osrs series more so of course he’ll want to pursue that.
Dude RS3 is simply not as popular as OSRS. RS3 is dead by comparison.
Time to play something else.
i started new account when mobile released, got 1.2b total exp, many 120s and 150 invention, 3k vindicta kc, account got hacked and eventho all proof sent of key buy etc, didint get it back, still 3/5 game, jagex just 1/5
Its truly mind boggling that RS3 doesn't have a built in quest helper....
Appreciate the comment man, and good luck with your ironman its such an enjoyable way to play the game.
dailies and weeklies kill a game for me.
Hannanie had a pretty stupid reason to hate rs3. Your points are pretty good though
This isn't even mentioning all the horizontal progression that can't be bought (clues, boss logs, achievements, questing, etc.)
As far as the tick system, I understand the opinion, but OSRS has the same tick system and has had explosive popularity and playerbase since it came out - Not really sure I would count that as a negative or critique per-say.
Completely agree about the daily grind. It's so ughhhhhhhhh
You have more hours than I do I think
Not just having the end goal in mind
Since day 1 almost 15 years ago the RS wiki and TH-cam has been my go to, don't think that has changed for the game as a whole.
Rs3 mtx is tame compared to the mobile gaming market sure. In terms of other competing MMO's it is on par and in most cases worst.
Pvp is fun in osrs and Pvm in rs3 😁
