It's Yamaha drums time once again here at Spytunes Recording Studio 🤠 This time the affordable, yet cool sounding Yamaha Stage Custom (Surf Green finish) is up for some test bashing, and once again there's some beautiful Agean Natural Series cymbals to be seen / heard too 👀
🥁 The kit setup in detail:
22" bass drum
14" snare drum
10" / 12" / 16" toms
Yamaha hardware
Agean Cymbals Natural / Natural Z series:
14" HiHat
17" Crash
21" Ride
16" BRX FX Crash
🎤 The kit was recorded with Audio-Technica microphones. Feel free to subscribe to my channel @digitaldrumming and ask any questions in the comments section below!

I've played Yamaha drums off and on for years. When I played another company I always found myself coming back to Yamaha. Because of the sound/voice and reliability of the hardware
Drums: 10/10
Drummer: 20/10
Haha, thank you so much!
@@digitaldrumming Thank YOU! 😃
Having bought a SCB kit (and two addl snares - one birch, one steel), and having played the full kit for a month or so now, I have to say, it is a fantastic kit, independent of the price; and for the price, it's a steal. Cannot overstate how impressed I am with this kit, Yamaha nailed it with this one, it holds its own next to my vintage RCs. Also this playing is excellent and a fantastic demo of what this kit can do - nice!
Thank you very much Willie!
Finally, a high quality recording of Yamaha SC. The kit that I own except that, mine is in Natural.
This is a real demo. Great playing. Not chop chop chop and a whole bunch of crashes. Kit sounds great.
Thank you man!
Great playing. Drums sound great. Great playing.
Just what I needed, more Yamaha Stage Custom Birch content in my life! 😁 Thanks!
😄
Thank u. Absolute pleasure watching u play Ralf. Your studio is stunning. Must b a grt space to create. 🍻
Thank you very much for your kind feedback!
I ended up buying this exact kit. gig it every weekend. you sold it ! i've got an ead10 and used a splitter to put two mics overhead instead of the bass mounted unit. i'm really enjoying it.
Hey Robert, that's awesome to hear. Enjoy the kit & happy drumming! 😃
Stage Custom, the best value drumkit. You made it sound good even with the stock UT heads 🥳
@fartpooboxohyeah8611The kit goes up 50 bucks each year. Holiday time 2022 they were $699.00 ( marked down 100 beans ) not thrilled with the tuning of this kit. I dig the kit though.
What does the "UT" in the UT Remo head stand for?
I love your chops man! smooth, clear, controlled, creative!
Thank you Marsh!
The Stage Custom since its inception has gotten some competition, but it's still the best kit in its price range. So much so you can't call it an entry level kit.....just an increbile value kit. Never heard of Agean, but I'm loving them. His touch, really shows those off as well. Well done.
Thank you so much Phil! There’s more Agean demo & performance videos on the channel if you’re interested. Great company, great cymbals, all handmade in turkey. Kind regards!
@@digitaldrumming Yeah, I've been checking them out. A bit confused on the weights though, so I left a question on one of the other videos. Will pick up a set once I get that sorted out. Thanks for introducing them to the market....our styles are similar, and that helps a lot. You really showed these off nicely.
@@phillamoore157 I think fastest will be to get in touch directly through www.ageancymbals.com 🥁
Awesome drumming dude 👍
Yamaha SC has been the best value for money for years!!!
The new colors they came up with this year are great
Thanks man!
Just amazing this kit can complete with the best out there
wow, you guys nailed it with the sound, the mix and tuning of the drum is flawless, awesome job
Thanks pal!
The room mic mix was stunning!
Yeah, they are a tremendous part of the all channels/complete drum sound!
Wie immer mega Sound und der Ralf ist halt einfach ein ultrageiler Drummer! 🥁👍🏼LG
Ich danke dir mein Lieber! ✌️
@@digitaldrumming Jederzeit! 😜🥁👍🏼
Thank you! The playing and sound of this stage custom kit is immeasurable for the money. The new colors are an added delight and the Laquer finish is quality in appearance and enhancements. Robert Shen from Remo has interesting information concerning the UT heads which have been scrutinized for years. Many drum brand's still come new with these heads. Ironically enough tuned properly, their better than many new heads on the shelf. I bought a Remo coated Ambassador for my 22" birch drum..put it on the batter side, and ended up putting it on the resonance side because it sounded glassy to me. The Remo UT bass stock head with the muffling ring makes my birch shells sing. It's owner preference appearently.
That ride cymbal looks like it is extremely good feeling to play, and sounds great!
It is! 😄 you can find quite a lot more Agean cymbals sound demos (including Natural Series from this video) on my channel if you like. Kind regards!
what a proffesional sound and performance !! I got my 22' kick drumkit version recently and I loved it !!!! Greetings from Buenos Aires , Argentina
Thank you very much, enjoy the kit & greetings back to Argentina!
Gotta love it when pretty drums sound sooooo good. Ralf is a MASTER!!!
Thank you so much Terry! 😃
Hey Ralf! Your Tom sounds are always great to my ear. and this video got me to wondering about your tuning approach on the toms... Batter and Resonant to same pitch or Resonant higher or?...@@digitaldrumming
@@terrywinkle6010 Thanks Terry, my buddy Thomas is actually doing drum tuning at the studio for me (I'm just too impatient most of the time & he does a great job).
Yes it's basically same pitch for both heads, kind regards!
Thank you sir. That definitely works well under the mics!@@digitaldrumming
Fantastic drumming and a beautiful kit!! Great vid, thanks!!
Thank you Marc!
Ralf is the GOAT !!!
We all know stage customs sound good but when played by this monster, the sound twice as good
Thank you so much Randy!
Great performance with great drums. I just had my white ”Stage Costum Hip” Yamaha is doing it. 😊
Thanks man & happy drumming with the SC hip!
This recording proves that this kit can sound as good as any professionnal drum kit at only 1/4 price. Even with cheap UT heads!
@@jettsom a little of an exaggeration. It sounds great, and way above it's price point. It can even be manipulated in a studio to sound even better with the correct sound engineer. However, a full professional kit would still greatly surpass the stage custom. It's a great intermediate kit but a professional would still be better off with investing in a grade above.
Ordered mine, getting it in 6 days...in love with this color! 😍
Perfect, enjoy & happy drumming!
Awesome demo
@@jm_lb thank you Juan! ✌️
Nice playing ... Very tasty! Just posted an opening of this kit as well... Love the Surf Green.
Fantastic video quality, and even better drumming! Great work man.
Thanks Gideon!
Insane player 🔥🔥💪
Kit is perfect 🤩
Thank you CJ!
AMAZING playing and such a great kit.
Thank you Joan!
Nice kit, beautiful sound.
If I were a new or intermediate drummer I would for sure be playing Yamaha! They have the best sounding and quality beginner and intermediate kits out there. Of course, their high-end stuff is great too, all the major brands have great high-end kits, but Yamaha definitely has the lower end market in the bag!!!
But don't forget about the Sonor AQX series! I've actually just done a demo with a small kit configuration:
th-cam.com/video/Qznbxkz4504/w-d-xo.html
But build quality and sound have been extraordinarily nice considering the price. Kind regards!
Amazing groove drumming! Thinking about getting this kit for my local bar as a house kit.
Thank you Steven!
Yamaha is the only brand with an economic line and sounds excellent as a top line.
Amazing sound !
Amazing touch, comme d'habitude!!
Merci Stephan!
I'm mainly a Pearl player when it comes to my drums, percussion, and hardware. But I got to give it Yamaha, this is easily the best drum kit you can buy for under $1,000. It'd be a great investment for a young player or to use as a gigging work horse kit.
Which pearl are better ? Also have sonor and these Yamaha’s sound better except for my noble and Cooley . Good enough here !!
I would only change the snare hoops for a couple of good die cast ones. That's all. Excellent drums for a very good price.
Great playing..wow
Thank you Ken! ✌️
Lovely playing man 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Thanks man!
Great demo!
Thank you!
Amazing playing mate
Thanks man!
WHAT!!!??? Ralph 😊 I kind of though you only played Sonar. Yamaha and Sonar are some of the best in the world. Best entry kits to me are the Stage Custom, Armory Suite, and Superstar Classics. Those look like stock heads and the whole kit sounds INCREDIBLE! The snare is unreal and Yamaha BD rule #1
j'adore le son
what a great drummer man..good stuff
Thank you man!
Ralf is my guy!!! Amazing drummer!
Thanks man! 😃
Damn, it sounds pretty good. Hard to justify a $5000 US kit.
Magnificence!
Thank you very much!
Hey Ralf - Ive watched every one of your demo's on the drum-tec channel! As someone who's tried every major electronic drum set....
1) Which brand / kit do you think most closely approximates the acoustic experience - at any price.
2) Which brand / kit best approximates the acoustic experience for a $1500 ballpark budget?
Think hi-hat control, ride & snare expressiveness etc - dynamics, response, triggering, feel etc - the stuff that doesn't appear on a spec sheet! Which brand does it best?
Danke dir Benni!
I was sold on this kit and then a good deal on a Tama imperialstar… Yamaha drums will one day be mine 😂
😄
@@digitaldrumming are you partnered with Sonor? I think no expenses held I live the Sonor sound… your demos sound especially killer on those
@@Ben-ic1ve thanks Ben! Yes indeed I’m a „sonor guy“, but I do some other acoustic drum brands demos every once in a while too (like Yamaha, drumcraft a.o,). Thank you for the kind feedback!
Had some I thought they were junk.
They must of been lower end.
Cause these sound Good.
Stunning finish, killer drummer, awesome cymbals, great demo… lousy snare. But for the money, best kit under $800 ever created! Good job Yamaha
Thanks Markus!
I’m impressed but is that really the sound or has it been engineered !
Wow when did Ralf get with Yamaha? Awesome so deserving !!!!
Thank you Isaac! I’m still a „Sonor guy“ though 😄 just doing some content work for different brands every now & then. Kind regards!
Dude has some tasty ass chops
Thank you dude! 😁
@@digitaldrumming absolutely brother. Joy to watch. Drums sound amazing.
My question will be silly but I want to ask you, what's that shoes you wearing? Looks like perfect drumming sneakers. I need something like that.
Not silly at all! 😄 I wear VANS all the time, to me those are what the converse chucks were in the 80s/90s ✌️ kind regards!
@@digitaldrumming Thanks a lot. I will designate that as my next target.
Great sound my friend! I found you by researching Warm Audio so I'm more curious if you're still using the 412 & 3124 on this demo? I've been using just the Studio Live 32s for 3-4 yrs and love it but am thinking about diving into some analog. You can check out some of my videos to hear the sound I'm getting now and let me know if you think the 412 would help alot. Thanx and keep it up!
Thank you Jeff, yes I’m using the wa-412 alongside the api 3124v, a-designs pacifica and a little lunchbox with 2 more wa-12, tritonaudio d10 and a Midas. Kind regards!
So, I won’t sound this good bc I’m far below Mr. Schumacher’s super saiyan of drumming level, but I’m going for either this kit or a Sonor AQ2 bop. Which one would you recommend for an intermediate level drummer? Any other kit I should consider? (Also, everyone: check his playing different nice kits but always Agean cymbals. You won’t find any better than those.)
Man thank you so much! I'd go for AQ2 honestly, we just had one of their beautiful little (Safari/Bop?) kits at the Agean Cymbals booth during UK drum show and it sounded so nice & punchy with only very little tuning work.
Also the even more affordable AQX line sounds amazing in my opinion:
th-cam.com/video/Qznbxkz4504/w-d-xo.html
I liked the AQ2 even more, also they come in beautiful finishes. And you are so right about the Ageans! They are absolutely gorgeous and very unique in sound/feel/looks (traditionally handmade in Turkey without any machines). Really awesome!
Kind regards!
This is drum porn. The sound, video quality and playing are just incredible.
😄 thanks Manu!
Brilliant! Check out what people like Dave Weckl or Tommy Igoe have to say about this kit!
Thanks Gianpaolo!
@@digitaldrumming My pleasure, Sir!
Ralf, What head heads do you have in the drums? All of them? Thank you
Hey Hayden, I used the stock heads that came with the kit actually. Kind regards!
What cymbals are you playing in this video please? Thanks
Hey Jared, it's the Agean Natural Series:
ageancymbals.com/product-category/natural-series
You'll find various sound demos of the different Agean Cymbals lines on my channel if you're interested. All of them are handmade in Turkey and sound great!
And if - by any chance - you pass the Rhein-Main Frankfurt area in Germany, this would be the place to go to:
www.ageancymbals.de
Kind regards!
@@digitaldrumming thanks very much!
@@digitaldrummingwould you say they are similar to Zildjian K series (Dark?) looking for a lower volume (not too low volume) for a smaller church building that isn’t very sound insulated building.
Does anyone know how his snare is not buzzing? I have the exact same drum set as this and can't get my snare wires to not buzz? The only way I've found is to use some dampening. Thanks
that snare belt isn’t tightened/fastened
Woow how do you get that roomsound so big?
And nice playing as always :-)
Thank you Paul! I have the stereo room mics (Warm Audio WA-87) mounted very high up the opposite wall of the drumkit in my recording room . With a little additional tweaking, this works great for drums. Kind regards!
@@digitaldrumming Thanks a lot Ralf!
Ralph do you give lessons?!?! I’ll fly to Germany for a beer and a lesson, seriously
Haha, sounds great (especially the beer!). Hit me up through www.ralfschumacher.eu (contact form) and we’ll see what we can do. Kind regards!
what are the sizes of that room?
Is that the surf green?
Looks better in this video
Yes it is!
@@Nevernow721 It’s all about lighting 😃
But I think tom mic 1 is off. Sounds like we`re hearing tom 1 from the other mic`s, unfortunately:)
Hm, no man actually it's all there, I can hear it also. So did the Yamaha guys, and I there's the tom1 channel in Logic too 😁
Maybe the signal is a little lower than tom2 (?) You can hear tom1 attack/punch nicely in the intro fill with snare wires on. Kind regards!
@@digitaldrumming Yeah the volume does sound a little bit low.
I think what you mean with lower volume is the dynamic playing of his fills. The 10" seem to be lower in the mix because he is dyncamicly play from soft to hard 10-14. You can hear in the accents that the 10" is the same volume than the other toms. I love his dynamics tho. It gives the rolls more "life" :)
Ok, I was wrong when I`m listening to it now. However. I would have the tom-mics a bit closer (yours seems fairly far apart) the low impact hits almost disappears in the mix. Anyhow, was just trying to help out when I thought a mic was off:) Great channel, btw:)
I had the same sound with tom 1 when recording the stage custom. When we started looking for the cause, we discovered that we had to move Tom1 a little further on the arm. Tom 1 suddenly gave much more volume and sustain, especially when playing softer. He was able to resonate better just by shifting on the arm. Maybe that was the case in this case :-) Great Kit by the way! And I always love the dynamics of your playing Ralf!
I had no idea The Quartering could rip so much on the drums.
Yeah... weight, beard, nose, hair & glasses apart it's a really close call dude 😆
stock heads?
Absolutely! 😃
Cheap drum kit Sounds like Pro 😮
Great drummer who is this cat?
Thanks man, it‘s me 😄 www.ralfschumacher.eu
Those are the stock heads... I suck at tuning
I'm actually a guitarist who sings and plays most instruments, though I have played live/ paying gigs as a drummer in a band.. imho, skip this kit if you can afford better. Bought a Yamaha Stage Custom kit to play live and for my studio about 5 years ago. First thing I did was get rid of the snare drum and was very happy that I did. Replaced it with the DW performance series. The small tom sounds as bad as the snare drum, and the big Tom sounds almost as bad. The floor tom sounds ok for now. And the kick drum sounds really good. Do yourself a favor, and just get a good kit at the get-go.
Hey Donald, even a starter level kit like the Stage Custom can sound very nice and you can get professional, useable results as you can hear in the demo. It's all about tuning, drum heads, (muffling), room acoustics and lastly: the player himself. I agree, that one of the weakest components with very affordable kits is the snare drum though. Kind regards!
then why new RC? (kidding)
RC? 🤔
China
Made in china?
Hi...are those heads stock?
Thanks
Yes 😃
