Dave Weckl demonstrated this kit a few years ago. The video was intended as a Sabian promo. The evolution package I think. He then plugged the stage custom kit and Dave stated how blown away with how great the drums sounded. Even with these entery heads on, they sound fantastic. I can only imagine what they would sound like with greater heads.
Ordered the exact same one, I’m out most weekends performing. Got new Evans batter and resonant heads, match with my brass snare and it’s a perfect gigging kit. I just can’t justify spend £3000 on drums. If you have good drums with great heads and shure microphones going through a top notch p.a system your sorted. Great review well done
I learned on a Yamaha kit my grade school had, back in 1995. It is still my favorite kit I have ever played. I should have went back later and bought it off of them. Since then, I have owned two Tamas, and two DDrums, all of which I still have, and played countless house kits on stage and in studios. But, that Yamaha still stands out. I'm going to have to get me one of these. Love the blue/black burst, too.
I love these drums.. I've used them live, and in the studio.. They really are a great value for the the money.. I've had mine since 2015, and have no desire to part with them. I prefer Remo P4's for the rack toms, and a P3 black dot for the bass drum.. Coated P4 for the snare.. However remo CS black dots, and coated ambassadors work very well with these drums.. YAMAHA DOES NOT MAKE JUNK.. The stage custom birch series is totally pro for the money.👍🏻😁
I've played Stage Customs since 2003, I must say my new SC Deep blue fades are the best yet. We play 50 shows a year & so many different venues, the can be solidly tuned to a venue quickly.i use all 7 series hardware and the new FP9d single and double pedals.
Hello. Please help me out here: I can get the stage custom 5 piece for about the same price of a stage custom bass drum and a tour custom snare (so a 2 piece). What would you do. Is the tour custom snare really that much better?
Replace the heads and it's a kit for life. On the toms I use emperor coated batter and coated ambassadors reso. I have a PS3 on kick batter and coated Ambassador again on reso. Sounds like a top end kit.
That’s mine heads too but I use ambassador clear on the resos. Shocked that the snare doesn’t have a lot of ring with the ambassador coated. Just one moon gel and walla
Hey guys, is the detuning of the snare such a big issue? I am a beginner drummer and looking for a good drumset with great value for money. Thanks. Sven
Even if it does a little you can turn the lugs as your playing . Or before next song . Sometimes guys make a big deal out of minor things .I have the kit it's fantastic best kit in the $800 price range
I didn’t have any tuning issues with my ‘matching’ Stage Custom snare, but my 14x6.5 steel (new model) was a nightmare.. That was until I ordered some tight screw tension rods Just used 3 nearest my playing side And I’ve not touched the tuning of that drum for well over 10 gigs & some rehearsals too (around 3 or 4) So there’s always an option for this kind of thing Mine was tight screw tension rods (no I don’t work for the company! 😂) They made a troublesome snare an absolute joy to play 👍
Not better, and definitely not cheaper. 5pc Armory is $999 at Sweetwater, 5pc Stage Custom is $799. Yamaha hardware is top notch, bombproof. Yammie YESS mounts are the best tom mounts on the market. Friend returned an Armory with 4 out of 6 shells out of round, had bad bearing edges.
With the right heads I’ve personally seen this kit sound like a pro kit
What heads should i use on them
@@gewoonandy8755 remo pinstripes or evans g2s and Aquarian super kick 2 on the kick drum 👌🏼

Remo emperor and any kick head works and an ambassador on the snare. I’ve tried oentripe and it killed the kitn
Great video! Stage Custom is a timeless classic!

The best Set in this prize category.

Great drumst! Played a bass drum without muffling and it had the perfect blend of attack and boom.

I got a stage custom months ago.its great
Great video, sound and playing. As always🤸
Glad you enjoyed it
I can't wait to get my set in a few days coming in the mail!

Nice video and I agree Yamaha SC & RC series are really great drums!

I have the birch kit it's fantastic.
Is this medium or low tuning? I'm asking because low tuning of Tama Starclassic Maple 2023 from your demo video sounds higher than this.
Great video. What about the rack toms and floor tom, no detuning problem? Cheers from SLovenia.
Hi. Would you re-review the recently expanded line of Yamaha Tour Custom?
Sounds good for an STD, but does it burn?
I’m getting this exact drum set as I see this video 😅!
Wow no dampening or rings on the Toms? So I have to tune them high?
Got my Stage Custom Pro second-hand 25 years ago. Done many Gigs. Full bodied kit. Buy one... Joolz. UK. 🙂

Throw some Evans g2 heads on top and Evans g2 clear on the reso's and it will sound great.
Interesting…The 16” floor Tom now has 8 lugs ?

Was this a high tuning or low?
Medium
👍👍👍
the new mapex armory series seem to be better than stage customs. both in terms of shell construction and hardware. also they're much cheaper.
