I'm not sure if my steam hasn't updated it for me yet but according to my steal faith subscription SFO hasn't updated since the fifth of november for me.

imo, that moment when kroq-gar stopped the gallows giant from torching mazdamundi by shooting it with his hand of the gods (24:10) is both the most movie-like and the most epic scene of this entire video
After downloading SFO and playing it for a while I literally can't even play the game vanilla anymore. It makes the game SO much more complicated and interesting. And not to mention more challenging in nice ways. I honestly recommend anyone who enjoys playing this game to try SFO it's a top-quality mod for sure. One of the best out there
i havent played sfo very much to be fair but im so used to playing radious in TW1 and now TW2 i cant stand the faster battle pace of vanilla or SFO anymore

Man its SO nice to hear a TH-camr pronouncing the umlaut in Boegenhafen correctly. (The alternate method of spelling the umlaut which is the letter with the two dots over it, is Boegenhafen. Bc not everyone has the umlaut on their keyboard.) The way indypride says it is indeed correct, it's exactly how you pronounce it.

I absolutely love the gallows giant, I wish noctilus had it as his mount. Because I use a recruitable ror mod I put a gallows giant in all my campaign armies right in the center. I put him in melee in the biggest infantry blob I see and he wrecks face. He's also good to ranged attack archers that get to close. I've seen his ranged attack kill 20-30 models in 1 shot in radiois

Rather warhammer world than ww1? Have you read what dark elves, chaos demons, chaos dwarves and nurgle does to you? When getting mangled by orcs or beheading by beastmen is your best option then shits pretty bad
Legit dying to orcs is infinitely better than being in the trenches of the Great War, people would *literally* drown in their own blood piss and shit
most Warhammer deaths are pretty quick honestly. the bad end of Warhammer deaths are undoubtedly worse. flayed alive by Dark Elves, tortured for eternity by Slaanesh, Brazen Bulled by Chaos Dwarfs and the like. but those are "Relatively" rare. much more common were the deaths on the front lines of WW1, deaths in the millions, wallowing in mud and excrement and gore for months on end in the most miserable of conditions. only to drown in poison gas, blown apart by artillery, or shot to pieces by machine gun fire. campaigns like Verdun and years long trench warfare dont exist on the same scale really in Warhammer
Having researched WW1 a lot, I'd rather take my chances in the Warhammer world to be honest. Your fate could be worse in Warhammer, but your day to day life during campaigns would usually be better in Warhammer and your death would likely be similarly quick anyway. WW1 was a near constant nightmare.
@@milkandcookiesTW Warhammer doesn't have the stalemates that WW I was defined with. With the Winds, there's always a way to breach a defensive line definitively, and Chaos is always on a clock.
Texan 214 A lot of the worlds worst wars are the result of firepower tech outrunning support tech, when your medicine is still in colonial times meanwhile your using fucking planes it ends up being a hellish affair, same thing happened with the American civil war and arguably the Vietnamese proxy war on the side of the Viet Cong

I don´t know why but I always find it easier to attack than defend against the AI, even if I don´t bring siege equipment. I usually just line up the archers with shields in front and watch stuff melt on the walls.
Also in the above battle there were instances where Mazda should have aoe´d and didn´t, plus the fact that the defenders were throwing one unit in at a time to get killed.

I kinda feel like SFO is just making everything OP. Kinda feels like a stroy strait out of Warhammer lore where absolutely OP creatures take on absolutely OP wizards and shit, which from a immersive stand point is great!
But it doesn't make for very balanced gameplay

The ö in Bögenhafen is called a o umlaut and it changed the o sound to a ooh sound so doesn’t really matter but i think it’s supposed to be pronounced boogenhafen. Nice to use the little bit of German I remember from high school lol
The issue with the Gallows Giant is that it has only very little ammo which isn't exactly what you want on a unit that is a walking artillery piece for the most part...

I'm conflicted, though. Every giant siege replay, the commentator mentions that bunching up their units at the walls would make a boring replay, and I agree, yet I can't help but feel like the defenders are obligated to play like garbage until the very end. Several times in the replay you see the defenders leaving units out of the fight taking heavy ranged fire simply because the defenders aren't allowed to move them up and take the fight to the enemy, they have to wait for the fight to come to their designated area. It's horrible.
The gallows giant was the best example of this. In the early game it was just punishing saurus units that couldn't fight back. Saurus spears sat and got roasted by a target they should have been ruining. Whenever I notice this I want to just skip to the end and check if, yep, the defenders lost again. I get that a siege that holds or falls at the walls is less fun, but the attackers just have a crazy advantage in local force superiority in the entire match. Something needs to change.
tons of the big siege battles ive done have been super close though, and defenders have won lots of them. the only rule for defenders is use the whole map and layer your defense, because it makes no sense to play a custom map and just have a huge blob fest at the walls, using none of the actual gameplay area deeper inside the city. that doesnt mean people arent allowed to call up reinforcements or engage if they're being shot, the saurus spears thing was likely a micro mistake, they happen all the time in big battles like these. not sure what you would propose to "fix the issue", but i dont think these games are as lopsided towards attackers as you're suggesting. quite a few of the most popular siege battles have defenders winning
I have to agree, the excuse that 'it makes no sense to play a custom map and just have a huge blob fest at the walls' is the most idiotic statement i've ever heard. A blob fest for one wouldn't occur due to vortex spells, and spells in general really, all that's happening is the defenders losing their advantage of having a giant wall between both armies, and instead fighting what is basically a open field battle, with a few choke-points which they cant hold due to the attackers artillery.
@@dawaaagh7496 vortexes do absolutely nothing to single entity monsters and cannot be used on walls, so vortexes and spells do very little to discourage blobbing with monsters in defense of your gates and at the initial points of combat. Defenders also have artillery and spells, so the idea that they cant hold chokepoints doesnt hold much weight. Of course they can, They can and do all the time, as evidenced by a bunch of my siege battles where defenders win. it makes no sense to play on a huge, gorgeously designed custom map if the battle is decided in the first 5 minutes at the walls and gates of the city, which is EXACTLY what would happen often if defenders didnt have to layer their defense. If thats how you prefer to play, no issue whatsoever, but you might as well play vanilla maps because you're not taking advantage of what makes custom maps unique.
I've been doing custom map and vanilla map multiplayer sieges for Warhammer since 2016, I know very well how they go down and play out when there's no rule set and its not fun to play and its not fun to watch. Defenders win in these custom map siege battles frequently even when they have to layer the defense, so I'm not really sure what the problem is? It is NOT more enjoyable to watch a monster mash at the front gate decide the battle than to actually use the entirety of the city with flanking and ambushes and actual micromanagement. If you watch more of those most viewed Siege battles you'll see why people play that way, it makes for much more enjoyable and intense battles when the whole city is being used.
milkandcookiesTW Well no actually I don't believe it is fun to watch overall, wall battles are insanely fun to watch, and was the entire point of med2 sieges, the battles for the walls were immense and the losses on either side were incredible, as well as watching the intense fighting up close. However saying that defenders can use artillery as a argument to negate the fact the attackers art is 10x more effective and useful is silly, as if you've put very little thought into it. For the defenders art to work in a layered defense they would have to have it all the way at the back, other wise it'll get destroyed very early in the battle, due to the layered defense not allowing a huge blob up at the walls stopping the enemy from charging down the defenders art. In that sense if the art is at the back, which it will be, to keep it safe, they won't be able to stop the attackers art due to the range, as well as the fact it's queen bess, while the attackers can Bombard these little choke points and destroy the defenders before their lines even get into combat. Furthermore, if you blob up the walls, your art and gateway is at a huge disadvantage, it's as if in your head you're imagining the blob to be the majority of the defenders infantry on the walls, which will just get ripped apart from the attackers art, what I'm saying is, layered defense is idiotic in the sense that having 1 unit here and here will not work, which this replay clearly shows. Instead of layered, try doing it honeycomb style, so there's large masses in choke points rather then the odd unit which is shown here. It makes the battles much more valid as the defenders are using their advantage properly rather then hoping 1 unit will trade well against a attack from a unit which can counter the choke point defenders, such as depth guard with halberd so being used against the tree kin with after a bombardment from the attackers making the choke point a cake work due to the low levels of defenders at that one point. It is 10x more enjoyable watching a realistic warhammer siege as described in lore, then one for cinematic purposes, since the title doesn't state it's a cinematic battle. Thanks for the response though, although it came off as quite aggressive just because I have criticism over the rule of layered defense.

I feel like we're having two different discussions though, you seem to be talking about this battle specifically, I'm talking about siege defenses in general. Yes whichever faction has a Queen Bess on their side is going to have the artillery advantage, the Vampire Coast are an artillery faction and thats what theyre designed to be good with. The Lizardmen are certainly not an artillery faction and as such will obviously be outclassed in that regard. I'm not saying the defenders played this battle correctly, or that they used the chokepoints or layered their defense well, but thats on them. Literally the only rule is, keep some reserves, dont just commit your entire army to the walls and gate. Thats it. There are lots of good examples of using reserves and utilizing portions of the city that made for much more exciting fights that couldnt have happened if it was just a fight for the walls. I had a cavalry ambush in the Siege of Talabheim video thats a perfect demonstration.
I feel like if you watch more of the big siege battles you will see the benefits of why utilizing the entire map is worth it and can make for more exciting battles. I get that you prefer the wall fights and thats cool, but your description of why you like them isnt unique to wall fights. "immense and the losses on either side were incredible, as well as watching the intense fighting up close" can be used to describe a fight anywhere in the city, and if we take the time to play a custom siege map, we want to use the map. Not just 20% of it

K on your keyboard gets rid of the HUD, N zooms in, and debug camera in your preferences script allows you to get angles that you wouldnt normally be able to get with the default camera

it will be corrupted now unfortunately. every new patch corrupts old replays, so it would basically be unwatchable at this point

Thats why in campaign she cant have Norscans in her army. But there are still a lot of them in Sartosa.

it doesnt do anywhere near that much damage in practice generally speaking, but it can still shred stuff for sure. thats its theoretical max damage output over a 10 second period

with artillery those numbers are pretty irrelevant honestly. but no that Missile Damage number is spread out and based on a 10 second period. its never going to do 8100 damage to a unit in 10 seconds though

yeah they still have their wits to an extent. how much they can exercise them, and to what extent they can actually use stuff like money, is probably pretty open for debate lol. even the fact that they are mindless automatons is a little questionable from a lore standpoint, given everything that was laid out by how Vampire Counts and Nagash control their Undead

You have to leave out the "r" after the ö, otherwise the pronunciation is fine :) Bogen means bow or curve btw.
'Bogenhafen' but let's pronounce it 'Burgenhafen' has the same energy as 'I know it says Birmingham but maybe it is pronounced like Baltingham, that the same right?' Bogen and Burgen are two very different things. 'Burger-something' is also a very common Germanoligism so it is easy for foreigners to mistake any word that start with B- for 'burger' if they are not paying attention. It might also be that both Burgerhafen and Bogenhafen exist in the Warhammer world, but pronouncing Bogenhafen like 'Burgerhafen' is just plain wrong; other languages tend to not take as much liberties with pronunciation of the Roman Alphabet as the English (famous for their total anarchy in spelling&pronunciation) does.
I feel that Fellheart would have raped face if he were on foot in this fight. No getting sniped, just obliterating people in the push alongside of depth guard.
The terradons and skinks were rubbish and most of the saurus got bombed into oblivion - not a great use of those units at all.
