- The Camshaft Position Sensor is very important for your engine to run smoothly. Diagnostics show up as the OBD code P0342. Bad camshaft position sensor can cause your engine to have a rough idle, startup poorly, have profoundly bad effects on acceleration.

Hey i have simular problems , there is litlee shaking on red light in traffic and i cant start car imidetly it always start from second time , Diagnostic show me rich system fuel and camshaft sensor. Should that be a problem? Regards

The BTS engine has two of these sensors connected to the camshaft. So I would like to know, do I change both sensors or just one?

Hi mate, I have EPC light on only when i turn AC on...sure the engine goes bad and lose power while EPC light on... ( VW polo 2001, 1.4 engine)... What should i do?
Anyone know how to stop the awful oil leak on these? Mine has always got a bad idle and has had misfiring coil packs too

fix them as more likely reason why it fails if not connected properly due to damaged wires or connector
I have both codes on my polo as you in this video, did it fix the P0172 also if not what is the possible fix, I will try fixing P0341 with new sensor.
I dont feel any problems while driving for now everything seems fine, it only suffers a bit on startup, and few days ago 1-2 mins after a cold startup I got temperature warning light on but somehow fixed itself by me turning the engine off and on again.

it did fix the problem for me. You can try and unplug the sensor and try and drive with no sensor, see if anything changes?

did you replace it with oem or a eurocarpart compatable, I've got the same issue just now, had timing chain done around 2k ago,eml was on prior does anyone know how to test actual sensor is it resistance, continuity.... that way we could save time and money
Yes I bought from ECP. It was a Bougicord branded part which i believe was oem as they scratched out what looked like a vw logo on it. Anyway it worked fine. You could unplug it, drive it and if nothing changes its probably is the sensor?

Is there a way to know if the old sensor is broke? Like before I order a new one I want to know that it is that sensor that is causing my cars problems. Like it won’t accelerate past a certain point until I switch gears. The revs go up and down and it cuts off a lot especially while in traffic etc

Jai une polo 5 60ch 1.0 mpi et en changeant les bougies j'ai cassé le capteur et le connecteur qui se trouve juste derrière le bouchon d'huile.. Impossible de savoir de quel capteur il s'agit (pression d'huile... Arbre à came.. Mph) je voudrais savoir si vous avez des lines pour changer cela et me dire quel est ce capteur (2pole)... Vraiment merci pour votre aide...

My partners polo is doing the same thing and brings on the traction control light? Do you have to clear the fault codes after changing the sensor as well?

I know this video was from 4 years ago but on the off chance you see this message, did changing the sensor actually fix the problem? I've been doing research on this engine and it seems a common problem with this fault code is a problem with the timing chain, usually it stretches and jumps. I've bought exactly the same car as my first car and have the same fault code. I've recently changed the sensor following this video and am praying this fixes it. If not then it will most likely be a timing fault which costs a lot to fix. I'd like to know if you also had a timing issue.

Sorry, cant help you with that.....im not familiar with polo engines before 2002. The 6n engine is somewhat different to late models

i got a polo 2004 9n is thit the same becouse i have a larger motor
My Polo is giving me same fault code 16272 "Camshaft position sensor (G40) signal to high" so I just replaced the Cam sensor but the fault is still there. Also noticed that when the AC is on the car shuts down...... Can anyone suggest me anything else? By the way the new sensor is OEM.
hmm, could be a timing issue. The ac doesnt seem connected, if you can visually see the ac compressor in the engine bay, you should have someone turn ac on when the car is running and watch it to see if it has ceased.

Buongiorno, vorrei un informazione posseggo una pegeout 208 benzina e gpl casa madre, mi è capitato che dopo aver trascorso circa 150km a GPL mi sono fermato per delle commissioni e dopo circa un ora sono ripartito ma l'auto non commuta a GPL , in pratica la lucina del segnalino rimane rossa fissa e nel quadro mi è comparsa la spia motore e rimane accesa, ho provato a vedere inserendo ODB mi da questo errore, ho provato a toglierlo ma dopo poco mi ricompare e comunque non funziona il gpl, errore P0342 mi dice che dovrebbe essere il sensore albero a camme vorrei provare a pulirlo o a sostituirlo ma non so dove si trova, se ti invio una foto puoi indicarmi dove si trova, se quello è il problema?

Hi, could this cause my engine to misfire as im getting the P0342 reading and also the P0303 reading that is misfire in 3rd cylinder, Could the misfire stop if the camshaft position sensor gets fixed?
misfiring as in you are completely down to 2 cylinders?
Messed Up Mechanic no, it intermittently does it and I haven't had the chance to get a compression test on it yet. I just thought maybe if I replace the sensor then the misfire will not occur. The misfire usually occurs from stand still going into first after a few miles of driving but it's never consistent
If it is intermittent it may be the sensor. I would try and unplug the electrical connector for the sensor and drive it. If problem persists all the time it would likely be the sensor
My car there is a triang light in desh board so no rev count and accalarater

Hi dont know if you can help but have a hiccuping issue with my 02 polo changed coil packs and plugs cleaned map sensor had pressure tests done used a fuel cleaner and had injectors checked code p0172 came up prior to doing all this and all to no avail. Any ideas as to what to try next? Could it be the coolant or mad sensor but no codes showing on vag machine now am at a loss and so is the garage I went to told me to drive it into the ground and get a new car cheeky sods
can you explain a little bit what hiccuping means?
@@messedupmechanic3607 basically it stutters under load its like it has less power under acceleration so to try to compensate and sort of hiccups difficult to explain but like a momentary loss of power then picks back up again like I said have cleaned lots of sensors replaced coil and spark plugs exhaust seems ok so at a dead end.

sounds like you changed alot of parts. When it was in the garage did they check timing? I know these polos sometimes have a problem with timing chain slack, but the problem with that is its expensive to fix. It is a known problem with this era polo
@@messedupmechanic3607 yeah they checked the timing and all ok did take it to a gy who did a software update on the ecu and running better but still has a slight hesitation when putting foot down dont think I'll solve this mystery lol
Yes these cars are getting old now. If you can live with it its probably best. Maybe change the fuel filter on the next service.
