4:25 I love this line so much. It alludes to so much. It tells us that Sidious always intended to start the Clone Wars with Maul. It lets us know that Sidious considered Maul his first Vader.

Maul would of met the same fate once Sidious met Anakin. Seducing and grooming the chosen one was just too appealing to pass up, to have the ultimate power on his side

He was Sidious' original apprentice... He knew about Sidious' entire plan from beginning to end, he just didn't know he was a replaceable peice of it... Maul thought it was supposed to be him & Sidious all the way to the end, but the moment Maul made 1 mistake, he was replaced
His legs being built is literally one of my favorite scenes in clone wars
the scene where she takes his insanity away is so satisfying

Just so casual. Kinda surprised Sidious would’ve had him so informed of the plan. He really had high hopes for Maul. Heck, Maul without the injury and having proper training from Sidious, he could’ve honestly been one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy. Up there just behind Anakin, Yoda, Sidious, and Windu.
He already was extremely powerful to begin with. Not just anyone can fight Obi-Wan Kenobi or General Grievous to a standstill.
Hell, he stood in a straight fight with Sidious for most of it before he was overpowered.
To add to your point, Sidious wasn't expecting Anakin to show up. So it really does make sense for him to share his plans with Maul.
I guess that's one way of saying, "Aw shit"

Maul didn't know anything about Order 66. I'm guessing that he was in the loop up to Sidious playing both sides and commissioning clone army, but he had no idea what the endgame would be.
The way the spider legs fall apart when she puts him to sleep make me wonder if he was able to sleep at all the whole time he was on Lotho Minor. The Dark side sustains…it doesn’t heal, but it sustains.

One thing I always see people glance over is when Maul first grabs Savage. When Savage got his power up he was so entranced in his new self, he grabbed and killed Feral. When Maul grabs Savage you can see Maul calmly gain control over himself as he says, "brother" releasing him. They both have the same eye opening scene after being "reborn."

In legends and canon, it seems Maul was short changed from fulfilling his destiny. Had the fight on Naboo not completely fucked him up, Maul could have been one of the most formidable beings in the galaxy. Just a shame his potential was cut short.

It should be noted that Sidious only had an interest in Anakin after the events of Phantom Menace. Maul was Sidious' true protege until his death which prompted Sidious to make plans to have Anakin be his new apprentice. Sidious actually admitted he thought Maul was really dead (well Talzin resurrected Maul's personality).
You are wrong. Sidious has always intented to replace Maul with Anakin. He was the one to create Anakin after all.
@@samir.xanmuradov It’s already been confirmed that palpatine didn’t create Anakin. As far as we know it still could’ve been plagueis. That said palpatine did have high hopes for Maul in the beginning before meeting anakin in the phantom menace

With Maul intelligence, as the first and former true apprentice of Darth Sidious, trained to be as a Lord Sith in all sense, he would have won the war pretty fast for his master.
He built a new Galatic Underworld with the most powerful criminal families and criminal organizations in the galaxy (even The Hutts, no even The Empire, The Separatist nor the Republic wanted to mess with them) under his command; he became the leader of DeathWatch, the most dangerous warrior and terrorist organization in the galaxy and he took over the neutral planet Mandalore as his operation base that had a reach over other one thousands neutral system that he used to expand his agenda and power, also it was basically a place where none side could touch him (The Republic in the end does, but that was pretty much a war crime and it was Maul plan all the along to bring Anakin and Kenobi to his planet because order 66 was about to start), he did all this amazing stuffs in one week and without any resource at hand. what makes it much more dope. Sidious saw his plans and intellect as a threat to his project in the Clone wars and declared him his rival.
After his escape, Maul went to war against The Separatist, and captured both Grievous and Dooku with the numbers against him in one day, something that no even The Republic with more numbers could done in years, in that battle he put his former master in checkmate and Sidious went hymself to save his plans and Dooku. He also made a plan to kill Anakin for ruin Sidious plan, but ultimately fail for the reasons we know where Palpatine had to do a whole invasion and fake his capture on Corunscant to avoid it, but we cannot ignore the fact that he foresaw what none couldn't see in the galaxy, without even knowing Anakin, and yet he discovered the truth. I am wondering how Sidious will react to The Separatist winning the war, since he wanted the Republic to won in the very end, or maybe he had two plans depending of who side would win the war.
He is probably top 3 of the smartest chatacters in the show, I can only see Sidious being smarter than him due to experience and mastering, maybe Thrawn as his equal, but I would say they are pretty even.

I always try to make points on how Maul was very powerful and skillfull but you've just ultimately said everything that Maul has done intellectually and stated perfectly how intelligent he was in terms of building an organisation and taking over certain planets/army's.
If Maul remained as sidious's apprentice during the clone wars then he wouldve did a lot more than dooku ever did.
I feel if Maul was still around, he still wouldn't have been the leader of the Separatists. Dooku was a well known political figure which is why the Separatist movement got so much momentum. Maul was unknown to the public so I don't think he would have been able to rally the support like Dooku did. I think Maul would've been the Supreme Commander of the Droid Army instead of Grievous. Dooku would likely use Maul as the face of the Separatist military like Palpatine did with Anakin and the Republic.
@@sorjonen8358 also, if Maul killed Obiwan (and kept his legs), he wouldnt have lost his potential, and as we later see in son of dathomir, he had a potential far greater than Mother Talzin, who could rival Sidious power, so if Maul had finished his training he would have been the most powerful sith ever.

i wished they showed more of that in the show, kenobi dealing with the returning flash backs of Qui gons death after seeing the murderor who he thought had been dead for a decade.

Bringing back Maul was literally one of the smartest things Star Wars EVER did. They made him a shockingly three-dimensional character while still remaining to be a threatening (or more threatening imo) antagonist!!!
If I'm going to be honest I've always had mixed feelings about bringing back Maul. Like yeah he's a menace and deserved more screentime. But his survival all these years makes about as much sense as 'somehow Palpatine returned'. Like yeah, hate kept them alive but neither were giving an actual explanation as to how they survived.

I have to wonder, if Sidious really wanted to ever have an apprentice who was more powerful than him.
Maul had potential, but was cut down, and Sidious instantly laid eyes on Anakin.
Dooku was an extremely competent replacement, but far too old and wise to be manipulated. He was always destined to be discarded.
And Vader was the most promising one, but his loss to Obi Wan meant that his potential was also not reached, and he was turned into a far weaker Cyborg (weaker in that Sidious could always end him with his lightning attacks).
So either it is fate that all of his apprentices kept getting destroyed, or it is good fortune for him.

In Legends continuity, Savage is older, but in the current canon Maul is a few years older.

I was shocked to learn that this wasn’t just fan service but was meant to be set up for the sequel trilogy we would of got.
I was told that Maul was supposed to be the villain of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Did I miss something? Because if you ask me, the villain of the sequel trilogy should of been either Darth Plagueis, the Yuuzang Vong and/or Abeloth.

Clone wars made way after vader so the consistency is not there. Also remember mauls rage kept him alive

The lightsaber cauterized his lower body, preventing blood loss instantly.
I have a more logical argument I feel, Vader lost all his limbs, burned away his insides and outsides- and overall had so much stuff weaken him while maul simply lost at most a reproductive organ and his legs- and since he could keep up with sidious better then bloody kit fisto and two other Jedi masters windu specifically chose to arrest a literal sith LORD, not to mention he managed to hold his own in a 1v1 with sidious logically making him stronger then then masters on the council windu arrived with.
Basically I feel maul had a massive connection to the force and his rage made the dark side absolutely insane with him even if his legs were gone, that and darth Vader in comparison lost all his limbs completely and had his insides and outsides burned away- that and maybe his mental state was so broken that he couldn’t properly connect with the dark side after the war, and all his trauma
@@Vix-Xen maul didn’t hold his own with sideous. Palpatine was just toying. With him and savage, watch the fight he wasn’t taking them seriously at all. Maul admits he can’t even beat vader alone what does that say about his chances vs palpatine.

You're forgetting the lightsaber cauterized his abdomen, it's still tender down there and exposed so actually yes he does have nerves, plus the smoldering process is going to be very painful for him since the dark magic is making the robotic parts a part of his body.

I think her magic was limited in this scene. It’s revealed in the son of Dathomir comics that healing Maul forced her to give up her physical form, using the droid materials was likely all she could manage at this point.
His original metal legs were rotted,so she had to use new metal legs.
