@@marksantiago9841 Well it is partially chuck’s fault for that. He failed to see that Jimmy saw him as his hero and idol, and thought very loudly that Jimmy would never change. When you’re told that by the only person you’ve ever looked up to and even start to be responsible for their death, you start to lose your purpose and good will which is how Saul was born. If Chuck hadn’t been so cold then they would’ve actually worked together like Jimmy wanted in the first place. I think this was Jimmy's conflicted nature at it's core. Jimmy seemed actually hesitant and a little shocked when Howard mentioned the insurance thing as being a catalyst; I think this scene embodies Slippin' Jimmy taking over, seeing an easy and unexpected out in terms of handing off the guilt to Howard whether he deserved it or not. This was a way to push the real Jimmy down deep inside and just allowing Howard to be the villain even if at this point he knew that wasn't true.

Jimmy turning into Saul has always been about suppressing guilt, grief and trauma. This is the first and most key moment of emotional suppressing. You can see early in the episode that he is grieving for Chuck, but the moment he realises he was substantially responsible for the circumstances, his demeanour shifts completely. It would be too much to handle the guilt, so he just chooses not to and suppresses. This isn't the moment that Saul was born, but it's definitely the moment that any kindness or compassion that Jimmy once had (for anyone but Kim) died for good.

Re-watching this scene, you can see Jim was obviously interested in the bit about HHM's insurance perhaps initially feeling guilty over his role (because he was the one that pointed their insurance coverage in Chuck's direction ie. Jim "accidently" let slip Chuck's testimony at the bar), but when Howard revealed that he was the one that forced Chuck out as a result, Jim used that as his way out (ie. his loophole to get around his role for the whole insurance situation), and this is why he started doing all those pranks to Howard, a way of getting back at him, as Jimmy saw it (his distortion of it anyways).

      This is totally the case.
It would make sense something in Jimmy's mind to immediately pump the breaks from feeling the immediate guilt of knowing that you had a hand in your own brothers death. Like you pointed out - he used Howard's "confession" as a get out of jail card to remove himself from that equation. Self protection. Anything to spare ourselves from the overbearing guilt.

Its here that Saul is born. Saul is allowed to exist so Jimmy doesnt have to feel guilt about what he did to his brother. As he says in the finale he was the one who ran away. This was that first step.
Jimmy has true regrets, but buries them under Saul. Saul doesnt have to care, doesnt have to feel, doesnt have to regret or take accountability. Thats why in the final moments in the court he takes back the McGill name- he admits his biggest regret, the one thing he wished he could take back- canceling the insurance and causing his brother to kill himself.

It's so incredible that Jimmy's actor could display anguish through happiness.
    That's AAA

The reason Jimmy reacts in such a strange way is that he personally feels guilty for causing the insurance situation which ultimately led to Chuck's death. He's acknowledging that it's his *own* cross to bear, as well. He can't go into details on the difficult subject matter so he changed the subject to being light-hearted and making coffee as a diversion.

well to those who don't know, Jimmy is the one who made sure the insurance company knows about Chuck's condition.

Poor howard thinks he is the reason chuck died. Chucks illness is because of Jimmy. Whenever he gets near chuck, chuck gets sick. Chuck was getting better till jimmy showed up in his house and made chuck remember the anger, the jealousy he feels for Jimmy. I think he just developed this illness to stop thinking about jimmy. And (died) when he realised the cause of his illness. He can’t handle jimmy being better than him while doing what Chuck hates. Thats why the we saw their mom saying “jimmy” as last word and chuck not speaking about it. Thats my thought. Plus the movie even showed us, when jimmy worked hard in legal way (shredded papers)
Chuck stopped being sick and walked out of the house without even noticing.

When Jimmy whistled at the end, it reminds me of Mike's story about a wife beater singing after he gave her wife a beating and also when Walt whistling after disposing Drew Sharp's body.

If Chuck had known his place, hired Jimmy, they'd all be fine right now. But no. Chuck just had to blow it up. Him and his pride and his jealousy. He just had to be the man.

This show just does an excellent job at making you feel for the characters, especially now Howard.... dude was genuinely hurt in this and Jimmy was more happy that he was hurt then he was upset over his own brothers death

3:08- as soon as Jimmy started that I immediately thought of that one scene with Walter in Breaking Bad

Similar dynamic in that both Jimmy and Walt showed no remorse over what happened as a result of their choices. Cold scenes for sure.

God, can we just appreciate Patrick Fabian for a moment? He does such a great job at selling a man that's trying desperately to hold everything together even though everything in his life is falling apart. Howard deserved better.
