Sumati clings to "normal" estate, cookie-cutter finishes, but she's gaining confidence. Ah, the poor influence estate tract housing builder - developers have had on us. Like stuffing a wool sweater over our heads, faces, eyes. We can't see out, unless we pull the sweater OFF.

I love the simplicity of the interior, but her best decision was to increase the height of the ceiling. My home is an old 1882 brick small house with ten foot ceilings and the extra head space helps me cope with my limited square footage. I think the bathroom in the original floor plan is too far away from the kitchen. Moving the bathroom closer to the kitchen can save on plumbing costs and is more energy efficient.

If Justin needs more money for his build, he could always do a bit of modelling. PIers annoys me sometimes. Hard metal tractor seats may be 'funny' the first time you see them in a house, but damn, they are hard, metal tractor seats, not anything remotely comfortable to sit on for any length of time. I feel like he tries to push and force his vision on other people. They need a hard-working family farm house - with things like under the stairs storage for all the stuff that kids bring into the house. They will get completely impractical open staircase because it looks cool. But form needs to follow function here, not Piers's personal style.

So hate this trend over the past ten or so years for production companies to show high lights of a programme your about to see. Or where the presenter is discussing something to us but not directly looking at the camera, like talking to someone off shot in front of them.. Ah well call me old fashioned.

I don't see an empowered woman. I see a woman easily influenced by others. Piers is always pushing homebuilders towards the waning modern trend. Most homeowners are not building a home to be trendy, their building for the long term. Particularly those with impossibly small budgets.
Sumati will end up spending more to redo her walls in the near future. It's only a matter of time before she sees her home as too raw. Furthermore it should not have taken more than a year to get to this point. The tradesmen seem to all have taken advantage of this poor woman. I've seen it time and time again. A sweet woman is told she must wait, wait, and wait some more as they put higher paying jobs ahead of finishing this one. They'll show up a few hours here and a few hours there. This builder seems to have taken advantage of Sumati. This is why an experienced build manager or general contractor is required to oversee the entire build from start to finish. This shell of a home should have been completed in less than two months. Instead she had to rent accommodation for over a year. The funds wasted on accommodation could have paid for beautifully finished walls and mill work or a proper kitchen. Considering her business is cooking, a proper kitchen is a must.
So sad. She may be pleased now. However, after a few months of living in what looks and feels like an unfinished home, Sumati will begin to regret her decision to use the chip board on every single wall.
Now let's talk about those unfinished floorboards and everyone walking on them with dirty shoes.
Let's hope she plasters the walls, adds trim, finishes the floors, and puts in a proper kitchen with the remaining funds.
Unless Piers quits placing his desire for all moderns structures and finishes on all clients, he is a detriment to the show. The modern trend is on it's way out. Soon many of the minimalist structures will become a blight on the landscape. Particularly those made of cheap and cold materials.
She claimed to be a fool seeking only a shelter. Well, as it sits it is just a shelter. Had she stuck with the original plans, with the exception of the ceiling lines, she would have a wonderful cottage to be proud of.
    Cheers!

    • @SuzanneU

To each their own! you'd probably hate the house I'm building and that I've had to fight the builders for. Concrete floors, no fitted kitchen, OSB on the stair-treads, no sheetrock on the walls...the kitchen upset every single man working on site. Open shelves with baskets seem to offend them - why won't I put in units with doors??? because she who pays the piper calls the tune! They were also upset by my putting in the sink across a corner with drying racks above it, instead of under the window. And the lack of an island led to raised voices all round. If I want a big table, I'm having a big table. I started off polite and fairly pliable, and now I'm a Dragon Queen.

I agree, Piers is pushing too much his "creative" ideas simply to create show content. This wood maybe is cheaper but It is expensive to install It in that way to look perfect than install drywall, that can be faster. You can create a wall or two with "character" but this is todo much. And please, do not be so defensive cause she is a woman.

    • @J.Cameron.Stuart.Adams.
      @J.Cameron.Stuart.Adams. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@VictoryofGod You missed my point. This is a woman with an impossibly small budget who was duped before. She loved her traditional cottage. But that cottage was a disaster. This is a woman who cannot afford to be lead astray. I feel they did exactly that. Everyone told her what she should and should not do.
A few changes would have suited her nicely. The end result shows she is easily influenced by others. Once Piers showed her how chip board can be beautiful, she took it to mean every wall should be covered. Then the builder slapped it up without any attention to how it should be put up. When using ply, chip board, or any products with exposed joints or seams the product must be installed in a specific pattern or deliberately randomized. The chip board here is neither. It's simply thrown up with cut pieces fit in to close the wall. In this instance the chip board is nothing more than a cheap product as no care or detail went into it's installation. There is a major difference between simply slapping it up and deliberate design.
A kitchen is vital to her income. How everyone managed to suck every last dollar out of her without installing a kitchen she can work with is wrong on so many levels.
The end result is an unfinished home that took entirely too long to build. Had she stuck with her original plan, she would have a finished home. And much sooner.
