Making the Makoto Shinkai Anime Style in Blender Tutorial
In this tutorial I go over my process for recreating the art style and feel of Makato Shinkai's beautiful animated films, in the software Blender 3d. I break down aspects and elements which I feel elevate some chosen shots/scenes in his films, and then go about trying to make an inspired scene based on that in Blender. I hope the tips and showcase in the tutorial prove useful for you!

can you go over in more depth how you achieved that painterly approach? it looks really good!

Ah right! So the painterly effect applied on top of the outlined render (same method as in my other anime tutorial) is done in the free program GIMP as a filter (both the waterpixel and oil painting "artistic" filters worked fairly well)- I'm sure other programs will also offer similar stuff!

Wait, there's a free addon that adds realistic skies? So I've been using an outdated version of Blender for YEARS because the realistic skies addon I paid for in 2020 doesn't work with newer versions... for nothing?
