  • The Centre for Inclusive Architecture and Urbanism (Ci+AU) at BRAC University, in collaboration with UNDP Bangladesh, has embarked on a pilot initiative aimed at advancing Dhaka's journey towards becoming a livable and inclusive city. Supported by extensive research, ethnographic survey, community support, and expert guidance, the pilot initiative, titled "Spaces Below Dhaka's Flyovers: An Untapped Opportunity" aims to transform unused urban spaces below flyovers into community areas that serve the greater good of the city. Our research reveals that the annual loss due to the lack of use, misuse, and abuse of these spaces is over 2 billion US$ or BDT 23,000 crores. In the first phase of our project, we have developed a policy framework to address this urban challenge. In the second phase, we delved deeper into our research, engaged relevant stakeholders, finalized our findings, and proposed conceptual ideas to transform single-use flyovers into multiuse green infrastructure.
