I appreciate you shedding light on this Toph. I just hope that pad hacking an OEM PCB is widely accepted at some point as well. It makes B0XX style play entry barrier lower (though Frame 1 Lite does as well). The other big part is being able to customize layouts as well for comfort.

I'm 100% glad that melee's online community has out grown its detestation for custom controllers, because as a person a lot of wrist issues when playing melee or in life in general, I'm really anticipating the box style controllers to become widely accessible, so players like me can learn this game and have fun without it being a detriment to our long term health. Also great video! i watched the Goomwave DX video when it released but didn't really understand its significance beyond the customization aspects, so thank you for explaining it very clearly my man.

I love displaying GCCs as a decoration and still need some colors (black, silver, few more). Was just wondering if you had any you wanted to get rid off for a quick sale. As a Marth player and ex smash 4 player I love pivots. In smash 4 we called them perfect pivots and in both Melee and 4 they are 100% controller dependent. Melee just needs way more things in a control where as 4 only needed to be able to do that and function to be great. I am really great at pivots because I played Marth in smash 4 as well so I used them all the time. But I have an old GC controller right now that I couldn't consistently do it on no matter how hard I try. It's a 20 year old original I used for non-Melee GC games for years. I also used it for Ult because Ult didn't have pivots anymore and then used it for Melee recently because I could SDI like mad since the controller is old anyway, but then I realized it couldn't pivot and I had broken the left stick too much to use for Melee anymore.
Button remapping YES!! As a musician, I need to keep my hands healthy, so I refuse to use claw grip for a game as intense as Melee. I've been using trigger jump in Smash 4 and Ultimate for years, but I haven't gone too deep into Melee yet, partly because I can't customize my controls for tournaments. Sure I can map controls in Dolphin, but that only goes so far. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this. Side-note: anyone know of a way to remap controls for N64 (preferably Hori Pad style) controllers? I'm getting into Star Fox score runs, but part of the run involves pressing C-down while mashing your brains out on the A button. It'd be nice if I could remap C-down to the second Z button or something.
What I would personally love in a custom controller is one that has a small change to the psychical layout of buttons. Bring both the B button C stick higher up and then have the X button mirror the Y button. Make it so there was basically no travel time from jumping with Y to the A and B and the same with X to the C stick. I wish I could try a controller with notches just to see how much of difference it would make, but I can't justify spending 300+ on a controller when I'm not that good and the controller can wear just as easy as any other.
I was a pm player when I first started but kept trying to go to Melee but the dash backs were horrible. I never knew what the problem was but now that makes sense. Guess I gotta try again with UCF!
How is leffen able to instantly double jump after sdi‘ing to the platform and touching it? Did he perform slide off DI after inputting SDI in the opposite direction?
The best part about the Goomwave DX, is that it might motivate haxx to unnerf firefox angles on the boxx. Currently the upward air dodge angle necessary for peach's only ledgedash option is banned on digital controllers =(
i recommend trying keyboard melee as it can basically emulate boxx style inputs and after practicing it for even just a week i already can say I'm committing fully to a switch. really feels great to dash dance with ease, for example.
So other than replacing some parts that he talked about, would one of these controllers last for a really long time? I’m down to get one but I don’t want to buy another one every year or so like I do with OEM
These controllers would wear the same as a normal controller, but the way it processes analogue values means that it would remain functional for longer. And it makes it easier to replace parts once they need to be replaced, so theoretically one goom can last multiple normal controller lifetimes.
Completely unrelated to the video, but I noticed Toph uses The Great Suspender. In case he or anyone else hasn't seen, it was recently updated to include malware. I highly recommend switching extensions or downgrading the version.
do you know if the difference in ECB from wavedashing to ledge is enough that people just ledge dash after doing it in pro play? because i know you have a reset ECB when recovering to ledge which makes ledge dash easier but I'm wondering if you know under what circumstances you would have a bad ECB for ledgedashes?
The first controller I bought (which is the one I've been using for a little over a year now) has the malfunctioning stick box which makes dash backs really easy but now controllers without it feel weird. Is there any difference between the feel of these controllers or is it just placebo?
Many of the great Marths still didn't use empty pivot in 2016, to my great shock as the worst Marth on earth at the time, as I figured out how to do it by myself
I play ultimate and get a lot of flack for using pro controllers, is the game cube controller definitively in some ways or is it really all just about personal preference? Seeing this video made me realize there's quite a bit more going on below the surface level for controllers.
The main advantage of GC controllers is the notches allow you to go 8 directions precisely. Pro Controllers are easier on the hands though and the face button layout is better.
Is there a way to buy this controller. And request specific characters like if I main species like Falco, or maybe a floaty like jiggly puff would they have specific controller settings already premade
If you watch the original video on m2ks controller collection he has like 60, way more than you saw. He also got rid of many of then, so I don't really know how much he had in the past
I use the B0XX stick cause my hands start cramping after 30 minutes, no matter how careful I take it or how much I stretch or anything. So hopefully they stay tourney viable by the time offline events come back.

I am now at a point where I only have 1 left that I doesn’t have any major problems and I want to stockpile maybe 2 more, but there doesn’t seem to be a great way to buy any without dropping 90 a pop for new smash 4s, or gambling on a used original from eBay, which has workout out poorly for me in the past. Any suggestions?
Thanks for this video. I remember seeing some stuff about the Goomwave DX but I never fully understood why some of the changes were important. Do you think there will be any struggles with legality? I don't think there should be but I could see people saying that modding the mobo and inputting your own values is a step too far

Unless you are a top player there is absolutely no advantage to using this. Just use your regular controller. Practice makes you better, not a piece of tech.
Where can you buy a decent melee controller? Nez sold out on valentines in 2 minutes. Goomy doesn’t have a shop to buy anything premade without sending a controller in... trying to spend 250-300 on a controller but can’t find any decent options I don’t want to buy beaver battles bullshit.
You touched on it but pivoting is always left out of these controller conversations. I stoped maining marth bc my controller that I used for years stopped being able to pivot, I bought two more of the same spec and they just came not being able to pivot, so now I’m just out of luck. No one should have to buy multiple controllers just to hope that one of them randomly has good characteristics. It’s a huge difference. It makes fighting any good peach & puff on DL go from “eh this is fine” to a complete slog

I play Smash casually but at the same times these are features should've been available years ago. The amount of laziness Nintendo gets away with amazes me. Dead zone calibration and analog stick calibration started in about 2005.

You need to test ledgedashing on the left side btw, almost all controllers can do it on the right side: nez the frickean mawd gawd.
