    I’m sorry but tracks like Super Bass, Whip It, Va Va Voom, Envy, Pound The Alarm, The Boys, Bed etc. are some of Nicki’s best examples that she can make really amazing pop records and still be in touch with her Rap/Hip Hop roots. Doesn’t take anything away in regards to her status as a rapper.
    If Drake can get away with so many pop records and still not have his rapper status questioned I don’t see why it’s not the same for Nicki
    It’s sad how the media shunned Nicki for experimenting her sound when she herself has also said Pop Nicki = Rap Nicki one in the same.

    I think Nicki (and other rappers) doing pop music/hopping on pop songs as a feature is more of a reflection on the industry/society than anything. As much as Hip Hop dominated the last several years, it’s never been fully accepted into society cause it’s been deemed as “unacceptable” or “inappropriate” or “not real music” etc. you see it at awards shows all the time. And also in terms of record labels a lot of them are independent record labels (ex. TDE) so they don’t have as much money and resources to compete with the other record labels that are under Universal, Sony or Warner that are worth billions, So they are not able to give their artists the things they need to be up there like radio reach, music video budgets, interviews, award shows performances, playlists placements etc. Pop/Country music has always dominated those lanes. So to be an inspiring rapper in the industry, you’re almost kinda forced to do pop music to reach that wider audience. And you see alot of the new rap girls doing it (Saweetie, Megan, Latto etc). And this not to say they can’t experiment with their music or genre bend and have fun with it. But it’s kinda sad they have to conform in order to reach that big time success. But that’s just my two cents

      @@itschiichii that is true tho. country music may be non existent globally but in America alone it's big. they have their own country Hall of fame and country music awards which is their version of grammys.
      Abt the rap thing. I'm a big rap fan.. lyrical rap to say. And anytime ppl say rap isn't "real music" well that's cuz the labels has destroyed rap music by forcing it to be all abt the beats only and have a catchy hook and the biggest reputation it has is that rappers only talk abt jewels, money, strippers/vvitches, party etc but that's only the mainstream clowns tho. U look at real talent rappers like J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Tupac, Royce da 5'9, D smoke, Eminem, Busta rhymes etc and they all have lyrical rap sheet about true emotions that speaks volumes than these industry plant pop songs.
      the right argument would be that female rappers are pushed to have this big booty image rapper by their labels. And many say they are not into female rappers or that female rappers are bad bcuz they only rap abt p*ssy n tits.
      And the label don't want a woman and rap abt hardships bcuz it isn't interesting enough to sell. But we applaud men for it. This has been a thing since lil Kim days. I've heard that Nicki wanted to make more real relationships and struggle songs but her label shunned it off. There are female rappers that kills it in cadence, lyrical delivery etc and will blow all these mainstream female rappers. some of them even has ghost written for someone like cardi B.

    I think Nicki Minaj like many other artists (Beyoncé, Rihanna, etc) moved on from pop music because it doesn’t push them as artists. It is music anyone can do and it will only last for so long… At some point you got to return to your roots and do the music that you really love. There are pop stars that are born doing pop music and those will always love pop but those that turned pop for success will eventually abandon those records.

      I think they were smart to do it to purposely build white and none-BLK Audiences, then go back to what they truly like! I think it’s an intelligent marketing move! It’s unfortunately what many have to do, to be big Black Artist. It truly breaks my heart. 💔

    • @miickeyzreal
      @miickeyzreal 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bmwjourdandunngoddess6024 If you separe markets by color, yes, everything you explained is correct. Artist purposely go pop to gain a bigger audience but is not necessarily white, it’s all the races. Nicki Minaj is listened by Latinos, Asian, White, etc because she did pop music which it’s easy to the ears of the general listener.
      Everyone has their favorite genre but pop music can be any genre. During Nicki’s rise it was bubble gum and EDM and she did both, in fact she added rap to those. Nowadays is trap and Cardi B, Megan among others are purposely making that type of music. Doja Cat is a blend between rap/trap and retro pop music. It is done so globally they can grasp a bigger audience.
      No matter the genre of you only do 1 type of music and dedicate yourself to just 1 type of audience, you won’t be a mega star.

    Nicki released “Starships” then released “Beez in the Trap”. She released “Va Va Voom” then released “Freedom”, she released “Anaconda” the released “Only”, she released “Bed of Lies” then released “Truffle Butter”. She will always combat a pop song with a heavily influenced rap song to show she isn’t just a pop star. So her saying she doesn’t want to do pop anymore isn’t surprising but if her next album is anything like “Beam Me Up Scotty” it’ll be a banger for sure !

    I was not a fan of her pop music. I feel in some ways, the reason she is sometimes slighted and challenged for her top rapper/top woman rapper status, is because of her pop portfolio that seemed to push her rap artistry to the back. I think it was a business decision made at the time because rap was nowhere near in the spotlight like now, and the pop girls were ruling mainstream media

    • @emyf9197
      @emyf9197 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah it was a move made by her n the label to push more to pop. I liked her rapping before she went full pop. That's why many gets called a sell out. same for Taylor Swift moving from country to pop. Eminem also got the heat with recovery album ppl called it a very pop sound.. especially bringing Rihanna to love the way u lie and bringing him back to the top. And he didn't deny it either when he won the Grammy he said "This song and the album wouldn't get as much attention without Rihanna"..
      and in both rap and rock/metall u lose respect when u go into pop bcuz that's mostly when u take the easy way out to gain more money by bending to others rules in suits. And that's also when music quality suffers bcuz your label is mostly in your creative control. kesha is a good example of it. They want u to follow the same hit formula and generate money out of u. And that's why pop isn't respected from other genres as the artists don't write their own lyrics and the topic is very shallow, sexual n generic.
      To be a pop star u need a pretty face first over talent. It's all abt the outer image and charisma over the actual vocals. very few pop stars can do it all. singing n writing.

She's the queen because of the numbers, the chart and the popularity she got. Hating it is a strong move. I wouldn't mind if she doesn't keep rubbing her stats and number on her rival face on rap battles and beef, which she got from her pop era. And I don't say it to drag her down or something, but I truly believe that you can be a respected rap/hip-hop icon and still embrace your pop offerings from the past. It actually shows your versitality and proves your status as an influencial musical act. I am pretty sure she doesn't hate songs such as Starships or Pound The Alarm as much as she says she does. Nicki was one of the first hip-hop artists to truly establish a crossover sound in the pop world, in my opinion. She wasn't just a rapper jumping onto a pop track, they were HER pop-rap hits. Of course, there were successful rappers singing pop songs before her, but they mainly had 1 or 2 mainstream hits or stayed in the hip-hop/R&B genre with some light pop influences. Nicki brought hip-hop into the mainstream and has maintained a huge career with it: the first to do so in the mass/social media era as well, which she should be more recognised for.

    She has a lot of inner pain, feelings of inadequacy and selling out. I think that's why she defended that girl from Little Mix so hard. Her insecure nature stems from her husband to her brother to her heavy pop music influenced phase.
    It is always so dissapointing she doesn't seem to self reflect even though her music seems to convey it. As a former big fan my love for her dwindled over time as she became more like Kanye and less like the Hip Hop Pop girl her early hits were.
