I canned oranges...a couple years ago I think, during 'Canuary'. These sound even more super-duper! And, ta-da, I might just put some of my home dehydrated ginger in there. I do make tea out of dehydrated orange slices, dehydrated ginger, and honey. Not really 'tea', but a hot 'make me feel better/warmer' beverage. Thanks Leisa for bringing us this wonderful idea!
@@thefookster6826 You know, I find so many uses for the ginger I dehydrate. We had a bad frost here in NY state in May, and it pretty much wiped out the apples and all other fruit. But I had about 30 pumpkins so I made pumpkin butter instead of apple sauce. WOW! the fresh ginger in that turned that into a 'must have'. SO good! I also give it to people at Christmas. I use the Ball pumpkin butter freezer recipe, but don't freeze it in jars, I put it in baggies, and put the baggies in a freezer bag.
@@palominogirl2732 that sounds delightful! I love apple butter, but lately I’ve seen a lot of recipes over pumpkin butter. Definitely need to give it a try.
Ball did that to me! I got a recipe from a TH-camr and went online to print it and it was removed! Luckily, the TH-camr had it there so I printed it. Louisiana Red Bean and they turned out delicious.
Perfect timing. My three orange trees and ruby red grapefruit trees are ready to pick. I'll try lemmons too. Nice to have a new recipe. Preciously explained. Yes, perfect gift. Thank you, Lisa.
I love this recipe! The syrup is wonderful with amaretto! Absolutely wonderful! I make it each year because oranges go on sale this time of year. I can't believe Ball would do that. Actually I can...but why?!
Oh my! I can just imagine how your home smelled. So many ways these could be used. Thinking orange chicken would be really good to have these for, with a few red pepper flakes they would be perfect. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe.
It reminds me when I was young and my mom was following a marrow recipe "cut in half and remove seeds". Eventually after a lot of bother with a long spoon trying to get the seeds out, I suggested maybe cutting it lengthwise might be easier? That was a long stare I got!!
Awesome timing is perfect I have been dealing with a sinus feeling little yuck and I just got a bunch of clementines which im sure would be great too I've been nibbling them and I was drinking some honey tea tonight when I saw your video the citrus really does smell wonderful and make you feel better! Thanks dear !
I am going to absolutely make this. Also, I think what they mean by cutting the orange length wise might mean that the slices are actually cut in half. But your way is fine too😊
During the winter, I use almost this exact recipe to simmer water on the stove and add humidity to my house and make it smell good. Obviously I don't add the sugar and honey, and I usually only use 1 orange and sometimes I'll add a few cranberries, but my house smells so yummy :).
Jo Hubbard..The liquid would be wonderful to put on a hot cake after poking tiny holes in it and then frosting with the orange slices for decoration. Thank you and Merry Christmas. 🍊🍊🌲🌲
You may get more in the jars if you cut the slices much thinner. They would probably not look as neat in the jars though. I will try this. I have some oranges in the frig. Thank you!
The recipe instructions actually say, "Halved lengthwise and thinly sliced, ends and seeds discarded." To me, that's cutting from top to bottom (instead of around the circumference), and then slicing those halves into half-moon shapes. It obviously works your way, but they'll definitely be easier and more uniformly sliced when halved first. I also think they'd be easier to use after canning. 😊🍊🍊🍊 Seedless navel oranges are 3 lbs/99 cents by me this week AND local unpasteurized honey is only $2.39 for a huge jar...so guess what's going on the shelf next?! How could I NOT? 😅🧡🧡
I made this today and the syrup thickened quick. But its tasteful. It made 4 half wide half pints. Im assuming the water bath will mix the orange so not so thick.... cant wait to try.
When measuring honey, you might want to spray the container with PAM, or something like it. It might make it easier to pour it. It depends on what you're cooking.
Ooh tea is such a great idea. I got oranges on sale while I had all my canning gear out but I canned them as juice instead of candying them bc I didn’t know how i would use them. Don’t can it if you don’t eat it right? Next sale I know what to do thx 💜
I tried the Ball recipe which was almost identical to your recipe. I thinned my slices between 1/8" to 1/4 ". I didn't realize I needed to use light colored honey. With the dark colored honey, I found the oranges to be less attractive. I do think they would look good on the top and sides of home canned cranberry sauce.
The syrup. You had some in a larger jar, the sugar water left over from the brine like liquid. I canned my left over liquids from my cowboy candy to use as a marinate. Just wondered if this was the same kind of thing. @@SuttonsDaze
Those look so yummy & pretty! ! Have you ever added the whole allspice or is that just an option? I can hardly wait to try this! Thanks for a new nudge! :)
In the video you said you either steam can or water-bath but at the end you said to bring canner up to your pressure and can 10 min. So is it WB or PC?

Hi Lisa are your oranges in the USA waxed like ours in the uk? If so should they be washed in boiling water first? I’m going to make these as they look delicious. By the way the link doesn’t work😊
You cook like I do..😂 yep, that looks good..that appears to be a tablespoon, eh..who's measuring..I love it. And those oranges look phenomenal. I'm doing this. Was the water you boiled the oranges in worth saving to make jelly or no? I just wondered if it was orangey enough? I waited till the end to see if you had saved it. I might i have missed it if you did. Im baking cookies and might have missed that part
I would think they would go in the jars better and easier to use later. I think this is a wonderful item to prep for the winter. Thank you so much, Lisa.
That leftover syrup is PERFECT for a pitcher or 4 of iced tea or hot tea by the cup.

A nice winter salad in Italy is sliced fennel (tossed in a bit of olive oil), sliced oranges and toasted walnut pieces. Yum!
Oh yes!
I halved the circle slices and they went better into jar.
I’m thinking these would be amazing in iced tea in the summer too.
Definitely
I made 24 half pints of these last winter, for tea! I love hot tea on a cold day, especially if I don’t feel good, too! They are so good.
Sounds great!
Did you use them in any other ways?
Oh, yes! With a splash of whiskey, a cold has no chance!!!
We like lemon honey and ginger root tea when we're not feeling well. I imagine you could use lemons and limes as well in this recipe,
I was thinking the same!
what a wonderful idea will be doing this thank you😊 P.S it, s on page 24 In the Ball canning book under Oarnge Slices in Honey Syrup 2018 book .

That's what I was thinking! Orange Cranberry honey for tea!!
I have done this with lemon, lime, and orange. It is delicious! Awesome in teas, even with just hot water for citrus tea. 😊
Did you do it with the honey as well for your lime?
