you should have mentioned your playing a seven string tuned standard. I'm trying to follow on a 6 sting tuned to a B and its not making sense till i counted your stings
I was wondering that too, didn't realize at first that he was using a 7-string. Kenny on the one live concert uses a 6 and is further down the fretboard on the high pitch melody starting at 3:24 which was throwing me off. I came back here and realized it's a different guitar with 7 strings. Knowing that, you can simply know what the notes are and transpose to the correct position on a 6'er fretboard. Which is Kenny playing that part on 18, sliding down to 13, back to 18 and sliding down to 11 for the low part. Guy in video is apparently correct that the guitar tuning for this song is B. So on 18 he's playing F, sliding down to C, back to F, then sliding down to B-flat. Since this dude got a 7-string, he's got it tuned to standard E as if it's a 6'er, so that's why he's playing 13 (F) and sliding down to 8 (C) back to 13 (F) and down to 6 (B-flat). That works, but you're right, sounds different despite being same notes because it's in a different position on the fretboard. It would be best if he had used the 6th string while muting 7th, so that he would be playing the actual notes on 18-13-18-11. Anyways, knowing the fretboard notes is a great skill to have and I'm still learning it, lol. Watch the live version, Peter in green shirt on thumbnail, will clearly see what Kenny is playing on second one from 3:44 to 3:56 and how he's around 18-13-18-11 pattern.
Oh yah, Kenny alternate picks steady but the rhythm is made by his bending the notes up and down through the run, best to see it on sheet music to understand what's going on. To be precise, he's only bending on the 13 and 11 notes, never on 18 that I can tell. On 13 starts with a 1/4 before going up 1/2 step and then holding that for 2 notes before bending from 1/2 up to a 1/4 down followed by a 1/4 down, then steady on 18, then 11 he plays the same bend pattern on 11. Really nice touch he employs that tricks the ear into thinking there's something else going on.
