Tomorrow is 14 years to day since Peter left us and I'm still listening to his songs. I'm going back to my yonger years when I was walking to high school and university with my walkman in the pocket and Type O Negative cassetes in my backpack listening to them all the time. Please do more deep dives with this band.
Fits with the goth/metal motif. And the cool thing is she can talk shop WHILE gushing over him at the same time. Something Peter would get a kick out of i believe.
From What I understand about Pete, is he was a hopeless romantic. He literally smothered girls with his love and compassion which ended up with them leaving him. So this song is actually bearing his soul of being desperate for the affection of a woman and to actually love him back.
Yes. Johnny said when he fell, he fell hard. Some women find that to be a turn off (the dumb young ones, of course!).😂 He needed someone who fell in love with his soul, not his persona. He never found that. Not to mention I think he was kind of a firecracker to handle, which is typical for artists. The right brain dominance makes them eccentric and unpredictable.
Apparently Peter had a really intense relationship end badly. I think (I could be wrong.) this is the woman who was sort of flirting with some guy and Peter assaulted him and got himself sent to Rikers. Again, I'm not entirely sure if this was the reason, but I know he had a relationship end badly and it affected him for a long time. She is actually in the dvd video with the band's commentary. They don't speak kindly of her.
@@_msthings_ He cheated on her. And she cheated on him. Both were at fault. Peter couldn’t take it that she left him for another guy. That’s why he assaulted him.
The line "Am I good enough for you" is absolutely Peter bearing his soul. It's some of the most honest singing that any vocalist, of any musical style, has ever done.
Brings a tear to my eye every time, I think we can all relate to that line in the pursuit of love and happiness. Bless you Peter, I don't know about the women in your life, but you sure as shit were good enough for the rest of us!
Peter was a friend of mine, I miss him so much. One of the most talented, generous and funny people EVER. My band Otto's Daughter did a mini tour opening for Typo Negative and Celtic Frost, one of the greatest memories and times of my life!!! Love that you picked them!!! ;)
Thank you for sharing Jacqueline. Peter’s voice accompanied me through many phases of my life. I was privileged to be able to see ToN every Halloween for a few years. Shortly thereafter he passed. His voice is timeless, especially combined with the instrumentation of ToN.
I saw you all play together at The Hard rock Cafe in Anaheim outside Disneyland. It was fun to watch all the reactions of the people there for Disney look at the people hanging out before the show in all their goth attire. One of my all time favorite concerts.

I'm not Matt but this entire albim (October Rust) is one banger after another. Nearly 30 years of listening later there are only two tracks I skip on a playthrough. "In Praise of Bacchus," "Green Man," "Burnt Flowers Fallen," "Wolf Moon," and "Haunted" all are solid tracks. My current obsession is "IYDKMIGTHTKY (Gimme That)." "World Coming Down" is, in my opinion, their best album. Have fun discovering! :)
If I’m not mistaken, October Rust was the only album written solely by Peter. The ones that followed were a collaborative effort amongst the whole band. Kenny and Johnny said when Peter was struggling with substance abuse and depression, they literally were going to the studio and putting songs together as they went along. It was like pulling teeth because Peter was not in a good head space.
People have their Christmas albums, summer and party playlists. When the leaves fall, and the wind gives a chill of late autumn, I listened to October Rust.
Hey, TON wrote a Christmas song, and covered a Summer song, and 'Who Will Save The Sane' is kind of a party song. It's a weird party. Shit, they wrote a Valentine's day song too. There's probably an Easter or Labor day song somewhere out there too.
Don't forget the awesome album title least of worst! LOL my mom saw that and tried to ask me what it meant and for some odd reason she couldn't understand the concept.
@@LysergiaBandOfficial I agree that slow deep and hard was their best, in my own humble opinion. However, October rust was the end result of the build up to their final, polished sound. Production and musicianship on this album where some of the best from any metal band I've ever heard.
Peter Steele was a Juggernaut of a man. Stood like 13 feet tall and built like a Norse God, had an incredible vocal range and very talented bass player too. Never met him in real life, but I've always heard he was very humble and kind to everyone and loved his mom.
“People always ask ne.. Peter, why do you play bass with one hand. Well, let me tell you, with a face like mine, you learn to do alot of things with one hand.....”. -Peter Steel, Allentown, circa ‘95/96. 😂
The pitch bends you're hearing is actually the keyboardist Josh silver. He's fucking incredible and there's alot of keyboard parts in their music people mistake for the guitar
@@palmerlp I had the great opportunity to see them in 96 in a small nightclub the stage was only 2ft tall real low ceilings about 350 ppl, it was awesome I'll never forget it! 6' 2" and 225 lbs and it was the first time i crowd surfed i ended up on stage and Peter dwarfed me.
Its the same kind of -get the panties of of them- trick, like scottish accent for example, Mr.Connery. ill bet there aint many female who do not get bit "moist" when they hear that... ;)
"Am I good enough, for you?" is soul-crushing to me. One of the best legacies Peter left us is him daring to speak about fragile and intimate feelings very explicitly, especially in a tough music environment like rock/metal. (Not unlike Devin actually.) This dude fought a lot of inner and outer demons, RIP Peter, your work remains important to many.
Peter is sorely missed, by so many. This song in particular, shows that you can be a "manly man", yet still allow your vulnerability to be seen. RIP Peter Steele. 🖤
Her first reaction to seeing Peter Steele? The same reaction to ANYONE seeing Peter Steele for the first time. He is a god and is a musical gift to this mortal plain.
The end of this song when he gets to the “Am I good enough for you?” Always makes me so emotional. It switch’s up the whole tone of the song and it’s heart wrenching. It makes me want to cry every time I hear it. What a music Genius he was.
I remember a couple of us hanging out by the tour bus after the show and Peter came out and offered us pizza and beer. He signed our stuff and just hung out for a while. It was an amazing end to a great show and evening.
When we visited a concert in Hannover, he came to the side of the stage where we were standing. Peter handed me his half full bottle of wine with a wink and hint of a smile. He told us it was a cheap bottle he bought at a petrol station, but for me it was the best wine I ever drank in my life. I was 16 and ready to die happy after that concert.
Same scenario but he went inside the tour bus and brought out bread meat and cheese and took them across the street to a park and he made sandwiches for his fans. We all ate and took pics and got autographs. He was so genuinely nice.
@@philiom7724 Bloody kisses is an incredible album, but not their best in my opinion. It gets as much recognition as it does because of the songs like Christian Woman, Black #1, and Summer Breeze. I believe it's a tie between life is killing me, and dead again as their best album. Probably more so life is killing me. But again that's just my opinion.
It's always the same formula but I never get tired of it: Reactor watches this video Reactor falls in mad, sweeping, passionate love with Peter Steele and melts into a puddle of human I can't stop smiling
Peter was a fascinating person. He just had that strange presence that's hard to describe. At first glance somewhat imposing. Very tall, massive figure. Wide shoulders, athletic. Facial features akin to those of a mythological god chiseled out of marble. Absolutely oozing charisma. Intelligent, soft spoken. And that voice.
I have never seen someone, especially women, not get flustered listening to this song! This man and this band knew how to send power, passion, and melody straight to someone’s heart, overtaking them for 4minutes….
I hear 10 seconds of this song after not hearing it for a while, and immediately have tears rolling down my face. He had such a captivating presence in every form possible. Type O Negative was always a go to in high school in the 90s to lay in my floor with the Xmas lights on and veg out for hours.
Love Type O's version, but of course Cinnamon Girl is originally a Neil Young song. I don't know if any "reacters" have ever done any direct 'cover vs original' comparison videos, but that could be an interesting concept, I think. At least when you have bands that make a cover song their own, instead of just mimicking the original note for note.
I saw them in '97 at an outdoor show during the day and they were off. It was like Vampires during the day. LOL I was lucky enough to see them in '03 at Trees in Dallas drinking Crown with Vinnie Paul at the bar. We loved how many goth chicks were full on in garb. Dime finished the show singing "Black #1" with Kenny. I wanted to see him jumping for Peter's mic. 😂
You just explained in words all that I felt when I fell in love with Peter Steele at 14 years old 😅 I wanted to stay up to see a concert of theirs live on German TV on a Thursday I think, and I asked my dad to please please please let me stay up cause the concert started at midnight. My dad wanted to check what I was going to watch, so he stayed up with me. He heard the first two songs and he was like: this guy is a colossus. And then he went to bed. One of the best memories I have from my teenage years ❤️
Ich war im aladin beim Konzert und ging! nach einer halben Stunde...what? Die Menge ist ausgeflippt und ich wurde unter Lederjacken, Nieten und Boots förmlich zertrampelt . Heute bereue ich gegangen zu sein. Franka
Despite all that moody, dark atmosphere in their songs, Peter was one of the funniest guys you could imagine, he could make everyone around laughing with tears. He was a rascal, with a very dark sense of humor, but a big, big heart for his friends, band mates and fans. He battled with addictions a lot and tragically after he was sober, he died. Not of drugs, but very big guys like Peter are always prone to various health problems. RIP Green Man, I still miss you.
He died of sepsis after he had diverticulitis. It was initially reported he died of a heart issue, I forget exactly. But years later, his family released a statement it was actually sepsis from diverticulitis. Diverticulitis is pretty common. I had it last year. But if it isn't caught and treated in time, it can lead to abscess, perforation, fistula, sepsis. So sad in his case it got that bad.
Peter and Kenny were so awesome at layering their voices together to give that harmonization that you hear. It seems so rare anymore after Peter and Kenny as well as Lane Staley and Jerry Cantrell. Peter was just... Damn... Such an amazing talent we lost too soon.
Every song on the October Rust album is a banger. I still listen to it at least weekly, despite the fact that it’s almost 26 years old. I was fortunate enough to have gotten to see Type O live in ‘97 and even caught Josh and Johnny (keyboards, drums) at a local pool hall and played several games with them. Type O is just one of those bands whose members compliment one another so perfectly, it could never work if you replaced even one of them. Pete’s sound, using the distortion on the bass guitar, is so unique that you can identify it in almost any mix. Pete left this world far too soon and although they have a large and loyal fan base, I don’t feel that they ever reached the heights that they could have or got the critical recognition they deserve.
It's true. My favorite is Bad Ground. haha Seriously, this album won me over. A friend of mine played their earlier stuff a LOT. I would give in and let him play it in my car while we drove around, but I just didn't get it. Then this album came out, and he knew it was something special, so he talked it up with that "just listen to it... trust me... you're going to like this." I .. didn't hate it. Quite a few years later, I had a strong urge to listen to it, so I bought my own copy and was hit with that 1000 lb hammer of nostalgia. I really love how bands in the late 90s would pull from the saccharine sweet melodic sensibilities of the 80s, and the rough edges of metal and grunge from that time. It's a fantastic blend. And I'm a huge sucker for 90s ROMplers, so the MIDI piano drenched in atmospheric reverb... * mwah * Nothing sounds like this anymore, and I miss it so so much.
Fuck man I wish I'd seen them live. I didn't leave school until 98 and it wasn't until about 2005 that I heard the music. I've seen some cool bands, but I missed a few by my short hairs. :(
I have a friend that's a local rock station DJ, and back in the 90's she gave me the October Rust CD. I threw it on my stack of CD's and forgot about until I was bored and gave it a listen. I was completely struck by the sound of the band, their uniqueness. 'Love You to Death' wasn't even my favorite song off the CD, but I grew to love it over the years. I'm sorry I never got to see the band live, but I'm sorry that I didn't see a lot of bands live. For some reason I thought that youth would last forever...8\
He goes lower in Be My Druidess. I can sing Haunted, I can’t reach the low notes in Be My Druidess, it’s crazy he was able to sing those notes without sounding off pitch
Haunted is my absolute most favorite song by them. The song gives me goosebumps and makes me tear up every single time I listen to it, I also got lyrics from it as a TON tribute tattoo. Such a beautiful song, Hauntingly beautiful.
13:04 Take an evening and listen to this whole album on headphones. There are *so many* things going in the background. The keyboardist, Josh layered an unbelievable amount of sounds and atmosphere throughout the whole thing. I have been listening to this album since I first bought it in ‘96, and there are *still* things I catch that I have never noticed before.
I love them all everything they have done but this album is just at the top for me. Like you said the whole thing and the atmosphere it creates is pure wonder and amazement
Josh Silver, Kenny Hickey, and Johnny Kelly- we love you guys. TON would not be what it was if different people played the instruments. The Drab Four was pure magic.
Josh is my favorite rock keyboardist. I was lucky enough to chat with him years ago about non-musical things. Kenny's singing and excellent guitar riffs along with Josh's great keyboards definitely added so much to TON...
He was a racist cry baby. He experianced noting out of the ordinary. We'll all lose our parents at some point and yes, cats die too. Legend has it most poeple get left by their partners, some even more then once.
I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned in the comments, this is just the shortened version of the song, probably for the sake of making a music video, a bunch of their songs were shortened that have videos. This was really fun to watch, hope you've listened to more of them since!
Type O Negative was my gateway into metal during childhood. The lyrics all perfectly reflect Pete's mood and inner struggles. "Christian Woman" and "I Don't Want to be Me" are some of my faves. R.I.P. Peter Steele.

Anesthesia is my favorite TON song. Peter Steele was extremely talented. Not only did he sing and play bass, he also composed, or, as he would jokingly say, "decomposed" all their music as well. Great reaction!
Anesthesia is the one I keep recommending too... he really does it all on that one, from the low lows, the up an octave belts and the fry screams at the end it's perfect
I used to go see them at this little Club in Rhode Island call the Palladium back in the late 90s and early 2000s and they were some of the best concerts I've ever been to, his voice still gives me the chills
I was lucky enough to see them in concert, twice. My wife and I are both big fans. When we started dating, and she had both Bloody Kisses and October Rust in her CD holder in her car, I knew she was the one!
The ToN community is strong in the comments. I am really enjoying everyone’s stories about Peter, reading their favorite song choices, and their general love for ToN. I missed seeing this community in action. I’ve had a lot of funny experiences at shows with fellow fans. We’re a unique bunch who loves a unique band 💚🖤💚.
This guy was an enigma. He had a machismo that commanded respect, but was also so big and intimidating that he could get away with being sensitive and vulnerable. I mean, would _you_ mess with him? That openness resonated with a lot of people in a genre of music that tends to lean in to the tough exterior. I mean the guy could sing like an angel ( _and_ like a demon.) Which goes to show, we're all kind of a wonderfully messy blend of strong and weak, bold and timid, powerful and fragile -- but most of us are too scared to show it. When someone comes along and dares to be genuine, it's pretty remarkable. Well. This whole experience woke up some old feelings.
Saddest day in history was losing Peter Steele, and never getting new music from him. I was shattered. His music and voice got me through my worst times, and still does to this day! You are truly missed green man!!!!!
I've been watching this channel as a former classically trained singer myself who has always loved metal. Watching how you break down genres outside your comfort zone and slowly grow to not only appreciate, but like the harder rock is so awesome to me, and I was hoping you would get here at some point. Peter is a once in a lifetime voice that nobody could ever hope to replicate with as much ease as he sings, and I look forward to seeing more of his masterpieces here. Wonderful as always :)

Insert self deprecating joke that Pete would.
Fits with the goth/metal motif. And the cool thing is she can talk shop WHILE gushing over him at the same time. Something Peter would get a kick out of i believe.
Oh he never stopped!
He will, always💚🖤💚
Peter is turning her on from beyond the grave, over 10 years since he passed. What a legend
14.....
1:20 Indeed. Chad always win. Peter was a Chad his height and face were exceptionally. His face had great dimorphism and leaness.
@@waterhorse5199 OK. I see. Like I said, I wasn't sure of all the details. Thanks for filling me in.
@@_msthings_ Sure! Peter was quite a playboy. That’s partly why he could never maintain a healthy relationship.

I think BK is better, less polished with more edge and less layers.
Peter Steele was a Juggernaut of a man. Stood like 13 feet tall and built like a Norse God, had an incredible vocal range and very talented bass player too. Never met him in real life, but I've always heard he was very humble and kind to everyone and loved his mom.

When we visited a concert in Hannover, he came to the side of the stage where we were standing. Peter handed me his half full bottle of wine with a wink and hint of a smile.

“I Don’t Wanna Be Me” “Cinnamon Girl” “Black No 1” “Christian Woman” all great songs. Wish I could’ve seen them in concert before he died 😢

Yep. ..
In terms of hard rock/metal, it is tough to beat the harmonies in TON or AIC. Van Halen had some good harmonies too.
It's true. My favorite is Bad Ground. haha
Seriously, this album won me over.
Be my druidess. That's a panty dropping song

I was lucky enough to see them in concert, twice. My wife and I are both big fans. When we started dating, and she had both Bloody Kisses and October Rust in her CD holder in her car, I knew she was the one!
I wish I could have seen them! How lucky!!
Oh man! How lovely it is!
I hope the same happen to me but with Alice in chains music.
Love Petrus ❤
@@CUOREyogaymasajes Alice in Chains is a phenomenal band. Criminally underrated. My favorite.
Does she still have them?
The ToN community is strong in the comments. I am really enjoying everyone’s stories about Peter, reading their favorite song choices, and their general love for ToN. I missed seeing this community in action. I’ve had a lot of funny experiences at shows with fellow fans. We’re a unique bunch who loves a unique band 💚🖤💚.
I was looking the another way back in the day; was not really into goth metal. But years later, after, well... life, this is fantastic.
I cry for the loss of Peter. I did a whole biography on the band in high school, accompanied with a poem about Peter.
@@linziRyan1965 I would love to see that poem if you still have it.
I haven't seen a woman react to steele like this since I was a teenager and im 40 glad you're discovering this wonderfully gifted and tormented man.
Of course no one can replace Peter but a band called Frown are doing sterling work keeping the flame alive. Give them a few tries they get really close.
Denis Puana can do a dang near perfect imitation, he has a TH-cam channel
Thank you, Father Sway. And this absolutely has been a journey.
She seems like she really really enjoyed this on another level.
It never gets old watching someone hear Type O for the first time
Type O's sadly small discography is something I can listen to over and over. I never get tired of the whole experience their music gives you.
Considering the length of the albums, it's not that small. TON albums are THICC
Nobody will ever replace Peter. However, if you love him, i implore you to give October Noir a try
@@alabamaarrowhead I gave them a try, their original material is bad, and their TON covers don't improve the originals. Pointless band that TON fans should stop referencing. Just listen to TON.
It's not really small. In comparison, a similar band Acid Bath only had 2 albums before disbanding.
I believe the OP said "sadly small" considering Peter died young and it's small compared to what could have been. @@pixiv2914
The song every woman wants to be dedicated to them. His voice was so very beautiful.
Everyone: I realize now looking at your comments that I analyzed the shortened version of the song. Apologies. There's no going back to do it over, and we're stuck with it. That being said, please recommend another song of Type O Negatives I should check out, and upvote it to eternity so I can add it to my list. . . with the recommended video!
Thank you!
No worries! It's still an incredible song regardless! Can't wait to see your reacrion!
Type O Negative - Unsuccessfully Coping With the Natural Beauty of Infidelity. would be a good follow up!
I don't care, just happy you discovered Peter. He's the only vocalist that has ever made my car windows rattle. Hope you dig into more of TON. Someone made a comp video of his range and it's rather impressive. Anesthesia is a great song, check it out live from Waken or Christain Woman, from Waken....anything from Waken.
Black No1 or Everything he has ever done, TY. :)
Thank you so so much. His music has gotten me through a lot. His passing still hurts to this day.
My favorite songs are Nettie and Anesthesia, although I there aren’t any great quality videos I have found (just audio only).
If you would like a recommendation for a video, Wolf Moon live would be great. But Christian Woman and Black No. 1 are probably the most well known tracks :) enjoy! Can’t wait to see this video tomorrow!

Man was a giant, used a upright double bass (acoustic) as a guitar with chains in black no. 1 but in the end after he died I bought a peavey millennium that he used exact year and model and bought the black light green DR bass strings as him for performances in my younger years.... he was a hero to me as a kid... RIP peter
Without fail, Type O Negative and Deftones has gotten me in with the ladies 100% of the time
Seeing someone comment Deftones and Type O Negative in the same sentence makes me happy
He' right though
Peter Steele and Chino Moreno, making women ovulate since the 90s.
Dude. That Pink Floyd tribute line.

You fucking put a post with good memories with someone who was a close family friend to the point where he was another a uncle- and apparently everyone has been involved in my life. Cool beans guys, I hope y’all never have anyone special in your lives to share memories with.
Seriously? What a privilege. Any cool stories?
@@samimissy8190 My uncles name was Nikolai. Just because they were friends and as I understood it Able to communicate with my uncle without pause, doesn’t mean it’s not real.
Some people live actual lives, outside of the limelight. I have a list of people I’ve also met through working with radio stations and FM entertainment… but I still have a tech support job as my main career.
SMH shit on peoples memories all you want, but to some people “celebrities” are just “the person who comes over for dinner”.
@@jendean931 no just them talking and doing whatever they wanted. I just had the privilege of bedtime stories when he was around when I was a kid.
No real idea he was who he was because he was just my uncles friend. 🤷🏻♀️ essentially he was just always nice and courteous even to my bitchy aunt.
@@ibelieveinzombies If you have memories I am happy for you. I do not begrudge anyone having any that are based in reality. The truth is Peter did NOT speak those languages. A few words here and there of Russian & maybe a few less in Polish but never once was Norwegian ever voiced or mentioned even as a single word (& I would know as my mother's family is all Norwegian so I am familiar with the language).
Have all the memories you like but please don't add fictitious details to them is all I would ask as it is disrespectful to Peter. That's all :)
@@samimissy8190 what I was told and the truth can also be two different thing. I just remember being fascinated by him “speaking” in different, what I thought at the time of languages with my uncle. Personally I know halfassed Russian, Spanish and English. So I apologize if that’s what it came off as, but I can only go by what I was told
Welcome to Gothic Metal, Elizabeth. There's no way back. 😁
It's Countess Elizabeth now.
Theatre of Tragedy, Tristania, Paradise Lost, and Haggard now surely must follow! ;)
i dont understand what makes this GOTHIC metal. is it the lyrics? cuz it doenst really sound any different from metal...
@@richarddutton1981 I've always though of Type O as more doom metal.
@@richarddutton1981 it's not just the lyrics, the use of synth snd spooky sounds is a big part too. Even in bands like Epica and Within Temptation, clear symphonic metal bands, you find gothic elements. King Diamond has a big gothic vibe too, but still it's metal.
I really enjoyed watching your reactions to one of my favorite songs. It was so great to see someone get excited and have such viceral reactions to the music.
I'm a male and can see how Peter's voice can seduce a female with his words and singing by your reaction. I love it when he's painting the girls toes in the video. So submissive and dedicated to his lover like it should be!! Love her to death...need I say more??
He's from Brooklyn, NY..
His voice was naturally deep.. he was a huge dude at 6'7". He had a fun energy about him in person, he seemed to enjoy chatting up his fans.. I randomly met him at a bar. He was wearing camo pants & a green military jacket with a cap on..
He also has a 6 octave vocal range from what I've heard one of very few people to have that.
@@masterchefmarshall Not at all, I count 3 at best. I think the most impressive vocal range was Yvan Rebroff with 4 octaves. I'm talking about real singed notes, not overtone or fry vocals people do on youtube to convince everyone they have an extended range. I've never seen 6. It would mean you can sing more than basso profondo and highest nathalie dessay's ranges in one person ^^
was it at Duffs?

Pete still making the ladies swoon from beyond the grave. RIP Green Man.
“Anesthesia”, "Wolf Moon" and very sensual "Be My Druidess".
'Anaesthesia' for the win!
I second Wolf Moon, great song.
@@o__math it's the song that got me into the band recently. Kind of a good thing cause if I heard them in high school in '00 - '05 I WOULD have got in the choir to try and emulate Pete. Was already a poor goth kid in band at the time. Add to other bits... I'd have "TRIED" to ladykiller Pete naturally was. And failed[was under 5'6ft and my voice took awhile to mature into a lower tenor. Very high baritone.]
@@dragonsword7370 My first TON album was October's Rust. Found in a reseller bargain bin in perfect conditions. I was a broke teenager who had listen to them previously just enough to spark my curiosity, had a few bucks and got it without thinking twice. It's a great album for starters or even overall, can't recommend enough.
+1 for Wolf Moon and Be My Druidess
