I agree with all the comments: there is something in Meghan dress that doesn’t 100% convince me, but I think that the tiara and the veil were stunning and she looked very happy, and this is what matters.
SummerDaysAllYear I was looking for this comment. Grace Kelly by far the most stunning bride I've ever seen. Her dress was too beautiful for words. It's everything!! 😍😍
@@ProductiveChi I totally agree, but let's face it. It's Grace Kelly. She could have worn a potato sack and she'd still have looked Vogue magazine cover worthy.
Wasn't she pregnant at the time? Unless I'm thinking of someone else. I read she was panicked that the Prince would find out she wasn't a virgin, having screwed all her co-stars whether they were married or not.
Solange dress is, by FAR, my favourite ! Seriously, it's everything I like in a wedding dress. As you said, she looks like a goddess in it, not a "princess", and that's why her dress is so interesting !
I know this vid is 3 years old, so the latest Windsor weddings weren't covered, but I absolutely adored Princess Beatrice's dress from last year. I like re-purposing wardrobe, and the way she had her granny's Norman Hartnell evening dress redone was so lovely. It also showed that you don't need tons of money for a royal wedding dress.
I liked it but what really bothered me was the length. It was about 1.5 inches too short in my opinion. I also thought she could have done more with her hair. I loved the dress though
At the time of Diana's wedding, her dress was a game-changer. The gowns of the seventies were mostly a-lines with almost no ornament. Minimalist. (I made my own!) Diana sparked a return to the romantic.
London was mid-New Romantic fashion when that wedding happened. The rest of the world never caught on to that fashion. The dress was perfect for the day.
Diana’s dress was a cake topping meringue mess. But it was the 80s and everyone tried to copy it. It’s just so impractical, though. Because she was in a carriage, the dress needed to be bunched up and once she got to the cathedral it was all wrinkled. The only way that dress could work was if it was steamed while you were wearing it and you walked to the church. Lol.
Queen Victoria deserves a mention for making the white dress fashionable for weddings. Before her, white wedding dresses were not unheard of but weren't the norm for general public. Now it is expected that the bride will wear white, regardless of social group. Also a special mention for Dita Von Tease who wore a gorgeous purple gown.
Aria Clements. Solid Alencon lace made my dress amazing. No bling on it yet it glistened like a fresh snowfall. I'm soooooooo grateful that I found my perfect dress at the 1st store I stepped into. Whew!
My first impression of Meghan's dress was that it was modern, appropriate.... but ultimately too conservative. I found it to be a bit boring. I loved Kate's dress by comparison. It was fun to see your picks, Justine!
The purpose of Meghan’s dress was purity, classiness, not busy looking and how ingenious, this was so people would focus on Meghan’s beautiful face and not a heap of lace. But most important of all, Harry was awestruck by her beauty. A beautiful couple. They will do great things.♥️♥️
I thought the same thing...and then everyone and their mother was saying how amazing and well-fitted the dress was. I think it was nice...but it could have been a little taken in around the waist especially...
I agree. I watched Kate and Will’s wedding again after Megan and Harry’s and everything about Kate and Will’s day appealed to me more. I also agree with Justine in that Kate’s dress was my favourite.
heyjul 24 it’s funny I was underwhelmed by Kate’s, it looked like my mom’s from nineteen sixty three but with the v neck and long instead of three quarters sleeves. I love the boat neck and long lace of Meghan’s though it it was loose around the chest but was tight an option???
My favourite is Kate too!! Actually i love Kate, her style.. everything que wears really and her personality as well. She seems kind, charismatic and humble. She is a true inspiration of mine
Grace Kelly's dress was so influential that think it should have been on this list, but I'm glad that at least you mentioned it. I also would have included Carolyn Bessette's. It was a complete departure from the over-the-top style from the 80's and it's the real embodiment of 90's minimalism. I was very young then, but it truly made an impact on me because of how simple and elegant her dress, hair and makeup were. And she also put Narciso Rodríguez on the map.
@@ingriddubbel8468 I think @PlugInKali 's comment implies that 80's style was still pervasive in the early '90s--I can attest to that having been a bridesmaid in three weddings from 94, 95, and 96. LOADS of lace, bows, and puffy sleeves. So Carolyn's dress drew a line in the sand from all that.
I loved Meghan and Harry's wedding BUT, I was SOOO underwhelmed and blah when I saw her step out of that car my heart sank a little ( being dramatic on purpose ), I was expecting splendor and sparkle, elegance etc. I was speechless and not in a good way. Her face, tiara and veil were gorgeous but the dress looked like a poorly fitted nightgown that she found last minute on the David's Bridal discount rack. Meghan is so so beautiful but that dress choice really let her down... It was just too plain and loose fitting like they didn't have it in her size. It could have been so good sigh*
I agree. As a designer, I stocked up on every fabric and lace and notion I could think of that might be used, and sat ready to knock out a replica. I knocked out Kate's, minus the lace, in eight hours. But I'm not a big name, so would never get the credit for it. Anyway, when she stepped out of the car, my heart did sink. I boasted to my followers that I was going to replicate her gown first, even though I was very sick, and then it ended up being something so basic that I decided screw it, I wasn't going to rush and make myself sicker over a design that literally has already been done...exactly. Down to the same seams. The design aesthetic worked well for the wedding, and it's a design I'm fine with overall, but that shockingly poor fit really pulled it down, as did Clare Weight Keller claiming to be the very original designer. She's as much the original designer of that gown as Kanye West is the very original designer of the plain white t-shirt in his line. And no, brides losing weight in the final days is no excuse. Oprah ended up having to have an entire new gown made overnight. If Meghan stressed-lost weight, it should have been alterable, especially with the cut is so basic.
Aria Clements Absolutely, we may have that excuse but when you are marrying Prince Harry 🤴 that does not fly, they could have had it fixed even hours before the wedding, it was not just plain - it was painfully plain. 🧐🤕 I had my hopes way up. If at least the bodice and sleeves were fitted and there was some sort of lace or embellishment around the opening at least it would have looked so different and more elegant... Of all the things under the sun, why that?! Oh well, that ship has sailed 🛳 🍃 💦
Even just the bodice being better fitted would have been an improvement. If I worked with a royal bride who wanted a design so basic that is has literally been done exactly before, I'd both make sure it was properly fitted so it didn't look off the rack, and would try to talk her into some embellishment. I think lace at the neckline would have competed with the embroidery on the veil a bit too much, bit perhaps some tiny scattered crystals around the bottom to give a bit of magical sparkle when she walked. It would still be simple and elegant, but have some point of interest. That basic of a gown is more acceptable for a non-royal wedding, and it worked for the aesthetic they were going for, but when a gown will be on display for the entire world, it just needs something more.
Aria Clements Definitely some embellishments and a proper fit would have made all the difference, I was just thinking anything on top would have been better than how it was because it was just literally nothing, blank. I personally don't think it would have competed too much with the veil because everyone has a veil and many if not most dresses have that material somewhere in the gown to make it look more elegant and feminine, too bad there are no do-overs! Lol But a little sparkle would have been so much better! ✨🌟
The veil was the focus of her overall ensemble, unlike Kate's. Kate had a veil, but her bodice and skirt bottom were the focal points. An interesting thing is that they both had lace representing the realms, and Kate's train and skirt bottom had that lace, and Meghan's veil had it. I think some dangly earring for Meghan would have been fantastic. The whole area did need something, but something that wouldn't compete with the veil. It's not a neckline for a necklace, but dangly earrings would have been just the right touch, I think. Honestly, I'm not convinced that was the dress she originally meant to wear, and I can actually make an argument for that.
I really loved Keira Knightly's wedding dress. It wasn't over the top, and it seemed to really match her personality. She also still wears it out to events, which I think is a genius idea. If you're going to pay a lot of money for a dress, why not wear it as much as you can! From the looks you showed in the video, I really loved Audrey Hepburn and Kate Middleton's the best.
I mean, given the controversy from her career and ethnicity, it was a good PR move to stay as safe as possible. it's a shame but if she had worn something close to what Kate had worn, people would have torn her apart for being a frivolous actress or a gold digger or some such nonsense. better to be boring than scandalous.
Sadly this is partly the truth. But also MM has a very simple style in any case and is not a frills and bling type girl. Just look at the Tiara she chose. Again more simple understated elegance.
My favorite wedding dress is the one my mother wore. She was married in 1955, and had the dress custom made for herself. It had the very full skirt, which required a hoop skirt underneath, and was covered in a floral lace overskirt, had long fitted lace sleeves, a satin bodice like Kate Middleton's, with a lace overlayer going up into a boat neck. Satin covered buttons from the sacrum to the neck and 8 or 10 at the wrist. Some clear sequins where incorporated into the floral lace pattern for subtle sparkle. With help from my home economics teacher, I altered this dress to fit me for my own wedding in 1981. Whenever I see wedding dresses, I always compare them to my mother's. Some come very, very close but my mother's remains my favorite and the most breathtaking wedding dress that I've ever seen!
Sounds Exquisite...The Wedding Gowns of the 50's and 60's had a Beautiful Regal Style about them...True Bridal Style..Not like the Styles you see today, where they are Spilling out of the Top Half..Those Bustier Dresses are Worn by Every Second Bride..🙄 I wore my Mother's 1960 Silk Embossed Brocade Wedding Gown in the 80's...Boat Neckline,A Line..Slim fitting Piqued cut Sleeves..Everyone else was Pooofing it Up😂😂😂
I love my mother's dress too! My grandmother made it in 1956. It has the full, tea-length skirt like Audrey Hepburn's did. The neckline was high with a round collar, nothing earthshaking. But what Was fantastic was the fabric. Pure white, cotton eyelet. But not just any eyelet. The holes were not round, but square! So unique!! My sister cut it up and made her prom dress out of it, so I won't be able to wear it for my own. Now I am left with a few scraps of the eyelet and lovely photographs of my parents as very young people! ♡♡
Grace Kelly’s is my favorite wedding look of all time. So classic yet detailed. And modest yet stunningly beautiful and most of all just really suited the bride and found that rare balance of covered without swallowing up the bride and still really showing her off.
Landhaus Idyll My oldest sister’s wedding dress had something of the same silhouette as Solange’s dress; it would have looked “blah” on me, but it was very flattering on her! My two cents’ worth: when you haven’t the funds for the fabric & craftsmanship you want, try hard to get the correct silhouette for your figure & a good fit. (You will look good for that day & in pictures, though it won’t become a family heirloom!)
I'm so happy that Bianca Jagger was included- it's so unexpectedly chic and being so gorgeous- that probably helped in pulling off something so bold for the time period (then again, she was getting married to Mick Jagger soo)
When Megan first came out I was disappointed at the simplicity of the dress. No extra details on the dress itself, although the veil is quite beautiful. I soon forgot about the dress because Megan herself shines. Her personality and graciousness as well as how apparent it is that she fully understands her role in the family is far more important than this dress she only wore once. I am rooting for them to share a long and loving life together.
Svetlana Knight I agree, it was simple, but I think given this was a second marriage, it was elegant and not too 'bridal' but fitting for the situation. And it could have used another "tuck", but maybe she preferred some breathing room.
I loved the simplicity and the cut but the fabric didn't do her justice, it was boxy and looked ill fitted. If you have a super simple dress, it needs to fit perfectly.
I think that’s the point. She chose a plain dress and minimal makeup and still looked incredible. I loved that less is more approach. It’s made me think about my whole attitude to makeup and silhouettes
I personally love the story behind Queen Elizabeth's. Even the very event of her wedding was a national celebration and brought many many people from all backgrounds together.
@@jormunganfan I was only 3 but I remember that wedding. My aunties were teenagers and took me twice to see the extra long newsreel. It was something to be happy about after so many years of stress and uncertainty. My relatives have talked about it over the years. We still had rationing until after the Coronation but the wedding cheered everyone up. And the dress was perfect.
I think my favorite dress in the past few decades was Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. She looked simply elegant and she made people take a good look at the puffy excess that was in vogue in the early 90s. I can't believe you left her off your list! She was a trendsetter.
Maggie Did you know that Meghan loved Carolyn Kennedy’s dress, therefore the simplicity of Meghan’s dress. Just wish John, Carolyn and Lauren were still alive.
The Grace Kelly wedding dress pattern is what got me interested in making my own clothes. I'm still learning but one day, I hope to be at a skill level to make it.
Bianca Jagger's suit was most definitely iconic. I loved Solange's dress as well. I also think Princess Margaret's dress was memorable. Loved Meghan's dress too. It was simple, photographed beautifully and will stand the test of time.
I think Princess Mary of Denmark had the most beautiful Royal wedding gown. The neckline was gorgeous; it was cream which to me makes the dress look timeless and takes away from the starkness; the heavier lace of her veil (though she didn’t wear it down) looked like an heirloom and hung beautifully from her tiara; and the dress was fitted very well and accentuated her shape beautifully. She already looked like a princess before the wedding began. Didn’t care for her father’s kilt though. I think if she were marrying anywhere in Great Britain or one of it’s commonwealth countries it would have been lovely, but to wear it in Denmark seemed really out of place as the kilt means nothing to Danes.
Both of Princess Mary's parents are from Scotland and live in Australia (a Commonwealth country) where she lived before she married the Danish Prince. The KILT is what Scottish gentlemen wear to all formal occasions(like their daughter's wedding) wherever it takes place. It was perfectly appropriate to the occasion. The Danes did not mind at all about his foreign costume. Their late Prince Consort (husband of the Danish Queen) was FRENCH. And who looks at the father of the bride at a wedding anyway? ALL eyes are, or should be, always on the Bride...
DlchMcV I can only agree with you that Crown Princess Mary had the best royal wedding gown. However I must side with Gary L on the Kilt I was very appropriate for her farther to wear the Kilt since he is scottish
Agree that Mary's dress was beautiful. The veil was a heritage piece, 100 years old. I think Mary's day was outstanding because she was so happy as well, and despite the poor cut of Meghan's dress, she did look happy. In general I liked Kate's dress but hated the almost Madonna-like conical boobs - it ruined the dress for me, as bad as poor fit. Agree about Angelina's dress. How sad it's promise of a happy family has been otherwise.
Love you so much Justine! I'm being flooded with compliments for my dressing since past couple of months and it's your tips & tricks that helped me. Best part, I didn't shop for anything new! I'm just wearing clean clothes in solid colours (mostly, very less print/thread work) and accessorising appropriately and pairing them with good shoes!
Kate"s dress is also my favorite, simple but yet very elegant, the details shows her personality. The dress wasn't boring at all. it shows class with modern twist. I ddn't really like Meghan's dress for some reasons. It is a very classic dress love the fabric but overall the dress itself didn't do it for me. I love how wedding dress can tell you a lot about a bride.
The halter dress Meghan Markle wore to the reception suited her better than the ceremony dress, but I understand why it wouldn't have been allowed in the ceremony. The ceremony dress needed something more - maybe bell sleeves (to be in this moment) or maybe some interesting folds at the neckline.
Kara W Yes, I understand why the halter dress wouldn't be allowed for the ceremony. But imo the ceremony dress could have been a little more interesting (not more revealing, just more interesting).
I loved the dresses of the two Kates, Moss and Middleton. Each very different but very appropriate for the individual and the occasion. Lovely video Justine and perfectly timed.
Fun look back in time! Grace Kelly was and still is my favorite, a true class act. However, Kate Middleton is a lovely young woman, and I think she has future queen potential.
Hello, Rara. A queen or a king is the royal occupying the throne. Their spouses are titled following some rules. A man will be a prince consort and a woman, a queen consort (it was somehow considered inappropriate for a man to get the title of king by marriage, hence the prince).
I was underwhelmed by Angelina's dress. It looked like just a slip that goes under a dress. The kids drawings all over it seemed to say she was getting married for the kids sake.
For a 'modern' royal wedding dress, my favourite one is Kate's. Meghan's dress, however, would be something I could see myself wear, as the style is so elegant and timeless, and doesn't look too over the top or regal. If only it was a bit tighter on her, not to make it look sexier or anything, but the poor fit made her look shapeless, which is weird because that style of dress is basically shaped like an hourglass.
A tight dress woud have been uncomfortable in that stiff fabric and she would have been/gotten so sweaty on such a sunny day - nobody wants to see a sweaty bride ;) I also would have prefered it tighter on her, but now i understand why it had to be looser - because of protocol and all. ;)
@OnWingsOfHope: Why does the price of Meghan's dress keep going up? Until the royals themselves reveal the price, I can't believe any "reports" on the price.
Meghan is pretty shapeless though. There was a picture of her in March or February in a blue t-shirt dress that is fitted, and she barely has a curve at the waist.
Meghan made history herself. She doesn’t need an extravagant dress to reinforce that. I have so much respect for her choices for the wedding. In my opinion, the dress is so effortless and elegant. I love the taffeta fabric too. It is a beautiful canvas to accentuate her glowing face.
My preference is Princess Mary of Denmark. It still has the simple boat neck long sleeve silhouette but it has finishing details of pleats and patterns down the bottom to finish the look. Meghan's looked like a mock up with the edge details yet to be added.
Denise Sheehan Yes Princess Mary was So Beautiful and Regal.I noted that she wore no Veil over her Face..even though she was a First Time Bride..That was my only Criticism of Meghan Markels look.
Great video concept Justine. My absolute favourite has to be Princess Mary of Denmark. I see you added her into the video. I thought the designer, Uffe Frank did an amazing job!
Megan had no embroidery on her dress… neither did princesses Margaret. Megan had a 20’ plus length veil, Princess Diana had a 25’ long train. There are some similarities, but what I find most interesting is that you didn’t really touch on why Markels dress was not iconic. Markles veil had embroidered flowers of all the lands of the common wealth plus a California poppy which was her favorite flower. Fergie and Markle both had private requests for personal touches in their embroidery. Markles was the poppy, Fergies was the image of an Achor which symbolized her husband to be’s attachment to the Royal Navy.
Great content as always Justine. Kate Middleton's is definitely my favourite. It wouldn't suit me but I love how it looked on her, perfect in my opinion.
Regardless of the fact that you're a fashion Expert and that your pieces of advice helped me out a lot, You're the best non-native English speaker I've ever heard .. I Don't know how you do this but thank you!
Another great video Justine! My favourites are Prince Grace's dress and the one that never gets mentioned anywhere is Sarah Ferguson's (when she married Prince Andrew in the UK) xx
Oh, I just love your videos. I'm not always interested in the topic of the video, but you make everything seem so entertaining. Thank you for informing us on so many topics!
Thank you for showing our Crown Princess Mary. I simply loved her wedding dress. In my opinion it was perfect! A close sceond is the Greace Kelly wedding dress..
Anna Kjærgaard She was So Beautiful,Regal and Calm..I could watch the Service over and over..I Love your Language and Accent..I watched the Wedding in Danish couldn't Understand Anything...and Still Loved it..Beautiful ROYAL FAMILY..Such Tradition😊
I really enjoyed the overall feeling of this presentation...A varied selection of styles... I choose a little from all of them but my fav was also Kate´s dress. Thanks Justine great video!
@Amy Shakalis lol you can't denie there was some little hope of beauty in there.....7 months to look for a dress that will make history and then THIS....THIS....
My three favorite wedding dresses in no particular order are, Grace Kelly because she looked every bit a princess in hers, Jackie Kennedy's because the shape is classic but it has a charming vibe to it, and Lydia Hearst's Christian Siriano gemstone illusion sleeve, pink ombre chiffon dress, because it's literally what I would imagine queen Titania from A Midsummers Night dream would wear. It's my dream wedding dress.
I totally agree with you on all of the iconic dresses - love that you referenced pop culture and history! Queen V and Bianca Jagger - true innovators! Thank you for another great video! xx
The "new look" of the 1950s was the nipped in waist and full skirt. Designer Oleg Cassini did many beautiful dresses for actress/girlfriend Grace Kelly, who later did marry Prince Rainier of Monaco. The detail that went into Grace's dress fills an entire book, included lace purchased from a museum. The Duchess of Cambridge had sort of a nod to Grace, in the best ways. My wife was a huge fan of (pardon if I spell this name incorrectly) Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, and quite liked her wedding dress, but not the price! So she bought a dress in maxi style with subtle lace, it was of course beautiful and we had money left to place a down payment for our house! ;)
Maybe a video on timeless handbags? What are the top models one should “invest” in? Same ideea for watches would be great. Love your way of explaining things.
Justine, I never thought I could eagerly await a video on TH-cam, but I do await yours. They are interesting, informative and very watchable, and I think the watchability comes from your very endearing personality. Thank you. Very much.
Kate's dress and indeed the one worn by Grace, very similar ... but both gorgeous! And on the cheeky side, I still love my own from 2002, my own design and all. The bodice had handmade lace and was backed with blue silk which I also used on the hem ... and added tiny pearl beads on that (by hand). Went fairly traditional too with the shoulders and elbows covered. Even made the petticoat that went underneath the dress to create the 'princess' look ... think they call it ballgown. Had a medium size train and a short veil (which I also made). In the early 90's I was an intern at a bridal atelier. The hap-hazard way of sewing (speed was more important than precision) was such a let down to me, it was then and there I made up my mind and make my own wedding dress whenever I'd meet the one and get married ... which I did about 10 years later.
When I watch your videos I begin to understand why I like certain fashion details. It's an amazing gift you have to understand so many different tastes.
My favorite video. I got married 5 days before my 3rd child was born. No wedding. No one threw party or shower. It’s fun for me to dream watching these. I have three daughters so I’ll get my fill. Thank you for you wonderful channel
First of all MM is gorgeous and could make a paper bag look good. However the dress seemed all wrong. Traditional lace veil but plain modern looking dress. Fabric too heavy making it look ill fitted, boxy, and oppressive in the heat (if it was hot). Tiara didn't suit the dress. Hair looked unkempt which didnt suit the style of the dress. I just don't know how it was allowed to be so bad. I think she was trying to make people see her as reserved, princess like, demure, wholesome because if she had a more risky dress people might see her as an American hussy divorcee gold digger. That's just my opinion. The only fact is that every time I see the dress I cringe. But I'm really happy for them and especially happy that the princes could marry whoever they loved instead of the disaster marriage of their parents.
Sarabeth Watch the Interview of The Designer..Really interesting..I thought the Dress wasn't Modern..Kind of like a,Nun that left the order to get Married..!😊
I agree. Very happy for them, lovely couple, but to me the dress was too heavy and loose for her petite frame. I think because of all the criticism about her she went for something very simple. The halter dress was lovely though.
I agree with the point. I'm a big fan of boxy heavy dresses like the Solange one, I love wearing stiff fabric where it's all about the silhouette, no frilliness whatsoever, so I feel like I should like the dress, but it just doesn't look right.
Hello Justine. What did you think of the minimalist dress of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Very 90’s but also still very modern looking I feel. Definitely my favorite..
Harry’s wife had a terrible looking wedding dress. It didn’t make her shape look good at all. It was just plain and unimaginative. Now, her veil was nice but that’s all I can say for her outfit. Her reception dress fit her better but the wedding dress sticks in the mind a lot more.
Me too! I think the long gown (worn with those fabulous gold cuffs) was her best, but in terms of unforgettable fashion moments, her cream-colored jumpsuit with low u-cut front, open back, and "wings" is what I found most forward-thinking. Ballsy!
I agree with your opinion... In Meghan's dress, hmm her dress was beautiful but I feel kinda weird on her shoulder to her arms, the fabrics seems not match/fit on her shoulder and it's looks like oversized to me 😅 In my opinion, wedding dress should fit on your body type, it doesnt mean too tight or press body and make you uncomfortable. Just must have to looks more smooth on your body, so when people see it they can tell that your dress is only made for you.
I think Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice are by no means style icons BUT their wedding dresses are WOW .. the sisters were stunning brides
Eugenie's dressed was stunning; IMHO Beatrice's (which was a remodeled old dress from the Queen) was dowdy.
Agree
They were fantastic - I loved that Eugenie wanted to display her spinal surgery scars to raise awareness with the backless dress.
I agree with all the comments: there is something in Meghan dress that doesn’t 100% convince me, but I think that the tiara and the veil were stunning and she looked very happy, and this is what matters.
sesenena I totally agree with your comment.
I agree Kate's dress is the most beautiful, Megan's dress nothing special, rather boring
I agree they both were so happy .. the dress looked borrowed .. and heavy 😩
sesenena
The Tiara really was beautiful
Isabel Barragan Then you dont knoe bespoke fashion.
I agree with Katie Perry. The problem with Meghan Markle’s dress was it looked like it needed a last fitting. It’s the first thing I noticed.
agreed...
She was still lovely, of course.
She needed to be able to move, sit in a carriage etc. Maybe why not a tight fitting in such heavy silk.
Maybe she didn’t want it that way so she can feel more comfortable on a very nervous day
She looked like she had a last minute weight loss. The top was too loose.
In my opinion, Grace Kelly's dress is to die for, THE wedding gown. Thank you for the video, Justine!

Yes Grace Kelly's dress was a classic 🥰🥰 definitely influenced many
Why Queen Elizabeth's dress is so timeless omg? It doesn't look old at all...I think brides can still wear it, unlike Princess Diana's dress
80’s fashion was terrible. The dress was very fashionable at the time, especially for someone who was young.
In individual spots, close up Diana's dress has some beautiful features but on the whole it looked like it needed a good iron and just wasn't great.

Grace Kelly and the Duchess of Cambridge. One definitly inspired the other. Beautiful silhouette. RIP Princess Grace! God Bless You Catherine!
Kate's dress was OK on it's own but she lost so much weight before the wedding that she looked sick. It distracted me the whole time.
Her dress didn't fit her style and that's why it looked strange. While the reception one was totally on point and her style all the way.
The reception dress wasn't a good match for her broad shoulders

London was mid-New Romantic fashion when that wedding happened. The rest of the world never caught on to that fashion. The dress was perfect for the day.
Diana’s dress was a cake topping meringue mess. But it was the 80s and everyone tried to copy it. It’s just so impractical, though. Because she was in a carriage, the dress needed to be bunched up and once she got to the cathedral it was all wrinkled. The only way that dress could work was if it was steamed while you were wearing it and you walked to the church. Lol.
It was just horrible
I really don't like Meghan's dress but your breakdown of all the royal dresses helps me understand it. It was still a bad fit though.
Yes, the fit was an issue...
@@justineleconte She probably was thinner than her last fitting. Look at her with her mother the day before the wedding, Meghan was quite thin.
I think I read somewhere the reason Meghans dress fitted so badly was because she kept changing her mind on what she wanted.
Sira Mea Dita's dress was magnificent!!!
There was a mention about Queen Victoria’s choice of white at 5:23.
She's no.6 and for the very reason you mention! 😀
Iridescent silk makes anything amazing. :)
@@sogorgeous2257 lol
I also think Meghan's dress was not well fitted. Grace Kelly is my favorite as well as Bianca Jagger.
I thought the same thing...and then everyone and their mother was saying how amazing and well-fitted the dress was. I think it was nice...but it could have been a little taken in around the waist especially...
Everyone noticed this. It was baggy as hell.
None of her clothes fit well. And she must buy horrible bras because they don't help her under her ill fit clothes.
It is not well fitted bcse she is busy to create her own drama and attention.
My favourite was Catherine's also. Very simple and elegant. Xx thank you
Kate's dress will always be my favorite for sure ☺️
And how clever you are. Katherine, Duchess of Cambridge, continues to grow in style.
Lol.
PlugInKali. She was a STUNNING bride! Had I not worn my personal dream dress that would have been the exact look I'd have wanted.
Not too many people can appreciate 80's fashion and style! But it certainly was an iconic time for just about anything. Fashion, movies, music, etc.
She was married in the 90's not the 80's.
Carolyns look like a silk slip lingerie, too simple and not elegant
@@ingriddubbel8468 I think @PlugInKali 's comment implies that 80's style was still pervasive in the early '90s--I can attest to that having been a bridesmaid in three weddings from 94, 95, and 96. LOADS of lace, bows, and puffy sleeves. So Carolyn's dress drew a line in the sand from all that.
Catherine's dress brought tears to my eyes. My mother's dress from 1956 was nearly identical! So beautiful!!!
One of my faves too. Keira looked so chic on her wedding day.
Love it when brides go the whimsy/offbeat route. Like Jessica Biel's bubblegum pink gown ❤️❤️❤️
That is a popular choice for a Court wedding.
Princess Grace of Monaco .. breathtaking so PERFECT ! 💕
😂😂😂 didnt hear the speech from the priest did you?
MT Hayes I did, but the priest has nothing to do with her dress, lmao.
Also she couldn't outdo Kate's dress as she was not marrying the heir.
I'd rather be scandalous than boring.
My favorite was Grace Kelly, and also Kate Middleton. I didn’t care for Megan’s dress, but I loved her going away dress. Enjoyed the video!
Sherry G Yes yes and yes! I love the Kate/Grace style and Meghan's other dress.
Her going away dress was nice, but not a good choice for someone with her broad shoulders
I loved Kate Middleton’s dress however controversially I thought that Camilla’s dress although not iconic, was so beautiful for a woman of her age
I actually liked Meghan's dress a lot. She had an intricate veil, so a simpler dress suited well.
@@RebeccaTaylorTillery would you actually wear it to your wedding. Just curious 🤔
Megan’s dress was so plain and unimpressive. I was shocked at how awful it was.
100% agree! I just posted the same thing….way to utilitarian to me
My favorite wedding dress is the one my mother wore.
Yeah, that made me remember the dress my mother wore in 1967. I think you could call it a mermaid dress nowadays, god, she looked absolutely divine.
I really liked Princess Eugenie’s dress.
Yes Eugenie’s was stunning!
And her reception dress--she looked like a
Princess warrior Bride
@@beckyfarkas1319 yessss exactly!!!
My favorite too is Kate Middleton and her style in general
👍
Grace Kelly’s is my favorite wedding look of all time. So classic yet detailed. And modest yet stunningly beautiful and most of all just really suited the bride and found that rare balance of covered without swallowing up the bride and still really showing her off.
Same.
Brides are still thinking about that dress when their time comes to choose a dress
I love Solange Knowles' wedding dress. It's very classic and timeless ❤️
@@Tina06019 That's good advice.
My favorite of them all was Princess Mary of Denmark dress. She looked stunning, regal and so elegant.
I think that description fits most modern day Scandinavian royal wedding dresses. They are my favorites.
Kat James It is interesting... I like the simplicity of her dress. Simple and elegant..
$200000 for an ill fitting dress. Money well spent there
Honestly, I love Princess Margaret's dress the best. Simple, elegant and timeless. It was even better than Queen Elizabeth's
it was also very "rounded-shoulder", which was the trend at that time. More modern that Elizabeth's.
I’ve always loved Princess Margaret ‘s dress combined with the tiara and the hairstyle. The dress looked so simple with clean lines.
@@louisericketts6738 Me Too❤
I personally love the story behind Queen Elizabeth's.
I ADORED the way you went; 'she didn't go as a bride, she went as a nymph.' Could you be any cuter?!
Yes, a very insightful comment!
Queen Elizabeth’s wedding dress was absolutely stunning!
Justine your videos are getting better and better!! I love these fashion lists, keep them coming!
DlchMcV
I can only agree with you that Crown Princess Mary had the best royal wedding gown. However I must side with Gary L on the Kilt
I was very appropriate for her farther to wear the Kilt since he is scottish
Agree that Mary's dress was beautiful. The veil was a heritage piece, 100 years old. I think Mary's day was outstanding because she was so happy as well, and despite the poor cut of Meghan's dress, she did look happy. In general I liked Kate's dress but hated the almost Madonna-like conical boobs - it ruined the dress for me, as bad as poor fit. Agree about Angelina's dress. How sad it's promise of a happy family has been otherwise.
But it is the heritage of her! Her culture! So of course her family could have the kilts!
Gary L but she married into the Danish ROYAL family! So I don’t think a Kilt had a place in this event
Love you so much Justine!
I'm being flooded with compliments for my dressing since past couple of months and it's your tips & tricks that helped me. Best part, I didn't shop for anything new!
I'm just wearing clean clothes in solid colours (mostly, very less print/thread work) and accessorising appropriately and pairing them with good shoes!
glad you're happy with your wardrobe choices!!
Justine is awesome!
Me too! Plus downsizing my closet has made all the difference in this world. ❤️
What a lovely comment 😀
My favorite princess wedding dress was Grace Kelly and for avant garde Bianca Jagger
J. Joy I think she couldn’t wear that to the ceremony because the dress was backless. For a wedding like this you have to be covered.
Kara W Yes, I understand why the halter dress wouldn't be allowed for the ceremony. But imo the ceremony dress could have been a little more interesting (not more revealing, just more interesting).
J. Joy I agree. Something else was needed . I was thinking maybe some embroidery on the dress itself.
I agree the sleeves could have been better since she went for an absolutely plain gown.
I thought the fabric choice for the ceremony gown was wrong. Too heavy.
I loved the dresses of the two Kates, Moss and Middleton. Each very different but very appropriate for the individual and the occasion. Lovely video Justine and perfectly timed.
thank you :-)
I must be the only one that loved Meghan’s dress , I thought she really knows what flatters her and the veil was spectacular ❤️💕
Katie Pecotich i really liked it too!!
No I loved it and thought it was perfect and timeless. I might be in the minority. But I was not a fan of Kate's at all.🤷🏾♀️
I thought it was perfection minus the fit which seemed a tiny bit big. But still it was gorgeous to me.
I liked Meghan's dress too, this is her second marriage and wanted a more elegant and simple dress. She looked lovely.
Valerie Smith I loved her dress.
Fun look back in time! Grace Kelly was and still is my favorite, a true class act. However, Kate Middleton is a lovely young woman, and I think she has future queen potential.
Will she automatically be queen when Harry becomes king? Queen Elizabeth‘s husband isn’t, is he? King, I mean. I always wondered why 🙂
Rara Avis - King is a higher title then Queen. Since Elisabeth is Queen regent there can't be someone with higher title
Hello, Rara. A queen or a king is the royal occupying the throne. Their spouses are titled following some rules. A man will be a prince consort and a woman, a queen consort (it was somehow considered inappropriate for a man to get the title of king by marriage, hence the prince).
*Rara Avis* - I think you mean William, not Harry.
Ah, I see!
I never realized that only one part of the royal couple can be regent...makes sense, though.
A tight dress woud have been uncomfortable in that stiff fabric and she would have been/gotten so sweaty on such a sunny day - nobody wants to see a sweaty bride ;) I also would have prefered it tighter on her, but now i understand why it had to be looser - because of protocol and all. ;)
Take a look at Kate's gown. The bodice was fitted to her like a glove. Meghan's gown was just plain poorly fitted.
MM did not make herself history. Harry made her that, but we'll see, all has not been said.......
Her dress looked a white potato sack. It didn’t fit her at all. It was so baggy and not fitted.
Agree! I much preferred Meghan’s second dress instead of the wedding gown. Great video!
I love your channel. Generally, I have no interest in fashion, but you always make it interesting.
Great selection! Some of them are obviously timeless peaces. 👍🤗
Kate Middleton's dress was magical 😍
I loved Princess Anne's wedding dress - quite medieval sleeves and high neck, it really suited her.
I agree. Princess Anne is often overlooked. I agree with you about her dress. Now that's royalty!
I actually liked Meghan's dress- it was elegant and I guess the simplicity reflected the elegance of it. Plus it was very different to Kate's dress.
I agree. I never got the appeal of Kate's dress. I suppose I'm not really a fan of lace and the cut of upper part of the dress.
Yes, those two are very different. I am on team Meghan.

Megan’s dress was TOO big on her. My mom and I both went “No! That’s not a good look. It’s hanging off of her. It’s baggy looking”.
Am I the only one that loves Meghan's dress ? really liked the simplicity of it.
yes nice. but didn't fit her.
she seemed to have lost a lot of weight since it's previous fitting. otherwise it would have been perfect
No, you aren’t alone. I likeed it’s simplicity too
I like the simplicity but it didn't fit her properly.
Same ideea for watches
would be great.
❤
When I watch your videos I begin to understand why I like certain fashion details. It's an amazing gift you have to understand so many different tastes.
I loved the sleeves on Princess Anne's first wedding dress - echoes of the Elizabethan.
Sarabeth boo!
The halter dress was lovely though.
what an interesting point you made...
I agree with the point. I'm a big fan of boxy heavy dresses like the Solange one, I love wearing stiff fabric where it's all about the silhouette, no frilliness whatsoever, so I feel like I should like the dress, but it just doesn't look right.
Grace Kelly’s dress was the dress of all wedding dresses! Just stunning!
I love topics about wedding dresses. 😍 this video makes my heart happy ❤️❤️❤️
Meghan's dress was almost identical to mine. :) That's my pick for favorite.
Hello Justine. What did you think of the minimalist dress of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Very 90’s but also still very modern looking I feel. Definitely my favorite..
the dress was very flattering for her (amazing) figure :-)
Great video as usual Justine so elegant and educational you got me hooked, thank you.
Audrey Hepburn is my favorite. However, I can't separate my love for her and my love for the dress. Love my Sunday morning coffee with you, Justine.
I love Audrey Hepburn's style and not only bridal.
Janice Williams. Audrey Hepburn was a style icon! In every way. ❤
Harry’s wife had a terrible looking wedding dress. It didn’t make her shape look good at all. It was just plain and unimaginative. Now, her veil was nice but that’s all I can say for her outfit. Her reception dress fit her better but the wedding dress sticks in the mind a lot more.
Loved Angelina's veil! So original, and adorable!
I love that shade of blue Justine! More pastels, less black please! 🥰
I loved Solange's dress and the entire 'choreography' of the day! Sublime
Me too! I think the long gown (worn with those fabulous gold cuffs) was her best, but in terms of unforgettable fashion moments, her cream-colored jumpsuit with low u-cut front, open back, and "wings" is what I found most forward-thinking. Ballsy!
Crown Princess Mary of Denmark deserved a mention too, I think. All in all.a good selection, though
I agree with your opinion...
In Meghan's dress, hmm her dress was beautiful but I feel kinda weird on her shoulder to her arms, the fabrics seems not match/fit on her shoulder and it's looks like oversized to me 😅
In my opinion, wedding dress should fit on your body type, it doesnt mean too tight or press body and make you uncomfortable. Just must have to looks more smooth on your body, so when people see it they can tell that your dress is only made for you.
I love Grace Kelly's dress. So modest yet beautiful and timeless (then again it's Grace Kelly wearing it so maybe that has something to do with it).
I liked Meghan's dress, but I get your point.
Hi, Justine! I enjoy a lot the videos where you analyse garments&fashion, like this one. Thanks!!
I also liked Kate Middleton 's dress the most..☺
Me encanta como explicas cada detalle y tu acento es increíble. Felicitaciones por tu canal! Saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱☺️✨✌🏻
