15 mins for changing strings on a guitar with a floyd rose is impressive!!....I used a tremol-no blocker to disable the Floyd rose on my guitar and it still takes me 20 mins to change the string and tune the guitar properly.
That's cool... no reason to rush unless it's for fun or for a challenge!
I can't rush when re stringing. I'm usually jamming out to some music, singing along,playing some air guitar so yeah.lol. I take my time.

Damn 15 minutes! When I change strings on the Floyd I usually take around 30-45 minutes!
I think the next time should be a full set up, strings, action, intonation the whole bit. I can do my guitars on a good day in a hour for all of it. But I’m anal about intonation. I have a peterson strobe tuner I use for my setups so I really try to get it dead nuts on, but that should be the next challenge. Cause I check intonation after every string change incase a saddle moves a tiny bit, or sometimes even if u use the same pack of strings and gauge, sometimes one of the strings will intonate different than the previous pack. But I’d like to see that vid. This time bring in shooter macgavin and HR shovenstuff to narrate lol

9 min 48 seconds .. floyd rose on my dean dimebolt .. we have very similar styles in string changing so yeah man . 10 min is totally doable.. ill time my esp next time I need strings on it.

How often do you polish your frets, and what do you use? My frets always get crusty and I use a polishing compound and a microfiber cloth. I hate taping the frets off but I hate getting the polishing compound on the ebony. Big time fan btw, love your style and have been jamming Chimaira for years.
Awesome man! 👊 And about your question, I can honestly say that I've never polished a single fret in my life. I always just use Dunlop formula 65 on the whole guitar. Top to bottom.
Apparently I watched this and left a comment last year, now you’ve got me twice lol. You never polish your frets? You need to give it a try. I’ve since switched to just 0000 steel wool, that’s what Steve Vai’s tech does and you don’t have to tape anything off. He put a vid out a couple years ago about it. It really makes a huge difference, plays waaaaay better. Haven’t you ever noticed on a brand new guitar the frets always feel better? The only bitch is you have to take all the strings off, which is no fun on a Floyd.
Here's a question.... Chim's "Down Again" video on TH-cam is approaching 1 Million views (900k+). But!!! That video is RoadRunners..... If it reaches that 1mil.... will you see any revenue from said video? I am fascinated with the artist/owner dynamic most musician's don't think about.
We (chimaira) don't make a single cent from any of our music played on TH-cam. It all goes to the label. But, that's just how it is once you sign that dotted line.

probably if you want a kahler fitted trem guitar you should try LTD JH-600

Have you ever tried putting the strings in backwards? As in the ball end at the tuner. I know a tech who strings Flloyds like this, it works awesome and you only have to cut the strings at the bridge, saves a ton of time.
Tried it a couple times, and I know lots of dudes prefer that method. But I've found I like the traditional way best. 🎸

Hey 15 minutes ain’t bad. One of the main complaints about Floyd Rose is that they are such a pain to restring and tune. But it’s not true. I think it’s because they’re intimidating to people that haven’t done it before. I avoided them like the plague for most of my guitar playing life for that reason. Going to film the next time I do it and see how long it takes. Going for a bridge and fingerboard cleaning so I have to take all the strings off at the same time. Might get ugly lol.

@@sampyro765 yeah that’s definitely a time saver with hard tails, but they’re rendered useless in a double locking system like a Floyd Rose. So doesn’t really help with the time in that scenario. They definitely help with tuning stability and saving time not having to wrap the string when it comes to hard tails.
@@IndependenceGuitar i have them installed on my roope latvala and it works great with a floating trem i only use it in Drop b so if you set everything up right from the beginning someone showed me this hack 4 years ago

Now I’m curious how fast I can do it. But when I change my strings, I take forever because I condition my fretboard and clean my frets. How often do you do stuff like that?
I'd say that I leave all the strings on, and just change one at a time 90% of the time. But every 10th time, I'll take all the strings off, so that I can do a complete deep cleaning of the guitar. Or, I'll do that whenever I feel the guitar needs it. Which I guess as I mentioned, is about every tenth change. But everyone is different, with how much oil and sweat their skin produces, and/or in what kind of environment they're playing in. Dusty conditions, smokey conditions, etc... may lead to the need for more frequent cleanings!🎸

Well I tried to beat your time but I did not make it, you have mad skills! LTD Snakebyte Fixed bridge with locking tuners timed at 10:44.29. I also tried a Floyd, LTD KH602 Floyd Rose 1000 with regular tuners, same gauge and tuning so an easy exchange 11:06.41. I'll get you one day, haha! Awesome challenge, cheers!

So I’m using 10-52 for drop C, I’m using a plain 17 for the G, you’re using a 20w, what do you like about that vs a plain string?
I feel like it's rounder, and therefor faster! I've always felt a plain G string almost has a "sqaure-ness" to it, and my pick doesn't glide along it as quickly and as comfortably when up down picking.

how often do you change strings on a working guitar?
I run my finger along the under side of the G string. And when I feel indentations from each fret, I know it's time to change the strings!

@@rzproject123 Sure! I like the feel of fresh strings, so I change often. But I do have guitars sitting around that I only grab once in awhile for certain situations, and the strings on those might be a year or two old. Never any issues!
