    While climbing on a stiff hills (consider moderate road conditions with lots of sharp bends ) which mode is more appropriate ? 4H or 4L or 2H? Please suggest.
    I am new in driving 4x4 vehicle.
    The vehicle I am talking about has part time 4x4 system with 2H,4H & 4L. with integrated mechanical locking differential.
    I noticed extra torque is required in this situation. At the same time, steering feedback is also important to prevent understeer or oversteer

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      4L is normally only used off-road. Use 2H on road in good conditions for better fuel economy, and 4H in poor conditions when you need extra traction 👍🏼

    Thanks for brilliant video. My problem is WHEN to steer round a tight corner and the position of the car on the road. I can never really get everything in smooth synch. I'm thinking I need to be further to the right of my lane before turning and to make the steer a little later? Maybe I'm turning it into rocket science when I doesn't need to be! Any thoughts would be highly valued. Thank you.

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As long as we aren't driving too close to the kerb (we normally like to keep about a metre from the kerb if possible) our back wheel won't scrape the kerb as we turn - so we shouldn't need to change our position before the bend. Everything is easier when we have more time, so slow the car down, and start steering when our front wheels are level with the start of the bend. You can see me doing this in this video: Signalling with our road position: th-cam.com/video/FxhXX0EaI5Y/w-d-xo.html 👍🏼

    Q1. If i steer with right hand more than left but having full control of car, will i fail the test? Feeding with both hands somtimes i find difficult and my right arm is more active than left.
    Q2. Also please let me know in sharp bends the wheel rotates to straight position as we move, is it ok if i use my right hand to control the car. Do i need to be cautious in test about my hands and position?

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The examiner doesn’t care ‘how’ you steer the car - so long as the car is always in the correct position in the road. 👍🏼

    Hi on the bit on urban driving when you had a tight left turn and you used first. If on a road that had a tight left and was approaching in 2nd and knew 1st was better would you try and change gear before the turn or drop clutch but bring it back up as going around as going at a very slow speed ? Thanks in advance and love you videos 😊

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on how tight the corner was, and also if there was an uphill or downhill gradient. For extra control we would engage 1st gear by gently lifting the clutch, and then drive around the corner. When steering around tight corners, i hesitate on putting my foot on the gas due to me being anxious of hitting the other cars coming from the other side of the road and my instructor keeps getting annoyed telling me to put my foot on the gas and keep going and dont because as soon as ive done i have to steer the car straight and then keep the gas going at the same time... Its the coordination of the break to the gas ive got anxiety on and then on long roads and going up hill have to keep the foot on the gas and use more gas my instructor keeps saying im gonna cause an obstruction when the speed limit is 30 and im going 15 and less than that... He said were gonna work on this alot next lesson. Today we went on busier roads and roundabouts and went to the test centre to get a feel for it... Also when on a motorway do you have any tips for actually steering right and not just move the car to the next lane... Road markings on a motorway r a bit confusing i need double reassurance from my instructor fod this as i get panicking

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That kind of problem usually goes away with practice. Try to keep looking at the road ahead, not the steering wheel inside the car! Also, the car always wants to drive straight ahead, and you can feel the wheel try to turn itself to the middle as you steer - this helps you find where straight is 👍🏼

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We should always slow down before the corner (by using the brakes) and then keep a constant speed around the bend by pressing the accelerator lightly. Keeping a steady speed around a bend keeps the car weight balanced and greatly reduces the chance of losing control.

    When we navigate through a curve, are we supposed to position our vehicle on the side of the lane opposite of the direction of the curve? supposed the road is curving to the right...you should take the longer path through the curve and position your vehicle on the left side of your lane?

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool

    This video doesn't mention anything about the MOMENT when you start to turn the wheel when turning a corner. Like for example, my instructor told me that an easy approach is to start steering when the right mirror of our car is aligned with the margin of the car or the corner of the house we want to get around, or the line between road and sidewalk (the one we want to turn) or in case of left turn, to start turning the wheel when our mirror reach the central axis of the road.

    what happens if your car has four wheel steering?

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cars with four wheel steering are driven in the same way as a normal car. At low speeds the rear wheels turn a little the opposite way to the fronts, for increased manoeuvrability, and at higher speeds the rear wheels turn a little in the same direction as the front wheels, for increased stability. From the drivers seat though, just steer as normal :-)

      Yes - although having your phone number printed outside on both sides of the car stops you getting too carried away!

    Steering around a tight corner should not be a problem, as long as you slow down and take your foot off the accelerator while cornering and only apply the accelerator when out of the corner and on the straight.

    I can't help but notice that you take corners really slow and overal drive really slow. Is this for filming purposes? In Belgium you instantly fail if you drive 5 km/h below the speed limit (unless the situation does not allow for driving the speed limit)

      We drive slowly for tight corners, but faster when it is safe to. The camera does make everything look further away, so gives a different perception of speed. It is also possible to fail the U.K. test for driving too slowly, so drivers should ‘make progress’ when safe 👍🏼

    My dad let me drive his car yesterday on a private road full of potholes and I punctured the front tyre on the drivers side which wasn’t really my fault as the potholes were everywhere and unavoidable

      Next time drive slower, as this will reduce the impact from the potholes. Sometimes we slow right down to walking pace if necessary!

      @@AdvanceDrivingSchool if only I knew that plus I’d have more gears to play with, also it’s good practice for clutch control too as I’ve gone rusty, btw love your videos

      Never ever cross your arms unless you want to fail for driving test
