  • @tagrav
    @tagrav ปีที่แล้ว +1

    a tip for electrical taping is to put the first layer down backwards, this keeps the goop off the wires and is a more secure connection. it will last longer and look better and be easier to service.

      Thanks man, I've now moved on towards fiber tape as it doesn't leave a gross residue over time and has a cool texture (although not /as/ waterproof) 👍

    Great work! I am thinking you should just make the battery box out of hardened plastic with the same graphics you used on the rest of the bike. I use a resilient type called High Impact Polystyrene Plastic. I usually vacuum form it to the shape I want. Tough as nails and comes out with a super smooth surface finish. You could accent the edges with the hex mounting bolts you used on other projects. That would look so good. If you have access to a vacuum former you can create any shape you want.

    • @hightech-lowlife
      @hightech-lowlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man!! Yeah, that is a good idea, you could even make one out of Kydex which would be easily formable and extremely strong! Honestly had I known this bag was going to give me so many issues I would have just made my own battery 'box' instead, but I can be pretty stubborn 😎 I will be experimenting more with custom battery boxes in the future. I appreciate the feedback!

    Man you put so much effort into this, really inspiring!! You are very talented!! Im at a fork in the road. I know i can get much more power going diy with an ebike build but i also can just put one together and go. really been looking at the zooz but 3k is steep for only 1100w..

    • @hightech-lowlife
      @hightech-lowlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much man!! Yeah, the thing that really encouraged me to DIY is the ability to get a lot more power and range for a lot less. Convenience is expensive, but you also get a warranty and service (usually). 👍

    Looking forward to the final vid. Does this hub motor have a torque arm or is that axle and dropouts able to handle the power ?

    • @hightech-lowlife
      @hightech-lowlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I have not added any torque arms, and so far I have not had any issues with the dropouts, even with wheelies, etc. The BMX dropouts are pretty beefy, compared to MTB dropouts, this is about the limit (or beyond) that I would install on a 'regular' bike frame.

      @dorkydicken ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hightech-lowlife idk I have a 20" inch rear hub motor as well and need the sprocket pictured in the thumbnail. Is it the new one, that attaches to the hub and the screw on groove measures out to be 34mm? I bought this bike used and that's one of the parts it needs, then when I flip the wheel he said I'd need to rewire it. Other then that working good, Hurst want to be able to pedal as well. It's the same hub as yours it appears 1500w and work both enough battery can be tricked into thinking it's a 3000w.

    • @hightech-lowlife
      @hightech-lowlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much I appreciate it! The laser is an invaluable tool. This one is pretty expensive (www.epiloglaser.com/laser-machines/minihelix-techspecs.htm) but it was purchased a long time ago. There are quite a few cheaper options now available, I'm pretty sure you can get a comparable one for under 1k these days.

  • @TheRealLadyStark
    @TheRealLadyStark 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    so i know this is 2 years old so this might not get seen, but I'm delving into this and I'm trying to understand how the chain still functions while under full throttle? Doesn't the wheel spinning so fast prevent the chain from being able to engage and spin the axel faster? or am i not understanding this correctly?

    • @hightech-lowlife
      @hightech-lowlife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, it's too fast to engage the freewheel at any speed over 15mph really. You can change the gear ratio, but for speeds like this it's not really feasible.

The cutouts would probably need to be tweaked to your specific frame and they're pretty simple shapes, pretty easy to do with some cardboard though to find the right size/shape. 👍I do have my email on site, it's just encoded in a way to prevent spam bots, but easy to figure out for a human 🌟- check out the "contact" button in the upper right.
