"Shorty" Sneade's custom Rifleman sported the head of a Phoenix Hawk, the right arm of a Warhammer, the left torso and arm of an Archer, and the chest and legs of a Rifleman. It was one of the original "Franken-mechs".
The image on the box is probably Rhonda Snord's Highlander, which was painted that colour. The Snord's Irregulars have no set colour scheme, so probably paint their mechs whatever they want.
Rhonda painted her mech pink. She was also known to blast Rock music from speakers mounted on the side of the head of her Highlander. Could the extra parts be speakers?
Maybe it's just me being a total weirdo, but I knew I had to buy this the moment I saw it featured a reproduction of Snord's Frankenmech. Love the new minis, and your format is the best to showcase them! Now I hope CGL will start to offer boxes with additional parts to interchange in the future. Just imagine how cool it would be to buy a box containing, say, a Catapult and you get arms for the K2 and C1 version. Or a Marauder where you can drop in a RAC on top. Could be pretty swell.
So in the Macross mech the Rifleman was based on, the big panel at the front is a sensor system, and the cockpit is directly below the radar. It doesn't have a clear canopy, just a hatch at the front and the pilot only uses screens to see the outside world so it's not obvious and while the hatch was visible on the Ral Partha Rifleman mini, it was just a little bump. As a result fans started painting that big strip as the cockpit on their Rifleman minis and it became codified as a thing when FanPro did the reseeens and Chris Lewis clearly put the redesigned Rifleman's cockpit at the front and now the new design team has kept it up. The FrankenMech dates back to the FASA days and whoever came up with the idea was presumably either familiar with the Destroid Defender's line art or assumes that the head was the little bit underneath the radar dish and replaced it with the Phoenix Hawk head. The version with the radome instead of the Phoenix Hawk head is an ilClan-era upgrade piloted by one of Sneede's descendents.
Depending on the era Shorty's frankenmech mech ORIGINALLY had the phoenix hawk head but it was later removed and the original cockpit utilized which is why you have it being detachable :) so depending on what version of the mech you are running in your lance you can run the PH cockpit or not if you want to be era correct :)
Luv the videos, as always thank you all. The old school battletch should stay in their own era, but they need to keep us old farts engaged with OG nostalgia. It's you guys that make these remodernizations of legendary original cannon entertaining, thanks again. the Aaron & Thom show always great, need some color commentary from Dan ;)
As a fire mandrill and blood spirit collector I was so happy to see a new spartan sculpt! It’s very very nice which is impressive since it has a strong SLDF egg of doom ances😢
Haven't seen these locally yet unfortunately, and prices for the packs seem to be going up. I can't justify more than $10 AUD per mech at retail vs 3D printing, although I'll grab them on sale. If I get this pack I'll have to figure out a way to get both variants of the Frankenmech sorted with the optional missile launch and rifleman antenna as well (magnets under the paint? BluTack on clear coat?). I'm more used to printing variants than old school kitbashing these days, but I love the options.
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming I think its supposed to go into the slots on the back of the Guillotine like with the big smoke plume. Being so small they seem to have molding problems or at least mine do anyway and they didnt fit. Ive seen some people glue them to the LRM launcher on the Frankenmech as a missile launch fire effect which looked pretty cool
This mech pack is so cool because it has a totally unique mech in shorty's frankenmech as well as my fav mech being the Guillotine I love it! (So sad that neither of these mechs has ever been in any of the mechwarrior computer games)
The Franken-rifleman, I assume the original rifleman cockpit was decimated and unusable. Likely just plated over and jerry-rigged to work through the Phoenix Hawk cockpit.
I'm pretty sure they totally reused that box art by recoloring the 'Mechs. It's a Snord Highlander shooting a Marik Militia 'Mech. If my friend paints up his box in canon pink, I'm painting up a force in metamucil orange to counter him.

Lore: Mediums make up the majority of forces
CGL: Best I can do is another Highlander
haha

Death From Above killing it as per usual!

I would love “bits” to mix n match on mechs!!
I like how the Spartan looks. I find the head very interesting. New sculpt is also a big upgrade from the old artwork. Cheers gentlemen.

If I'm not mistaken, Rhonda's Highlander was painted pink, and she blasted rock music via loud speakers while she killed you.
That’s so metal
I think her canonical mech is a 732, but this version has a huge gun instead of the LRM, so what variant is that supposed to be?
Little known fact: Sneed Snord was the space flute player in Jabbas palace at the beginning of Return of the Jedi. Crazy stuff.
Sounds like a cross over episode is needed

Great video! Looking forward to more videos.

Haha yah the Spartan sculpt is very slick!!

It is *criminal* that Snord's Irregulars don't have a Penetrator. Try shouting *SNORD'S PENETRATOR!* sometime. It's a hoot.
The really small bits are to show the ignition of the jumps jets before the mech takes off.
But where do they go!? Haha I couldn’t figure it out

@LordHadesGuy thank you!!
@@DeathfromAboveWargaminghe's wrong its missiles firing

Snord Irregulars. Because why not?
I know it's Rhonda Snord's Highlander, but anyone confused at Purple on Purple violence isn't familiar with FWL history.
lol!
