    The image on Sarna (from the ilClan recognition guide) has the Crab's cockpit right down the front under the armoured cowling, next to the medium laser.

    The scientific term for the "chicken leg" type legs with the backwards bend is called "digitigrade" while the more human like forward bending knee bits is call "plantigrade", although I don't know if that applies to robots lol.

      To round it out, you have "ungulates" which walk on their bonded tiptoes, which we more commonly call "hooves". Only a handful of 'Mechs have feet like this, probably the most prominent one being the Stalker.
      I guess does apply to BattleMechs, even if only in a retroactive sense.. the 'Mechs' legs are clearly designed to work like the biological analogs, after all.

    I really like the design of the Mongoose. It's up there with the Raven as one of my favourite light mechs. I don't like many light mechs.
    I can't for the life of me think of a medium class trash can/egg mech... I need something to go between the Urbanmech and the Flashman... (also need a redesign of the Imp.)

  • @brianhenry152

    These are all great mechs! The Crab is a great medium workhorse in any era, and I love, love, love the Mongoose as a fast moving scout and artillery spotter. I also like the new sculpt of the Guillotine as well, and it's basically a slight variation stat-wise from the Grasshopper. The only one that I'm lukewarm on is the Lancelot, even though it's pretty solid. When compared to the rest, it just seems to be outshined. Wish I'd gotten my hands on this pack, but now I've definitely added it to my wishlist!
    Great job guys! Can't wait for the next batrep. The sneak peek on Patreon looks awesome!

    This has some of my favorite 'Mechs from the KS, but it also has some that I just don't really like much.
    I've loved the Mongoose since the ice-planet missions in MW2M, where you run a patrol at some point that encounters a hostile Mongoose. I always found it to be an especially dangerous opponent for that early in the campaign. The CCG also had great art. Whenever I look at tweaking the Mongoose I end up deciding that it's pretty much ideal as-is. The sculpt is great, too.
    The Crocket is one of the most improved sculpts. The original IIRC is super boring, but somehow they managed to make the thing look chunky, tough, and intimidating. It might be on my short list for most improved (Crusader wins easily, of course, but the Sentinel is also competitive). Lore-wise, the thing was a common trainer ride, but it was slowly dying out until ComStar fed a bunch to the Combine (with accidental LosTech included).
    The Crab is an excellent 'Mech and one of my favorite MWO rides. It rolls damage incredibly well and has solid performance even without access to LosTech (though Double Heat Sinks do help). I think the cockpit is traditionally under the shell. I love the meatier claws that look like they could take hits and protect the lasers from damage. It's another 'Mech that's hard to optimize, especially with 3025 tech.
    The Lancelot has never been a favorite of mine. It's always looked super derpy, and the new sculpt is no exception. It's also utterly reliant on advanced tech to function, with the LosTech version having to sacrifice way too much heat capacity and armor in order to maintain its speed and alpha strike capacity.
    The Guillotine has always felt like a Grasshopper variant to me, that swaps the LRM for an SRM. I've always thought the searchlight perched on top to be kind of silly, but the new sculpt is a solid improvement IMO.
    The Flashman has a name that has inspired countless jokes. Its egg shape has also brought more than its fair share of Urbanmech-adjacent memery. I love the concept as an energy-only zombie brawler, and the new sculpt takes it from a Humpty Dumpty Murder Disco design to a much more wicked-looking aesthetic (I love the way it looks like it's glaring at you). It makes me even more interested in an eventual Imp resculpt.
    Both ComStar boxes are excellent and, as part of a Kickstarter Reward Level, were the best value picks available. It's also really nice that you can build a full company just with the two Level IIs.

  • @ShimmeringSword
    @ShimmeringSword 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Unfortunately the colorist error'd the cockpit on the card art. The glass is that entire smooth shape instead of just the lower parts of it. We do our best to put a clear frame/edge around the glass. It only gets a little weird on mechs like the Lancelot where it's an entire section/shape and the "edge" is the shape change rather than a recession or more obvious frame. There shouldn't be any mech in this new line where there is zero surface change between glass and armor.

    Love the new crocket sculpt. I actually want to play it now, instead of keeping it hidden from everyone out of embarrassment. Not going to lie, I miss the shoulder pads of the older Guillotine. It reminded me of the armor from Dragon Ball Z, but I still can appreciate the new sculpt!

      Apparently the idea was that the Crockett's weapons loadout was similar to the Warhammer, and so Anthony Scroggins incorporated it into the redesign, making it look like a development of the prior mech

    Honestly the Comm star Level 2s are fantastic deals. Two boxes and you have an entire company of mechs by normal IS standards and they're *all* solid.
    As far as cycling out old stuff... I'm keeping my Iron Wind star in rotation I think. It's a special thing I picked up while working for Battlefront Miniatures because I was so pumped about the new Iron Wind Sculpts. Now we have these new plastics and they're even better! And so damn affordable. Like. Sure you can spend a ton on Battletech, I certainly went in big on the KS, and with some vehicle and infantry purchases from GHQ, I have an IS regiment and a Clan cluster. But I spent a pittance on all that, formations so large I can't possibly field them IRL. Even in Alpha Strike. Comparable to Apocalypse level formations in 40k... and I wasn't close to truly going in "heavy" on the KS like the Khans.

    The peak ComStar vibe in this box amuses me more than I probably should admit. In my opinion the change from the classic Guillotine cockpit design was a good choice. I'm well aware that the original FASA idea was to evoke an executioner's hood, but not for nothing did our FWL guy often get ragged on for bringing his "Laser Gimp" to the table (for the record, do not paint classic Guillotine heads in gloss black if you're not ready for jokes at your expense).

    -Never count the Mongoose out. its a beautiful little speedster I get a lot of mileage out of.
    -new Crab looks good.
    -Lancelot looks weird.....till you pop the AC20 ammo on a Cyclops with it. Fast, and stick with the OG Lancelot.
    -Pair a Guillotine with a Grasshopper for a brutal combo. 'Hopper softens them up, and the Guillotine uses its medium lasers and SRM for crit seeking once its open.
    Flashman is a nice mech, but it needs fire planning to shine. I'd pair it with a Royal griffin to stick within an ECM bubble.
    Crockett looks nice- more the Katana styling than the OG Crockett. Last time I had it out- lost it to a Gauss Rifle explosion.

    • @kereminde
      @kereminde 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "Never count the Mongoose out."
      Pairs well with heavier things which LOOK more dangerous while the Mongoose gets behind you and shreds rear armor. Or vehicles. Or just goes for objectives in an objective-control mission.

    Between the Level 2s was looking forward to this one less, but after getting to try a Crocket was rather impressed with it reminds me of the Banshee 3s. Crab is one of the best skirmishers ever done. Mongoose is as good as the Jenner as far as scout and scout hunter fast flanker. Guillotine I out of every new model they did this is the only one I hated. The shoulders was so Iconic otherwise its one of my favorite heavy strikers. Lancelot I never liked, completely glass chin.

  • @TinBane
    @TinBane 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a soft spot for the lancelot. Unfortunately it’s not great when using BV, like any fast heavy it over-pays for speed, and the heat is unmanageable until you get DHS builds. I think fluff-wise if you think of comstar running around with DHS-original lancelots, and fluff wise they are competing with griffins/shadowhawks/wolverines, that’s why they should be scary in the fluff.
    BV wise they spend too much on speed, the load-out is mixed ranges, and large lasers are bad weapons. They’d be better with a bunch of medium lasers or lpls instead maybe. In terms of designs, i prefer the allan blackwell design with the flashmane style laser arms. I think there’s a model of it out there!
    I quite like the changes to the guillotine, the old shoulders were… distinctive. But would look even more out of place against the new cgl designs.

    I guess you could put them side by side and call the old one the regular Crab 27 and the new one the Crab 27b for the SLDF Royal Blackwatch version...
    These new designs overall are pretty neat, but this collection of mechs isn't really my thing. I'd love to get the Crab and the Guillotine, but that hardly warrants the whole box tbh. Still great value!

    I agree with Thom the MWO crab is where its at, hands down my favorite iteration of the design, its beefy proportional the claws are clampy mayhem cockpit is well defined, all around just well put together. The iron wind and catalyst ones just dont do it for me. But other mechs like the archer i prefer the catalyst design.
    Crabs are just so hard to take out the best way to do it is to shave half your pubes off, then light the other half on fire then you can stab them when they try to run across.
