I don't think any other game has such a stable lore to it than Battletech.
As far as I know every game such as 40k has had their lore redone or altered at least twice while BT hasn't.
@@valor1omega In fairness, 40k lore hasn't been redone post Rogue Trader so much as "added onto"... while BT has done the same thing (looking at you Jihad and Dark Age). BT has better centralized lore than 40k though (mostly because the Sphere is a LOT smaller/more interconnected than the 40k galaxy).

I literally think there is more lore for BattleTech than Star Trek and Star Wars combined and I'm not even joking. If you spend much time on Sarna, it's a rabbit hole you'll never come back from.
ED: Starting with the FWL is pretty awesome. They never got the spotlight they deserved. Everything from the Jihad up is trash, though.

@@LoreReloaded I missed it somehow! I'll definitely check the back catalogue. Either way great video. FWL has a very interesting history and most people from the video games only know FedSuns and LA. I'd love to see a breakdown of what went wrong with the Jihad some day, I feel like the Word of Blake had the FWL PERFECTLY positioned to be used as a puppet state, made powerful by trade and being untouched by war, and instead just.. shot all that in the foot abruptly. I really don't like where Dark Ages took the timeline.
This is my jam. Love BattleTech. Used to be sooooo involved. Was so happy when they canonized me over 15 years ago... Sad when I died in the Jihad. Man, there must have been something about that 1970s/1980s era that really lent itself to unbelievably extensive world-building. Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Warhammer 40K, D&D, Battletech, Alien, The Silmarillion, the Wheel of Time... It's kind of amazing how many series were either introduced or had a huge infusion of deep lore around that time.
well battletech was 'cheap' to make since it was at least initially an asset flip from Macros, so they just needed to make up a story to fit the artwork they were getting from the already established franchises
@@AsbestosMuffins It was a bit more involved than just making up a simple story. (And they didn't just draw from Macros, either). As a start, in relation to this video, you can find a pdf of the House Marik sourcebook online. Its 168 pages cover centuries of history for the Free World's League, its military organization, government, culture, and more. FASA made similar sourcebooks for each of the other main realms, and for the Star League which proceeded them. There were a lot of other materials, too. There were smaller sourcebooks for other organizations, like mercenary units. There were update books, to show changes as time passed. There was a book which listed all the military factories, and what was made at each one. Not just completed mechs and tanks, mind you, but components. So if you wanted to know which factory produced a specific model communications array, you could find it. And then there were all the novels. So yes, world building was huge in Battletech. Doing all that was not cheap. And little of it contributed directly to game play.

It is all so deep it is hard find where to start. The history is deep and mostly complete, you do not have to suspend your beliefs to fallow the stories and characters, it is a deep and rich universe. If fasa had kept the property and not gave in to the dark age I Tully believe we would have gota a movie or show by now. A show would be awesome like on Netflix or Amazon or like.
I have always believed that BTech’s history and lore is far more developed and diverse than even Star Wars.. The Age of War. The Reunification War. The Hidden Wars during the Star League. The Amaris Coup. The Four Succession Wars. The Clan Invasion. The FedCom Civil War. The Jihad. The Republic Era. The Dark Ages. Now the ilClan is soon coming. So much diversity in such a great game.

It's suprising that a group within the League military never decided to just eliminate the entire Merrick lineage in a coup.
House Marik held the loyalty of the military. It was rival provincial powers they had to worry about.

I have to say Glad to see you Touching on Battletech Again. Especially as a lot of this is really interesting and fascinating law and world-building is pushed aside by many because they think it's nothing but big stumpy robots. Hopefully, the franchise becomes more popular over time and you're helping with that. Also, one thing I was wondering if you could tackle some of the more interesting nuances of the setting. For example why Monarchy and hereditary nature have returned to humanity. I only have my opinions but it would be really interesting to see your analysis and your takes on it. Maybe even comparing it to Star Trek.
Either way, I can't wait to see what You tackle next in my newest Addicti- I mean fandom.

i think mechwarrior is one of those scifis id like to live in overall. border worlds are hellish, and democracies are rare. but i think i could live a happy life on most worlds. as long as i wasnt cappellan, i am against being backstabbed

It's good it see Lore Reloaded expanding beyond Star Trek. Battletech is... not bad, actually, but I would be very, VERY interested in seeing LR cover some of the more popular fantasy RPG settings, like Forgotten Realms or even the lore of Magic the Gathering (believe it or not, there is a lot of fluff beyond the cards themselves, these days).

...Please don't take that as an insult, BTW, because that's not how I meant it: it really is an *incredibly* detailed setting, and it's always awesome to see someone getting into it for the first time. I can't even talk about how deep this rabbit hole goes, because it's not just _one_ rabbit hole. By the point in the setting's history where this video ends, there's at least a half-dozen relevant factions that haven't even been formed yet, and we're still generations before we get to the Amaris Coup and the Star League Civil War that event caused.

Also, combine as a noun has the emphasis on the first syllable and Ares is pronounced the same as Aries.
