Gareth Edwards is a perfect fit to make a Jurassic Park/World movie, I’m very excited for this and hope he brings his sense of scale that make all his movies feel massive into the Jurassic Franchise.

Agree on Jurassic Park: The Lost World. Miles better than any of the 3 Jurassic Worlds.
Gareth is a good director but he needs a good writer and script. Hope Koepp delivers something Michael Crichton would be proud of.

This is great news. Monsters and Godzilla are full of Jurassic Park references and the tonal style of Gareth Edwards directing is perfect for a Jurassic movie. With David Koepp writing the script and this news that Gareth Edwards will be directing, I feel really positive about this. I’m already more excited about this than I was for any of the Jurassic World movies.

Great choice! I always thought Godzilla 2014 was a bit underrated and in a way felt more jurassic than the recent world movies, the way he frames his movies and gives everything a sense of scale and can do suspense i think this could be something special!

Which is not an accomplishment since Toho did those kind of movies way before the Monsterverse, and they’re way better. Gareth Edwards doesn’t seem much of an improvement over Colin Trevorrow, and I already have some major red flags given the short production time and the set release date.

Technically the monsterverse is one of these accidentally born children since it truly became a thing when legendary were planning a King Kong movie with universal, and later decided to mash it with their Godzilla film to a new franchise.
Regarding him directing the next Jurassic- I too think his Godzilla film wasn't perfect, but after seeing the route legendary chose I think it's the best one (alongside Kong skull island). So I'm cautiously optimistic

Sorry but saying that Gareth is the sole reason why Godzilla is loved is like spitting in the face of all the Japanese artists & creative teams who have been through thick & thin with Godzilla since the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and even the 2000s. Without them making Godzilla a lovable franchise, the IP would've been gone before Edwards could get his hands on it.

Very good choice, wasn't my 1st choice, but that was because, somehow, his name eluded me (1st choice was Dan Trachenberg) but had I thought of Edwards he would have been the top choice too. With him at the helm I'm certain we can all look forward to a great Jurassic Movie for the 1st time since The Lost World. The tone, suspense will be back to how it should be. The 'World" trilogy were ok at best but Dominion especially just didn't fell like a jurassic movie, plus I felt Trevorow's writing wasnt up to scratch either, but with Koep back and Edwards directing, the next movie will be a vast improvement on the last 4 we got.

The blame for "Godzilla 2014" emotional shift from Joe Brody to Ford Brody is 100% on Frank Darabont's revision/rewrite of Max Borenstein's script and story. Darabont altered the narrative to be told from a ". . . soldier's point of view. . .". Other changes in Darabont's pass included: Godzilla was discovered frozen in ice in the wilds of Siberia. Joe survived to the film's end; Ford wasn't married with a son of his own, but had a sister who was a nurse. Dr. Serizawa (actually 'Honda' in the script) and Adm. Stenz' pocket watch scene aboard the Saratoga, ran longer (and was a heart-breaking statement on Hiroshima). After Godzilla breaches the Golden Gate, the male MUTO (Hokmuto) and the military battle on Alcatraz Island which eventually spills over to the Embarcadero area of San Fran. .... You can read and download Borenstein's final draft script if you need proof of any of this.

Agree on TLW! It’s easily the BEST Jurassic Park sequel and my favorite movie of all time; tied with Jurassic Park. Also, the news of Gareth Edwards directing is quite promising. I feel he is a much better fit to the Jurassic franchise and is passionate and knowledgeable about JP’s themes, narratives, and overall story beats. I would love to see Jurassic 7 be a breakout hit when it comes to plot and characters, an area where the Jurassic World films sadly missed in my opinion. Now, let’s hope he and Universal select and hire an awesome cinematography; say Janusz Kamiński!? :) Also, we desperately need good animatronics back in this franchise ! I worry that there isn’t enough time but maybe there could be if this film has a more intimate story with less species of dinosaurs… Does Legacy Effects deserve another shot? I’m cautiously optimistic, yet again, for Jurassic World IV.

Based on his previous work I do think he can at least get the vibe right and Koepp can obviously write a good script. Whether they will and if it ends up becoming a great movie remains to be seen. But I do have some concerns, including what direction they can still take the story in, given the imposed limitations as well as 6 preceding movies.
Primarily I'm concerned about them rushing it though. I don't really get the rush for summer 2025. Nobody was really expecting a new movie this soon anyway, as the last one was supposed to close the franchise for the time being. So why rush now? I'd prefer them to take their time and make sure they have something great in their hands. Preferably leveraging the strengths of practical effects to maximum effect as well.

1.) Gareth was my first non-Spielberg choice to helm this and I'm elated to find out that Amblin and Spielberg himself agrees.
2.) Sometimes it takes the biggest of missteps to find what isn't working and make the right corrections. Some of the best things in art and life come about this way.
3.) I think we should all take one huge breath and let Trevorrow's trilogy out of our systems. We're getting our beloved Jurassic Park back.
Steven Spielberg, David Koepp and Gareth Edwards are bringing the franchise back home after a decade and a half of abandoning it and a decade of mistreating it. It sounds dramatic and/or silly, but it feels like the fandom can heal and I think the World trilogy will age quite poorly if this upcoming film is as good as it's likely to be. Let's take the time to be mindful of this moment in the franchise's history and be thankful that the brand is being treated with this kind of respect and reverence. It's hard to describe in words how overwhelmingly good it feels to hear the news of Gareth's involvement.

This may work. As a writer/director, the results are mixed for Edwards.
Godzilla was eh and the universe it has spawned is just trough food for the non-thinking masses.
His work on Rogue was ditched by Lucas and he was forced to watch actual good writer Tony Gilroy try to salvage the veering ship. He was director in name only. His experience there put him in director semi-jail for five years, until The Creator. There, he directed a fine showcase for cheap and efficient vfx, unfortunately the story he wrote was severely lacking.
So, hopefully Koepp can make up. Honestly, I just want something smartly written that emulates Crichton’s techno-thriller writings of decades past. I will wait to see the final product like all other JP fans.

@@ethandoyle4978 experience doesn’t automatically mean good. Look at John R Leonetti as an example. Gareth Edwards has made some good independent films and questionable big budget films. If you compare him to Colin Trevorrow, it’s the exact same problem. Gareth Edwards is also kind of a yes man similar to Bret Ratner, and I’m afraid you’re not gonna get a better quality product given Universal’s track record. Plus, they have to get this kind of movie done within a single year. That seems kind of rushed, which gives me JP3 flashbacks. If you people think he’s a good director and that this is a good thing, then boy oh boy do you need to do more research, not get hyper excited, and not keep dismissing criticisms since they’re’s always a more likely chance that this film will not be good. The last time we got a legitimately good Jurassic Park sequel was 1997, and this is the 7th film in this franchise that has mostly bad quality films. You folks really need to lower your expectations.

My issue is still that universal is more concerned to get the movie out as soon as possible, and their focus is not to make a good movie. If the script is locked, perfect and good, well great! I still think the release date should come last, it's way to short of a deadline for any director to take on, and make it not look and feel rushed. I think whoever directs should have their say in design, storyboard and all that as well. They apparently have already started that without a director. I mean, have they forgotten the amazing Malcolm quote during the dinner scene in Jurassic park? It's baffling to me.. Here is another from TLW: "now you'r John Hammond" I think the JW trilogy was a mistake. I hope they go back and tell a PARK story. Or within that timeline. I don't see how you could continue and save the franchise at this point, the way they left everything in JW. They all make no sense to me.. how was there a open park in the first place with everything that happened in JP 1-3? So many questions. To me. There is no such thing as Jurassic 4-6. Maybe let the franchise breathe a bit at least. Or don't do it at all an we all get disappointed. The fact that they considered the previous director concerns me greatly on the direction they want to take the franchise. Why was he considered at all. Sorry for the long post. It's a passionate subject for me!

So, they went from a director with not much experience, to a director with not much experience. This is an improvement?!
Uhhhh, I don’t think so! In fact, Im convinced that this isn’t much of an improvement to go from Colin Trevorrow, to Gareth Edwards. They’re both independent directors who were hired to do big budget films of questionable quality. I swear to god they’re just gonna end up making the same exact mistakes, and they’re rushing this film out on a set date with very little time.
It just doesn’t give me any confidence or faith that the outcome will be any different and/or better given all the red flags. Perhaps if they gave them more time, slowed things down so they can make the proper precautions, hire a far better director with a more competent track record like Joseph Kosinski, and push the release date back a bit to allow more breathing room and give it a release that’s more workable & logical, then maybe this film could turn out waaaaaay better.
But, they won’t do that. They’re not interested in being smart. They wanted to hire s director that they can control, so they hired a yes man who will do what the studio tells him to, which means we’re not getting an artistic expression, we’re getting a cash grab that’s being rushed into production with a short time window to work with compared to the past 6 films. And as is, this isn’t a good sign.
This is Jurassic Park 3 all over again, which is a coincidence given the rushed production and the July 2025 release date.

The lighting was too dark, they kept cutting away from all the monster fights, Godzilla was barely on screen for most of the film, and they committed the cardinal sin of killing off the best character in the film within the first 20 minutes, leaving us with bland characters for the majority of the film. Yeah, it’s bad. Especially when you compare it to both Shin Godzilla and Godzilla: Minus One which are leagues better than all of the Monsterverse films combined.
Rogue One was also pretty bad. Just because it’s better than the Sequel Trilogy doesn’t automatically make it a good film either. And if you compare him with Colin Trevorrow, they’re both exactly the same: independent directors with little experience who’ve eventually made big budget films of questionable quality. The only difference is that Gareth Edwards seems to be a bit of a yes man like Bret Ratner. Which is not a good sign since he won’t have his own vision. You know what actually saved Godzilla and made him relevant again? Shin Godzilla & Godzilla: Minus One. They wanted to course correct after hiring an independent film director like Colin Trevorrow, only to hire an independent film director like Gareth Edwards who is more of a yes man while Colin Trevorrow wasn’t.
How exactly is that better? It really does sound like it’s a bad idea. Especially when you consider the fact that A) David Koepp hasn’t written many good films in recent years and also has a decline in quality in his writing and B) they have to film and wrap up post production before being released in July 2025, which is gonna feel rather rushed given the short time frame……which is how we got JP3 which btw also had a July release date.
