  • How to salt preserve Squid Bait for fishing.
    Instead of throwing out your unused bait, salt preserve it and reuse it.
    You can salt preserve squid and also most baits so it doesn't need freezing and can be kept in your Boat or Tackle box.
    It preserves and Hardens the Bait, and intensifies the scent for more fish

    What are the benefits of salting the bait ? Thanks

    • @FishingwithTrev
      @FishingwithTrev  ปีที่แล้ว

      No need to freeze or refrigerate, Keep in your Boat or Tackle box !!!
      It toughens and Preserves the bait as well as intensifies the scent

    Is that asthma you got? Try Advair and montelukast. Damn it sounds like you’re struggling there.

    how long would you recommend leaving it out without refrigeration etc

    • @FishingwithTrev
      @FishingwithTrev  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At room temperature I have had it packed in salt for 3 months in my boat as long as it is packed in salt at room temperature it should last quite a long time

    Where do you get your large squid?

      I bought those locally for the video, but I get them out at the marina.

    Can you do this to whole squid? Would it be too thick? I want to catch adult leopard shark by using bait that the little guys can’t swallow.
    Also, I wonder if anyone has tested the iodine advice or if it just an idea that passes from one fish man to the next? I heard of someone using iodinated salt with no problem. It probably makes sense to avoid iodine when convenient even if it hasn’t been put through a controlled study.
    Your fame has spread widely. I’m watching from the other side of the world...

      If you try salting Whole Squid be sure to get salt into the hood of the squid to ensure it pernitrates as much as possible.
      I haven't tried iodized salt as the Old Guy I learnt it from many years ago said not to use it as he said the fish don't like it .

    How do you handle the bucket of salt after its wet? Seems like a waste to throw it out. Do you just dry it in the sun and reuse?

    • @FishingwithTrev
      @FishingwithTrev  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      After I use the salt I put it on a plastic tray out in the sun to dry I've used the same salt 10 to 12 times

    Why not use iodised salt?

      The fish don't like it - it puts out a different scent.

    Do you actually have to go through all the effort of cutting them? Why not just salt the whole thing ?

    • @FishingwithTrev
      @FishingwithTrev  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I cut them just to make sure that everything is covered in salt possibly there is no need to as long as you got some salt up the tubes of the squid

      I cut mine into bait size pieces and soak with Soy or Oyster sauce. Work's brilliantly for Sea bream.

      No i meant you said germs its bacteria wich decomposes but no wotries your video is great and i did an experiment with iodized and non iodized salted baits fish go for both actually caught more off the iodized sea salt and shrimp but either way the salt preserves will not allow bacteria to take hold
