This is a great technique to preserve baits for a long boondock camping trip. I do this quite often because some of my campsite locations are quite a ways away from Civilization

I use pool salt from the green shed and a soldering iron to make the holes in plastic as drill bits can and will crack the plastic
Thanks for watching and I like the soldering iron idea.
pool salt is the best, table salt isn't pure...!
Very good Thanks.Houhora NZ
Thanks for watching and the positive feedback, much appreciated.

Thanks for watching and the positive feedback. Much Luv Daz
Nice you got those smart wives down there in AU too! Good video I use kosher salt not table salt
Cheers Bro, thanks for watching.
Put them on a tray and freeze them before putting them in the bag, that way they won't stick together.
I like it, good idea.
Where did you store the fish overnight? Did you put it in a cooler or leave it out?
I left on the floor of the garage. Thanks for watching.
Could you do this method for the cockles?
Yes it will work, not that I have tried it. I will record an episode using squid soon. Thanks for watching.
Great video, can you do the same for squid?
Yes you can do the same with squid. I'll will do a video soon about that. Thanks for watching and and leaving a positive comment, much appreciated.
What's the largest size fish you can salt? Would an 8 or 10 inch Spanish mackerel salt over night? Would it take 2 days for a bigger fish?
It could be done, and you would be right 2 or 3 days for larger bait fish. Thanks for watching.
Cheers Daz
I do the same technique but with shrimp instead
Released a video recently using squid with great results. Thanks for watching.
Can you do this with frozen pilchards Thanks.
When thawed, you can salt and refreeze. Thanks for watching.
Great idea mate but when you show how to wrap the pilchards individually . Why can’t you place them all in to the bag with out wrapping them up I purchase salted blue bait this way and there all in the bag together not individually wrapped. Regards. Laurie from down south. Tight Lines.
I wrapped like that so I can use 1 or 2 a time without them freezing together. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.
Mate I’ve been using salted blue bait for years and freezing thoring and refreezing and the baits never stick together and I all so use pilchards what have been frozen and they never stick together. Laurie from down south. Tight Lines.
So what happens if i leave it in the salt for lets say a week or so. Will it destroy the bait
I think you can go 2 weeks, store in a cool dry place. Thanks for watching.
How long you can storage them, and where ?
Store them back in freezer or if not frozen use within a week, store dry cool place.
Do you gut the baitfish or just leave them whole with the guts in?
Salt the whole fish, good luck.
@@ReefJunkiesFNQ Thanks!
Can i salt them after getting dry freeze to preserve them till 2 months?
Hi, they need to de thawed to allow salt to do its work. Hope this helps and thanks for watching. Daz
@@ReefJunkiesFNQ hi thanks for reply.. what does it mean? Salt them for 2-3 days once dried freeze them then ready to use for bait?
Will this work with sardines
It sure will, thanks for watching.
Brooo, I'm struggling to catch fish😂 this season I only caught a tiny fish. 😂😂 I need tips and tricks. (I fish off the surf or whatever , CPT, South Africa).
Every fisherman struggles at times. Suggest research on reading the ocean and identify gutters from the beach where the fish will be holding . As for deeper water, creeks and rivers look for stucture.
@@ReefJunkiesFNQ Thanks for the tips. I have researched that quite a bit, I'm just not sure if I'm identifying them correctly or if it's the bait issue. Last night we went out and fished in the Harbour, but again no luck, then again no one else was catching either. In any case, really appreciate the tips. Just solidifies how important structure is and will definitely continue to do more research on it.
I’m guessing this is for when u have leftover bait. I don’t understand the benefits compared to using new bait. Rotten bait stinks to the fish don’t it?
Nice video though, I am sincerely curious!
Saw your comment and this works great for fresh dead, with no odor. I would leave them in kosher salt for 48 hours and just keep them in a cool location. Nice to have in a pinch. I do shrimp, clam, and squid from frozen in the northeast.
@@Aaron.Davis56 thanks I’ll try it with some of my leftover bait when I go today. Thank you
Thanks Aaron for your help.
Thanks for watching, Aaron was all over this.
