I immediately liked the video, as soon as he mentioned aiming at zombies and aliens. 🤣 (And by the way, I just ordered the XDR both in the normal red dot+reticle and one in green with a reticle inspired by the film Predator). I guess we have different perspectives.... On a serious note though, I'm not American, but before reading this absurd and pathetic comment, I was honestly thinking about the amazing aspects of multiculturalism in the US, which of course can bring some tensions, but it's really an awesome and unique thing. I'm half dutch, half Italian, with Jewish heritage and with other relatives from all over the place, so I really appreciate the fact that in the US there are so many amazing cultures. And I have to say, the Hawaiian culture and heritage is probably one of the most amazing ones. I'm more than sure that you don't need me to tell you this, but keep that culture alive! It was a very good fake. I just had an uneasy feeling. The laser was not crisp, it had smears in it. I finally contacted Sig and sent them pictures they requested and they immediately confirmed it to be a fake. @@BrokeBoy91
Bout a Romeo5 on Amazon once and under recoil it would turn off and wouldn't turn back on. When I'd finally get it back on one shot it would turn off again. It wasn't even a fake but I sent it back to sig and they replaced it.
Bought the Romeo 5 for 100$ and have it on a zastava ak pistol, incredible red dot for the price and holds zero, had the low mount initially but switched to the high mount so I can use the irons as well, wonderful review!
Agree 💯 with "sobelowtripleflo." Same experience here: thought I wanted the XDR because of the AAA batteries. Now, though, thanks to your video, I realize the R5 is perfect with the co-witnessing ability I'm after. Thankyou for saving me some grief as well as money! Subbed 😎👍
The regular Romeo 5 is always the right answer as there is no reason to limit your mount choice for a AA battery. What Sig really needs to do is combine the two by incorporating the flush turret adjustments of the XDR into the regular Romeo 5. 2032 batteries are easy to find and easy to store in the pistol grip.
I have a Romeo 4t on my M&P Sport II, but unfortunately it doesn’t get used much because of the ammo crunch. Just ordered the M&P 15-22 and the Romeo5 XDR to go with it. Lately, all I’ve been shooting is 22lr. Got it for $150, I really like the circle on the 4t and the XDR seems similar. Nice video!
Great info.. Luckily I got my Romeo5 for $89.99 off Primary Arms during Black Friday Sale last month.. I love it.. I just need to find a good range to zero it at.. Right now it's zero'd for 50y. Thinking about the 36y zero. I mainly use mine for hunting Hogs, coyotes & Bobcats on the Ranch. Got a 16" M4 Style upper & a BCA 7.5" 556 upper.
Nice! Primary Arms always has the best deals. Several people I work with were using the 50yd zero and have moved on to the 36 have nothing but great things to say about it. As for me I think they’re great reference but I zero my holographics and red dots for MPBR and that’s been working well for me the past several years. WOW! I can’t imagine having bobcats and/or coyotes on our place, how exciting and scary! Lol I belong to 300 acres and the worst we have are hogs and sometimes wild cattle, no bobcats. I bet a bobcat is much larger than I’m imagining it to be; before I went to the mainland I always imagined raccoons to be the size of a large car but then I actually saw one when I was in university and that guy was WAY bigger than a cat! Where about in the world do you live?
Romeo 5 for $89 is most likely a copy not the real deal. I bought one out of Amazon and end it up been fake.. there are videos here that show you what to look for.

ALL my AR's have Romeo 5 XDR's!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aircraft Aluminum means it is the type used in the Aerospace Industry. Basically it is High Quality Heat Treated Aluminum, 6000 series is very good quality and 7000 series is the best Quality!!
I can confirm the durability of the XDR. I just bought one, and took it out to shoot. My friend installed the optic on my pdw, but unfortunately, installed the little notched piece on the side backwards. The optic didn't hold on very long and fell from shoulder height, right on the corner of the front tube. Apart from idiot scrapes on the case, the optic functions perfectly. Kinda scary at first though, because the front glass is at a very steep angle, and I thought that it was loose or damaged. But, thankfully, that's not what happened.
I like this Brah! "This guy" has "a lot of thousands" of everything! On the serious though, good job man. It's nice to hear the breakdown between two of what seem like very similar optics. I can't say that the XDR is for me. I think the other gets better battery life and the EOTech style reticle doesn't seem all that useful and my actually clog up the viewable space.
I enjoy all your videos bro, especially the TS-12 videos. I have Romeo 5s on 4 different shotguns ( Including the TS-12) and ARs and I like them very much. 2000+ heavy slugs through a KSG25 and the Romeo is still zero'ed perfectly. I recently put a Holosun 510C on a Beretta 1301T and that's a great sight as well. If you haven't, you should check them out.

I have all three. The Sig Romeo 5 is an amazing optic for the price. The Romeo 5 XDR is better to me because of the reticle. I love them both and you can really abuse them and be fine, however, in my opinion, nothing beats an Eotech. Great video Bro, you gained a new subscriber
@@theflypilothey brother, I've tried most major budget dots, the 5 xdr has a good emitter but the astigmatism still causes bloom. Not horrible, it's better than my gen 1 romeo5, but it's still a factor. I'm leaning towards an Eotech but I have yet to look through one so I'm undecided on the best option. The PA micro prism is cool and has no bloom but I love magnifiers and although you can run one, you have to compromise picture quality for magnification and I'm already blind enough. If you ever settle on an optic because it works with your stism let us know what you found.

Have an AR-Colt that I bought about 4 years ago when they came back into production. What would be the best red dot for this gun? Best quality for the money but willing to spend a bit more for something that is more stable but clarity is number 1 criteria. Thank you, Karl

There are a few competitions on Maui I’ve been trying to get out to this year, hopefully be able to make it out next year. In retrospect I do think it is worth mentioning, just so people are informed, but I have no personal experience with it either, and I don’t really think there is much utility to it. I’ll admit that could be my own ignorance and I’m going to get more educated in the theory of that reticle; who knows it could be the best ever! But as of right now with the limited knowledge and zero experience I have with the predator reticle, I’m thinking it’s more fun than anything else
It’s awesome. Just like the movie, several settings with the legendary green Predator triangle. I’ve bought 3 of them, mainly for my carbine’s, and I bought 1 Juliet to go with them, which I swap out to each different gun I’m taking to the range, and they pair PERFECTLY. I don’t miss on the 9mm range. Literally. My brother has also bought 3 Predators too! You won’t be disappointed!

.5 MOA or (1/2 inch)per click at 100yds would make 2 clicks only one inch in shift. Red dot 0.5 MOA optics allow for a more precise zero vs those with a 1.0 MOA increments.

Im not a fan of scopes as they make my eyes feel weird. Would the juliet4 magnifier be a good choice for either of these to hunt hogs/deer? No further than 100 yards

I don’t care too much for magnifiers aside from using them to zero, and I don’t have any personal experience with sig’s offerings, but I’m sure it’ll work fine. We don’t have deer in the island I belong to (Maui, moloka’i, and lāna’i are infested with axis deer, kaua’i has mule deer and axis) but I have the LOAD of boar around and on the honestead I belong to. I regularly use my EOTech (not a red dot sight technically but still uses a dot as the reticle) to smoke them within 100 meters and sometimes a little further out (I got one with my 870 police using the Romeo 5 with a slug at just under 100 meters). I think either of these optics would do you just fine even without the magnifier. Not that it would matter much inside of 100, just remember if you’re using a red dot, your dot size will increase relative to the amount of magnification your magnifier uses. Aloha my friend, mahalo for checking out my video. I apologize if I wasn’t clear in the video, but the XDR mounted as low as possible, is taller than the Romeo5 mounted at its lowest possible height. At its lowest, the XDR gives an absolute co witness height of 1.41”. It’s lower 1/3 Mount is 1.63”, so it is not as high as the unity mounts.
@PeaK 808 I meant when mounting to after market mounts.... since the 5 on a lower 1/3 after market would be 1/3... if I mounted the XDR to a lower 1/3 then that should bring it up to around a 1.93 mount right? I know the unity highs are like 2.2 inches...little too much unless using NV but I do like around a 1.93
@@shadyp-zv3uf I think the easy way to get the sight height you’re looking for would be to get a picatinny riser; it will give you the actual increase in height then just add that to the 1.41 sight height of the absolute cowitness mount. I personally would prefer to find a mount option like you’re thinking of doing, but it would be a bit of a search to find one that fits the mounting pattern and doesn’t put your optic in the sky.
Thanks but the noise..... is that wind noise or something going on with your mic....if you're not shooting outside, you could have done this inside without the background noise. Good info anyway.

Erm....be very aware of counterfeits. However having said that- the counterfeits actually are not that bad and you would of got your moneys worth.... just not the genuine article; but there is really not much in it between the real thing and counterfeits. Honestly. Only caliber snobs will notice.

they don't come with the low mount any more and finding the low mount in Canada is impossible. all the forums in Canada have tons of want to buy ads for the low mount the Romeo5 in Canada costs about $300 CAD. and a low mount costs about $200 CAD......not such a great deal for a sight made in China also there's so many fakes out there now I wouldn't trust buying one without seeing it first

I also have several low mounts laying around in a box of extra parts, I’d be happy to give it to you, so again, if you contact me on IG, maybe we could figure out a way to get it to you in Canada, and as the item is neither the optic itself nor a firearm, I don’t see there being any issues with that. I was lucky enough to find a used one on a gun forum here. I haven't taken it out to the range yet but it looks to be pretty well made and the glass is clearer than the Bushnell TRS-25 I had before. that one had a green tint to it and had a cheap feel so I got rid of it. it's hard to get anything in Canada. we don't manufacture anything so we have to import everything. and since our dollar is only worth 70 cents to the USD, plus duty......by the time we get anything it's double what it originally cost. I'll keep checking the gun forums here to see if one comes up

It depends on what chokes ship with your TS12, though it seems universally the choke that ships INSTALLED with the TS12 is good to go for slugs. MY copy came with an improved cylinder and modified chokes. In speaking with many, many other owners over the past year or so, I’ve heard of people getting different chokes with their TS12 than I did in mine. Whether this is true or not, I cannot say, but I can tell you that I run an improved cylinder choke on my TS12 and have run hundreds and hundreds of slugs through it with no issues as long as the shells were to spec.

The TS12 like other Tavors has a lower rail respective to the stock, so a lower 1/3 co-witnessed height optic comes out to be closer to an absolute co-witness in height. Just something to be aware of. I ran the XDR on my TS12 just to get a better handle on the optic itself, but I didn’t really put too much time into it; I’ve pretty much already settled on my EOTech EXPS2 for several reasons. Im scratching my head with the confusion If its this difficult to comprehend and get triggered by it - then you shouldn't own a gun.... Hell not even a powerful magazine fed crossbow- which is what i am watching this video for as i need a decentish sight to put it on my tricked out upgraded adder. - bite me; im from the uk. Yes we are allowed guns - even some usa isn't allowed! - buuuutttt boi do we gotta jump through hoops and are not allowed to carry around like a cowboy. But the crossbow. No licence, restrictions Nothing. And actually for home defence... - it makes more sense. How? Ever fired a gun INSIDE your house? Especially in the dark.... Very loud and disorientating. And NO silencers do not solve this issue- still very loud INDOORS. And dont think s crossbow is child's play- because those that know, would sooner be shot by a 22 than a broadhead from a half decent crossbow any day! - sometimes even a 9mm depending on vs crossbow make/type etc. Also no longer is the achilles heel of a crossbow a thing (aka 1 shot reload. ) as they now have magazines! But just to clarify; im not making an argument that crossbows are better than guns. What im saying is - courses for horses. You want home defence INSIDE and A) dont want to blow there arm off (aka large caliber over 9mm/shotgun - hey think of the dry wall...) B) Want stealth, aka shoot with very little noise etc C) - are saddistic instead not kill instantly but give them a painfully slow death - use a broadhead (the hollow point of crossbows) Then honestly consider it. Just make sure you get a make of crossbow that uses a magazine of sorts and quickly cocked. Plus how baddass do you look holding a crossbow. Nobody looks weedy holding one. A perp will be like - holy cow; its not a gun, but a crossbow! - he must be a savage- im outta here...and not one bolt fired! Aaannyywwaayyy.... Im getting a romeo5. Badass whichever i fancy.

Like I said in the video, it’s good, but I don’t think it’s worth the extra bones. Even though you have the “EOTech reticle” it’s still an RDO and not a true holographic, so if you’re someone like me with ultra gnarly astigmatism, the dot still looks like….anything but a dot
The shape is similar, if not identical, but were British WWII fighter reticles true 1 MOA dots with a 65MOA outer ring able to range estimate out to 400 yards using a 5’10” Zombalien as a reference? Sorry for the misinformation and thank you for educating me, always something new to learn and I’ll try to be less declarative and more straight about my facts in future videos. The regular Romeo 5 is always the right answer as there is no reason to limit your mount choice for a AA battery. What Sig really needs to do is combine the two by incorporating the flush turret adjustments of the XDR into the regular Romeo 5. 2032 batteries are easy to find and easy to store in the pistol grip.
I have a Romeo 4t on my M&P Sport II, but unfortunately it doesn’t get used much because of the ammo crunch. Just ordered the M&P 15-22 and the Romeo5 XDR to go with it. Lately, all I’ve been shooting is 22lr.
Got it for $150, I really like the circle on the 4t and the XDR seems similar. Nice video!

Luckily I got my Romeo5 for $89.99 off Primary Arms during Black Friday Sale last month..
I love it.. I just need to find a good range to zero it at.. Right now it's zero'd for 50y. Thinking about the 36y zero. I mainly use mine for hunting Hogs, coyotes & Bobcats on the Ranch. Got a 16" M4 Style upper & a BCA 7.5" 556 upper.

Several people I work with were using the 50yd zero and have moved on to the 36 have nothing but great things to say about it. As for me I think they’re great reference but I zero my holographics and red dots for MPBR and that’s been working well for me the past several years.
WOW! I can’t imagine having bobcats and/or coyotes on our place, how exciting and scary! Lol I belong to 300 acres and the worst we have are hogs and sometimes wild cattle, no bobcats.
I bet a bobcat is much larger than I’m imagining it to be; before I went to the mainland I always imagined raccoons to be the size of a large car but then I actually saw one when I was in university and that guy was WAY bigger than a cat!

ALL my AR's have Romeo 5 XDR's!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aircraft Aluminum means it is the type used in the Aerospace Industry. Basically it is High Quality Heat Treated Aluminum, 6000 series is very good quality and 7000 series is the best Quality!!

I can confirm the durability of the XDR. I just bought one, and took it out to shoot. My friend installed the optic on my pdw, but unfortunately, installed the little notched piece on the side backwards. The optic didn't hold on very long and fell from shoulder height, right on the corner of the front tube. Apart from idiot scrapes on the case, the optic functions perfectly. Kinda scary at first though, because the front glass is at a very steep angle, and I thought that it was loose or damaged. But, thankfully, that's not what happened.

On the serious though, good job man. It's nice to hear the breakdown between two of what seem like very similar optics. I can't say that the XDR is for me. I think the other gets better battery life and the EOTech style reticle doesn't seem all that useful and my actually clog up the viewable space.

I have Romeo 5s on 4 different shotguns ( Including the TS-12) and ARs and I like them very much. 2000+ heavy slugs through a KSG25 and the Romeo is still zero'ed perfectly. I recently put a Holosun 510C on a Beretta 1301T and that's a great sight as well. If you haven't, you should check them out.

I have all three. The Sig Romeo 5 is an amazing optic for the price. The Romeo 5 XDR is better to me because of the reticle. I love them both and you can really abuse them and be fine, however, in my opinion, nothing beats an Eotech.

@@theflypilothey brother, I've tried most major budget dots, the 5 xdr has a good emitter but the astigmatism still causes bloom. Not horrible, it's better than my gen 1 romeo5, but it's still a factor. I'm leaning towards an Eotech but I have yet to look through one so I'm undecided on the best option. The PA micro prism is cool and has no bloom but I love magnifiers and although you can run one, you have to compromise picture quality for magnification and I'm already blind enough. If you ever settle on an optic because it works with your stism let us know what you found.

In retrospect I do think it is worth mentioning, just so people are informed, but I have no personal experience with it either, and I don’t really think there is much utility to it.
I’ll admit that could be my own ignorance and I’m going to get more educated in the theory of that reticle; who knows it could be the best ever!
But as of right now with the limited knowledge and zero experience I have with the predator reticle, I’m thinking it’s more fun than anything else

It’s awesome. Just like the movie, several settings with the legendary green Predator triangle. I’ve bought 3 of them, mainly for my carbine’s, and I bought 1 Juliet to go with them, which I swap out to each different gun I’m taking to the range, and they pair PERFECTLY. I don’t miss on the 9mm range. Literally. My brother has also bought 3 Predators too! You won’t be disappointed!

.5 MOA or (1/2 inch)per click at 100yds would make 2 clicks only one inch in shift. Red dot 0.5 MOA optics allow for a more precise zero vs those with a 1.0 MOA increments.

Im not a fan of scopes as they make my eyes feel weird. Would the juliet4 magnifier be a good choice for either of these to hunt hogs/deer? No further than 100 yards

I don’t care too much for magnifiers aside from using them to zero, and I don’t have any personal experience with sig’s offerings, but I’m sure it’ll work fine.
We don’t have deer in the island I belong to (Maui, moloka’i, and lāna’i are infested with axis deer, kaua’i has mule deer and axis) but I have the LOAD of boar around and on the honestead I belong to.
I regularly use my EOTech (not a red dot sight technically but still uses a dot as the reticle) to smoke them within 100 meters and sometimes a little further out (I got one with my 870 police using the Romeo 5 with a slug at just under 100 meters). I think either of these optics would do you just fine even without the magnifier.
Not that it would matter much inside of 100, just remember if you’re using a red dot, your dot size will increase relative to the amount of magnification your magnifier uses.

how much taller is the XDR? if I put it on a lower 1/3 mout would that put it at 1.93 or higher?
Aloha my friend, mahalo for checking out my video. I apologize if I wasn’t clear in the video, but the XDR mounted as low as possible, is taller than the Romeo5 mounted at its lowest possible height.
At its lowest, the XDR gives an absolute co witness height of 1.41”. It’s lower 1/3 Mount is 1.63”, so it is not as high as the unity mounts.
@PeaK 808 I meant when mounting to after market mounts.... since the 5 on a lower 1/3 after market would be 1/3... if I mounted the XDR to a lower 1/3 then that should bring it up to around a 1.93 mount right? I know the unity highs are like 2.2 inches...little too much unless using NV but I do like around a 1.93
@@shadyp-zv3uf I think the easy way to get the sight height you’re looking for would be to get a picatinny riser; it will give you the actual increase in height then just add that to the 1.41 sight height of the absolute cowitness mount.
I personally would prefer to find a mount option like you’re thinking of doing, but it would be a bit of a search to find one that fits the mounting pattern and doesn’t put your optic in the sky.

they don't come with the low mount any more and finding the low mount in Canada is impossible. all the forums in Canada have tons of want to buy ads for the low mount
the Romeo5 in Canada costs about $300 CAD. and a low mount costs about $200 CAD......not such a great deal for a sight made in China
also there's so many fakes out there now I wouldn't trust buying one without seeing it first

The Romeo5s are still readily available here, directly from sig Sauer as well as several other sites I can’t go into detail regarding due to TH-cam’s policy, but if you hit me up on IG, I’d be happy to give you that info.
I also have several low mounts laying around in a box of extra parts, I’d be happy to give it to you, so again, if you contact me on IG, maybe we could figure out a way to get it to you in Canada, and as the item is neither the optic itself nor a firearm, I don’t see there being any issues with that.

The Romeo5 sights are always sold out here in Canada. I was lucky enough to find a used one on a gun forum here. I haven't taken it out to the range yet but it looks to be pretty well made and the glass is clearer than the Bushnell TRS-25 I had before. that one had a green tint to it and had a cheap feel so I got rid of it.
it's hard to get anything in Canada. we don't manufacture anything so we have to import everything. and since our dollar is only worth 70 cents to the USD, plus duty......by the time we get anything it's double what it originally cost.
I'll keep checking the gun forums here to see if one comes up

Can I shoot slugs through both the chokes that come with the tavor ts 12?
It depends on what chokes ship with your TS12, though it seems universally the choke that ships INSTALLED with the TS12 is good to go for slugs. MY copy came with an improved cylinder and modified chokes. In speaking with many, many other owners over the past year or so, I’ve heard of people getting different chokes with their TS12 than I did in mine.
Whether this is true or not, I cannot say, but I can tell you that I run an improved cylinder choke on my TS12 and have run hundreds and hundreds of slugs through it with no issues as long as the shells were to spec.

Running either of these with their respective higher risers would be a great setup. The TS12 like other Tavors has a lower rail respective to the stock, so a lower 1/3 co-witnessed height optic comes out to be closer to an absolute co-witness in height.
Just something to be aware of.
I ran the XDR on my TS12 just to get a better handle on the optic itself, but I didn’t really put too much time into it; I’ve pretty much already settled on my EOTech EXPS2 for several reasons.

Also no longer is the achilles heel of a crossbow a thing (aka 1 shot reload. ) as they now have magazines!
But just to clarify; im not making an argument that crossbows are better than guns.

You want home defence INSIDE and A) dont want to blow there arm off (aka large caliber over 9mm/shotgun - hey think of the dry wall...)
B) Want stealth, aka shoot with very little noise etc
C) - are saddistic instead not kill instantly but give them a painfully slow death - use a broadhead (the hollow point of crossbows)
Then honestly consider it.
Just make sure you get a make of crossbow that uses a magazine of sorts and quickly cocked.
Plus how baddass do you look holding a crossbow.

Even though you have the “EOTech reticle” it’s still an RDO and not a true holographic, so if you’re someone like me with ultra gnarly astigmatism, the dot still looks like….anything but a dot

The shape is similar, if not identical, but were British WWII fighter reticles true 1 MOA dots with a 65MOA outer ring able to range estimate out to 400 yards using a 5’10” Zombalien as a reference?

I’m not sure if you speak any other languages but more times than not words and/or meanings don’t translate directly across. Hawaiian is differently, sometimes significantly, sometimes slightly, depending on what island you’re from.
