I just found the disc in case on a fleamarket for about 3$.
My heart dropped a beat or two when I saw what I found.
Been looking for this disc since I started with game collection, that's twelve years.
I was two seconds from losing it, but the other guys had focus on other platforms.
That's the thing about gamecollecting, you GOT to have focus on what you are looking for.

The Game Boy Player peripheral is absolutely worth it. However, the software disc is not. You get far better results with homebrew and launching Gamecube Interface, and you can do it with no modification to your Gamecube. There's really no need for the disc unless you just really want to have the official Nintendo product.

I've never ever heard anyone talk about input lag with the gameboy player. I never owned one but was thinking of getting one finally; however I'm very susceptible to input delay/lag to the point where I'll notice it even if other people won't-- and it makes me physically nauseous in the process. I don't feel lagged when using gameboy player to th3 hdmi allieexpress to the m classic to any tv or pc crt monitor I use. You can use a variety of controllers for 2d games, ps1 controller, hori controller, oldskool controller, snes with raphnet adapter. But if you feel lagged then play them on the gba sp but honestly I have never felt it. I think its worth it if you have a collection of gb, gbc and gba games. Good video.

I agree with you mate. The main reason i bought this was to play on the big screen AND use the OG hardware. Another reason was because my SP needs some work, and its not exactly replaceable being the Pikachu AGS101. For pokemon and games like that its been working quite well, i even play metroid fusion/ZM on it and its been working just fine now. Mario and mario kart have some lag still so for that i just play the originals on the snes and nes but its not a big deal. Thanks for the compliment, glad you found it a good video!

I had one connected to my family GameCube for the better part of a decade if not longer to the point it almost became fused to the console with how weathered down both units became, wasn’t that long ago I was cleaning through storage and found that plastic clear casing containing the startup disc alongside its manual after never knowing where it was for all that time. My parents flipped when I tried trading it for one of the actual handhelds, the pocketable SP. It comes out too blurry on the TV compared to playing on the real things, regardless of the close to no lighting on some models.

There is so much hype and FOMO circling around this thing, but I can help cut through all of that. I have a Gameboy Player and even the highly coveted component cables for my GameCube. I've also hacked a memory card with the Gameboy Interface software that is supposed to be so much better than the official GB player boot disc. I have a SD CRT TV, HD CRT TV, and a MODERN 4K LCD TV and have tried it all ways on all screens. In short, this thing ain't worth the money it's going for these days. The unofficial Gameboy Interface still lags. The low lag variant runs in 240p which modern LCDs hate. It looks the best on a SD CRT but you cannot change the size of the screen in that variant.
I personally use my gaming PC with Retroarch and it blows this thing away. I'm seriously considering selling my GameCube, GB player, and component cables to some rich idiot.

is it worth it nowadays? probably not.
Though if you're like me and a few others who just have an old one lying around, yeah, it has it's niches. Most notably with being able to stream physical pokemon games for speedruns or trying to setup link cable battles on stream and stuff. Then yeah, its an INCREDIBLE tool there. Also a workout machine if you use warioware twisted with it as it makes you twist the whole gamecube, its pretty fun and actually works up a sweat xD

The disc is trash and a waste of money. Best way to play gameboy and gba games using the gameboy player is by having a softmodded gamecube with Swiss.
Then you can install Gameboy Interface and it allows you to play the games without the disc, zero latency and correct aspect ratio of 3:2

Can you play multi-player with this thing though? Can't you just plug two controllers into the gamecube?
You gotta have the link cable contraption?
And you just said there's lag with metroid ?... I bought this thing 2 years ago and finally go around to getting the game cube and the 2 metroid games,,, and there's friggin LaG. That was the MAIN reason I got this thing...
.. do you think maybe it's the hacked memory card method ?
[Maybe getting the actual gb player disc would fix the problem? ]
