When I bought this one it was about 30% still at the $104 price. I think now all the old priced stock may have rolled over. It’s a pricey tool for sure but realistically only $18 more than a wave so I guess it’s in line with the competition
Nice review, the one thing I will say is……….. I don’t think that Victorinox would make the pocket clip like that unless it had a purpose. I mean it’s supposed to be like that , to work as a set of sprung needle nose pliers, to pick up the finer things you’ll need to work with. 😃😃
I honestly have no doubt they chose to make it that way for some reason because it’s pretty glaring. I definitely would prefer if it didn’t do that though
Hi, thanks for the video. Try to put the clip on the other side on the handle. On mine there is a very small difference in terms of thickness .. and my pliers close without problems, since I realized that. I moved the clip to the thinnest side. it's suptile but you notice it when you look at the multitool from the front..
Appreciate you sharing, I never new that! I really do prefer the side I have it in terms of how the tools are oriented when I extract it so it's worth the moderate inconvenience for me
Well I finally got to see how this new clip attaches. I bored out those tabs on mine to accept the Leatherman ratchet. So not sure it would work anyways. Not really pocket carrying a multitool anyway. When I do think I need pliers the P2 and Skeletool RX have been good to pocket carry. But I mainly just carry my Spirit XC at work and do not desire OHO for a serrated blade. I use a blade so much it warrants its own platform. I use Spyderco. I have a Vic Executive on my keys. That covers me off work for gadgets I actually use.
I’m essentially in the same exact boat my friend! I do think this will replace my P2 for a lot of the times I pocket carry it but overall I think I like not having the OHO spirit
If you ever need to pick up something very small say a needle or such the jaws are all ready open enough so you need not have to do anything just squeeze and pick up. I've got a Spirit coming in 3 days it's been a long week waiting. I am using my original as a back up ,should have done it 24 yrs ago.Not going to miss getting pinched. And the small tools are on the outside and come out 1 at a time not everyone of them like the wave. You still like the spirit ?
Definitely still love the Spirit. The Leatherman Arc has largely replaced the spirit as my main pocket capable tool but the Spirit still has more comfortable handles and is even thinner. Mostly the one handed operation and magnacut blade keep me with the Arc at the moment.
Great job on the multitool content, another great review. Imo there are a few things that have to be overlooked to label this the best multitool out there. One being the pocket clip doesn’t allow for the pliers to close w/o applying pressure. Another being the scissors. You mentioned in your previous review, iirc, how hard it is to deploy the scissors, and that’s an issue. Also the scissors are small and don’t open wide w/o bending the spring. And now the price increase. I don’t own the Spirit X and frankly the scissors are the main reason…and now the price. I own the Free P2 and really like the OHO on everything, but the file is really small and the depth gauge is something I won’t use. The scissors are ok, but not as good as SAK scissors. The surge is the closest, for me, to my perfect toolset…but it’s heavy. I have several other Leatherman and rotate between carrying them. I don’t have 1 that is the hands down perfect multitool, so the search, collection, and watching reviews continues. So all that said, you might be right that it could be the best out there haha. I don’t think I’ll be dropping $160 on the new OHO version though, it’s just too much imo. If the scissors were the 91mm version I’d be more likely to.
Awesome comment! To be clear I was saying the best pocket clip enabled option. I know the scissors do not open wide at all but they are every bit as high quality as you'd expect from victorinox. Honestly they are substantially more capable than 95% of the multitool scissors out there because they cut so well.
Is the Spirit very difficult to keep clean? I work on a farm, so everything inevitably gets gritty. People tell me it cleans up easily, but I'm hesitant with anything that can't be broken down for a deep cleaning.
It has very few crevices other than where the lock bar spring is housed. Should be easy to wipe/blast out. I just use my finger usually. I could see it being difficult to flush out debris in the pivot areas so I can't guarantee you won't have issues. The Wave/Charge/Surge may be a better choices to get into the pivot. I've heard stories of leathermans that have been found in fields or hay bales after a year and they worked fine with a bit of cleaning.
Yes, it has smaller gaps than a Leatherman, making it harder to clean, but that's what gives it its thin form factor. That being said, if you have an air compressor near you, you can just blow it out.
The clip on the big swisstool doesnt get in the way of closing the pliers, its very nice, i even carry this bad boy now on my sweatpants at home, can also clip it directly to a belt. A little tip i found out: under the backside of the clip fits a 10-15mm splitring, i attach a lanyard there with a carabiner. Still like it more than my new surge, there the clip wobbles around because its made for the smaller wave/charge only :/ i personally dont like the shape of the spirit but quality wise it blows anything else out of the water (minus the swisstool, wich is even better:P)
I "lost" my spirit the other day for about 15min because I couldn't feel it in my gym shorts waste band! Ever concerned with the tool catching on something and bending the clip out when carrying directly on the belt? It's pretty sturdy but I always worry about that
@@EngineersPerspective701 i dont carry it directly on a belt, i got the plasitc "holder" for it from victorinox, clips it right in the front, super convenient. fits only the big swisstool. i only carry it in my waistband when i got no belt:)
Great review and GOAT level multitool IMO
I think the Arc competes for me!
Yes, the ARC is on that list! Wave,Surge,P4,ARC, Spirit X IMO@@EngineersPerspective701
NIce summary - many thanks
I have the Spirit X, & am considering buying the clip, & your summary was very helpful.
The clip is a really nice addition. I just leave it on even when I’m sheath carrying it
I just looked today the orginal swisstool spirit x priced jumped from 104 dollars with leather pouch to 128 everywhere I looked

the older bigger swisstool got the good sak scissors and is build like a tank, similar to the surge but lighter...
@@peddypeoples941 I dont like that spring they use on the traditional SAK's. They have broken multiple times on me.

Thank you!
Very good review, I subscribe👍
Appreciate it man!
I just put the clip on mine and it doesn't have that problem
Maybe mine was a fluke then. I ended up bending it so it sits perfect now.
maybe u got swisstool pocket clip instead of spirit one?
The invoice and packing said spirit x so the chances are pretty slim. Could be a faulty spirit clip at that point!
3:35 could it be that they did that on purpose to make the pliers have some spring for fine work? They must have known it.
Maybe! No way of knowing what the thought was but it is hard to imagine they just overlooked it!
Personally it’s not my preferred fine work setup
@@EngineersPerspective701 never mind. Just received mine and they close without touching
