  • I love the tech in the Tesla but some things are usable and some are party tricks. AutoPark and Summon are those for me. I have forgot to use them for a long time. I tried them out on the new Plaid Model S with FSD and I was very happy with some of the results.

    I love my Tesla and have been a Tesla owner since 2013, but the summon feature is just laughably bad, and probably dangerous if used in a crowded lot. The only thing it's good for is moving the car out of a tight parking space. Still, I'm hopeful that it will get better.

    If you start auto park when you are more in the middle of the isle, it will back in -in one attempt w/o needing to pull forward again.

      I have found that to be the case as well, but seems like it is sometimes hard to get it to just the right distance alway for it to do the one motion pull in and also be close enough to recognize the space

    I am driving a Y with the FSD Beta software 10.2. 2 days ago I was at the edge of the usable blue circle with my brother-in-law and his friend. I pointed out my car to his friend and hit the "GO TO TARGET" button. The car was backed into the parking place so it was easier for it to get going in the direction of the target I set. The car performed flawlessly. The guy with us was blown away. He was unfamiliar with Tesla. Not any more!

    Summon is definitely a cool gimmick but it’s not effective enough to use frequently. It stopping in front of passing traffic in the parking lot is a good example. As far as auto park, it’s still been very difficult to get it to even sense that it’s an option, whether between two cars or a marked spot. I don’t use it often for those reasons. I’m not sure if they’ve decided to stop working on making the summon feature more useful or safe to spend time on other things, but I haven’t seen any increase in efficacy since I’ve owned my Model 3, February.

    Version 11 of FSD with all in stack system will make the summon features more useable 👍👍.

    • @whatdrivesyou6798
      @whatdrivesyou6798 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I sure hope so. At least it should make summon something that the engineers can put effort into again since it will not be stuck on the “old” stack. Seems like they knew they would have to rewrite all of that so it has been neglected since it was released

  • @spleck615
    @spleck615 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Vision park was introduced for refresh/plaid s because the ultrasonic sensors changed, and the old auto park was based on the ultrasonic sensors, not cameras. Rather than rewrite the ultrasonic auto park to work with the new tesla in-house ultrasonic sensors they implemented it in tesla vision with the cameras. This was recently promoted to general production and all cars that support it have been moved to vision based parking. Summon is still using the old summon stack, no real changes in a while. That will change when they move to single stack, expected with FSD beta 11.0.

    I have enhanced auto pilot on my 2018 model s and summon is just a novelty for me. Smart summon is very glitchy and takes a long time. My co workers got a kick out of it but other than that I don't see myself using the smart summon. It is handy to use summon for tight parking spots but even that I rarely use. It came already installed when I bought it used but I'd never pay $6K for it.

    Both items are for show right now. What it will do is follow you like a dog. I’ve gone for a walk with my car following me. Just held come to me and it kept right with me as I walked away. I actually walked around the block with my car following me. It was awesome.

  • @duncanaronstein7462

    it parks backwards because it doesnt have a camera on the bumper in the front. with the new cameras and hardware 4 coming around cybertruck time it should be able to do parking spot to parking spot FSD drives which will be pretty sweet. it could do now but it kinda has to assume nothing is directly in front of the bumper out of sight which is dangerous if youve been parked for a while.

    Summon with the phone is worse than useless. It's not even a party trick because it would have to work to be worth showing off. My car has worked twice in 4 years. It not only takes forever to get started, it almost always disconnects and fails completely.
    I've got Autopark to work once. The rest of the time it either doesn't give the option or takes so long that I have to take over to get out of someone's way or I have to repark because it's so far off center and at an angle.
    Summon with the fob is the only thing I find useful. It allows me to line up in a space close to a bush, wall or pillar and then back or pull the rest of the way into the space.

    I wanted to use to it pick me up while leaving work, but it's just too slow and the distance is too short.
    There was a day it was raining hard and the car absolutely refused to leave the spot. Still very much a gimmick.

    Summon and auto park takes toooooo long and doesn't work most of the time. By the time it does work, if it ever does, i could've gotten in my car, driven off to a main street already. Such feature only for demonstration or show off, not practical yet.

    Watching it do the summon was like watching a wild African baboon let loose behind the wheel of the Tesla. That was frightening. Also, the auto-park was excruciatingly slow. I don't see how it's a useful feature when a healthy human can park the car in 1/10 the time. I get the feeling these are just gimmicks to keep people talking about Tesla than actual useful features.

      I can confirm this works to enable Summon Parking on Refreshed Model S/X. I did it this morning.
      1) Autopilot -> Customize Summon -> Require Continuous Press = False
      2) Click/Double Click right yoke wheel button.
      3) Choose direction (forward or backward)
      4) Exit Vehicle
      5) Car will move in the chosen direction and park according to your summon settings.
      6) Profit
