The lead singer, David Gilmour, is one of the finest guitarists who ever lived. He’s never done fast, flashy solos much, but in his hands that guitar is like a living thing, that can cry and moan and sing. He’s amazing.
I concur…
When I was 17. my girlfriend was killed in a car accident. after the funeral I came out to my car by myself, sat there crying and turned on the radio, This was playing, I vowed from that day forward I would never forget her, and every time I hear this song I remember Teresa. Im now 61yrs old and I can still see her face. forever 17 ): Wish you were here.
I wouldn't be afraid to say you just witnessed one of the greatest bands EVER
Indeed!!!
"We're just 2 lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year." Don't fully know why that line resonates with me so much, but it do.
The sound is about Sid Barret a founding member of Pink Floyd and they are 2 lost souls without him
One thing that I enjoy the most is watching young folks discover my youth in music. Born in 1965, this is my youth.
Me too.
Just a baby lol, born in 59
@@starbritefr LOL It's not the age, but the milage. 😁
@@firedoc5 lol been around the clock
@@starbritefr A time or three.
Pink Floyd are one of the most iconic bands ever. They take you on a journey . Their sound was unique and is timeless. This song remembers their great friend and colleague Syd Barrett who sadly passed away. However we can all relate to this song as we remember our own loved ones who are no longer here.
You missed the point of the song. It wasn't written because he passed away. He was lost to them due to mental illness and drug abuse while he was still alive. That's why he left the band. The song was written and released when he was still alive.
Didn’t die, went to a mental institute. Dead now, but not when this song was recorded.
Roger Waters has said the song is actually about him and the band because after the success of Dark Side of the Moon things could never be the same. Shine on Your Crazy Diamond was more about Syd.
@@BProof I don't know I was really drunk at the time...
He passed away but only in his head, he eventually died 2006.
This was in 1994. I saw them in concert on this tour, and it was most amazing concert I've ever seen! It was like a religious experience. They are legendary, and this was their final tour. Wish You Were Here was about their founding member, Syd Barrett, who left the band back on late 60s due to some serious mental issues exacerbated by his heavy use of LSD.
There aren't many groups who put on such a stage show as Pink Floyd. One of the things I really liked about them is that they were not afraid to use dissonant intros with some of their songs, they act almost like a mental palette cleanser to give the audience a clean slate for the next epic song to come.
This is the one and only David Gilmore! And this recording is 30 years old from one of the most epic concerts ever pulled off. Other must sees from this concert: Comfortably Numb and High Hopes (at least)! PS: and some say the second guitar solo of Comfortably numb of the Pulse Concerts is the best guitar solo ever played on this planet. (And I tend to agree!)
David Gilmour
One of my favourite songs of all time. When my father died suddenly, my brother would sit in his room and play this song and I would sit outside his door and listen along. I knew he wanted to be alone but I wanted to connect and felt like I was connecting with him through this song. 30 years later, I still don't know if he knew I was just on the other side of the door, feeling it with him.
Tell him.
I was blessed to have seen them on this tour, and on their previous tours dating back to the late 80's
Incredible to see what they were able to achieve with their light show, bearing in mind that this was filmed in 94.
Hard to believe that it's been almost thirty years.
The love of my life passed away in 2019 at 45 years old. He was a man with many demons & a kind heart. It was often difficult to know which was going to win.
This song has always been one of my all-time favorites but it has a deeper meaning now.
Growing up with this band, they meant so much to us. It's not surprising the admiration of the audiences they had. Glad to see the magic still works.
My [philosophy on life was shaped by Pink Floyd, thus my life has been shaped by PF.
One of my all time favourite lines, “we’re just two lost souls living in a fishbowl, year after year”.
Exactly: “ Running over the same old ground, but have we found the same o’l fears. Wish you were here”. Lyrics written for us we didn’t know we needed to hear
I seriously recommend listening to entire Pink Floyd albums non-stop. They are more of a continuous song broken up into parts. They all tell a story. They are an amazing experience to behold. Just play it with headphones on letting your mind wander.
The first listen of a new Pink Floyd album was a life changing event.
I did the math....
My turntable was isolated from springs from the ceiling.
Watching these reactions brings me back to that life changing day in '94 in Earl's Court ... every single time - which is partly why I love them so much.
Another reason is watching a younger generation explore the music of my youth and appreciate the artistry in it. Love it!
His Name is David Gilmore 1 of the best vocalists you will ever hear! such A talent
He knows his way around a 6 string, too.
@@user-jn8jk5cc7v sure does :)
Gilmour, please
Pink Floyd is one of the few bands where they weren't trying to get you to tap your feet or bob your head to the beat . It's more about listening and taking it all in .
This is one of my all time favorite songs. Love me some Pink Floyd 💗
This was a tribute to their ex band mate who had mental health issues, Syd Barrett. It's my favorite Pink Floyd song.
According to Roger Waters (in the documentary about the making of the album Wish You Were Here), who wrote the lyrics, this song is about activism. The "here" in Wish You Were Here is not a place, but a state of mind. He didn't share this with David Gilmour, and David always sang this song as if he were singing it to Syd. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is about Syd, though. Think of activism, and the lines "Did you exchange/a walk-on part in the war/for a lead role in a cage" (among other lines) make a lot more sense.
This song, this album, this group have been discovered, loved and passed down generation to generation like a pearl of great price. I have loved them since I was in my early teens when my big brother played this album in his car for me. My all time favorate band.
In Pink Floyd fashion they use sound effects in the intro. With the studio version you can really tell that it begins with playing through a radio. David Gilmore is not just singing and playing guitar but singing a "duet" with his guitar. It is another song inspired by the loss of Syd Barrett, one of their founding members.
Why do I forget about Syd?
I see their last show in Montréal in 1994. 2 out of the 3 concerts they give!!!
epic moment!!!!
The lyrics are deep as well; the original founder of the band had mental health issues, left the band and disappeared from their lives. The entire album is conceptually about Syd Barrett, specifically "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," and the challenges of the music industry ("Have a Cigar").
"Did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?" - Crazy good.
(Barrett actually appeared during the sessions for the album, and they didn't fully recognize him. I think he thought he was still in the group. It's a sad story, but the group went on to greater heights under Roger Waters/Dave Gilmour)
Pink Floyd puts you in the mood they want you in for every song.. That is why the long introductions. Just setting the mood You will love shine on you crazy diamond
I remember listening to Shine On You Crazy Diamond while driving down Card Sound Road in the Florida Keys, on a starry night, with the convertible top down... sublime.
Honestly, I feel like I'm getting up there in years (I'm 38). Not too bad off yet, but I feel old. But seeing people discover Pink Floyd songs for the first time really does take me back. I was maybe 12 when I first heard Pink Floyd from my friend's stepdad's record collection, and I haven't looked back since. A lot of the first songs I ever learned to play on guitar were Pink Floyd. This is wonderful to see, much love, friend.
EDIT: Also, his name is Dave Gilmour. He is a brilliant musician. Even Dave Mustaine of Megadeth (who never has anything nice to say) said David Gilmour could do more with one note than most guitarist could do with an entire fretboard. I tend to agree.
38 and getting up there in years. Try 62 and been listening to them since the mid 70s.
52 here and loving the Floyd since the early 80s. My mom loved them too, especially when I would play their music on the Fender guitar she bought for me.
Absolutely love this song and band. Now I have to go watch Comfortably Numb from The Pulse Tour. David Gilmour's solo on that song is Legendary.
My favorite too! I love listening to the live versions!
The last two times my husband had to go under general anesthesia. He asked to listen to Comfortably Numb from the Pulse Concert. Some of the people said they never heard any Pink Floyd songs before that. And they were amazed how good it was.
To give you an idea of how well known the song is, you should watch guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela perform this live at Glastonbury in 2009. They had the crowd sing the song, and the crowd knew the whole thing word for word.
the opening sound effects are of a transistor radio as one rotates the station dail. It stops at a guitar on an off tined station. That guitar is Syd, his guitar slowly fades into oblivion as the Band starts to play their clean music. There message was always more than lyrics. Their music is in sync with the lyrics. Shine On YOu Crazy Diamond displays that even more so than on this song. Greats Band ever. The members are dying off, but the music will stay like the great Composers of Classical music. Future generations will say, "shhhh, Pink FLoyd" getting people to be quite so he can listen to the unique sounds of PF.
This was at Earl's Court in West London, if I'm not mistaken. I was fortunate enough to see one of their concerts from this tour in May of 1994 at the old Foxboro Stadium in Massachusetts. It was the most amazing and surreal experiences I've ever had at a concert. That stadium was packed and it was an incredible experience I will never forget!
I was at Foxboro Stadium as well, for both the Wednesday and Friday shows. Still one of the best concerts I have seen in my life!!!
@Gene Giusti I agree! I went to the one on Friday.
His name is David Gilmour and Pink Floyd is the best Band of all time, no other Band can compare with them. In my think they are on the same level than Bach, Beethoven or Mozart. Their Musik can´t put in any categorie and they are not only transport Musik to you, also in the same time they send you emotions and feelings. If you want to see a another great guitar solo, then check out "Sorrow" from the same "Pulse" Concert. Greetings from Germany
I got to see that concert in Massachusetts . One of my landmark moments. Still the best show I have ever seen. I wish I was still there lol
This is David Gilmour, lead guitarist and vocalist in some songs.
This song by Pink Floyd is just epic hits the right notes I was introduced to this by my best friend who I lost in 2023 after his 13 moth long fight with cancer he is the person who introduced me to his legendary band he did say that the cd/record pales in comparison to them live
For their 20th wedding anniversary my mom gave my dad divorce papers. They both had some emotional issues they needed to work out as weill as drug problems. My dad got sober for the first time in his life and stayed sober tell he died. He was crushed that she left him. He listened to this song on repeat. "We're just two lost souls, trapped in a gold fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground, thats how we found, the dame old fears... Wish you were here. Thos lyrics reminded him of her. This song is iconic.
I hope you've had a chance to find peace.
I'm the youngest of 4 in a broken family
....
The last one to leave.
I was introduced to Pink Floyd in 1975 when I was stationed on Okinawa. Have never looked back. By far, one of the greatest bands of all time.
Whatever that warmth is that you exude? I wish I did that!
Great reaction
Pink Floyd is in my all time top 5 bands. They are simply amazing. Glad you're reacting to them.
David Gilmour is amazing. Pink Floyd are my favourite band of all time, but damned if I could say which is my favourite track, they’re all so damned awesome!
Saw them in the 80s as a teen, grew up with them from my sister and cousins. Will never stop hearing new tones and lyrics in the background on dark side of the moon and animals. Great show and awesome band
The PULSE tour was the ultimate consert experience in history...
Speakers in front, on both sides, and behind the audience made us be INSIDE the sound.
The light, laser and video show, topped with the biggest disco ball l've ever seen.
People in all ages and from different countries together in one cosmic ride to outer space...
Unforgettable....
saw pink floyd in 1974 in Nashville, TN. Awesome show. Also saw Blue Oyster Cult the same year. Both shows lent themselves weii and sounded even better with a little chemical enhancement. Great DAYS.
Pink Floyd is one of the greatest ever! Us and them, Time, Comfortably Numb, Mother, Marooned, Have a Cigar, Division Bell. Pink Floyd never disappoints.
They are the G.O.A.T.
I first heard this in 1976 when you were not even twinkle in your dad's eyes 🤣. Great reaction. They are my all time favorite band. If you have the time, react to Echoes stage in an amphitheater in Pompeii (destroyed by the Mt Vesuvius volcano )
I saw this tour, when I saw them there was 56,000 people. This was playad at my mothers funeral
Saw David Gilmour twice in LA in 2016. The Hollywood Bowl on a Friday night and two days later at the LA Forum. Epic.
I was there :-D pink floyd division bell concert Joe Robbie Miami Fl awesome concert !
David Gilmour is a F A N T A S T I C guitarist AND vocalist. Check out "David Gilmour Live at Royal Albert Hall, Remember That Night".
This was my husband's and my song he passed in 1998 a love very strong and i miss him every day❤
Love this song. Thank you
That was at the Pulse concert at Earls Court in London in 1994 his name is David Gilmore
Lots of talent in Pink Floyd, all over the place, from the rest of the instrumentalists, to the backup singers who are phenomenal. That being said, in the instance you referenced, "his name" is David Gilmour and he is an extremely rare example of someone with the unique combination of lyrical genius, vocal extraordinariness and instrumental mastery. I can count on one hand the number of artists I'm aware of (I'm sure there are many that nobody knows) that have all three.
YES Because I Have seen them LIVE Have you?
I loved seeing your reaction to this music, they started in London I think it was in 67 / 8 and played about with music all of it mood music (apart from a few pop songs for the money) but they were probably the first of the Progressive Rock bands, I remember hearing they used to travel round to gigs in a large lorry (big truck) with all their instruments and sound gubbins one of which was a large brass gong about 4 foot wide just for the sound of it.
If you like the voice thing you must listen to “The Great Gig In The Sky” Pink Floyd. That will blow your mind it was never done before that and it certainly hasn’t been done since. The voice I’m talking about in the early 70s they dragged in a session singer they had heard to sing for the group one song. No go and listen!!!
Another voice you may like is Deep Purple “Child In Time” that is another gods of rock early 70s. Go fly girl!!!
in my teen yrs i did not really listend or enjoy PF. did this past decade seeing videos of troops in combat zones singing/guitar this song after losing brother from ambushes or IEDs. I reinvested my ears . In January my Mom's passing i came across PF's "MOTHER" song just amazing
I saw them in 88 with 50000 other fans, flying pigs and all, it was mind blowingly awesome.
Your "The Crowd" comments....are spot on.....we were!! You should take your family to a Pink Floyd laser light show if your area has them....
Pink Floyd great Britt more pink Floyd Please
When Prince died, David Gilmore was doing Comfortably Numb, the lasers went purple and he went and did the solo Purple Rain.
Loved your reaction. I think you would make yourself and many of your listeners very happy if you reacted to the song Comfortably Numb from the same concert.
"Time" by these guys will tick your long intro box and drag you into an existential crisis and make you thank them for it.
The pivot line for me is, "did you exchange, a walk on part in a war, for a lead role in a cage?" Ugh. Great question. Great post.
the doubling of guitar and vocal was really special. the guitar part just an entension of his mind and imagination, brilliant
That's David Gilmour, one of the lead singers and the lead guitarist. He is a legendary guitarist.
“Did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage.” Best lyrics ever.
David Gilmore... Amazing.
It's Pink Floyd of course it's crazy in the audience
Oh girl, you're in for a ride with Pink Floyd! Try 'One of these days' from the same 1994 PULSE concert tour. And then 'Mother' live in 1980.
Just perfect... Cheers
Fighting back the tears listening to this is quite an effort..🙏
Yup, every time.
Well Miss Brittany, you love a story and now you have entered the rabbit hole. Pink Floyd has one of the greatest Rock and Roll stories, so buckle up. Every one of there albums are like a short novel, every song feeds off of the previous one. So even though you didn't start from the beginning, I think you might get a hint of the whole picture. They are truly fantastic. Have fun on this journey.
Britt, you are so effervescent! So pleasing to watch 😊
Growing up my family listen to all kinds of music. Is sad that people get stuck on one genre of music and miss out on so much
When they get to the line about trading a walk on part in the war. For the lead role in a cage. It reminds my husband about his dad. He fought in the Korean War. He spent 27 months 17 days in a Chinese POW camp..
I knew once you seen this you’d love. Thank you Lady. Greatest Rock band of all time.
1 of my fav pf songs, frm v mid 70s, 2 me a modern classic.
Don’t know if it was mentioned, but this song was originally written as a tribute to the band’s original singer, Syd Barrett, who was on their first two albums and a number of early singles. Syd sadly suffered from psychological issues as well as drug addiction, and kind of just drifted away from the band, unable to cope. He attempted a solo career, putting out a couple of albums before he left the music business for good in 1972. “Shine on you crazy diamond” and several other songs have been said to be about Syd.
One of my buddies moved into Cali from out of state all obsessed with Floyd. I had no idea for years what they were about til years later. He was ahead of his time...
The acoustic intro is one of my favorite things to play on my 12-string guitar. :)
Next one from Pink Floyd - Coming back to life ( live Pulse 1994 ) = 3 guitar solo 🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶
Pink floyd WOW these guys are off the wall so unique
Paying attention it's a must, listening to Pink Floyd!
My favorite song ever
The lead singer on this is David Gilmour. He's also known for being Pink Floyd's lead guitarist. For years Pink Floyd also had Roger Waters as a singer and bass player. According to Gilmour this song was written by both himself and Waters. Gilmour wrote the music with Waters writing the words. Gilmour thought it was the best song they ever wrote together. Thanks.
In 1989, I was at their concert in Venice. The stage was set up on a huuuge raft on the sea in the middle of the bay, surrounded by small boats. There was such a crowd on the waterfront and in the square that you could barely squat down.
Fun fact: in „Keep talking“ (of the same concert) Gilmore uses a „talk box“, which feeds the distorted sound of the electric guitar through a tube into his mouth and he can alter the sound by opening and closing his mouth or changing the shape of his mouth. This creates a similar effect to a wha-wha pedal. In any case - probably something you might be interested to see!
Dave Gilmour is the leader and the guy singing and the solo guy best ever
Great job! Thanks for sharing.
For the best into to the Pink Floyd song vibe: Shine on you Crazy Daimond (studio version first). Enjoy!
Pink floyd will take you on a journey that you will never forget.then you will want more
Hey my dear. I love how you open your book to ALL types of music. This is Pink Floyd. We Pink Floyd fans are deep. No pressure my l❤ dear , enjoy.
I always play this song for my sister's and my niece. I'm in Texas my family is up in Michigan where in from..
We used to play this in the local clubs years ago. It takes (and I can't stress this enough) nuts the size of space hoppers to scat in time with the guitar like that in front of a small crowd, let alone a mega-concert.
Great!! More pink floyd reactions please
The Wall was the first CD i bought in the late 80s. great album.
Pink Floyd are a wonderful rabbit hole to go down...
One of the greatest bands of all time doing one of the greatest songs of all time. Beautiful.
Literally my favorite pink floyd song
one of the truely great bands of the 20`th century ! and they are still performing !
