Due to severe gridlock in Bangers they decided to go 'upthere' with new major freeways and rail. Just as well, but. They are putting around 1 million new vehicles on the road every year. And of course nearly everyone goes to Bangers for work. Have you tried to drive from up North, Kohn Kaen, to BK after one of their major holidays. As in 14 hours of 5 wide mayhem. Thailand has a bleak furure for road travel I'm afraid.

@@JJ-vy2rh cars in Thailand are roughly the same price as here in OZ. The work utes are cheaper due to, i think, lower taxes to encourage farmers to buy them. They are not cheap considering the poor wages.

I live in a high rise across the street to where you got off the train in Bangkok (you got off near the Makkasan Airport Link and Phetchaburi MRT station). I see that train everyday and wondered where it went. I'll have to give it a try on a Pattaya trip sometime.

I took the el cheapo train from Bangkok to hua hin... way too many stops and without a/c but it was an experience. Pro tip 😄....I walked throughout the train and at the first car the wind was super blasting through and kept me cool and relaxed the entire trip.
I also did the mototaxi in Bangkok...white knuckled the entire time.

Packing for flight tonight. Having done the airport/Pattaya 40/50 times, I never voluntarily do the trip. Train trip looks cool. Will do Bangkok that way. And on rail prices, my day visit to London (off peak, railcard) cost for 100 miles £47.50 (2,000 baht). The train drivers are on strike today, but luckily have coach booked for Heathrow.

I was there 2 weeks ago, hired a scooter in Bangkok and rode down to Pattaya and then back again. It's really not too bad, traffic in Vietnam was busier with many more obstacles.
The big issue in Thailand is the traffic is faster, but it's overall easier and more relaxing than Vietnam. If you can lane split it's easy to get around Bangkok.
When you're riding you just have to stay alert and watch mirrors and scan side to side constantly

I like it better than 2nd class though, because you get the view and the breeze from open windows. 2nd had those damn plastic decals on the outside of the glass, for ads, and mainly to prevent the glass shattering. In some sections of the route, stones were thrown...thanks for these vids...

Trev, a bit of advice for tourists on their first time in Bangkok using the motor bike taxis, which can be a little scary. I lived in Bangkok several years and used the motor bike taxis every day, and I found the younger the motor bike taxi rider the more dangerous the ride, so i would always find a middle-aged taxi rider, they were usually much safer and less impatient than the younger riders who took ridiculous, unnecessary risks.

Great to see it lately. Haven't done the MRT but used BKK's taxis and tuk tuk's plenty -- the tuk tuk isn't bad when it's quieter or there's a bunch of you (we've had 4 or 5 of us in a tuk tuk). Mostly used BTS and foot-power when I lived in BKK in 2018. Always no problems except in work peak hour -- I lived "too close" to the central area to get on a really busy service -- an orca amongst sardines, so to speak -- it was easier to get on *the other way* for several stops out further and then head back in (when it was time critical) -- but I only had to do that once. Mostly it worked a treat. As for the motorbike -- yeah, a bit harrowing! Can't wait to get back.

I did not know there was train service between Bangkok and Pattaya, and for about $3 USD - I will definitely be taking overnighters when I move back to Jomtien. That ride was immensely more relaxing and enjoyable than taxi or bus trip, spacious with plenty of windows to see out of. This video was great, but some of it was an absolute hoot! 🤣🤣 I loved the part where you showed the taxi ride from where you got off the train to the hotel. I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when making a left turn your bike taxi squeezed between the curb and the auto taxi and you dropped the F-bomb! As long as I have been riding motorbikes in Thailand - and I ride a Kaw 1600 at home - I am absolutely terrified to ride a bike in Bangkok. No. Nope. Not gonna do it. But I am happy to watch you🤣🤣. I am looking now for the second and third videos in this series.

Last month we took the train from Bangkok to Hua Hin was a great trip and made for a better adventure than just jumping in a cab , we even got a Thai railways meal but sardines and rice at 11 in the morning wasn't my cup of tea

    • @grahamjohnson4702

When you say Thai Railway meal do you mean the hawkers that board the train during the journey, not seen a restaurant car yet on any train. That would be good, all those gas burners making your tom yum.

Always wondered how the train trip was. I think it opened after my last trip. TO bad it doesnt have a stop at the Airport (or I missed it in your vid). Got to love Thai travel. I took the bus system from Pattaya to a Wat Bang Phra outside Nakhon Pathom for a tattoo. It was an experience and glad to say I'll rent a car next time.

Honestly the traffic in Bangkok has not changed much in 30 years from my recollection. As intense as the motorbike antics may seem to many, this is child's play compared to Saigon or Hanoi. I've been happy in Pattaya, a city of about a third of a million depending on the time of year. Having lived in the New York City area most of my life, I've had enough of the big city life. An occasional visit is fine by me and I take the local trains to get around mostly.

Hi Trevor, I stayed in Bangkok twice ,the first time I came to Thailand my mate and I went straight to Koh Samui flew in to the airport two hour exchange than out without seeing Bangkok itself .So second time to Thailand I gonna see Bangkok ,oh boy it was Sunday morning early flight from London a 6am landed got a taxi from the airport as I came closer to city it's skyscraper's were everywhere ,crikey it's like New York and as for the traffic on a Sunday morning 9 o'clock was crazy trying to cross the road at big Zebra crossing was squeaky bum time ,you get half way a cross the light's would change to green it was like Grand prix ,oh boy fucking leg it to the other side lol and this was a Sunday morning traffic .I like the Tuk Tuk's it's a laugh a bit pricey to be honest but at night in the back of a tuk tuk we both enjoyed the ride .Your vlog on a back of motorbike taxi bloody hell a white knuckle ride, I wouldn't be on back that bike ,sure it's quicker ride but blimey I would have shit myself ,I almost did watching your vlog 😂.
