  • In 2007, on his first day of Grade 12, Travis Price learned that a Grade 9 student had been bullied for wearing a pink shirt. He and his friend David Shepherd convinced hundreds of their fellow students to wear pink clothes to school the next day, creating an annual campaign now known as Pink Shirt Day and sparking an international anti-bullying movement. This is a great initiative! Being proactive towards negative behaviors is the best way to go! Bullying should not be accepted!!

I've heard that the guys who stuck up for the victim were actually the bullies themselves.

Travis, this story is not fully accurate and you know it. You have changed the story saying you bought the first pink shirts. You know that’s not true, David bought the shirts on his way home from school. I know this because he called me at work and I know the people who owned the store. The women who worked at the store help David fill the bag. You didn’t buy anything for pink until the next day when the 50 pink shirts David bought were gone. You didn’t call the Principal to get permission at all, David did; and he was the one who was told about the possible suspension. You should remember that from the Principals message the night of graduation ceremonies. Pink shirt stand up was not done for the attention you seek from it, It was done because the right thing to do was “Stand Up” for someone who was being bullied. You also know that it wasn’t just you and David that talked about wearing pink, there was a group of you. David just happened to be the one who stopped and bought shirts on his way home from school. He has always included everyone when he speaks about pink shirt day. He has also stood up for another person since this event. I am very disappointed in you for altering the story for your fame and attention. I am also very disappointed that organizations have just taken your word and never checked with David in regards to this information This is Sherry, Adelia’s Mother, sobI know the truth.

This isn't true. He wore the shirt to make fun of him. My brother school with him. I can't believe this.

What are you guys really pushing. This is copied from the pink shirt day website. I'm pissed my boys in primary school are being this, ibam not ok with it ..
Sometimes people think that we at InsideOUT are trying to label kids and make them grow up too fast. You might face the same objection. However, what we want is for kids to be able to play, try out wearing a skirt or sparkles or a silly santa beard if that calls to them, try out 'he' or 'she' if they want, and in time grow healthily into whichever adult they are.
Five year old Sam might grow into being Samuel or Samantha, and might fall in love with a woman or a man or neither. Either way, we want Sam to thrive, be free of bullying or shame, and able to make their own choices.
