I've seen quite a few videos on the retrospective of SoTO. And Sneb was on 2 of those and I have to agree with his positions the most. Very insightful everytime. :)
From someone that bought GW2 in 2013 played for 2 hours and never picked it up again (old WoW addict) and just return to the game 3 years ago, I liked SoTO overall . But the metas are boring AF, have to agree.
My main goal in the game right now is to build my legendary armory because of that SoTO gave me something to look forward (the legendary armour), since I don't myself raiding (I had enough of that in my WoW time).
From someone that experience the game in a very condensed way (play every expansion in a 3 years period and seeing the release of EoD and SoTO), I rank the expansions like the following:
- PoF (with LWS 4)
- HoT (with LWS 3)
- EOD
- SoTO
- IBS (considering a mini expansion but it was more like a LWS)
Excluded LWS2 and LWS1 (and core of course).

Could you imagine if it's NOT Wing 8? People will riot. I'm not a raider, so I don't have a horse in this race, just watching from the sidelines with popcorn

UNDERWATER COMBAT has so much potential in GW2 - Anet should go all in and put all 3 underwater weapons land based and have a UNDERWATER/ MARINE ASSAULT based expansion!! Is the Isles of Janthir under siege and we do a Guild wars 2 style D-DAY?? Aim for the stars and we may get as far as Uranus! (all jokes aside).
If they are going to add Wing 8 (seems unlikely to me but who knows), they probably do need storymodes for all raids, but they should ABSOLUTELY do "return to" events for existing raid wings leading up to the release. The story/open world focused return to events have been great for reviving old content.

I think Tridents on land makes sense, you could do a Gladiator type melee style for Warrior. Ranger and Engineer could get the speargun on land.
SOTO has the best rewards. Good in terms of gold, good in terms of collection skins (achivement rewards), good in terms of highrolls, legendaries, a mount skin as well. I would never say that SOTO has bad rewards. Not even close to that.
Perhaps a better way to communicate this is that it doesn't "feel" rewarding, even though the rewards are quite good. I'm not sure why I feel that way. It's totally illogical. Perhaps its just that the metas are quite long.

I'm convinced we will get housing and wing 8, it wouldn't be too hard for housing, all they need to do is make an instance like the guildhall, rework the guild decoration system to make it compatible with placing walls, windows etc. For wing 8 they are for sure going to make a story mode, so they had to make the story anyway, so they don't have to build the full raid from the ground up, and make a story instance like raids used to be.
80% we aint getting housing relax lad , dont get your hopes up , gw2 soto didn't deliver , everyone got dissapointed by the design , sure gold making is good , free skyscale is fine too , but other than that its pretty bad , i will doubt gw2 will make housing , but yes maybe raid wing will be a thing , i also hope they make an bsolute banger of a story instead of this 12 yo story writting we got in soto.
Oh i agree that soto was a flop, however i honnestly believe they learned a lot of soto, but im still a believer in both housing and wing 8 i guess we will find out in 4 hours!

I think the main problem with Anet is they've been trying to fine tune the least amount of work they can get away with while still charging $30 for these mini expansions.
Just look at everything HoT brought to the game, its the massive feature list.
Even Season 3 and 4 had more juice than IBS and SotO, Season 3 they tried to have an interesting mechanic per map, like Vines in Draconis Mons, Season 4 we got two whole unique mounts which are arguably the best in game to date.
What have we gotten in IBS besides electromagical grenades?
In EoD besides Jade bots... ?
SotO brought PvE legendary armour, more Skyscale abilities, the decouple of weapons from elite specs which are all very nice but hardly paradigm shifting like we seen in previous content.
At this point I'd say Anet needs to bring in some different people to the dev team or flat out replace some of the devs that are just anchoring the progress of the game, because when I look at 12 years of GW2 its quality just keeps going down.
I hardly feel like getting expansion 5 right now, I may get it later on or I may just quit the game like I have between 2017-2020 since I'm back my head has just been above water thanks to the member berries but I'm quickly running out of those, haven't logged in game for a week.
I just came back after 8 years and I have a huge problem with how they changed Fractals for example. The new fractals are complete and utter gutter trash. It's not fractals it's raids. I am not a fan of wailing on a shit tier boss with huge visual clutter that burns my eyes for 10 fucking minutes. In a Tier 2 fractal. Like get out of here with that garbage I will forever skip these new fractals from now on. And from listening to you they took inspiration from the SOTO metas from expansion. I may buy SOTO just to get the weapons but come on. This is not GW2.
Back in 2016 I did 1-100 fractals with random pugs with 0 reqs apart from agony resistance and got all the achievements for the legendary backpack. It was my favourite harder content that wasn't raid level. I just had to carry a lot of mechanical content with clever use of my Mesmer's abilities.
