    This yacht was built for one man, and his exacting detail and vision of a yacht that he could live on 24/7. He outfitted this 42 metre yacht with his very particular personal preferences and then not long after the yacht was delivered - tragedy...

  • @womblechops

    The spelling in the name is Audace, he was Italian so it is taken from the latin/Roman convention of using a 'V' to stand for 'U' because if you're carving in stone or on a tablet it is a heck of a lot easier to do straight lines! This also explains why we call W "double-you" and not "double-vee".

    • @blah163
      @blah163 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You are correct. U was introduced to Latin in a hand-written script in the 2nd century. At the time, U and V were the same letter in Latin. Whether you curved the bottom or used a sharp angle was a matter of style. The 2 forms coexisted for more than 1000 years. However, it doesn't make sense in this case because Audace is Italian, not Latin. In Latin, it would be Audacia.

    • @visionist7
      @visionist7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@blah163 it's apeing the 1920s - 1940s Italian architectural style where the U was always replaced with a V on buildings with carved letters. Nearly all of them had lettering and most survive to the present day.

    • @williamrockwell9001
      @williamrockwell9001 ปีที่แล้ว

      While i agree V was used for U your reasoning seems lacking. There are lots of curved letters it doesn't seem reasonable to only change the U and none of the other letters. Here are some that come to mind.

      Well said and VERY true. This ship appears to have a lot more personality and warmth than ANY of those “bling” yachts out there. Lol, this is easy to say when I’ll never have either kind, and while I’m sure I would appreciate either; this has that “home” feeling to it that I would prefer, and I’m sure anyone would love as well. The fact he doesn’t have the typical helipad on it, (to me) shows his priorities were right! That says “when I’m on it, nothing is ‘helicopter urgent’”. 😊 “Whatever the problem is, it and you, will HAVE to wait until we dock”! Man, I’d so love to live life like that. 👍☮️

      I have the same questions. I was thinking that this could be a bad design when dealing with stormy oceans, but as I’m going on zero actual knowledge, I was hoping someone could answer. As a captain on this ship, would one not feel as confident due to the high center, or is the width and length proportionate enough to offset that? Could that possibly be the reason for the refit and additional length that was added? Anyone able to answer this?

    Anchored for a couple of nights right next to it in the south of Ibiza in the summer of 21. Looked it up and then some local told me the story of his top deck residence. I contradict you. I've been on this yacht twice, there were tasteful parties in Ibiza. I met the owner and he left the impression of a very modest man, with good sense and balance, but also daring.
      a special man, of great value. he also owns a small boat, which he let us explore the area, Formentera, with one of his employees. he really loved to travel with this boat.
      I probably won't experience climbing on other yachts again, but many people are still mourning this good man who went up.
      I know that he behaves very nicely with his employees, (all Italians) and even helps their families.

    At least he did it his own way. Too many people just go with standard designs,, choose size by what their budget is, and do little more than a bit of floorplan modification, maybe toy selection, and a lot of interior decorating. It will find a buyer. Though if it were me buying it, I'd want to see how it handles in heavy seas, it looks pretty susceptible to trouble on the roll axis.

  • @jo_clarke1960

    Well what you know, someone so rich he could afford the yacht but unlike the rest, he used his vessels looking to pack as much into life as possible due to his family situation. Most if not all who can afford that money, don't have the ability to make decisions like this. They just look to hoard the money or use it as something to show off with. This guy built a home to sail the seas, how many people dream of just sailing all the seas? Realised he couldn't take it with him so used it to enjoy his passions in life. It's a pity the ending is as it is, 50 odd, most of us expect another 20 years on that. Hope the new owner actually uses it, at least the one man's dream doesn't go to waste as some sort of trinket.

    These video's are exactly why I started following eSysman when he only had a couple of 000's subscribers, I love these wandering commentaries. Great stuff.

    You said the only other MY you kno that carries a car, is the Nord. Yet one of your other videos, there was a Ferrari parked on a deck at Monaco. You even said he had a second car that is sometimes there instead. Or were they only there for looks and not actually carried by the yacht? Or was this that yacht?

    Arisottle onassis had cars on board there is a picture of him driving a beach car that looked light to lift on board
    And also the gettys would of had cars on board and most probably a riva,
    The nouveau riche

    In archaic Italian the U letter did not exist and therefore the V was used instead.
    Nowadays we still find the V in place of U in many official, institutional writings

    I believe there is a Nordhavn that had a Mini onboard, not sure of the size, but significantly smaller than 42 metres.

    Tragic ending? Perhaps more ironic.

    Well done, love this informative type of vid, nix the death. Though it was handled well. A friend of mine works down in Miami doing custom paint work in Power Boat Alley for Apache. I've ridden in several and understand the desire for the looks on these types of power boats. But I'd rather have something like this, (explorer), then the standard fare. Either more room on the same size or the same on something smaller. Seriously, unless it's at a show how many people actually get to see them.
