My late father, who worked at NAPA in the machine shop, was a mechanic for a GMC dealership,and owned and operated a Standard Oil station, always told me that "Things always run best the way they they were designed to run". So I completely understand your feelings about keeping model A's original.

A note on the Powermaster 6 volt alternator/generator-look-a-like. It was originally created for the flathead V-8 where it is mounted up high with lots of room. The model A version is the same unit just shipped with different brackets. It is larger than the original model A generator and requires a larger fan belt to avoid rubbing against the model A block.

Model A Guy words of the day….Dirty Oil is like a Dirty Diaper. Change dirty diaper to not get a rash. I’m still laugh’n. Lots of electrical questions this session, which often cause headaches. Great video.

Great video. Don't you know electricity is in the wires in the form of smoke? Because once the smoke comes out the wire no longer work! Many times during my 45 years in the automotive repair business I fixed many cars that somebody let the smoke out of the wires! The first thing I would recommend to someone starting out is learn to read a wiring diagram.
My maintenance log is easy. I use an he speedo mileage reading. Every 1000 miles grease and check Trans and rearend levels and Check points.
Every 2000 miles change oils
Every winter repack bearing and check brake pads

Very interesting. I do not own a Model A but would like to. My problem is age and poor health but I may still get one. Watching your channel has made me feel that I could do many of the things that I was afraid I would not be able to do after all. The A's are so simple and easy to work on that common sense would take care of the problems. The reversed transmission direction reminded me of someone who flipped a rear axle when they installed it and had the same problem.

The simplicity of the Model A is amazing, so much can be done with one person and once in a while a helper, it’s rare to have an issue that would require or be beneficial to have more than 2 people. Belonging to a Model A club is the most important thing you can do, we all help each other and do fun things together.

I've used Evaporust many times and it's NOT acid - you can put your hands in it and it won't hurt you. It is also biodegradable and reusable!
Evaporust has a ph level of 6.1 so it is an mild acid, kind of like vinegar, so yes safe to dip hands in it, that being said we wouldn’t put in our fuel tanks for long periods of time since it is acidic.
On the alt. Fuse blowing. make sure the battery is connected correctly. + positive ground. I sold an alternator I had converted to 6v + ground. I guy called me said it blow the fuse so I went over to his place with another Alternator. What I found was he had had the battery hood up to - ground. I hooked the battery correctly. No blowing fuse and the original alternator worked great . Good luck

Just did a Powermaster 6V conversion. Works great. Fuse will be OK. On their instructions, they said to run the power wire directly to the battery, bypassing the ammeter. I thought that was not a good thing as then the ammeter will not show a discharge or charge . I did run new 8 gauge wires as they suggested. When the engine starts, the ammeter showed at the most , a 15 amp charge. I use a 30 amp gauge , but a 20, should be ok. Also, make sure the alternator is grounded as per their instructions. This alternator looks great, and so far works great. Putting a voltmeter on the battery, engine running, I'm getting 7.4-7.2v.
the unit was hitting a hose clamp, but I turned it a bit and it now has 1/4" clearance now. The stock belt is 43 inches, funny note, the same as the WWII Jeep.

What did you use for a fan belt? I understand the stock Model A belt is too small.
I used the stock one. They are 43". In fact it was the opposite that happened to me. Almost too long. Barely cleared the radiator hose.

Good explanation on the alternator/generator conversion, liked the term chinesium, ha ha! Oil change scenario is a funny but great way to describe how you relate it to a baby diaper. Tube radio question- is that a 1946 Mayfair 530 (the one with the blonde wood case) on the shelf between and behind you two? I restored one a few years ago and have never seen another one.
You are talking about "refurbishing" old caps (open the alu-housing ... getting the "stuff" out of it and replace it with a modern cap)... what are you using ? 0,1µF 365V X2 type? (like used in HiFi, for instance ... on the switch)
I would use a cap with at least, a high voltage rating. 365V or even more if not X2

Olestra was the imitation oil that was supposed to be low or zero cholesterol. I'm not sure how they didn't figure out the unfortunate side effects of using it until after many products were released to the public but it's kinda funny now that they stopped. Hopefully someone lost their job over that. That said, always love your channel.
So many products just like that, so many things are put in our food and drinks that are harmful to our health yet they keep on doing it, sad.

Hi, Interesting video as always. When I restored my 1928 82A Pickup I rebuilt the distributor and opted for the modern points plate and condenser and have been having ignition problems so I have just invested in an electronic ignition system from F S Ignitions in Ponca city, OK . I am about to install the system, do you have any experience with this unit ?
Yes, but my experiences with electronic ignitions have all been bad, so I'm not the guy to ask.
Paul, you did a video about building a carb for Tina's car. I noticed that I didn't see, during the rebuild, an accelerator pump. So, if true, how did this carburetor handle this problem.
It has a secondary well that takes care of it…you are correct, Roadie doesn’t have an accelerator pump.
You gotta release the Brentwood Bob shock rebuild video, we've been waiting on him to do one for years. I'll make you some interstitial title cards to cover the missing footage. :)

Hey, Mr Picky! Are you going to be doing a video, or an update on the Burtz Block anytime soon? Just a curious cat, ya know!
Hi! Paul did his product review video on Burtz blocks, when Paul and his engine guy found errors in size of stuff inside that was causing it to drag and catch and talked about how they were going to fix the issue themselves so he could get it going in our Model A’s, Mr. Bertz and his partner sent Paul nasty emails saying he was going to sue him for defamation of character if he didn’t take it down. So not knowing yet if that’s possible, he took it down even though Paul never said anything bad about Burtz, in fact up to that point Paul had been supporting Burtz…he only found a problem with the blocks he was sent, wanted to fix the issue himself and share with others how he was doing everything…only education purposes.
We no longer support him, he isn’t an honest person and he and his partner continue to bad mouth Paul every where on social media, most recently on TH-cam on another TH-cam channel, just a day ago, very sad.
@@Modeltshinn Wow! I am sorry to hear this. As I did not hear anything further, I was just curious. A product review is supposed to be open and honest; good or bad! It's too bad that they want to silence opposing view points. You would think they would appreciate the info so they could fix the problems. Paul and yourself would be powerful allies if they were open and honest. I'm really sad to hear the bad news, but as the Romans said, caveat emptor. Let the buyer beware. Looks like I'll be buying and rebuilding a core engine later on. I'm sorry to bring up a sore spot. I'll mind my tongue on the subject.

One of the things that we realized also, is the blocks he made and all of the parts that go to it are his measurements, not Henry’s so you can’t replace parts for original Ford Model A engines with his stuff, you have to have buy his block. I think if you’re going to help the Model A community keep Model A’s driving, make parts and new engines that work with original stuff to save money for the consumer. A new engine with different design and all of its pieces different from original is expensive. That’s just how I feel.
@@Modeltshinn I agree! Build a new block to build with existing model A parts! And offer improved parts that fit either. We need new blocks. We need new, counterbalanced cranks. But his block is a 'look alike' that bolts in. I could use my Pinto engine! But that would require too many changes. It would be a model A replica when finished. Shay did that back in the eighties, and they didn't sell well. Gotta go for now, nice blabbing with you!
Concerning the oil change. When you add gasoline normally the engine is hot, isnt that not a good time to check the oil? Shouldnt the person wait till all or most of the oil is in the oil pan and then wouldnt you get a more accurate reading of the amount of oil?

@@Modeltshinn I was being silly, not serious. I would prefer 12 vdc negative ground, but that's not how they were built. Either works, and like you said, whatever makes you happy!

I found a 28 Tudor couple weeks back and got my old boss interested enough to purchase it. She's not perfect but looks good and runs geat.Enjoy your week!
