    Well done you for having a thought and wanting to put it all together and putting a video out to share it with everyone 👍

    Glad to have come across your video. I am looking into these heaters. My aim is to use the recovered heat to heat water, in that way, I get free hot water, given the ever increasing living cost crisis, aka, inflation, money's gone to fund foreign wars that we have absolutely no business whatsoever. Anyway, we can't vote them out, so we look for alternatives. I can't afford proper food, so I supplement by food with animal feed. Nothing's wrong with it, just a few gravels in it. I replaced bright light bulbs with £shop 2W bulblets. I store food outside and switched off the fridge, etc.
    You can go up to 2m in length and 270 degrees in total bends when it comes to the exhaust pipe. This is what the manufacturer recommends. I have seen many people who go above this limit. If you exceed it, you could have an incomplete fuel burn resulting in sooth build up inside the burn chamber and smelly smoke from the exhaust. You'll never know. Try it.

      Hi thanks for the comment ,I'm sorry to hear about your situation and hope it improves soon. I'm not surprised in the least . I have a number of serious health issues after working as a mechanic for 48 years and can no longer work but for some reason am not entitled to any benefits ! so we live off my wife's humble wages and I do what I can to save money . I have had no income since Jan 2023 . The system is not working as far as I can see. Good luck.

    It looks great! Instead of a longer pipe in the box, you might also try metal fins on the pipe to dissipate the heat.

      Thats a good idea to increase heat transfer . I only did this as a quick and cheap way to cut my heating costs when in my workshop and did not really expect this much interest ! I may well try and improve it further and will take on board all the excellent ideas .

    That is an excellent idea. Im going to do something very similar with my diesel heater. Thanks.

    My idea was to get one of the longer exhaust pipes and bend it into a large coil and install ii in a 5 gallon metal pail. Then I would mount a small fan on one end and an exit flange on the other end. I would think that would give me all the heat off of the exhaust before it exits.

      Yes good idea , I have done another video with a longer pipe with some good results .

    If the exhaust cracks wont it spill fumes into the stainless box? My chinese heater exhaust only lasted 2 years before it cracked when it was simply sitting there exposed to air. I would trust this more if you had an actual rigid stainless exhaust tube that was welded.

      @donkey2lathe  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the comment. Yes there is always a possibility that the pipe would crack and fumes enter the room . I suspect no more than a normal heater with some of the exhaust inside the room but I have now got a carbon monoxide alarm just to be on the safe side ,as used in caravans and campers .

    Yeah, i like the box idea. Ive also been thinking of ways to make an exhaust heat exchanger.
    Re the wmo, i think you'll still have issues, just further down the road. I also tried it, watered down but it just took more time to clog the main gauze (not the one around the glow plug, the big one you can't see in the swirl chamber) loads of info about on TH-cam by many trying to burn waste oil.
    Nice work....

    • @donkey2lathe
      @donkey2lathe  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Thanks for the comment. Yes I agree in hindsight I think WMO is more trouble than it's worth to save a few pounds. I have blown various chemicals through the inlet in the hope of clearing it and fully dismantled it once so a lot of work just to burn 2 gallons so far .

    Use tumble dryer sheets to outlet smells amazing

    Interesting! But dont you get a diesel smell from blowing exhaust air straight into the room?

    • @donkey2lathe
      @donkey2lathe  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi The exhaust only travels through the box before going outside of the building ( through the black garage door heater is mounted on ). The fan takes air from the room and then blows it around the exhaust and then back into the room .

    what about condensation? Are you getting water condensing in the exhaust, like in a condensing boiler? it might be good to have a drain hose like in a condensing gas boiler. They use the combustion air-in to cool the exhaust and condensation is collected. it takes loads of energy to evap water and you can re-coup the energy when you condence it!

    • @donkey2lathe
      @donkey2lathe  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Matthew , Thanks for the comment. Its true what you say about combi boilers but in this case the exhausts should always run downward ( according to the installation instructions ) and they have a drain hole in the silencer that has to be placed pointing down when correctly fitted. I have used the short exhaust that came with the heater and it was easy to keep it going downward , however when I get round to fitting a longer exhaust I may have to make a bigger box to fit it in to ensure that it still does.

    Why not just use a long steel pipe? Could just lay it on the floor and out the other wall?

    • @donkey2lathe
      @donkey2lathe  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi , I did consider that as others have done. My reasons are , it will get in the way in my small workshop and I will probably end up touching it accidentally. Also it will be radiant heat that tends to heat a small local area rather than blown around. Theres nothing wrong with radiating heat but in a simply built garage with some drafts and doors being opened it would soon dissipate, that has been my experience before when using a calor gas heaters and other radiating heaters,

    Wonder if you could use a old cast iron steam radiator?

      Thanks for the comment . A cast iron radiator would probably work just as well.

    PLEASE put a carbon monoxide meter in your shed mate, those exhausts are prone to failing.

      Let us know how well combustion works after you burn all the oxygen off in the first heater

    • @donkey2lathe
      @donkey2lathe  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Im not sure what you mean , there is only one heater . The second silver box is just a box that the exhaust travels through before exiting through the door to outside . hope this helps.

      @@guywithjeep I guess you mean the part when I said I used one of the heater output tubes to blow around the box and exhaust and push warm air into the room . That was only being used as a source of forced air movement but didn’t work as well as the small electric blower .
