    Props to Bob Dylan for writing this masterpiece, and for Guns n Roses for putting their seal on it.

    Axl Rose's actual vocal range is 5 octaves and five semitones. However, he would occasionally surpassed that and reach C6, with 'Sorry' having one of that significant high notes. He is a natural Bass-baritone which you can observe in his songs sung in low notes.

      He blew his pipes permanently. He apparently cannot hit those notes anymore based on what I've seen. If you are old enough to be around back in those days and got to see these guys live and hear something that I cannot hear if I go to their concert, you should count yourselves very very fortunate in that column

    • @seanmackey8552

      @@choice12ozborne I don't know. Axl did a great job on tour and with AC/DC. I'm 60 so I've been around, seen their tv concerts but never got the chance to see them live. I don't think they toured enough for most people to see them. They say when Axl was young and in a Choir, he used to copy other singers ranges to mess with his teacher. Not many from those days can hit those notes today. It's called ageing and with Axl there's other, shall we say additives.

    • @choice12ozborne
      @choice12ozborne 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seanmackey8552 I like that closing line which was diplomatic of you haha. We're just talking about a few cigarettes is all right? 😉 I saw that story about the choir in some documentary. I saw homemade video of GNR about 6 months before they blew up. Is the oldest one I can find of what became the band for the first couple years or whatever and two Izzy or whoever else left. It's pretty cool. I know this is long but I want you to try to check this out on TH-cam search if you can. I was watching old rare footage of Hollywood Rose and LA guns that obviously was just somebody with a video camera trying their best to just shoot a rehearsal. But the one I'm talking about was in a small closed genre that I believe was on sunset strip. I think I found it accidentally but if you wanted to watch then you could probably type in something like GNR early where footage sunset strip. You figure it out. What was crazy is they had not yet been signed or at least I don't believe for one second they had dropped any kind of record at that time. So when you're watching this video footage two things are going to be kind of crazy to you. One thing is the person is filming this is picking up all the chatter of different women who apparently are sitting at a bar behind him . So these ladies I can hear talking back and forth behind the camera person and we got GNR on stage and of all songs he's singing Don't cry. This probably was around 1985 or 86. So the two things that struck me is really strange where the same woman that were chattering and not really paying any attention to the band at all were probably some of the same women that were groupies 6 months later when GNR first blew up. But I thought it was strange that don't cry sounded almost like the later release on usual illusion. I guess it's weird to me because I like that song a lot and they sat on it all that time which just seemed kind of strange and I have no idea why they didn't just drop it on lies or appetite.. I know I'm rambling but I'm just some young guy and I get excited when I speak with someone like you who was literally around when music videos were popping up of this band and CDs were coming out and there was no internet. So when you guys got a CD then that must have been very freaking exciting to get it into a player ASAP! I'm just trying to imagine my mind and I would be me at that age with either some CD player in the car and if I didn't have a car then I would have some sort of portable Sony Walkman or whatever to pop it in as soon as I got out of the store. I mean that would be so freaking cool because nowadays practically everything just gets dropped online or leaked by hackers. So you were really fortunate and I wish you would have gone and watched those guys because I kind of feel sad that I can't see the same Axl Rose hitting those different notes that I see in these older TH-cam videos where I listen to. It's my favorite band. Too bad they split up when they were pretty much at their height from what I understand. Grunge was coming in but GNR was still stronger than ever according to ticket sales and selling stadiums out while Nirvana was not ever going to be a stadium band imo. I really have nothing against Nirvana but you know from watching documentaries I saw there was a little friendly feud between the bands haha. She and I was still at the top of their game when they released use your illusion one and two and they were selling out stadiums worldwide when they split. I like the stones and also like the Beatles preferably magical mystery era. The reason I'm going on like a little girl gushing is because I grew up on hip hop. When covid started and we will put on lockdown, this is when I began to delve into a reaction videos and go down this rabbit hole of Rock. That's when I absolutely just tried to get as much guns and roses as I could. All right man I need to stop because this is just way too long but if you're still reading I just figure you're a lucky person to have been able to get it CD and step out of the store and then toss it in a player. Or what's on TV and see the new video of whomever. Too bad you never got a chance to go see them. You know it's never too late? You could always go check them out if they go on tour again but you better chunk out a lot of change hahaha. Okay man so cool bro and you're about the same age as my pop. For some reason he never liked guns and roses too much. He was more into '70s rock like Crosby stills and nash, doobie brothers, creedence Clearwater revival and the list goes on. He never did like '80s bands because of all the glam once again man I was using speech to text and I'm sorry I just got talkative because it's really nice to speak with someone in reality or online that was around at that time and hearing things fresh when they dropped onto a CD and on MTV. You know the crazy thing is most people my age don't even know what MTV stands for? That's bizarre crazy to me. 💯✌️🙏

    Truthfully I prefer this version to Bob Dylan's. Dylan's was the first version I heard decades ago.
    Just like Jimi Hedrix's version of All Along the Watchtower, another Bob Dylan song.
    I thought this was from the Freddie Mercury tribute concert.
    Don't know if you've shown her these yet, but I got a couple that might change her mind for #1.
    From the Queen Rocks Montreal 1981 "Save Me".
    Happy Mother's day Dee 😁.
    Gotta wish my daughter one as well, she just had another baby last month.

      Hendrix's version of Watchtower is also Dylan's personal favorite as well. But Dylan's favorite cover of Heaven's Door is done by Bruce Springsteen. Not what you expected, eh?

    I remember this live show.. ..They let me without words...Axl was pure fire...his passion , his energy, the way he danced is always stuck in my head....the same emotion at the live in Tourin in 1992 when I go to their amazing concert.. I love Guns and Roses since their live in Ritz in 1988 . I founded it in Vhs and I watch it so many times..

    Do yourself a favor and check out the original by Bob Dylan. People have their opinions, but it is hard to outdo the songwriter's version, puts more feeling into the song as was the writer's intent! Too much stylizing in the GNR verson which IMHO detracts from the song! In any case you owe it to yourself to check out the original. th-cam.com/video/O-sVpVIovKk/w-d-xo.html or for a different kind of treat check out the live version backed by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers! The song is meant almost like a hymn and GNR just ruins that!

  • @ptournas
    @ptournas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think this is an excellent version, great rock arrangement. But I still like Dylan's original version better, mostly because this version doesn't really convey the emotion which is the essence of the song as effectively as the original. A personal opinion of course, and maybe affected by the fact that I first saw the song in the movie it was written for, Pat Garret and Billy the Kid, which made me keenly aware of the emotional context. It's not like the Jimi Hendrix cover of All Along the Watchtower, which added much to the song without taking anything away from it.
    Dylan himself loved Hendrix cover. He said "he found things in the song that I didn't even know were there" and that he started playing it more like Jimi after he heard. About this song he said that Guns and Roses were okay "but there's something about their version of the song that reminds me of the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers.”

    Please tell me why this cover performance has so many reactions. It’s a good performance, yes, but a poor cousin to many _great_ performances. This is a show biz version of a song of mourning. It’s not for showing off technique, it’s for the consideration of death. Dylan’s original is much better, as are The Grateful Dead’s and the Band’s covers. They did many, the best of which might be from the “Dylan and the Dead” album.
    Certainly one of the best is Mark Knopfler’s special, Dylan-authorized version honoring the victims of the Dunblane School murders in Scotland. I’ll edit this to add those links. This is one of the greatest songs ever, and deserves far better than the egotistical treatment offered here. Thanks Chod!

But it always feels a bit disappointing that you and or your wife are often introduced to a brilliant bit of music or band by way of a GARBAGE TRUCK IN THE SUMMER..!!!...✌🤙🤘

    Making it louder doesn't make it better. Dylan's original is far better.
