    It seems like a lot has changed. I recently got a DJI Mini 4 Pro (Combo+ at R23k Black Friday deal). The tech on the drone is incredible. I am more concerned about flying laws and regulations than the risk of damaging the drone.

    I'm a student and like traveling, so I bought a GoPro Karma drone because it was a cheap option for me, it's a GoPro Hero 6, a gimbal, and a drone in one package. It gets the job done, it can shoot 4k 60 flat colour but nothing near the Mavic's log profile. But if I could sell it for a Mavic I would.

    • @trying2adult
      @trying2adult  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's really cool I never realised the Karma used the Hero 6, which is a pretty awesome camera! I didn't recommend it hear cos I've come across some bad reviews and serious lack of support in SA. What has your experience using the Karma been from the time you have used it?

    • @tebogopodile
      @tebogopodile 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trying2adult I understand why it has bad reviews because it doesn't have any obstacle avoidance, it also uses WiFi so it doesn't fly to far. I've flown mine about 400m before losing connection. I've crashed it once, it was my fault but it survived. I've had it for over 1 year and it has reliably got the job done but I just don't like the WiFi system and the fact that it has no sensors for obstacle avoidance.

  • @christopherm-84
    @christopherm-84 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Tino, I want to get a drone but DJI is way out of my price range and also I want to get into freestyle FPV, which is a whole other ball game. Do you know of any other brands that have a good budget drone, possibly with a bit of acrobatic capability but even if it doesn't, will still provide a good basic learning experience? It doesn't have to be FPV either. I think the phone app and cardboard 3D type goggles for the phone would be a good budget option. I know DJI has an FPV drone that has acro ability and good to progress with but, as I say, way over my budget.

      Hey. You’re quite right, there’s technically a lot of laws but they are mostly around flying in public spaces and national parks.
      If you plan on flying commercially then there’s licenses you have to worry about but if you plan on flying as a hobby then it’s a lot more chilled… just don’t fly in areas where there’s a lot of people and avoid national parks. The laws are pretty similar in most countries.

    Hey man!! One thing aswell is watching overseas cinematoc shots but also SA aviation regulations makes it inpossible to perform close shots to landmarks. I feel its hampering the tourism industry aswel. I bought a used dji spark and this has amazing photography vids and camera stills. The town of George where i reside has got a 10km no fly radiuis from the george airport! That means even your local park that is 30m away from everything is off limits. And the retailers themselfs wont disclose that. I wonder if the sales reps even knows this

    • @trying2adult
      @trying2adult  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That must be so frustrating and George is already a pretty small town too. I faced a similar issue when I tried flying in Stellenbosh. There's a tiny airport that is rarely used but because of the regulations, I couldn't fly at some of the wine farms there. The retailers will never mention drone rules and regulations unless you bring it up yourself 😅.

    • @cassiebotha61
      @cassiebotha61 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      trying2adult i agree totally but i see a lot of pro photographers use drone footage on their client portfolio or sites. I recon one must learn to fly smooth using any open field. Then when if want to snap a nice shot. Quickly take out the drone... snap then put it away.. the good thing about small drones is they very low key

    • @trying2adult

      Drone are such a cool gadget aren’t they! You don’t need any license if you are flying for fun or as a hobby. You only need a license if you do it commercial, to make money out of it. ROC is +/- R20,000 and RPL about +/- R100,000 💀. Flying commercial requires a big investment. Not just in gear but licensing too.
