Go ask a police department mechanic who has several years experience with engines in cop cars, all types. They would know all the answers to your questions.
Yep Scotty will tell ya what bottle of shit from Auto Zone will fix that engine knock... Most of the 5.3 engines that knock it's a rod knock. Some just let go of the front main bearings just mentioning one of the many I cured it's usually one the front rods or in particular #5cyl can be a pain in the ass and let go for whatever reasons or it is the new gen 5.3 GM cam shafts can strip a lobe and knock like a rod. Most of the time you only get slight sneeze out of the intake because of the fuel injection. Had a few here thinking main bearing or rods. It was the cam sounding like that. In any case you are looking at about $1,000 in parts and $1,500 to yank it and fix the fuck up. Budget 3K easy and the decent 5.3 gaskets are expensive even on line. Do not buy thee cheapo gaskets on Ebay U will be sorry and buying the right gaskets anyhow. You cannot fix the cam by throwing a new one in and not putting new cam bearings in while it's in the truck. You are only screwing yourself if ya don't yank it and put the new cam bearings in it. The 5.3 and 6.0 cams are a night mare if you don't put the new bearings in em... You would get about 3,500 to 5,000 miles and whole engine will self destruct on ya..
@Purple Gun I've revved up more engines than Scotty has ever seen in his days and I pulled off 5 Northeast Modified Stockcar Championships before I was 35 years old... I have forgotten more about motors than most blow holes will ever know about an engine... I know Silverado trucks better than the Tonawanda engine plant does and the Indiana Texas and Canadian factories that assemble these loads of manure... It takes a real rocket scientist to figure em all out it really does... GM has done a lot more to hurt itself than they realize... Scotty has nothing to do with that at all he's an older salesman believes in what he believes in. I just believe that works right... It's getting harder and harder to buy a TRUCK that does just that...
Excellent Video clip! Apologies for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you researched - finding government seized and surplus property (should be on google have a look)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for #keyword1# without the headache. Ive heard some super things about it and my friend finally got astronomical results with it.
Loved this but loved that you are getting your son involved. I think that is the most awesome part. Congrats on the two buys. Looking forward to seeing what happens next and love the McDonalds in the seat. Your son is going to have a bast.
John, as always, thanks for being such a big supporter. Nate will turn 16 at the end of October and he's starting to take an interest in cars and is pointing out things he likes and such. He seems to attract the ladies so maybe I should introduce him in the videos and start brining in a different demographic!
Hi Chris! I found your channel yesterday and love what you do! I used to buy and flip cars from eBay back in the day when you could do that and not get burnt by prices, and people listing cars that were not honest about the condition, etc. Great to see you getting your son involved and your energy is awesome! Thanks from a new subscriber!
Lloyd Setty Hey man, thanks so much for your message! I appreciate what you said and for subscribing too. Flipping isn’t always my goal but when the right car pops up, we’ll, I gotta buy! -Chris
Hey nice to see you having the experience with your son no mater what happens with the purchase the learning and experience with your son is priceless he will remember this always and it will impact his life forever ,the LS based engine is basically interchangable it's just the DOD that's a problem for most !
Gets 8 mpg highway and 7.5 in city To mention electrical problems after all the police electronics have been jerked out I'd bring a 10ft pole next time..
Man, it was great meeting you too Max. I really appreciated how you shared your data reader findings too during the inspection period. When I was picking up the Avenger I met the guy who bought the Dodge Dakota for $700 and he was simply going to flip it. Why not for only $700. He also bid on my Avenger but stopped at $1500 but than I got it for $50 more. Let's get together again for the next auction and do more vid's together! -Chris
Hello Max, you should have/help Chris put together a video showing how to use the code reader for checking out the cars. Best of luck with the CV for your dad. -Pat
@@hullinger I bought a Ford explorer from a government auction it had 125000 miles on it note same engine rt now it has 368000 miles and still running strong it has a 4.3 engine in it best buy I ever made at $3200 we have had it 9 years good luck
Ruszko, thanks man. This is my first go time dealing with these engines so it's a learning curve for me. I'm much more comfortable with carburetors instead! I decided to send the truck to a mechanic friend who's gonna check it out for me. Frankly, I didn't even try to start the Tahoe so I don't know where the knock is coming from. Stay tuned though! -Chris
THATS THE GREAT THING ABOUT CHEVROLETS AND LS MOTORS, ALL THE OUTER PARTS INTERCHANGE, EXHAUST MANIFOLDS, INTAKES, TRANSMISSIONS, OR YOU CAN GET SOMEONE TO DROP THE PAN AND JUST POSSIBLY CHANGE THE BAD CONNECTING ROD BEARING, THAT IS THE BEST CHEAPEST ROUTE, BIGGEST FACTOR HERE IS IF OR IF NOT THE CRANK IS OR ISN'T DAMAGED TO THE POINT THAT BEARING CAN'T BE CHANGED
Thank for the comment about the Tahoe PPV and for checking out my Auction Buy video. I'm really anxious to get behind the wheel of my truck. It's gonna take a few weeks though and that's probably the hardest part. My driveway is starting to look a bit odd with a Crown Vic PI, a Caprice PPV and soon a Tahoe PPV all parked together! -Chris
I'll tell you Gary, Nate will be getting his drivers permit later this year but it was only in the past few weeks that he's noticed cars. Since, he's been sharing what he likes, colors, wheels..... It's pretty cool but really surprised me cause it came out of nowhere.
Thanks for checking out my Auction Buy video and for the info on the LS engines. I just did a eBay search for 6 liter engines and it seems they're fairly easy to get and not too expensive either. Horsepower looks like in the 350 range too. Just might be the way to go. Thanks again! -Chris
Poor man's SRT Durango? I was looking at the jegs catalog and really got inspired by the prices on stroker kits $1200-1800, I can build a 408 Durango or a 383 Tahoe on a $3000 budget. For the time being I may get a continental or the Seville STS for $1500. I have plenty of tools from replacing steering and suspension components.
Good to know about LS engines. This is my first time dealing with them so I'm still learning. I'm much more comfortable with the old stuff and carburetors! -Chris
Stay away from shade tree mechanics. They will bleed you. Go with the code reader and a reputable shop with reasonable prices. .. Build your industry contacts..
Man good deal,,, even if you don't make a dime on your son's car ,u are well ahead ,just doing something with your son is worth every penny,,keep on doing it,, best of luck on your project,,,gb
Hey, thanks so much for checking out my Vic auction video and for your comment too. I'd love to get me one of those box Caprice's. My in-laws had one for years and ever since, I've wanted one for myself. Anyways, thanks again! -Chris
I've never seen your channel, have no intrest in what you vlog about (no disrespect), but your attitude and vlog skills kept me for the whole thing. Great work and keep it up!
Wow man, I really appreciate your comment and for sharing that. You know, there are so many ups and downs with making videos and there are plenty of folks that are generous with their criticism. It's always great and refreshing to get some positive comments too. Thanks so much!!! -Chris
For those of you saying he didn’t get a great deal on the Tahoe lol well , I’m in Delaware too. These trucks sell around $8-9k around here. Everyone wants them.
Pull motor and get rebuild kit from summit, bring everything to a machine shop and have them do everything, make sure to have motor first start and brake in from local mechanic, total cost about $2600
I got a 2007 Chevy 2500 crew cab pickup 4x4 with the 6 liter v8 for 4400 dollars runs great but the bed needs to be replace. so far happy as hell with it. It was in Texas so no rust.
Congrats on the Tahoe PPV! I’ve got an ‘07 with now almost 300k on it & runs like brand new! I’m an enthusiast & have had over 40 personal vehicles in my lifetime; including police Chargers & Crown Vics... the Tahoe PPV is by far my favorite & will keep it for a long time! You’re going to LOVE this truck! Good Luck to you & your son!
Thanks so much for the congrats on the Tahoe. I'm really stoked about this truck. Can't wait to get behind the wheel, but, it's gonna take a while before that happens. I think the wait is the hardest part. I have however been searching much of the day today for an engine and still haven't decided what I want or the right amount to pay. The truck is at a shop and is diagnosed with a cam and lifter problem from clogged oil passages so the shop is just waiting for me to tell them what I want them to do.
Thanks again for thinking about my son Nate. He's pretty excited about his first car but he's starting to fall in love with it too. He can't even drive for a few more months and he doesn't want to let this thing go, LOL! First love, you know! Anyways, thanks again! -Chris
@@hullinger , they have the DOD delete kits. May want to consider a cam/lifter swap to non VVT/ DOD and have it programmed out of the computer unless a cheaper engine comes along Good luck.
4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and 6.2 are all the same block. The only difference is that there bored differently. Like a 5.3 is bored to a 327 ci and a 6.0 is a 366 ci give or take. And most 4L60E transmissions have the same bolt pattern and should bolt right up.
I'm willing to bet the engine knock on that Tahoe is the AFM(active fuel management), the lifters are known to go bad, its quite a common problem on these trucks, and make a pretty terrible knocking noise. The AFM/DOD basically "deactivates" 4 of the 8 cylinders when at cruising speed where load on the engine is very light. The lifters have very small holes in them that allow oil through or not dependent on whether the engine is in V4 or V8 mode, the holes can get plugged among other issues and starve the lifter(s) of oil and thus proper lubrication. You can purchase complete kits with new lifters and the necessary accessories. I would strongly recommend not buying the kit that will replace the AFM lifters, but instead getting the kit that deletes the AFM, essentially just normal lifters. It prevents the problem from ever reoccurring in the future. Not to mention that replacing the lifters are a much cheaper option then replacing the motor. I currently own a Tahoe(SSV) I purchased from an auction, albeit a couple years newer(2012) but still with the same body style and engine. Luckily mine has not developed the issue (yet) and I will probably delete the AFM in the near future, though I might be able to get away with deactivating it through the computer since I have yet to have any issues.
Great comment and thanks so much for sharing all of that info on the AFM and DOD on these Chevy Tahoe's. I've been reading more about this stuff today and it seems like it's almost to be expected. I've even read where some folks consider cam and lifters 'routine maintenance'. Really weird too that it costs so much too. I appreciate your sharing and your thoughts on deleting the AFM too. Thanks agin! -Chris
Before you change ls engine check exhaust bolts. They crack on those models and car sounds like is knocking and sound exactly like engine is broken. Replace bolts first.
That 2.7 in the avenger is a horrible motor, get rid of it ASAP! That engine came on a lot of Dodge and Chrysler cars,it’s a real POS! I’m also surprised by the prices... I live on the east coast in New York to be exact and that avenger with that mileage and condition costs like $1-2k at most privately, just look on Craigslist. You come with cash and the seller usually will give it to you even cheaper. $1000 will get you one easily around here.
Early 2000s Mopar just has no resale in general. The 2.7 is not that bad of an engine after 2004 when they fixed the oil sludge. I own a 05 Sebring convertible with it and all that really is bad with that engine is that everything major to replace is overly complicated and basically require the whole engine taken apart.
Larry With that being New York, it could have lots of rust as well. The cars he bought look clean. With the Tahoe it wouldn't be difficult to change engines and like he said have less than $8,000 in it
The Vics and Town Cars had a plastic intake manifold which often cracks around the mounting bolts. That causes vacuum issues with rough and low idle. I'd check that first on the Vic. The good news is that there are now so many at the wreckers that they are really cheap to fix if you can work a socket set.
If you do public auctions you could just put a little work into them and resale for notes as a Private online seller. No license needed up to three just keep it going. Online there are engine rebuild sites. They will send you an engine. The rebuild comes in core goes out back.. that's how it works. With your son as a partner you can sell only a certain amount publicly until you expand if you want a license. You need to create a spreadsheet list with the times for auction. Include the repair fee if you invest. Get a code reader..
Literally any engine will fit in the spot any LS engine will fit there except for maybe the LSX 454 and the motor mounts will go right in that's the beautiful thing about LS engines they are all the same size physically except for the 454 which is a big block motor
Just caught your older post with this video. Where are these negative commenters buying Tahoe's that they think you were had. That truck is still going a year later with that mileage in the 10k range. Good purchase, especially after seeing your later video regarding the repair. A Crown Vic and a Tahoe are two different animals. Probably Pilot owners posting all the hate
All Chevy motors from 99 - and on make a little knock. No problem the only difference is intersepter package the law enforcement vehicles have other different things is the suspension its heavy duty compared to a regular truck.
Another great video. Good job getting your son going with this also. I just watched one of John Engel's videos where he talks about using a code reader whenever he's out car shopping. He said the reader will give him a heads up if there's a serious problem with the trans or engine. I may need to look into one. Nice of Max and you working it out at the auction...-Pat
Pat, thanks so much and for being such a supporter too. I think a code reader needs to be the next purchase I make. Could make a good video too on how to read and interpret the real-time data. -Chris
Sure, while I am not scanner Dan, I will put a video together of the crown vic and just some of the major things I look for with a code reader. Inbparticular it is not the error codes to read but the live data that is sometimes more interesting and indicative of future problems.
We have the same government sales here in Tn but not only do you get to inspect and test drive them. The bidding is live with an auctioneer So you can go and throw your hand up or you can bid online is out already checked it out in person. I like these auction because there are NO buyers fee. But the public gets to come is the downside. They sometimes drive up the price
Thanks so much for your comment and for checking out my auction and Tahoe video. I had decided to keep the engine but work it a bit. It's going through a partial rebuild right now but with a bigger cam, headers and tune too. Anxious to get it back from the shop and start driving her! Stay tuned for an update once the truck comes back! - Chris
OK, here's my advice. On the Avenger you did kinda sorta OK, but you would have been better off with the Crown Vic. You flat out got hosed on the Tahoe, and there's absolutely nothing you're going to be able to do to make that a "Good" deal.
Being it's a Chevy with over 160K and with an engine knock, i feel you got screwed. Personally, I'd say just to part it out and try to get some of your money back. From my experience with a CVPI, I'd say they're the better buy. They run quite well, are fairly easy to maintain, they're smooth, quick, and a blast to drive.
For your Tahoe just add some oil additive to the engine and it will stop the nicking in the motor You may have to do it twice to get the neck out of the engine , but use something different
Hey man, I appreciate your comment on the ticking sound coming from my Tahoe PPV auction buy. I already have the truck getting a new cam, lifters and some other things but if I run into this again, I'll absolutely try some oil additive. Appreciate it! -Chris
I just went to casino and hit the jackpot of $117,000 . I know I have to pay tax but I will use *some* write offs against the win.. I am hoping I will clear approx $85,000. I will be buying a nice toyota Camry or honda accord,,,,, all cash..

You getting ripped off in Delware...3k for a truck with a bad engine and the transmissions are notorious for skipping a beat. They would sell the crown vics at the refurb spot for 1500 to 2500 running good low miles.
Jesus, you paid near retail where I'm from. The high mileage Taho with a knock, $1500, $1800 max. The Avenger is a $500 car Bud. Hey man, thanks for the comment. Nice to hear about someone else having a Tahoe PPV. I guess you're in or near Delaware too, which is cool. As for my new truck, I'm gonna get back to the auction lot next week and I'll start the truck to hear how she sounds. A bunch of folks are telling me that the cam and lifters are known problems so I'll be listening for that. If I need an engine though I'll be sure to hit you up. -Chris
Hey man. Remember my Chevy Tahoe auction buy video I did last week? Well, I'm shopping now for a replacement engine for the truck. There are a few junk yards in New Castle but wanted to check with you first before I start making calls to those guys. Got any ideas on where I can get a good 6.0 or 5.3 engine? -Chris

It is an awesome one of a kind guide for finding government and police auctions for cars trucks and SUVs without the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my cousin after many years got great results with it.
On the Tahoe you bought all that is is a piece of carbon that broke loose and is rattling around on top of the Piston you need to get carbon buster and it will get rid of it it will make your truck smoke like hell but it will stop knocking
all the truck vortech ls v8s,all interchangeable accessories, exhaust manifols , in the escalades the 6.0 have a different flywheel and spacer than the 6.2 litre . the 5.3 with the throttle by wire later ones use a different reluctor wheel on crank ,different ECM ,crank sensor .after 2006 .than the earlier ls v8s in the trucks.
so you're telling me that I can spend money and time at an auction just to have to collect a shitbox that hopefully makes it home? Count me in! Joke aside, I did compete in a Govdeals auction for a nice 2007 Crown Vic. It had under 120k miles, ran great, pushbar, and it just needed a new serp belt and a bath from what I could tell. Ended up getting auction sniped by some jerk for $2300 and I haven't done an online auction since. Maybe I should get back on that. I have so much free time that I could definitely flip a car here and there.

Wow man, thanks! I'll keep that in mind on the next project. As for the Tahoe, I found out the engine knock was the cam and lifters. Doing a DOD delete kit now along with some other parts too. I'll get an update video out shortly. -Chris
Probably just need to sand blast the piston chamber and new spark plugs and the knock will go away. Use regular gas and change the oil every 10,000. Miles you’ll be ok.
i do deliveries to maintenance departments of local police etc most mechanics say they give cars up when they give issues and beat up and if you gonna get police car make sure its no traffic patrol its a detective private car or something and look at idle time if possible
I think you overspent. I live in Los Angeles and due Chryslers have to run California Emission Systems the nylon components and a lot of gaskets in their engines get cooked and need to be replaced every 80K miles. You can't give away those cars here. As far as the 5.3 in the Tahoe, due it's a police you won't find a decent police replacement motor unless you buy new. Anything used is going to be junk. If you have any mechanical skills, you could probably rebuild the motor yourself in about 2 weeks for under $2K using very high quality components and blueprinting the motor. Then, I would consider keeping it. Otherwise if you have that motor rebuilt including all labor consider spending $5K. And by that time the 4L60 Trans in these things (they may have used the 4L65-E in the Police), either aren't strong trannys and if you keep it, you'll need to figure on doing that also (about $3K). Unless caught early, a 4L60 styleTrans cooks everything inside it and frequently destroys the case, so your only option is a completely new or remanufactured without a core. By the way, most cars hit the end of their economic lives at about 140,000 miles and considering the abuse Law Enforcement Agencies give these things and the fact we haven't factored in Suspension or Rear Axle issues, I would have stayed away from both vehicles.
Hey man, I appreciate that comment and your thoughts on these auction cars in my video. I made a follow-up vid about a month ago on the police Tahoe, if you want to see how she turned out. -Chris
I had Honda and it started idleing on me and turning off at light so I got enging check tool scanner and it was my spark plugs all of them were done easy 15$ for new plugs easy fix. You should get one of scanner code it's 25$ at Walmart online or in store I would take this everywhere before I go buy any car to see any problems with it.
When it comes to LS motors and Silverado trucks parts and custom parts and paints I am the guy people come to here from miles away... Yes any 5.3 will work. Manifolds may have to be changed they might not even be the ones the cop car came with because from 1999 new body style till about 2010 the manifolds had a tendency to crack when the engine was left at idle in really hot or extreme cold weather so there are only 2 variants thank cripes on that one. When a truck had a 5.3 in it unless U want headaches or really know U'r poop put what came in it back in it. 6.0 used 3 diff torque converters especially the 2WD drives... They had 3 diff transmissions one with the overdrive that had a principal computer programed with a speed limiter and the cheapo A-03 torque in em and they had the regular with the 4l60e 4spd that had no speed limiter and the program for such is not in it because they primarily used that trans in the Police Govern. Vehicles. Then ya have that odd ball (E)4L60E which is often (referred to) as the Electronic 4L69E but it is just a (E)4L60e. They used those in the Z71 trucks mostly the 4 wheel drives but occasionally one of em shows up in the 4 wheel drive Tahoes Yukons. Nightmares to get parts and the right solenoids 4 em... I know been a victim of that trans several times over in fact. Those trucks had that larger HD Torque converter and it can either be speed governed thru the cumpooter or thru the thing that controls the Solenoids. The Z71's are the biggest pain in the ass GM ever created. That is where the last 8 digits of the vin come in handy and probably the reason people hung up on ya on the phone is that vin can really throw the average salvage dealer a zinger because they hate telling people after $1500 engine purchase and $1500 in installation you need to take it to a dealer to have that blasted cumpooter re-flashed to the tune of $500 to $1,000 depending on where ya live at. GM has it's pros and cons. The bad news is the later on ya get from about 06 to current GM is getting as bad as Ford with missed or misleading parts listings or no listings on some of their models... GM is almost forcing people to buy new stuff because GM is not generally sharing their new and late model year info with the aftermarket folks. Presumably to thwart China from copying their parts they still hold patents on for like 10 years... Then after that some of the stuff becomes easier to find.
Oh yes , your engine knock could be poor gasoline. Try a more higher octane. My father who was a mechanic always said; Try the cheap stuff first before spending big..
If it’s an upper end knock, it could be as simple as replacing the lifters. Low end knock would be odd in the LS but not impossible. What ended up being wrong with the PPV engine?
Thanks for checking out my Tahoe PPV vid. As for the engine, you're right about the lifters. That damn AFM system took a crap. I did a follow-up vid showing the DOD delete kit I bought, new cam, lifters, oil pump..... Should give me a nice bump in power too. Looking forward to getting some seat-time in the Tahoe once it gets back from the shop. Anyways, thanks again! -Chris
I say for Tahoe engine knocking noise is lifters very common for 5.7 l or oil pressure keep the engine block replace lifters and oil pump you might be get lucky

What, you don't like just having us old guys watch your vids?!?!
Ask any old guy and he'll tell you that old guys ROCK!
Gets 8 mpg highway and 7.5 in city
To mention electrical problems after all the police electronics have been jerked out
I'd bring a 10ft pole next time..
That was a DEAL on those Crown Vics. Keep them maintained and they’ll run for 300k+ miles. Seen several that have. Thanks for posting
Terrific video and what a great auction it was. Was a pleasure meeting you in person, finally, and showing you my two Vic's.
-Pat
@@hullinger I bought a Ford explorer from a government auction it had 125000 miles on it note same engine rt now it has 368000 miles and still running strong it has a 4.3 engine in it best buy I ever made at $3200 we have had it 9 years good luck
i hope you and your son know how blessed you are to be doing this. good vid.
A 4.8 and 5.3 is the same block, so if all you can find is a 4.8 itll fit right in, and most parts are interchangable between 5.3/4.8
Ruszko, thanks man.
Just picked up a 2011 PPV with 180K miles. Nothing wrong with it other than a couple dings. Drives great!! Youll love the truck
-Chris
East Coast Classics let me know how you like the truck!
You've got a lifter problem on dod. Toss a performance cam and dod delete kit!
my oldest is 12... I can't wait until he wants to fix up cars with me
I'll tell you Gary, Nate will be getting his drivers permit later this year but it was only in the past few weeks that he's noticed cars. Since, he's been sharing what he likes, colors, wheels..... It's pretty cool but really surprised me cause it came out of nowhere.
he still can he just cant drive or you know go on a private road etc.
anything i just said in my reply is true for were i live idk about were you live
My kindergartner helps me work on stuff. Has since he was 4 not all the time but he swears he's going to be a race car driver one day
I can’t wait until my dad lets me work on cars
if i recall correctly you could drop a 6.0 in and all the wiring and the computers are the same just start it up and ECM will learn the motor.
I'm failing to see the deal you got here buying a Tahoe with an engine knock and a dodge avenger for a total of $4700. Wow.
noladol avengers are the worst with the 2.7 it’s legit like driving a ticking time bomb #4cylgang
noladol couldn’t agree more! I can’t see the so called bargain at all lol
dude got sucked in the puplic auction hype and made poor decisions he will learn
Avenger is one of the shittiest cars made in American in recent years...turn of the century Pinto
Old avengers were ok. Anything Dodge that has a .7 in it 🏃 2.7, 3.7, 4.7, and 5.7 all junk.
Any LS engine should fit in that. You might have to change some minor things
Good to know about LS engines. This is my first time dealing with them so I'm still learning. I'm much more comfortable with the old stuff and carburetors! -Chris
Nowadays they make kits to fit LS's into everything. They are super easy to work on and the parts are PLENTIFUL. Good luck with the Tahoe.
East Coast Classics Get it retuned after motor in stall or you will be buying another one
It's the 5.3 or 6.0 vortec in the gm platform. Yukon suburban tahoe escalade
Stay away from shade tree mechanics. They will bleed you. Go with the code reader and a reputable shop with reasonable prices. .. Build your industry contacts..

I bought a 86 chevy caprice one time for the wife. It was a detective car. It had a Lt 1 350 in it. Ran great for a long time. Great video.

-Chris

@@hullinger I missed something, what's taking/took so long?
@@hullinger , they have the DOD delete kits. May want to consider a cam/lifter swap to non VVT/ DOD and have it programmed out of the computer unless a cheaper engine comes along Good luck.
I good you spend time and work with your son that priceless
State Surplus auctions here in Maine are open to the public, Lots of great deals.
you can roll in new bearings with the engine in the truck. rod bearings are the most common source of knock. use a bore scope in the cylinders .
Larry
With that being New York, it could have lots of rust as well. The cars he bought look clean. With the Tahoe it wouldn't be difficult to change engines and like he said have less than $8,000 in it
Agreed
The Vics and Town Cars had a plastic intake manifold which often cracks around the mounting bolts. That causes vacuum issues with rough and low idle. I'd check that first on the Vic. The good news is that there are now so many at the wreckers that they are really cheap to fix if you can work a socket set.
Great comment and thanks for watching my Crown Vic auction video and for the tip on the intake manifolds! -Chris
Get a code reader..
i agree with you, those are bargains.youre a smart businessman, you know where to go.love your channel.
Hey Rainbowboi, thanks for the comment, the kind words and for checking out my video too. Appreciate all of that! -Chris
You've got a nice one buddy, Hope to see more of them
Literally any engine will fit in the spot any LS engine will fit there except for maybe the LSX 454 and the motor mounts will go right in that's the beautiful thing about LS engines they are all the same size physically except for the 454 which is a big block motor
Hahaha, Honda Pilot owners and the hate comments! Too funny!!! -Chris
-Chris
HA! I posted a reply on Max's comment stating that he should get together with you and do just that.
Damn those crown vics are cleean, here in saudi arabia those would sell for 5000$ easy.
Nice videos man keep going!
Nice video, Chris get an expert to rebuild the Tahoe engine for you and then flip it.
The whole hood is bent, talking about a little damage lol
The avenger is nice because it can use parts from other dodge models
2:02 I want that...*Drolling*
I would love to hook up with ya on one of these. I need a good SUV, Van or Pick-up.
Love that u are working with your son.
Doing something with your son. Priceless. Dealing with the Tahoe. Pain and $$.
Buy a brand new crate engine with the best warranty you can get for that Tahoe. It will cost about $5,000 including install.
Chris
OK, here's my advice. On the Avenger you did kinda sorta OK, but you would have been better off with the Crown Vic. You flat out got hosed on the Tahoe, and there's absolutely nothing you're going to be able to do to make that a "Good" deal.
I don't walk, I run away from Dodge Avengers! 🏃♂️💨
With the Cheby Taco, you could get it heavily insured and burn it. The other bomb you could film it flying off a cliff and put it on TH-cam.
At least it's not a Ford Pinto !
HAHAHAHA
Gary B is walking to work in the meantime.
For your Tahoe just add some oil additive to the engine and it will stop the nicking in the motor
You may have to do it twice to get the neck out of the engine , but use something different
Hey man, I appreciate your comment on the ticking sound coming from my Tahoe PPV auction buy. I already have the truck getting a new cam, lifters and some other things but if I run into this again, I'll absolutely try some oil additive. Appreciate it! -Chris
I bought a 1995 Ford Taurus with abt 144000 miles for $900. She runs great and got 4 years out of her until the transmission quit working.
You got 4 years for a $900! Sounds like a killer deal to me!
I just went to casino and hit the jackpot of $117,000 .

2.7 needs a lot of oil changes when the oil change is due don’t wait for your break your block and blow your five bearing
Wow man, thanks for the tip on the Dodge Avenger engine. I appreciate that. -Chris
Popeye's has the best apple pies lol
The best cure for the Tahoe is to get an engine and transmission from a wrecked vehicle at a junkyard!
Probably just need to sand blast the piston chamber and new spark plugs and the knock will go away. Use regular gas and change the oil every 10,000. Miles you’ll be ok.
THE ONLY DEAL I SEEN WAS THE POLICE PKG TAHOE!!! YOU CAN GET THE MOTOR REBUILT FOR A FEW GRAND AND STILL SELLING IT FOR $8,000 EASY!!!

I got 08 dodge avenger paid 3k 118k miles
Good luck lol
i do deliveries to maintenance departments of local police etc most mechanics say they give cars up when they give issues and beat up and if you gonna get police car make sure its no traffic patrol its a detective private car or something and look at idle time if possible
Ask the dealer or go there by yourself they should be able to tell you why and what you can replace with or fix it
When it comes to LS motors and Silverado trucks parts and custom parts and paints I am the guy people come to here from miles away...
Look for LKQ Parts Shops/ Stores and Go there with Your Title they can be able to help you get your Engine!
I want that tahoe in the background 😍
Good Job Bro! I have a question: are the titles clean from gov?
A very interesting channel. Happy to join your format. Best regards in your endeavors. 🚘
dude you can change almost any engine for that just get a close year and type like hp there all the same allmost
In Delaware, you'll find deals, come to surplus auction in NYC,see if the cars ho cheap with astronomical miles, anything the Police use is wasted,,,,,,even utilitiy companies sold/auction their vans,,,they aerew scrap metal..Rebuild that engine on that Tahoe
You can do a engine swap between a 5.3 to a 6.0
LX 06 police interceptor engine, hiway rear end. Balance Blueprint the eninge OT and add super booster and nitous. On 24s
Don't overcomplicate things. Pop the engine out,run it thru rebuild shop (short block). Reassemble, you're done
Wow, thats it. Sounds so simple. Thanks for simplifying it.
